University of New Hampshire Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
UNH sets a graduate GPA floor of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, which translates to roughly 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 on Indian scales.
UNH PG Requirements for Indian Applicants
- Academic: Four-year bachelor’s degree with minimum 60% or CGPA 6.0/10; competitive applicants score 65% or CGPA 6.5/10 (recommended)
- English tests: TOEFL iBT 80 (0-120 legacy scale), IELTS Academic 6.5, or Duolingo 110 to 120
- Credential verification: WES course-by-course evaluation of all transcripts
- Standout: GRE is waived at most UNH graduate programmes for 2027; MBA and select STEM programmes may still request scores
UNH UG Requirements for Indian Applicants
- Academic: Class 12 with 70% to 85% depending on programme (recommended); engineering tracks require four years of mathematics and four years of science with lab work
- English tests: TOEFL iBT 87 (0-120 legacy scale) or 4.5 (1-6 scale, from January 2026); IELTS 6.5; PTE Academic 59; Duolingo 120; LanguageCert 70; TOEFL Essentials 8.5
- Credential verification: WES report of Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets
Key insight: UNH waives the English test for Indian applicants whose bachelor’s degree was completed in English medium at an accredited Indian university; a medium-of-instruction certificate from the registrar substitutes for TOEFL or IELTS.
University of New Hampshire Acceptance Rate 2027
The UNH acceptance rate is 87% for the most recent admission cycle, making it a high-acceptance option among US public research universities. The figure is an institution-wide undergraduate rate published in federal disclosures; graduate rates vary significantly by department.
Business Analytics and Computer Science graduate cohorts typically admit at rates closer to 40% to 55% because of self-selection and stronger academic filters. Undergraduate STEM programmes at UNH also see higher effective competition than the headline rate suggests.
Reality check: Indian applicants with a bachelor’s above 65% or CGPA 6.5/10 and a TOEFL iBT above 90 have historically converted admits at UNH graduate programmes, though funding remains competitive and often flows to the top decile of each cohort.

UNH is classified as an R1 Carnegie research institution and holds triple land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant status, one of only nine US universities to do so as per NASA and NOAA grant listings.
Key insight: UNH’s US News position clears the STEM university threshold that Indian employers and Canadian PGWP-equivalent visa panels typically check, though the QS band means the university is not automatically shortlisted by top-tier Indian MBA-preferred employers on rank alone.
University of New Hampshire Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
UNH graduates report strong six-month outcomes across STEM and business tracks, with the Peter T. Paul College reporting 90%+ employment for MBA graduates.
- Undergraduate outcomes: 93% of the Class of 2024 reported employment or graduate school placement within six months of graduation
- Median starting salary (BS): USD 62,000 (INR 59.2 lakh) as per UNH Career and Professional Success 2024 outcomes
- Median MS starting salary (STEM): USD 82,000 to USD 95,000 (INR 78.3 to 90.7 lakh) (market median)
- Top recruiter sectors: Software and IT services, financial services, biotech, aerospace and defence, healthcare analytics
- Career support: Wildcat Careers portal, on-campus recruiting fairs, industry mentorship through the Manchester campus fintech network
Insider note: Indian MS Business Analytics and MS Cybersecurity graduates commonly place at Boston-area consulting and technology employers using STEM OPT, since Durham sits within a 90-minute commute of the Route 128 tech corridor.
University of New Hampshire vs Peer Universities
The peer set below covers other US public research universities in New England and the northeast that Indian applicants commonly cross-shop with UNH.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | Avg Annual PG Fee | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|
| University of New Hampshire | #1201-1400 | USD 27,810 (INR 26.5 lakh) | Best-value public with STEM OPT programmes |
| University of Massachusetts Amherst | #237 | USD 34,500 (INR 32.9 lakh) | Higher research profile, broader PhD ladder |
| University of Connecticut | #411 | USD 40,110 (INR 38.3 lakh) | Stronger business and actuarial science |
| University of Vermont | #801-850 | USD 41,280 (INR 39.4 lakh) | Health sciences and environmental focus |
| University of Maine | #1001-1200 | USD 27,120 (INR 25.9 lakh) | Similar cost band, smaller Indian community |
UNH’s edge is the combination of a top-10 public best-value rank and STEM designation on flagship graduate programmes, which keeps total spend meaningfully lower than UMass Amherst or UConn while retaining the 36-month OPT window.
