Missouri University of Science and Technology Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Indian applicants meet a mix of academic, English proficiency and credential verification requirements set by the Office of Graduate Studies.
Missouri S&T PG Requirements for Indian Students
- Academic: Four-year bachelor’s with 65% to 70% or CGPA 6.5 to 7.0/10 (recommended)
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 4.5 (1-6 scale) / 80 (0-120 legacy scale), IELTS 6.5, PTE 58 or Duolingo 115
- Credential verification: Course-by-course WES or NACES evaluation of Indian transcripts
- Standardised tests: GRE required for most engineering and computer science masters programs
Missouri S&T UG Requirements for Indian Students
- Academic: Class 12 (CBSE, ISC or state board) with 70% to 85% (recommended)
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 4.5 (1-6 scale) / 80 (0-120 legacy scale), IELTS 6.5, PTE 58 or Duolingo 115
- Standardised tests: SAT or ACT recommended but not required
Key insight: Applicants with English-medium instruction from CBSE or ICSE Class 12 may request an English test waiver on a case-by-case basis, but should submit a school-verified medium-of-instruction letter with the application.
Missouri University of Science and Technology Acceptance Rate 2027
Missouri S&T holds an acceptance rate of 82% (estimated) based on prior admission cycle data. The rate makes it a moderate-selectivity STEM institution, though individual departments like Computer Science and Aerospace Engineering apply tighter GRE and GPA cutoffs.
Indian applicants with bachelor’s CGPA above 7.5/10 and GRE above 315 sit comfortably above the median. Doctoral admission is significantly more selective and tied to faculty funding availability.
Reality check: A high acceptance rate does not mean guaranteed funding. Assistantship offers are competitive and time out early, so submitting before the priority deadline is essential for Indian candidates.

Missouri University of Science and Technology vs Peer Universities
Missouri S&T competes with mid-rank US public STEM universities, especially those with strong engineering and applied science focus in the Midwest and Mountain West.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | CD Study Abroad 2026 | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD / INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Missouri S&T | #751-760 | #486 | 26,056 / 24.9 lakh | Petroleum and Aerospace specialisation |

| Kansas State University | #601-610 | NA | 27,000 / 25.8 lakh (estimated) | Larger campus with broader liberal arts base |
Missouri S&T stands out on cost-per-outcome for Indian applicants, with tuition below all listed peers and starting salaries competitive with higher-ranked schools. Its Rolla location keeps living costs meaningfully lower than urban peers.
Missouri S&T fits Indian STEM applicants who want a four-year degree return of USD 74,500 median salary against a total investment under USD 200,000, with the strongest brand recognition sitting in Petroleum, Aerospace and Nuclear Engineering. The compact Rolla campus, active Indian community and 24-month STEM OPT extension make it a practical choice for cost-conscious families targeting a US MBA in the USA pathway or engineering career later.
Missouri S&T is not the right pick for students seeking a metropolitan setting, humanities depth or top-100 global brand prestige. Applicants prioritising city life and broader course choice should consider Purdue University or Arizona State University instead.
Missouri University of Science and Technology FAQs
Ques. What English test waivers does Missouri S&T offer Indian applicants?
Ans. Missouri S&T waives English proficiency requirements for applicants holding a degree from a US, UK, Australian, New Zealand or Canadian university. Indian applicants with English-medium instruction from CBSE, ICSE or state board Class 12 can request a case-by-case waiver by submitting a school-verified medium-of-instruction letter with the application. All other Indian candidates must submit TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or Duolingo scores.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Missouri S&T?
Ans. F-1 visa holders at Missouri S&T can work up to 20 hours per week on campus during the fall and spring semesters and full-time during official breaks. Popular on-campus roles include library assistants, computer lab monitors and research or teaching assistantships. Off-campus work requires Curricular Practical Training authorisation, typically available after the first two semesters and tied to the field of study.
Ques. Is GRE mandatory for MS programs at Missouri S&T?
Ans. GRE is required for most engineering and computer science masters programs at Missouri S&T, though waivers apply for applicants with strong bachelor’s GPA and relevant work experience. The Engineering Management and MBA programs use GMAT scores alternatively. Indian applicants targeting competitive programs like Computer Science or Aerospace Engineering should aim for a GRE score above 315 to sit above the median admitted cohort.
Ques. How much is the Missouri S&T application fee?
Ans. Missouri S&T charges a non-refundable application fee of USD 75 (INR 7,176) for international graduate applications submitted online. Undergraduate international applicants pay a separate application fee at the same rate. Fee waivers are limited to McNair Scholars, Fulbright applicants and select conference-based referrals. Indian applicants should budget for the fee upfront alongside WES credential evaluation and English test costs.
Ques. Which Indian banks fund education loans for Missouri S&T?
Ans. Indian public sector banks including SBI, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank and Canara Bank recognise Missouri S&T under their overseas education loan schemes. Private lenders like HDFC Credila, Avanse and InCred also fund admitted Indian students up to INR 60 lakh without hard collateral for masters programs. Students should present the I-20 form and admission letter to secure loan sanction ahead of visa filing.
Ques. What dependent visa options exist for Missouri S&T Indian students?
Ans. Spouses and unmarried children under 21 of F-1 visa holders at Missouri S&T qualify for F-2 dependent visas. F-2 dependents cannot work in the US but can study part-time and enrol children in K-12 schools. The primary F-1 applicant must show financial proof covering an additional USD 8,000 to 10,000 per dependent per year on the I-20 form to secure dependent visas.
Ques. How does Missouri S&T verify Indian academic transcripts?
Ans. Missouri S&T requires Indian applicants to submit a course-by-course credential evaluation from World Education Services (WES) or another NACES member agency. Applicants should request their Indian universities to send sealed transcripts directly to WES, then forward the WES report to Missouri S&T. Allow six to eight weeks for evaluation processing, so Indian candidates targeting the November 15 deadline should start the WES process by September.
Ques. Does Missouri S&T offer conditional admission for Indian applicants?
Ans. Missouri S&T offers a Pathway Program for undergraduate Indian applicants who meet academic requirements but fall short of English proficiency minimums. Pathway students accept lower English scores (TOEFL 3.5, IELTS 5.5) and complete intensive English coursework alongside academic classes. Graduate applicants generally do not receive conditional admission, though strong candidates can defer admission by one term with departmental approval.
