Fairleigh Dickinson University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Fairleigh Dickinson University admission requirements for Indian applicants centre on a recognised bachelor’s degree, verified transcripts, an English test score and a USD 100 application fee.

PG Requirements

  • Academic: Three or four-year bachelor’s degree with 55% or CGPA 5.5 out of 10 (recommended); the Silberman College of Business asks for CGPA 6.0 to 6.5 out of 10 for MBA (recommended).
  • English test: TOEFL iBT 70 (writing 4.5), IELTS 6.0, PTE 53, Duolingo 100, ITEP 3.7, GTEC 1150 or E3PT 65.
  • Credential verification: WES course-by-course evaluation is the accepted route for Indian bachelor’s transcripts.
  • Test scores: GRE and GMAT are waivable for most MS and MBA programmes with a strong academic record.

UG Requirements

  • Academic: Class 12 (CBSE, ISC or state board) with an overall band of 70% to 85% (recommended); Nursing and Computer Science expect the upper band.
  • English test: TOEFL iBT 70 (writing 4.5), IELTS 6.0, PTE 53 or Duolingo 100.
  • Financial documents: Bank statement covering one year of expenses plus an Affidavit of Financial Support are required for I-20 issuance.

Applicants short of English test scores can enter through the FDU Global Pathway (Pre-Master’s) at TOEFL 60, IELTS 5.5, PTE 50 or Duolingo 90, or the Pre-University Pathway at TOEFL 50, IELTS 5.0, PTE 45 or Duolingo 80. See related MSc universities in USA for comparison.

Key insight: An IELTS or TOEFL waiver is granted only after two years of full-time study in an English-medium country from the FDU-approved list, so Indian applicants from English-medium schools alone must still submit a test score.

Fairleigh Dickinson University Acceptance Rate 2027

Fairleigh Dickinson University acceptance rate is 88% (estimated) across its Metropolitan and Florham campuses, placing it in the accessible band for Indian applicants who meet the minimum academic and English thresholds. Selectivity varies programme by programme, with Nursing, DNP and Physician Assistant Studies running distinctly tighter cohorts than general undergraduate admissions.

FDU does not publish an official year-on-year applied vs admitted table, so the headline figure above is a session-derived third-party estimate rather than a university-published number. Programme-level admission rates are decided by faculty committees, so a strong academic record and a well-argued statement of purpose materially help.

Reality check: An 88% headline rate does not guarantee admission to Nursing, Physician Assistant or DNP tracks, where cohort caps and clinical placement limits mean fewer than one in three qualified applicants secure a seat.

Beyond the headline ranks, FDU’s Nursing programme is placed #28 nationally in US News 2024 and Hospitality Management is ranked #12 globally by CEOWORLD 2026, so subject fit matters as much as the overall rank when Indian students shortlist.

Key insight: For F-1 visa officers and Indian employers, a US-accredited university with a strong regional US News rank carries the same recognition weight as many globally-ranked universities in the mid-band, so FDU clears the standard bar.

FDU stands out on two dimensions: total-cost economics (per-credit MBA at USD 1,194 and merit awards up to USD 24,000) and Nursing depth, ranked #28 nationally by US News 2024 which most accessible-tier private peers cannot match. Compare with wider QS ranked universities in USA for tier context.

Fairleigh Dickinson University fits Indian applicants seeking a US-accredited private-university experience in the New York metro area at a total-programme investment of INR 45 lakh to INR 60 lakh, against a median FDU salary range of USD 48,000 to USD 131,000; the Silberman MBA, MS Computer Science and MSN carry the strongest ROI, and STEM OPT plus the 60-day F-1 grace period give a 36-month post-study in USA work window.

FDU is not the right fit for applicants targeting a top-100 QS or THE ranking, doctoral research at top-tier funding, or an Ivy-adjacent brand for hyper-competitive consulting recruiting; Rutgers University New Brunswick or Stevens Institute of Technology serve those goals better within New Jersey.

Fairleigh Dickinson University FAQs

Off-campus employment through Curricular Practical Training (CPT) becomes available after one academic year, and Optional Practical Training (OPT) unlocks 12 months of post-completion work rights, with a 24-month STEM extension for eligible degrees.

Ques. Does FDU waive the GRE or GMAT for Indian applicants?

Ans. Fairleigh Dickinson University waives GRE and GMAT for most MS and MBA programmes when the Indian applicant holds a bachelor’s with 55% or CGPA 5.5 out of 10 and provides two years of relevant work experience or a strong statement of purpose. The Silberman MBA and MS Management Information Systems have consistently granted waivers to Indian applicants meeting these thresholds, though DNP and Physician Assistant Studies retain full standardised test requirements.

Ques. What is the FDU application fee and can it be waived for Indian students?

Ans. Fairleigh Dickinson University charges an international application fee of USD 100 for undergraduate applicants and USD 50 for graduate applicants, payable by international credit or debit card during online submission. Fee waivers are rare for Indian students but may be granted through partner counselling agents, education fairs organised by FDU India representatives and select on-campus visits, so applicants should request a waiver code before starting the application.

Ques. Which Indian education loan providers recognise Fairleigh Dickinson University?

Ans. Fairleigh Dickinson University is recognised by all major Indian education loan providers including SBI, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank and non-banking lenders such as Avanse, Auxilo, InCred, MPower Financing and Prodigy Finance, with unsecured loans up to INR 60 lakh available for master’s programmes and secured loans up to INR 1.5 crore where collateral is offered.

Ques. What documents are needed for an F-1 dependent visa for FDU students?

Ques. Are FDU transcripts required to be evaluated through WES?

Ans. Fairleigh Dickinson University accepts course-by-course evaluations from World Education Services (WES) for Indian bachelor’s and master’s transcripts, and this is the recommended route. Applicants can also use ECE, SpanTran or IEE, though WES is the most widely accepted across US universities. The evaluation process takes four to six weeks from document submission, so Indian applicants should initiate WES at least six weeks before the 1 December or 1 July deadlines to avoid a late-file penalty.

Ques. Does Fairleigh Dickinson University offer conditional admission for weaker English scores?

Ans. FDU offers conditional admission to Indian applicants who fall short of the direct IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 70 threshold, routing them through the FDU Global Pathway (Pre-Master’s) with entry at IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 60, PTE 50 or Duolingo 90, or the Pre-University Pathway for undergraduates at IELTS 5.0, TOEFL 50, PTE 45 or Duolingo 80. Successful completion of the pathway unlocks direct progression into the degree programme without a fresh English test.

Overview

I got to know about the university through the consultant in India, the process was simple, I submitted my docs along with some requirements like IELTS, the fees for one course was about 3000 CAD. I applied for 3 other universities in USA. I liked the weather of Vancouver along with the opportunities to do things outside campus.

Fees

No scholarships are available for international students and the fees for us was pretty high, it was about 3000 CAD per course. There are many banks in India which provide education loans with zero interest, also some states in India which one providing scholarships to international students. Look out for it.