For Indian students prioritising ROI over headline QS rank, UNH’s total two-year MS investment of INR 55 to 75 lakh compares favourably with a median STEM starting salary of INR 78 lakh, offering a payback window under two years for graduates placing in the Boston metro. The trade-off is limited PhD-ladder visibility versus UMass Amherst; applicants pursuing eventual doctoral study or academic careers may prefer higher-ranked peers.
UNH is a strong fit for cost-sensitive Indian applicants who value STEM OPT eligibility and a small-cohort, faculty-led MS experience. It is not the right pick for applicants targeting Ivy-adjacent brand equity or top-100 QS rank; those profiles should compare Boston University or Northeastern instead.
University of New Hampshire FAQs
Ques. Is GRE required for MS admission at University of New Hampshire?
Ans. GRE is waived at most UNH graduate programmes for 2027 entry, including MS Computer Science, MS Business Analytics and MS Information Technology. MBA and select STEM programmes may still request GRE or GMAT scores, so applicants should verify the requirement on the specific programme page at gradschool.unh.edu before assuming a waiver applies.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at UNH?
Ans. F-1 visa holders at UNH can work on-campus up to 20 hours per week during the academic session and full-time during official breaks. Off-campus employment requires CPT or OPT authorization after two consecutive semesters. Graduate assistantship holders on F-1 or J-1 visas are not permitted supplemental campus appointments during the academic session under UNH policy.
Ques. Does University of New Hampshire waive the English test for Indian applicants?
Ans. UNH waives TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo for Indian applicants whose bachelor’s degree was completed in English medium at an accredited Indian university. A medium-of-instruction certificate from the registrar substitutes for the test score. Applicants from non-English-medium institutions must submit a valid score within two years of the test date.
Ques. What is the University of New Hampshire application fee for Indian students?
Ans. The application fee is USD 65 (INR 6,204) for masters, EdS and PhD programmes, and USD 25 (INR 2,386) for certificate programmes. The fee is non-refundable and payable by credit card during online submission. UNH does not currently offer fee waivers for international applicants; only US Armed Forces members, veterans and McNair Scholars qualify.
Ques. Are online MS programmes at UNH open to Indian students in India?
Ans. UNH offers fully online MS programmes including MS Cybersecurity Policy and Risk Management and the online MBA, which Indian students can complete from India without a US visa. These programmes do not qualify for OPT since no US physical presence is involved. Students seeking work rights in the US should choose on-campus MS variants instead.

Ans. UNH is recognised by major Indian education lenders including HDFC Credila, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, State Bank of India and Avanse Financial Services. Loans typically cover tuition, living expenses and travel up to INR 75 lakh unsecured for STEM masters programmes. Prodigy Finance and MPOWER also offer no-cosigner loans for UNH admits at competitive US-market rates.
Ques. What financial proof do Indian applicants need for the UNH I-20?
Ans. UNH requires a Certification of Finances showing liquid funds covering one full academic year of tuition and living expenses, roughly USD 55,000 to USD 65,000 (INR 52.5 to 62.0 lakh) for MS applicants. Acceptable proof includes bank statements, sanctioned education loan letters and sponsor affidavits with supporting documents. Documents must be dated within six months of submission.
Ques. How long can Indian graduates stay in the US after UNH under OPT?
Ans. Indian graduates on F-1 visas receive 12 months of standard OPT after completing a UNH degree. STEM-designated programmes including MS Business Analytics, MS Computer Science, MS Cybersecurity Engineering and MS Economics qualify for an additional 24-month STEM OPT extension, taking total post-study work authorization to 36 months. - Large campus ( Our campus is very big and it is well connected with the campus bus routes.) there are three campuses for UNH, One is In Durham(Main campus), 2nd is in manchester and 3rd one is in Concord Durham campus is the main campus and most of the courses will be offered here except information technology, biotechnology and cybersecurity (These courses will be offered in UNH manchester) and coming to UNH-Concord campus, here they will offer you the LAW courses. Note: These three campuses are far from each other so even UNH won't run any bus routes between three campuses, so if some people who are thinking that we can go from UNH manchester to UNH Durham absolutely no there is no public connectivity you need to figure it out on your own.
