The University of North Georgia is a public multi-campus institution headquartered in Dahlonega, Georgia, and one of only six federally designated senior military colleges in the United States. UNG is ranked #49 in the 2026 US News Regional Universities South list, its strongest national placement.
The University of North Georgia runs five campuses across north Georgia and offers more than 100 English-medium bachelor’s programmes plus a focused catalogue of master’s degrees, with the Dahlonega campus hosting most on-campus international enrolment. UNG serves two primary intakes for international applicants: Fall in August and Spring in January, since the summer term is closed to international admissions. Its public-university tuition and small class sizes give Indian applicants a practical route into universities in USA without Ivy-tier pricing.
- Ranking: #49 US News Regional Universities South (2026 edition)
- Acceptance rate: 77% (estimated)
- Intakes: Fall (deadline 1 May) and Spring (deadline 1 November for graduate)
- PG out-of-country tuition: USD 24,936 per year (INR 23.56 lakh) for standard master’s

Indian applicants must show USD 43,000 (INR 40.64 lakh) in liquid funds for a bachelor’s I-20 or USD 36,000 (INR 34.02 lakh) for an associate degree. UNG does not offer institutional scholarships to international students, so most Indian applicants pair tuition with external Indian education loans and the on-campus employment allowance built into the F-1 visa.
Exchange rate used: 1 USD = INR 94.5 as of September 2026
Admission Status: Open (Spring 2027 intake). The graduate international deadline for Spring 2027 is 1 November 2026, and the Fall 2027 graduate deadline is 1 May 2027. UNG does not admit international students to the summer term, so Fall 2027 (August start) is the next primary intake once Spring closes.

Insider note: Indian applicants at UNG cluster in the College of Education master’s tracks and B.S. Computer Science at the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses because these routes carry the lowest out-of-country tuition and clearest F-1 workload compliance.

University of North Georgia Admission 2027
The University of North Georgia opens two international intakes each year: Fall in August and Spring in January. Fall is the primary intake for Indian applicants because most graduate programmes launch new cohorts in August and financial documentation windows align better with US embassy visa slots for June and July.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Spring 2027 graduate application deadline | 1 November 2026 | Universal deadline for all international graduate applicants unless a programme lists an earlier date |
| Fall 2027 graduate application deadline | 1 May 2027 | Primary Fall intake for Indian PG applicants |
| Undergraduate deadlines | Verify at ung.edu | Fall UG applications typically close 1 May; check the official application deadlines page |
| Credential evaluation (WES or NACES) | Begin 8 to 12 weeks before deadline | Course-by-course evaluation required for all Indian transcripts |
| Programme start | January 2027 (Spring) or August 2027 (Fall) | UNG does not admit international students to the summer term |
[Source: University of North Georgia Graduate Program Application Deadlines]
Planning note: Indian applicants targeting Fall should aim to submit the WES or NACES evaluation request in February so evaluated transcripts reach the University of North Georgia by the 1 May cut-off, since Indian university transcripts often take 6 to 10 weeks to process.
Applicants planning to study in USA at UNG should note that international students cannot enrol in fully online or part-time programmes and must maintain at least nine credit hours per semester to hold F-1 status.

University of North Georgia Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
The University of North Georgia admission requirements for Indian students prioritise verified academic transcripts, English proficiency, and evidence of funds for the F-1 I-20.
Graduate applicants:
- Academic: Bachelor’s degree with 55% marks or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended) evaluated by a NACES or AICE member service
- English test minimum: TOEFL iBT 79 or IELTS 6.5 (per the official international graduate page); scores valid for two years
- Credential verification: Course-by-course evaluation from WES, ECE, or another NACES or AICE member
- Financial proof: Bank statement covering one year of tuition plus living expenses
Undergraduate applicants:
- Academic: Class 12 with 60% to 75% marks (recommended); transfer applicants need 2.0 GPA
- English test minimum: TOEFL iBT 4.0 on the 1-6 scale (79 on the legacy 0-120 scale), IELTS Academic 6.5, PTE Academic 58, Cambridge English Scale 177
- Financial proof: USD 43,000 (INR 40.64 lakh) in the applicant or sponsor’s bank account for a bachelor’s I-20
Key insight: UNG accepts an English proficiency waiver if the Indian applicant completed a bachelor’s degree where English was the official medium of instruction, evidenced by a NACES-verified letter. This saves the IELTS or TOEFL registration fee and 4 to 6 weeks of test scheduling.
University of North Georgia Acceptance Rate 2027
The University of North Georgia acceptance rate is 77% (estimated), based on aggregated third-party admissions data. UNG does not publish a single official institution-wide acceptance percentage; the estimate reflects a lenient admission policy typical of Regional Universities South.
The headline number obscures programme variation: Doctor of Physical Therapy and Master of Science in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner) admit smaller cohorts and post narrower yield rates, while College of Education master’s tracks admit qualified international candidates more consistently.
Reality check: A 77% headline rate does not mean 77% of international applicants receive an I-20. Indian applicants must still pass credential evaluation, English test minimums, and financial documentation review, which knocks the effective yield lower for weakly documented files.

