University of Missouri-Columbia Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Mizzou publishes distinct academic and English proficiency thresholds for undergraduate and graduate international applicants. Indian bachelor’s and Class 12 records are converted through published grade equivalents.

Postgraduate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree: Four-year bachelor’s with minimum 60% or CGPA 6.5/10 (recommended for competitive programmes)
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 4.5 (1-6 scale) or 80 (0-120 legacy scale), or IELTS Academic 6.5, or PTE 59, or Duolingo 115
  • Credential verification: WES or ECE evaluation for Indian transcripts, or direct transcript submission via home institution
  • GRE / GMAT: Waived for most master’s programmes; GMAT recommended for competitive MBA and finance applicants

Undergraduate Requirements

  • Class 12 academics: Minimum average grades of 80/100 (roughly 80% on Indian boards) as per Mizzou’s international academic threshold
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 4.5 (new 1-6 scale) or 79 (legacy 0-120 scale) with component minimum 17, IELTS 6.5 (band minimum 6.0), Duolingo 110 (component minimum 100), PTE 59, or Cambridge C1/C2 180
  • Core coursework: Class 12 stream must cover 4 units mathematics, 3 units science, 3 units social studies, 2 units languages, 1 unit fine arts

Note: The Mizzou School of Journalism sets an elevated English bar of TOEFL 100 (legacy) / 5.0 (new scale) or Duolingo 130, higher than the university-wide minimum.

University of Missouri-Columbia Acceptance Rate 2027

The University of Missouri-Columbia does not publish an official Fall 2027 acceptance rate, and third-party data places it at 78% (estimated) for the most recent undergraduate cycle. Selective master’s programmes such as MS Computer Science and MBA operate at lower internal admit rates than the university-wide figure.

Indian applicants with Class 12 above 80% and required English scores fall in the strong admit range for undergraduate programmes. Graduate admits depend heavily on Bachelor’s academic record, statement of purpose, and relevant work experience.

Reality check: A 78% university-wide rate is welcoming for Indian applicants, but individual programme admits, especially in Computer Science and Engineering master’s, run tighter.

University of Missouri-Columbia vs Peer Universities

Mizzou competes for Indian applicants against other Midwest US flagship public universities offering comparable STEM and business master’s at similar total cost.

Mizzou stands out for its combination of ARWU top-300 research output and non-coastal Midwest cost of living. Its Journalism School and MU Research Reactor remain the strongest differentiators against these peers.

The University of Missouri-Columbia fits the Indian applicant who wants a value-priced STEM master’s at an R1 US public with a clear OPT pathway. Total investment of INR 45.82 to 94.71 lakh across two years pairs with an engineering master’s median around INR 64.9 to 78.3 lakh in first-year salary, keeping ROI under three years for STEM graduates. The 36-month OPT extension for STEM master’s under the F-1 visa is the single strongest Indian-specific advantage.

Mizzou is not the strongest fit for applicants targeting elite US brand recognition or those seeking direct Silicon Valley placement, where higher-ranked peers such as Purdue University West Lafayette carry stronger name-brand pull for tech recruiters.

University of Missouri-Columbia FAQs

Ques. Does Mizzou accept the Duolingo English Test for international admission?

Ans. Yes, the University of Missouri-Columbia accepts the Duolingo English Test with an overall minimum of 110 and component minimum of 100 in each section for direct undergraduate admission. Applicants scoring between 100 and 109 may qualify for the Academic Integration at Mizzou (AIM) conditional pathway. The Journalism School requires an elevated Duolingo score of 130. Verify the current threshold on Mizzou Admissions before booking a test date.

Ques. How does Mizzou handle transcript verification for Indian applicants?

Ans. Mizzou accepts official transcripts sent directly by the Indian university or via a WES or ECE evaluation. Indian applicants must submit final Bachelor’s mark sheets and provisional degree certificates for graduate admission. Undergraduate applicants must include Class 12 board results with grading scale. WES processing typically takes 8 to 10 weeks, so begin the credential-verification step before the 1 December 2026 priority deadline for Fall 2027 entry.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time on campus at Mizzou?