- Courses: University offers wide variety of courses with different specialisations, moreover most of the professors offer RA's(In the US, professors are usually involved in a lot of research work, and since they can’t handle everything on their own, they hire students to help out as research assistants. You don’t necessarily need to have all the knowledge beforehand, as long as you’re curious and willing to learn, you can still be a great fit.)if you have any interest in your masters field you can contact professor, if they have any opening position for any research assistantship he will let you know about the procedure of hiring for the position. Most of the professors will have atleast one RA's so my suggestion is to mail professor so you can get a position for RA and here come the fun part if you got selected for RA they will wave off your semester fee or in some cases they will wave off your entire course fee.
- Great community: In one sentence UNH is welcoming community, as i am an international student i was struggled initially with cultural change but later i met great people and they made me feel like I am in my second home ( Note: you can find lot of good communities in university, where I am from india we do have one community called DSA(Desi Students Association) we were part of it and we used to celebrate every festival together in the university and even university is also welcoming for such kind of events.)
Dislikes
- I feel this university is bit expensive depends on your course as I did my masters in business analytics i paid roughly 45000 usd per year, for average middle class indian paying 45000 usd is expensive
- if you are new to US and you don't have friends in US, it is very difficult for you for first time to reach the campus, nearest international airport is boston so from boston to the campus if you book a cab it will costs you more than 100 dollars for one way but you can take bus from airport(C&J bus) then you should get down at portsmouth or Dover( these two places are nearest places where you can find bus terminals from there you have to take a cab. if you follow this procedure you can save 50 dollars) but you can choose one more option our campus has Amtrak connectivity you can take train from boston to UNH directly it might cost you like 25 dollars(I would not recommend for new students).
- Housing: you can find good places near to the campus but you don't have too many options and moreover you won't find too many indians so it is very difficult for you to find a room which is affordable.
Campus Life
-
UNH have 3 campuses
UNH-Durham(Main campus)
UNH-Manchester
UNH-Concord -
I have studies in main campus so we do have everything like library, sports complex, Hospital, Restaurants, Shopping marts everything.
- There will be a event every day and you can't judge weather the event is major or not, each branch will celebrate different events for example international office celebrates atleast 1 event every month and their moto is to international students should not feel alone.
- coming to clubs you can find number of clubs like gaming club, guitar club, asian club, desi club ect.
Fees
-
Tuition fee: 38000-39000 (varies from course to course)
Insurance:5500-6000(insurance is mandatory you cannot opt out this)
Living: room rent-650- 900 (depends if you are sharing with your friends you can find rooms between 500 - 650 usd per month)
Electricity and water bill: 50 -100 usd/month
Phone bill : 30 usd/month
Groceries: 70-100(it varies to individual mine was around 100). -
At UNH you need to pay semester-wise and if you ask me roughly it would be around 3000 usd/credit.
-
If you want a individual room and everything then it would go up to1500-1700 usd/month

Overview
I visited friends at this college during my senior year of high school and fell in love with the campus. The admissions process was fairly simple. I always felt supported and encouraged to apply. I applied to 11 different colleges actually, as I was nervous I would not get accepted into many colleges. I ended up getting accepted to 9 out of 11 colleges but ultimately decided on unh. I felt the program here really supported its students and truly wanted them to succeed and this was massively important to me. I did not feel this at any of the other colleges I was accepted into.
Fees
Currently out of state tuition+room and board is about $55,000. I received a $4,000 director scholarship from the school. The criteria that comes with this scholarship is that I must maintain a 3.7 GPA or higher throughout the semester in order to be awarded the scholarship. This was the second-highest academic scholarship available.
Overview
Great Business school for one, but also because of the student body diversity. It was cool to meet so many different and interesting people throughout my time there. It was also close to home, which was a big focal point for me.
Fees
I do not remember - this was all handled by my parents. I was lucky enough to not have to worry about this. I remember it being fairly high for a state school, though.
