Missouri S&T Eligibility for Indian Students
Missouri S&T’s eligibility framework is access oriented — it admits most applicants who meet stated academic and English thresholds. Below are the institution-wide floors for Indian students. Individual departments (particularly Aerospace, Petroleum, and Computer Science graduate programs) can require higher GPAs or GRE scores.
- UG (freshman) academic floor: Class XII completion covering 4 units English, 4 units Mathematics (Algebra I and above), 3 units Science (with 1 lab), 3 units Social Studies, 1 Fine Arts, 2 Foreign Language.
- UG (transfer) floor: Cumulative 2.5 GPA on 4.0 scale (around 60 percent) with 24+ transferable credits.
- Master’s floor: Bachelor’s degree with cumulative 3.0 GPA (around 60 to 65 percent, CGPA 7.0+) for regular admission; 2.75 GPA qualifies for probational admission.
- Doctoral floor: Departmental — most STEM PhD programs expect a 3.0+ GPA plus a research-fit letter.
Missouri S&T accepts a wider set of English proficiency tests than most US universities. Any of the following meets the institution-wide bar for full academic admission at every level.
| English Test | Full Admission Minimum | Pathway Program Minimum |
|---|---|---|
| TOEFL iBT (taken before 1 Jan 2026) | 80 | 60 |
| TOEFL (new format, from 1 Jan 2026) | 4.5 | 3.5 |
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 overall | 5.5 |
| PTE Academic | 58 | 50 |
| Duolingo English Test (DET) | 115 | 105 |
| Cambridge English (B2/C1/C2) | 176 | 162 |
Missouri S&T IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Indian nationals holding a completed degree from a university in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, or Canada (excluding Quebec) are exempt from submitting IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo scores. Indian applicants who studied entirely in India generally do not qualify for a Medium-of-Instruction waiver, but the Pathway Program provides a route with lower English scores plus a single-semester English course in your first term at Rolla.
Insider note: Missouri S&T’s Pathway Program is the go-to bridge for Indian applicants who miss the 6.5 IELTS bar by 0.5 to 1.0. You get full graduate admission conditional on completing one English course in your first semester — no separate visa transfer, no wasted time.
Missouri S&T PG Programs and English Requirements

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Missouri S&T graduate admissions page for your chosen program before applying.
Missouri S&T UG Programs and Freshman Requirements
Missouri S&T’s undergraduate portfolio is dominated by engineering (30+ degrees), computing, and science, with STEM programs open to freshmen without a pre-declared major. Admission uses a percentile-based system rather than a hard GPA cut. See the engineering course listings for the full undergraduate catalogue.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |
|---|---|---|---|
| BS Computer Science | 4 years | Class XII with Mathematics through Class XII plus 3 lab-science units | IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL 79 / PTE 53 |

Missouri S&T MBA Admissions and GMAT Policy
Missouri S&T’s MBA sits inside the Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development (formerly Jaggi School of Business). It is a STEM-designated, 30 credit-hour programme delivered fully online via WebEx and Blackboard, with fall/spring semesters of 16 weeks and summer terms of 4 to 8 weeks. Indian applicants can complete it in 18 months full time or spread it across 18 to 24 months alongside work.
Missouri S&T MBA Deadlines and Rounds
| Cycle | Priority Deadline | Final Deadline | App Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fall 2027 (August) | 1 May 2027 | 1 July 2027 | USD 75 (INR 7,181) |
| Spring 2027 (January) | Rolling | 15 November 2026 | USD 75 (INR 7,181) |
Missouri S&T MBA GMAT / GRE Policy
The MBA formally requires GMAT or GRE, but the admissions committee routinely waives the requirement for applicants with either significant professional work experience or a strong quantitative bachelor’s transcript. Waivers are requested inside the online application, not before it. There is no group discussion or panel interview stage; admission decisions rely on transcripts, essays, resume, and (where required) test scores.
Reality check: Because the Missouri S&T MBA is delivered online, an Indian F-1 visa applicant seeking on-campus study should read the fine print — an online-only enrolment is not eligible for an F-1 visa. If you need the visa, choose an on-campus master’s or a hybrid business programme instead.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Missouri S&T graduate admissions page for your chosen program before applying.
Missouri S&T PhD Admissions and Funding
Missouri S&T runs 20+ doctoral programmes concentrated in engineering, computing, geological sciences, and mathematics. Doctoral deadlines fall earlier than master’s because funded admissions are decided in tandem with departmental research openings.
