| Fall 2027 Transfer deadline | 30 June 2027 | Applies to Indian applicants transferring credits from another university |
Planning note: Indian applicants aiming for Fall 2027 should start credential evaluation via WES 8 to 10 weeks ahead. Suffolk needs an evaluated transcript before it issues an I-20.

Suffolk University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Indian applicants clear a short document set. The anchor is an evaluated transcript and one accepted English test. GRE or GMAT is not mandatory.
Suffolk University PG Requirements for Indian Applicants
- Academic eligibility: Bachelor’s degree with CGPA 5.5/10 or 55% aggregate (recommended); some Sawyer programmes prefer 6.0/10 for competitive tracks
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 80 on the 0-120 legacy scale, no subscore below 17. IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0). PTE Academic 65. Duolingo English Test 110. Michigan English Test 58, no subscore below 57
- Credential evaluation: Course-by-course evaluation through a NACES-member organisation strongly encouraged; official transcripts with certified English translation accepted
- Standardised tests: GRE and GMAT not required for most Suffolk masters including MBA and MS Business Analytics. PhD Clinical Psychology still needs GRE General
Suffolk University UG Requirements for Indian Applicants
- Academic eligibility: Class 12 with 65% to 80% aggregate from a recognised Indian board (recommended range). CBSE, ISC and state boards accepted
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 79 on the 0-120 legacy scale, TOEFL Essentials 8.5 or IELTS 6.5. PTE Academic 54, Duolingo 105 or Michigan English Test 58 also accepted. Scores must ship directly from the testing agency
- Test-flexible pathways: SAT EBRW 520 plus or ACT Composite 19 plus also work. IB HL English, IGCSE or A Level First Language English are accepted. A B average in AP English Language and Composition qualifies
Key insight: Indian applicants who finished CBSE or ICSE Class 12 in English can often waive the English test. Suffolk exempts applicants from school systems where English is the primary medium.
Suffolk University Acceptance Rate 2027
Suffolk University’s overall acceptance rate is 82% as per the US News Best Colleges 2026 admissions profile. This places it in the accessible tier of American private universities.
| Admission Round | Acceptance Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Overall (Fall 2024 entry) | 82% | US News Best Colleges 2026 profile |
| Early Action | 85% | Non-binding round, higher rate historically |
Selective master’s tracks such as PhD Clinical Psychology and MS Mental Health Counseling admit at far lower rates. Seats there are capped by faculty capacity.
Reality check: A high headline rate does not mean automatic admission for Indian applicants. Test-optional does not equal document-optional, and transcript evaluation plus English proof gate every international file before academic review.

Suffolk University Campus, Facilities and Student Life
Suffolk University sits in downtown Boston with buildings clustered on Beacon Hill and Tremont Street. Students walk to the Massachusetts State House, Boston Common and the financial district.
- Location and transport: The MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) Green, Red and Orange subway lines sit within a five-minute walk. A semester public transit pass covers all lines and most Suffolk students use it
- Housing: On-campus residence halls run at USD 22,782 per year with priority for first-year students. Upper-year international students often move to off-campus flats in Allston, Brighton or Cambridge
- Faculty and class size: 326 full-time and 249 part-time faculty support Suffolk. The undergraduate student-to-faculty ratio is 14 to 1
- Global reach: 50 plus study-abroad locations across 25 countries let masters and undergraduate students take a semester at partner sites
- Indian community: International students form 11% of the 6,403 student body from 47 countries. An active South Asian Association hosts Diwali, Holi and cricket meets each term
What Indian students say: Suffolk’s central location cuts commute time to internships in Boston finance and consulting firms. The trade-off is higher living costs than at suburban US campuses, offset by not needing a car.
Suffolk University Scholarships 2027

| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |

| Executive MBA Scholarship | Merit | USD 15,000 to USD 45,000 total (INR 13.3 to 39.8 lakh) | Admitted EMBA candidates with strong professional record | Rolling |
| INTO Suffolk Progression Scholarship | Pathway | Variable | Students transitioning from an INTO Suffolk pathway programme to a Suffolk degree | Aligned to pathway completion |
Planning note: Indian applicants with a first-class bachelor’s and strong quantitative subjects often land the top SBS Graduate Fellowship band. A GRE or GMAT score is not required, but a submitted score above the 80th percentile strengthens the merit review.

As per the US News Best Colleges 2026 Suffolk profile, Suffolk’s online MBA at Sawyer was named a Best Online MBA Program. Sawyer holds recognised strength in accounting, taxation and public administration.
Key insight: For Indian applicants, US News National Universities placement matters more than the absence of a QS world rank. It shapes F-1 visa officer perception and campus placement access. American recruiters read US News first.

