Admission at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) occurs in Fall, Spring and summer sessions. The university has over 16,000 students studying including international students. UAA offers more than 100 degree and certificate courses. Courses available at the university are Hospitality Administration, Anthropology, History, Sociology, Political Science, Legal studies and Public Administration.

In Fall 2018 admissions, the university received 3745 applications out of which 3039 were accepted. It has an acceptance rate of 81.2%.

Undergraduate admission occurs based on high school graduation GPA and standardized test scores are not used for the same, however, they are used for math and writing course level placement.

University of Alaska Anchorage International Admissions

UAA has the Office of International Students (ISS) is to provide support services for prospective, incoming, and current F-1 and J-1 international students and scholars. The admission qualifications for international students are the same as domestic students with the addition of documented proof of English proficiency.

Academic requirements: Transcripts, Official transcripts and test scores, Proof of English proficiency.

Transcripts can be sent directly from the issuing institution to UAA Admissions through a secure electronic transcript service.

Official non-US high school (excluding US military) or post-secondary transcripts are to be submitted to World Education Services(WES). They should not be sent directly to UAA. WES will analyze international coursework/degrees and provide US equivalents to UAA.

Supporting documents: Certificate of financial support and financial documentation.

English Language Requirements: UAA does not offer conditional admission due to incomplete or low English proficiency test scores. Official test scores must be submitted via the testing centre to the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Visa requirements for International Students: International applicants require an F1 or J1 visa in order to travel to the United States.

  • After being admitted, UAA renders the I-20 after students accept their offer of admission by submitting their Enrollment Form and Tuition Prepayment (Deposit).
  • The University will then issue the Form I-20 to the International Applicants.
  • The documents required to receive the Form I-20 are as follows:
    • Copy of passport
    • Proof of financial support
    • Bank statement
    • Sponsor Letter, if applicable
  • After that, Applicants have to apply for the F-1 or J-1 visa.
  • In the end, Submit the form and make the payment.
  • Schedule and attend the visa interview.

University of Alaska, Anchorage Undergraduate Admissions

The university provides UG courses in the field of Journalism & Public Communication, Mathematics, Legal studies, Music, Philosophy, Justice and Languages. To apply for admission, the applicants need to fulfill the following requirements -

Academic requirements:

  • Official transcripts, GPA, ACT/SAT Scores
  • Minimum High School GPA of 2.5
  • Students with a 2.0-2.5 GPA may be admitted to certain baccalaureate programs with academic advising as a requirement.