Missouri S&T PhD Deadlines and Portal
| Intake | Deadline | App Fee | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fall 2027 (August) | 15 February 2027 | USD 75 (INR 7,181) | connect.mst.edu/apply |
| Spring 2027 (January) | 15 September 2026 | USD 75 (INR 7,181) | connect.mst.edu/apply |
| Summer 2027 (May) | 15 November 2026 | USD 75 (INR 7,181) | connect.mst.edu/apply |
Missouri S&T PhD Funding for Indian Applicants
Doctoral funding at Missouri S&T is anchored by the Stipend X framework, which sets minimum stipend levels for graduate research and teaching assistantships. A half-time (50 percent FTE) doctoral assistantship at Missouri S&T typically pays around USD 18,545 (around INR 17.76 Lakhs) for the nine-month academic year based on published 2026-27 department minimums, plus a full tuition waiver. Full-time appointments and 12-month funding packages exceed this base. Assistantships are department-awarded and not guaranteed with admission.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Missouri S&T graduate admissions page for your chosen program before applying.
Missouri S&T Application Process Steps
Missouri S&T processes applications on a rolling basis at both undergraduate and graduate level. Indian applicants should target 6 to 8 weeks before the deadline to allow decision + I-20 + visa slot booking. The process differs for freshmen and graduate applicants.
- Choose your platform. Freshmen pick either the Common Application (opened 1 August 2026 at commonapp.org) for the Fall 2027 cycle, or Missouri S&T’s direct portal at connect.mst.edu/apply. Graduate applicants use only the direct portal.
- Pay the application fee. Undergraduate applicants pay no application fee on either platform. Graduate applicants pay a USD 75 (around INR 7,181) application fee on the connect.mst.edu/apply portal at submission.
- Upload transcripts. Unofficial marksheets and consolidated transcripts are accepted for initial review; official ones are required after admission.
- Submit English proficiency evidence. Report IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo directly to Missouri S&T (institution code 6876 for GRE and TOEFL).
- Submit test scores where required. GRE for the 16 graduate programmes that require it (including Aerospace, CS, Mechanical), GMAT for MBA where not waived.
- Submit LORs, resume, and personal statement (up to 1,000 words). Doctoral applicants add a research-fit statement.
- Track your decision. Departmental review + Vice Provost sign-off typically produces an admission decision within 4 to 8 weeks of file completeness. Accept the offer inside the applicant portal and request the I-20 through the ISSS Gateway Portal.
Insider note: Missouri S&T’s rolling review means an application filed six weeks before the posted deadline is not just "on time" — it is materially more competitive for funding, because assistantship budgets fill from earliest-decision candidates outward.
Documents Required for Missouri S&T
The document set below covers what Indian applicants must upload or arrange for delivery. Missouri S&T accepts scanned uploads at the review stage and asks for originals only after admission. Academic and English thresholds are covered separately in the Eligibility section.
- Passport bio-page scan valid for at least six months beyond your intended arrival.
- Academic transcripts and mark-sheets from Class X, Class XII, and every college/university attended.
- Bachelor’s degree certificate or provisional certificate (graduate applicants only).
- Course-by-course credential evaluation from WES or another NACES member — required for most non-US degrees.
- Statement of purpose or personal statement capped at 1,000 words.
- Resume or CV covering academics, projects, publications, and work history.
- 0 to 3 Letters of Recommendation — count varies by programme; PhD applicants need 3 academic references.
- GRE / GMAT score report only where the programme requires it (Missouri S&T institution code 6876).
- English proficiency score report — IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo, or Cambridge — unless exempt via a US/UK/Australia/NZ/Canada degree.
- Financial documentation for the I-20: a bank statement or affidavit of support with the bank’s official stamp and letterhead, showing funds for 12 months. Submitted after admission through the ISSS Gateway Portal.
- Two passport-size photos for the F-1 visa appointment.
Missouri S&T Acceptance Rate
Missouri University of Science and Technology does not publish a single institution-wide acceptance rate. Publicly available third-party data from US federal college scorecards places overall freshman admit rates for Missouri S&T in the 78 to 85 percent band, reflecting its access-oriented public STEM mandate — the university admits most applicants who clear its stated academic and English thresholds. Selectivity is higher for individual departments where seats are capped.
How Selective Is Missouri S&T for Indian Graduate Applicants?