Suffolk University Placements and Career Outcomes
Suffolk graduates post strong employment outcomes anchored by their downtown Boston location. 96% of the graduate Class of 2024 were employed or in further study within one year of graduation.
- Undergraduate employment: 93% of the Class of 2024 employed or in further study within 12 months (as per the Suffolk Career Equity 2024 outcomes)
- MBA employment: 76.2% of MBA students employed within three months of graduation (Sawyer Business School reported outcomes)
- Median starting salary: Not officially disclosed at institution level; programme-level salary data sits on the Suffolk Career Equity dashboard
- Top employer sectors: Financial services, healthcare, technology consulting, legal services and public policy hire heavily from Suffolk. Boston’s firm cluster drives this
- Career support and OPT: Every international graduate qualifies for a 12-month F-1 OPT. STEM-designated MS Business Analytics candidates get an added 24-month STEM OPT
Insider note: Indian graduates from STEM-designated masters at Suffolk get the strongest hiring outcomes. The 36-month combined OPT window matches most US employer H-1B sponsorship timelines.
Suffolk University vs Peer Universities
As per QS World University Rankings 2027 and each university’s published tuition schedule, Indian applicants short-listing Suffolk usually compare it against Boston-area peers. Peer picks share similar acceptance rates or programme mix in business and public policy.
| University | QS World 2027 | Avg Annual PG Tuition (USD) | Avg Annual PG Tuition (INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Suffolk University | Not ranked | USD 34,560 to USD 47,220 | 30.6 to 41.8 lakh | Test-flexible English policy; walkable downtown Boston campus |
| Boston University | #94 | USD 71,222 | 63.0 lakh | R1 research-intensive; QS top-100 world rank |
| Northeastern University | #385 | USD 70,872 | 62.7 lakh | Cooperative education across all masters programmes |
| University of Massachusetts, Boston | #1001-1200 | USD 36,000 (estimated) | 31.9 lakh (estimated) | Public research university with lower fees |
Suffolk stands out for Indian applicants who prioritise a downtown Boston address at close to public-university fees. Admissions also value flexible English proof pathways for CBSE and ICSE candidates.
Reality check: Choosing Suffolk over Boston University or Northeastern trades a lower QS brand for a lower price tag. That trade works if the target career is US-based in a Boston-cluster sector, not global mobility to Europe or Asia.
Suffolk University fits Indian applicants who want a mid-tier private US degree with automatic merit aid. The total investment sits at USD 145,000 (INR 128 lakh) for the two-year MBA. Graduate cohort placement runs at 96% within a year. Its F-1 OPT and STEM OPT pathways give MS applicants a 36-month post-study runway.
It is not the right fit for applicants chasing a QS top-100 brand for global mobility. Nor for those who want a research-intensive campus with PhD funding. Boston University offers the stronger research and world-rank profile there.
Suffolk University FAQs
Ques. Does Suffolk University offer STEM-designated masters for Indian students?
Ans. Yes. Suffolk University offers several STEM-designated master’s programmes, most notably MS Business Analytics at Sawyer Business School. These qualify graduates for a 24-month STEM OPT extension on top of the standard 12-month F-1 OPT. That gives Indian students up to 36 months of work authorisation in the US after graduation, which aligns closely with the multi-year H-1B lottery timeline for STEM roles.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time on campus during studies at Suffolk?
Ans. Yes, all F-1 visa holders at Suffolk may work on-campus up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and full-time during official breaks. Common on-campus roles include library assistants, research assistants and residence hall staff, paying USD 15 to USD 20 per hour in most cases. Off-campus work requires Curricular Practical Training or Optional Practical Training authorisation after the first academic year.
Ques. Is a GRE or GMAT score required for Suffolk MBA and MS admission?
Ans. No. Suffolk does not require GRE or GMAT scores for most Sawyer Business School master’s programmes, including the MBA, MS Business Analytics, MS Finance and MS Marketing. Applicants may submit a strong score to strengthen their merit scholarship review, but there is no minimum cutoff. PhD Clinical Psychology at the College of Arts and Sciences continues to require a GRE General score.
Ques. What is the Suffolk University application fee for Indian applicants?
Ans. The Suffolk University application fee is USD 50 for both undergraduate and graduate international applicants, payable online at submission through the Common Application or the Suffolk Application. Fee waivers are available on request through the international admissions office for applicants who can show documented financial hardship. The request should be sent before the application is submitted.
Ques. Which Indian education loan providers finance a Suffolk University degree?
Ans. Suffolk features on the approved US institution list of major Indian education lenders including HDFC Credila, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, State Bank of India, Prodigy Finance and MPOWER Financing. Collateralised loans typically cover up to INR 1.5 crore for master’s programmes. Unsecured lenders such as Prodigy and MPOWER can fund up to USD 100,000 without an Indian co-signer once an I-20 is issued.
Ques. How can Indian applicants waive the English proficiency test at Suffolk?
Ans. Indian applicants may waive TOEFL, IELTS or DET at Suffolk if they finished Class 12 with English as first language and medium of instruction at a CBSE, ICSE or IB school. A US-accredited degree earned within the last two years also qualifies. A B-average in AP English Language, IB HL English or A-Level English First Language on the transcript also demonstrates proficiency under the test-flexible policy.
Ques. What financial documents does Suffolk require for an I-20 to Indian applicants?
Ans. Suffolk requires an official bank statement or sponsor affidavit dated within six months, showing liquid funds covering one year of tuition plus living expenses. That is USD 75,000 to USD 87,000 for undergraduate applicants and USD 45,000 to USD 72,000 for graduate applicants. Accepted forms include Indian bank fixed deposit certificates, savings account statements and education loan sanction letters from HDFC Credila, SBI or similar approved lenders.
Ques. Does Suffolk University accept Indian three-year bachelor’s degrees for master’s admission?
Ans. Yes. Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School and College of Arts and Sciences accept three-year bachelor’s degrees from UGC-recognised Indian universities as equivalent to a US four-year bachelor’s for master’s admission, provided the applicant secured at least CGPA 5.5 on a 10-point scale. A NACES-member course-by-course evaluation, most commonly through WES, is strongly encouraged and often requested by the admissions office during review.

STEM-designated course and interest in coursework and the location was a plus.

Amenities are great though I couldn’t experience much due to Covid. The university wasn’t fully functional at that point.