Ans. F-1 international students at the University of Missouri-Columbia may work up to 20 hours per week on campus during semesters and 40 hours during official breaks. Typical on-campus roles include library assistants, research aides, dining services, and residence hall positions. Off-campus employment requires OPT or CPT authorisation and prior USCIS approval. Mizzou’s Handshake portal lists most on-campus openings for Indian students to apply.

Ques. What is the application fee at University of Missouri-Columbia?

Ans. The undergraduate international application fee at Mizzou is USD 75, roughly INR 7,159 at the current rate of INR 95.45 per US dollar. Graduate application fees are USD 75 for domestic applicants and USD 95 for international applicants (INR 9,068). Selected engineering and business master’s programmes may charge higher supplemental fees. The fee is non-refundable and must accompany the online application on admissions.missouri.edu or applygrad.missouri.edu.

Ques. Which Indian education loan providers recognise University of Missouri-Columbia?

Ans. Major Indian lenders including HDFC Credila, Avanse, ICICI Bank, Auxilo, InCred, and Prodigy Finance offer education loans for Mizzou students. State Bank of India provides Global Ed-Vantage loans up to INR 1.5 crore against property collateral. Non-collateral loan caps typically range between INR 40 to 75 lakh based on the applicant’s academic and financial profile. Mizzou’s fixed cost of attendance letter is required by most lenders during the sanction process.

Ques. Are GRE and GMAT scores required for Mizzou graduate programmes?

Ans. Most University of Missouri-Columbia master’s programmes have waived the GRE and GMAT requirement since 2020. The Trulaske College of Business MBA still recommends the GMAT for competitive applicants, though it waives the test for candidates with strong quantitative undergraduate records or 5+ years of managerial experience. Engineering and Data Science master’s admit without GRE, though a competitive score strengthens graduate assistantship funding decisions. Confirm current policy on each programme page.

Ques. Does Mizzou offer conditional admission through the AIM programme?

Ans. Yes, Academic Integration at Mizzou (AIM) admits undergraduate applicants who meet the academic threshold but score between 61 and 78 on TOEFL iBT (legacy scale) or 6.0 to 6.4 on IELTS. AIM students take integrated academic coursework alongside English language support during their first semesters. On successful completion, they transition to full degree status without reapplication. The programme charges an additional per-semester fee beyond standard tuition.

Ques. How much financial proof must Indian applicants show for their US visa?

Ans. F-1 visa applicants for Fall 2027 must demonstrate liquid funds covering the full first-year cost, which Mizzou publishes at approximately USD 52,000 for undergraduates and USD 45,000 to USD 65,000 for graduate programmes. Acceptable evidence includes recent bank statements, sanctioned education loan letters, and sponsor affidavits with Form I-134 if a US-based sponsor is involved. Mizzou issues the I-20 only after this documentation clears the international admissions office review.

Overview

Scholarships/financial aid, I received tuition covered so I only had to take out like 5000$ in loans for my first year. And it was only about an hour and a half from my home town. Also, their programs at Mizzou are top rated.

Fees

The fee structure was different, it's hard to explain. However, it is detailed out in your MYZOU account under billing and you can see what you are charged for. Also if you need more clarifying of why you were charged what, they will tell you immediately if you call Mizzou Financial Aid.

Overview

I liked the campus and its little college town, it felt very homey. They also receive good reviews on several programs: Business, Journalism, TAM. So, going for a journalism degree I decided that it would be the best place for me. It was also fairly easy to receive in-state tuition.

Fees

There is a journalism fee towards all classes associated, which is kind of odd because we do not use any extra materials in class and are expected to purchase very expensive materials all on our own. There are ways to get around this although teachers place special emphasis on actually purchasing Adobe products which are not cheap.

Each program at Mizzou might have slightly different English language proficiency requirements. However, you can explore the Mizzou courses to learn more about the curriculum, fees, and other details.

The University of Missouri accepts applications for admission in the Fall and Spring terms. You can submit your application to begin your study in any one of these terms. Before you apply, you must check the admission requirements, application deadline, documents requried, etc. for the program you have chosen.