[Source: University of North Georgia official cost estimate 2026-2027]
Insider note: Off-campus housing near the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses runs USD 700 to USD 1,000 per month for a shared apartment, roughly 25% lower than the on-campus housing charge, but adds a compulsory transportation cost that many Indian students underestimate.
University of North Georgia Campus, Facilities and Student Life
The University of North Georgia operates five campuses across the state: Dahlonega (residential and main), Gainesville, Cumming, Blue Ridge, and Oconee. Dahlonega is the only fully residential campus and hosts the Corps of Cadets alongside civilian undergraduates.
- Location and transport: Dahlonega sits 65 miles north of Atlanta with campus shuttle links to nearby campuses; UNG does not run a direct Atlanta airport shuttle
- Housing: On-campus rooms at Dahlonega are guaranteed to first-year international students who apply by 15 May; commuter campuses do not offer residence halls
- Notable facility: UNG operates the Georgia Boys State civic education programme and one of six federally designated senior military college Corps of Cadets in the US
- Indian student community: Small but active; the International Student Association hosts orientation, tax filing workshops, and Indian festival events at the Dahlonega campus
What Indian students say: The Dahlonega campus feels compact and safer than urban US campuses, and the professor-to-student ratio makes it easier to secure recommendation letters for future PhD or industry applications. Off-campus grocery access is limited without a car.
University of North Georgia Scholarships 2027
The University of North Georgia does not offer institutional merit or need-based scholarships to international undergraduate or graduate applicants. The UNG Financial Aid office publishes foundation and departmental scholarships that are open to US citizens and permanent residents only, so Indian applicants must plan tuition around external funding routes.
Indian applicants at UNG typically combine three funding routes:
- Indian education loans: HDFC Credila, Avanse, ICICI, SBI, and Axis Bank fund US master’s programmes on a fully collateralised or partially collateralised basis
- External scholarships for Indian students: KC Mahindra Scholarship, JN Tata Endowment, and Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation accept applications from Indians admitted to accredited US universities
- On-campus employment: F-1 visa rules allow 20 hours per week on-campus work during semester, which can offset personal expenses
Planning note: Confirm the current international scholarship policy at ung.edu/financial-aid before applying, since institutional funding rules for non-resident aliens can change each academic year. Do not budget on institutional aid alone when filing your I-20 financial documentation.

University of North Georgia Rankings 2027
The University of North Georgia’s strongest ranking recognition sits in US News’s regional and teaching-focused tables. UNG is not currently placed in the QS World University Rankings 2027, the THE World University Rankings 2026, or the ARWU Shanghai 2025 edition, so its ranking profile is domestic rather than global.
| Ranking Body | Latest Edition Placement |
|---|---|
| US News Regional Universities South | 2026 edition: #49 |
| US News Best Undergraduate Teaching | 2026 edition: #18 |
| US News Best Colleges for Veterans (Regional South) | 2026 edition: verify at usnews.com |