Graduate admission is programme-driven, not centralised — the Vice Provost of Enrollment Management signs off after a departmental chair recommends admission. Indian applicants clearing the 3.0 GPA, IELTS 6.5, and (where required) a competitive GRE score typically see favourable outcomes for MS Computer Science, MS Mechanical, and MS Electrical Engineering. Petroleum, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering run tighter departmental caps.
Missouri S&T Ranking Context
Missouri S&T sits in the QS World University Rankings 2027 ranking band of 751-760 globally and #82 among US universities, with QS Engineering and Technology placing it in the 101-150 band. Petroleum Engineering ranks #16 in the US per US News 2026. See the full ranking band breakdown for Missouri S&T for QS, THE, ARWU, and US News subject positions.
Reality check: A high acceptance rate does not translate to a low graduation bar. Missouri S&T’s engineering coursework is rigorous, and Indian students with sub-3.0 undergraduate GPAs who enter via the Pathway or probational routes often need to lift their first-semester GPA above 3.0 to convert to regular status.
USA F-1 Student Visa Process for Missouri S&T
Indian students admitted to on-campus programmes at Missouri S&T apply for the F-1 student visa at a US embassy or consulate in India (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, or Hyderabad). Missouri S&T issues the I-20 form through its ISSS Gateway Portal only after admission and after financial documents are approved — you cannot start the visa process without a valid I-20.
The visa flow is: pay the SEVIS I-901 fee (USD 350, around INR 33,513), complete the DS-160 online form, pay the MRV visa application fee (USD 185, around INR 17,714), schedule your visa interview slot, and attend the appointment with your passport, I-20, admission letter, SEVIS receipt, DS-160 confirmation, financial documents, and two photographs. Financial proof must show 12 months of funds with the bank’s official stamp and authorised signature. Once approved, register with ISSS within your first two weeks on the Rolla campus.
2026 update: Indian F-1 visa appointment slots at US consulates in Delhi and Mumbai typically open in tranches from January through May for August-intake students. Miss the first release and you may push a Fall 2027 arrival into Spring 2028 — request the I-20 within 48 hours of admission.
Tips and Checklist for Missouri S&T Admissions
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Missouri S&T. Combine them with the timeline anchors below to keep your Fall 2027 file competitive.
- Apply 6 to 8 weeks before the posted deadline — assistantship budgets fill from the earliest-reviewed applicants, not the deadline-day ones.
- Request Class X, XII, and Bachelor’s transcripts 8 weeks before your target deadline — Indian university registrars routinely take 4 to 6 weeks.
- Book your IELTS or TOEFL slot by September 2026 for Fall 2027 — Missouri S&T accepts Duolingo, so keep it as a backup if IELTS slots are full.
- Email your target department chair before you apply if you want assistantship consideration — a research-fit pitch attached to a well-timed application converts far better than a portal submission alone.
- Start the WES evaluation by October 2026 if your bachelor’s is not from a US-style GPA institution — WES turnaround is 5 to 7 business days after documents arrive, but Indian document delivery can take longer.
- Keep at least USD 55,000 (around INR 52.66 Lakhs) as liquid, documented funds for the I-20 financial affidavit — Missouri S&T will not issue an I-20 without proof.
- Request the I-20 within 48 hours of admission and book your F-1 visa slot the same week the I-20 arrives.
- Use the Pathway Program if your IELTS is 5.5 to 6.0 — it preserves your F-1 timeline instead of pushing you back one full intake.
Missouri University of Science and Technology’s admissions machinery rewards early, well-documented Fall applicants: file through Common App or the direct portal by late 2026, lock in scholarship consideration by the 1 December priority date, and coordinate WES + IELTS + LORs so your file goes to review complete on day one.

Dislikes
- I don’t say I dislike but some area for improvement would be the connecting Academic advisor and their students.
- Maybe in terms of CS/IT some kind of workshops which directly connect the students with the university IT department that helps them to understand what to expect in real world scenarios and how their work will be
Scholarship
- One of the strongest areas for this university is scholarships; there are plenty of opportunities to get one.
- Based on academic record, all the applied students for their master's programme are eligible for a specific scholarship programme, in addition to that, which can be granted based on your academic performance and achievements after the 1st semester.
- Important note: All Applicants have a very high chance of getting a scholarship. I mean, personally, I didn’t see any student without a scholarship.
