The Excellence Award is the workhorse award for Indian applicants. It stacks with departmental awards in mining, petroleum, and aerospace, three fields where Missouri S&T holds top-25 US News subject ranks.
Check the Missouri S&T admission requirements for the freshman GPA thresholds tied to each tier.
Missouri University of Science and Technology Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students
Missouri S&T funds most Master’s students through Graduate Assistantships rather than standalone scholarships. GAs cover full tuition and pay a stipend up to $22,000 (INR 20.79 Lakhs) per year.
Only about 35 percent of Master’s applicants receive a GA offer at admission. The rest apply to departmental tuition awards or self-fund the first semester.
| Scholarship / Award | Amount (USD / INR) | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) | $18,000 to $22,000 stipend + full tuition waiver (INR 17 to 20.79 Lakhs stipend) | Admitted Master’s or PhD in engineering, CS, math, physics | Tentative December 1, 2026 (Fall 2027 priority round) |
| Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) | $18,000 to $24,000 stipend + tuition waiver (INR 17 to 22.68 Lakhs stipend) | Faculty-funded, research-track students; requires PI approval | Rolling; contact target faculty directly |
| Chancellor’s Master’s Fellowship top-up | Up to $5,000 per year (INR 4.73 Lakhs) | Top 5 percent of admits, department-nominated only | Tentative January 15, 2027 |
| Departmental Tuition Awards | $2,000 to $8,000 per year (INR 1.89 to 7.56 Lakhs) | Merit-based, department discretion at admission | Rolling; awarded with the admission letter |
Reddit Insight: Indian Master’s applicants on r/gradadmissions say emailing 4 to 6 Missouri S&T faculty with a tailored CV lifts GRA hit rate significantly. Doing this two months before the December 1 deadline pushes acceptance from single digits to roughly 25 percent.
Applicants targeting a GA should apply by December 1 for Fall intake. Applications after March 1 still get reviewed for admission, but rarely receive funding since assistantship slots close early.
Full tuition, health insurance, and fees are covered under a standard 0.5 FTE (20-hour) assistantship. Review the Missouri S&T program list for department-level funding rates.
India-Specific Scholarships at Missouri University of Science and Technology
Missouri S&T itself does not run an India-only scholarship. Indian students receive the same merit awards as other international applicants and stack them with 4 India-side trust and government scholarships.
| Scholarship | Amount (USD / INR) | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship | Full tuition + $2,000 monthly stipend + travel (INR 1.89 Lakhs per month) | Indian citizens, 3+ years relevant work experience, Master’s applicants only | Tentative May 15, 2026 (for 2027 intake) |
| Inlaks Shivdasani Scholarship | Up to $100,000 total across the degree (INR 94.5 Lakhs) | Indian citizens under 30, top academic record, admitted to select US unis | Tentative March 31, 2026 |
| KC Mahindra Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad | Up to INR 8.5 Lakhs (interest-free loan scholarship) | Indian citizens with confirmed PG admit and clear repayment plan | Tentative March 31, 2026 |
| JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship | INR 1 to 10 Lakhs (loan scholarship) | Indian citizens under 45, all levels of PG study | Tentative March 20, 2026 |
Indian applicants who stack a Missouri S&T Excellence Award with Fulbright-Nehru or Inlaks cover close to 100 percent of tuition. The Fulbright-Nehru route works only for Master’s applicants with a strong professional record.
The KC Mahindra and JN Tata options operate as low-interest loan scholarships. Both need a confirmed admission plus the Missouri S&T offer letter before disbursal.
Missouri University of Science and Technology PhD Scholarships

|---|---|---|---|
| Chancellor’s Distinguished Fellowship | Up to $30,000 per year stipend + tuition + fees (INR 28.35 Lakhs stipend) | Top-tier PhD admits across engineering and science; department-nominated | Tentative December 15, 2026 |

Faculty in the mining and petroleum departments carry the highest historical GRA offer rates for Indian PhD applicants. Emailing target labs by October meaningfully improves the odds.
The GAANN fellowship is closed to Indian citizens. Every other item on this list is open to international PhD candidates.
External Government Scholarships for Missouri University of Science and Technology
Indian applicants stack Indian government and trust scholarships on top of Missouri S&T funding. Fulbright-Nehru remains the highest-value option for Master’s applicants with strong work experience.
| Scholarship | Amount (USD / INR) | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship | Full tuition + $2,000 monthly stipend + travel + insurance | Indian citizens, 3+ years work experience, Master’s applicants only | Tentative May 15, 2026 |
| Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship | 50 percent grant + 50 percent loan (variable, tuition-linked) | Master’s or PhD students, developing country nationals, needs-based | Tentative March 31, 2026 |
| Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation Scholarship | Up to INR 20 Lakhs (interest-free loan scholarship) | Indian citizens under 30, admitted PG students, needs-cum-merit | Tentative April 30, 2026 |
| Ratan Tata Trust Grant | Up to INR 10 Lakhs | Indian citizens with confirmed admit; needs-based only | Rolling |
Reddit Insight: Indian PhD admits in mining, petroleum, and materials engineering on r/gradadmissions report receiving GRA offers at admission itself, without needing to lobby faculty separately.
Indian applicants who plan the stack early can bring net cost close to zero:
- PhD track: Chancellor’s Distinguished Fellowship + GRA + Fulbright-Nehru covers tuition, stipend, and travel
- Master’s track: GTA + Inlaks or KC Mahindra covers most tuition and living costs
- UG track: Excellence Award + Departmental Award + Narotam Sekhsaria loan closes the remaining gap

- Our have many student organizations and the faculty members across the campus are very friendly and supportive. The Campus has one of the best student centric programs both academic and personal development.

Dislikes
- I don’t say I dislike but some area for improvement would be the connecting Academic advisor and their students.
- Maybe in terms of CS/IT some kind of workshops which directly connect the students with the university IT department that helps them to understand what to expect in real world scenarios and how their work will be
Scholarship
- One of the strongest areas for this university is scholarships; there are plenty of opportunities to get one.
- Based on academic record, all the applied students for their master's programme are eligible for a specific scholarship programme, in addition to that, which can be granted based on your academic performance and achievements after the 1st semester.
- Important note: All Applicants have a very high chance of getting a scholarship. I mean, personally, I didn’t see any student without a scholarship.
- I have opted for Off campus. Because financially it’s viable compared to on Campus.
- I found my accommodation with the help of the college-provided WhatsApp community and with some enquiries from my friend.
- Monthly rent varies from 500-975$
- My accommodation is very much nearer to the campus; it takes roughly 5 min. to walk from my place to reach the university.
- The location is very safe with 3 different law enforcement agencies patrolling 24/7.