| THE World University Rankings 2026 | Not ranked |
| ARWU Shanghai 2025 | Not ranked |
[Source: US News Best Colleges 2026 profile for University of North Georgia]
Key insight: UNG’s US News regional placement satisfies the F-1 visa officer’s baseline test that the applicant is joining an accredited, ranked US institution, but Indian employers who filter on QS global cutoffs may not recognise the UNG brand for MNC pre-placement pools.
University of North Georgia Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
The University of North Georgia routes career support through its central Career Services team, which runs employer visits, resume workshops, and internship coordination. UNG does not publish a single central placement rate or median starting salary figure; outcome data varies by school and cohort.
- Median starting salary: UNG does not disclose an institution-wide figure; third-party market data places typical UNG graduate starting salaries in the USD 50,000 to USD 60,000 band (INR 47.25 lakh to INR 56.70 lakh)
- Named recruiter list: Not officially disclosed; sectoral hiring concentrates in Georgia public administration, K-12 education, healthcare, and metro Atlanta finance and technology employers
- Career support: Career Services hosts on-campus employer fairs each semester, resume clinics, and one-to-one interview practice; virtual advising is available for online master’s cohorts
- Post-study work: Indian graduates on F-1 status qualify for 12 months of OPT for non-STEM degrees and up to 36 months (24-month STEM extension) for eligible STEM programmes including B.S. Computer Science
- MBA follow-on: UNG applicants often shortlist MBA universities in USA for later career pivots after gaining 2 to 3 years of US work experience via OPT
Insider note: UNG does not run a dedicated international recruiting pipeline. Indian graduates typically self-drive job searches through LinkedIn, USG job boards, and Atlanta-area career fairs; those applying for the STEM OPT extension should also read a study MBA in USA comparison before committing to a second degree.
University of North Georgia vs Peer Universities
Indian applicants weighing the University of North Georgia typically compare it against three fellow Georgia public universities that share the affordability and Fall-Spring intake structure. Peers are chosen on tuition band, US Regional South placement, and typical Indian student shortlist behaviour.
| University | QS World 2027 | US News 2026 | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD/INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| University of North Georgia | Not ranked | #49 Regional South | 24,936 / 23.56 lakh | Senior military college with five-campus footprint in north Georgia |
| Kennesaw State University | Not ranked | National Universities tier | Verify at ksu.edu | Larger metro Atlanta public with broader graduate catalogue |
| Georgia Southern University | Not ranked | National Universities tier | Verify at georgiasouthern.edu | Coastal Georgia public research university with three campuses |
| Valdosta State University | Not ranked | Regional Universities South | Verify at valdosta.edu | South Georgia public with education graduate strength |
UNG stands out among these peers on two counts. Its published out-of-country tuition sits at the lower end of the Georgia public band, and its senior military college designation gives it access to federal Corps of Cadets funding programmes that Kennesaw, Georgia Southern, and Valdosta do not carry.
The University of North Georgia is the right fit for an Indian applicant who wants a US bachelor’s or master’s under INR 25 lakh per year, values small class sizes over research prestige, and is comfortable committing to the Dahlonega campus. The total investment of INR 40 lakh to INR 50 lakh per year against a market median starting salary near INR 54 lakh gives a workable ROI when paired with a 12-month or 36-month OPT window on the F-1 student visa.
UNG is not the right fit for applicants targeting global QS-ranked brand recognition, dedicated on-campus placement pipelines, or a metro-city campus setting. Candidates prioritising those factors should look at larger US publics such as Arizona State University or Georgia State University in Atlanta.
University of North Georgia FAQs
Ques. Which UNG campuses admit international students for on-campus study?
Ans. The Dahlonega campus is the primary residential base for international students at the University of North Georgia. Gainesville hosts selected graduate cohorts, while Cumming, Blue Ridge, and Oconee run as commuter campuses without residence halls. F-1 international students must maintain on-campus or in-person study since UNG does not admit international applicants to fully online programmes.
Ques. Does University of North Georgia require the GRE or GMAT for graduate admission?
Ans. UNG does not list the GRE or GMAT as a universal requirement on its international graduate admissions page. Individual programmes may request the GRE for research-heavy or clinical tracks such as Doctor of Physical Therapy, so Indian applicants should verify the exact test policy on the target programme page before booking a test slot.
Ques. Can UNG international students work part-time on an F-1 visa?
Ans. Yes. F-1 rules allow University of North Georgia international students to work up to 20 hours per week on-campus during term and full-time during official breaks. Off-campus employment requires Curricular Practical Training or Optional Practical Training authorisation from the UNG designated school official. On-campus roles typically pay USD 10 to USD 15 per hour.
Ques. How does University of North Georgia verify Indian academic transcripts?
Ans. UNG requires a course-by-course credential evaluation from a NACES or AICE member service such as WES, ECE, or Educational Perspectives. The report must confirm that the Indian bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a regionally accredited US degree and include the cumulative GPA. Indian applicants should initiate WES verification 8 to 12 weeks before the application deadline.
Ques. What financial documentation must Indian applicants show for a UNG I-20?
Ans. The University of North Georgia requires proof of USD 43,000 (INR 40.64 lakh) in liquid funds for a bachelor’s I-20 or USD 36,000 (INR 34.02 lakh) for an associate degree. Graduate applicants must document sufficient funds to cover the first year’s tuition plus living costs. Acceptable evidence includes bank statements, sponsor affidavits, and approved education loan letters.
Ques. Which Indian education loan partners fund studies at University of North Georgia?
Ans. Major Indian lenders including HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, ICICI Bank, SBI, and Axis Bank routinely fund F-1 studies at UNG on collateralised or partially collateralised terms. UNG does not publish an official preferred-lender list, so applicants should approach lenders directly using the I-20 and admit letter for loan sanction and disbursement documentation.
Ques. What is the University of North Georgia refund policy for withdrawing students?
Ans. UNG applies the University System of Georgia Board of Regents refund schedule. Students who withdraw before the term starts receive a full tuition refund. During the add-drop window the refund is prorated based on the number of instructional days completed. After the published cutoff no tuition refund is issued, though mandatory fees may be partially refundable case by case.
Ques. Can Indian civilian students enrol at UNG despite its military college status?
Ans. Yes. The Corps of Cadets track at the University of North Georgia is optional and concentrated at the Dahlonega campus. Most UNG students are civilian and never join the Corps. Indian international students typically enrol as civilian undergraduates or graduate candidates; the military college designation does not impose Corps enrolment on non-Corps applicants.

Overview
I chose this school because it is just a 30-minute drive for me, so it is not too far. The school is inexpensive compared to Georgia State or The University of Georgia. The classroom sizes stay around 20-30 students which at Georgia State it would be 100+ students per class.
Fees
There are science labs fees and little fees, but for the most part, everything is disclosed and the fees are fair.
