University of North Georgia Admission 2027

UNG runs two annual intakes for Indian applicants — Fall (August) and Spring (January) — with the Fall intake absorbing the larger international cohort. Deadlines below are drawn from UNG’s international admission page and confirmed for the current cycle; applicants to selective programmes such as BSN Nursing face earlier internal cutoffs.

MilestoneDateNotes for Indian Applicants
Spring 2027 application deadline (international)1 October 2026Closing soon; limited programme seats remain
Fall 2027 application deadline (international)1 April 2027Primary intake; the larger admit cohort
Credential verification (WES / ECE)Start 8 to 10 weeks before deadlineOrder attested transcripts from your Indian institution first
Programme startAugust 2027Orientation in August; classes begin the third week

Planning note: Order the WES course-by-course evaluation the moment you receive attested transcripts. Indian applicants routinely lose two to three weeks waiting on university-side attestation, which then cascades into missed I-20 processing timelines.

University of North Georgia Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

UNG uses academic transcripts, English proficiency scores and third-party credential evaluation as the core Indian-applicant filter. Requirements sit below.

Postgraduate (PG) requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 55% to 60% or CGPA 5.5 to 6.0/10 from a recognised Indian university (recommended); STEM PG tracks favour the 60% band
  • TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS 6.5, PTE Academic 58, or Duolingo English Test 105; verify at UNG International Admissions
  • WES or ECE course-by-course credential evaluation, financial affidavit for I-20, statement of purpose
  • GRE optional for most MS programmes; MBA does not require GMAT for waiver-eligible applicants

Undergraduate (UG) requirements:

  • Class 12 with 70% to 85% aggregate from CBSE, ICSE or a recognised state board (recommended); BSN Nursing seats favour the 80% band
  • TOEFL iBT 69, IELTS 6.0, PTE Academic 53, or Duolingo 95; verify at UNG International Admissions
  • WES or ECE evaluation, F-1 financial affidavit, one academic reference

Key insight: An IELTS waiver is available where the Indian applicant completed the last three years of school in an English-medium institution and can produce a signed letter from the principal. UNG accepts this in place of a test score, unlike many US publics.

University of North Georgia Acceptance Rate 2027

UNG operates an 85% (estimated) acceptance rate across undergraduate and graduate admissions combined. The university does not publish a single official international-only rate; the figure above is derived from institutional common data set summaries and remains directionally reliable for Indian applicants.

YearAcceptance RateTrend
202585% (estimated)Stable
202484% (estimated)Stable
202382% (estimated)Slight rise

Indian applicants meeting the 55% academic floor and English test minimum face a high probability of admission for the general programme pool. Nursing, cybersecurity and physical therapy tracks apply tighter internal cutoffs than the campus-wide rate suggests.

Reality check: A high acceptance rate is not a guarantee — visa officers still evaluate financial documentation and ties to India. Prepare a clean SEVIS I-901 receipt, a bank balance affidavit and a considered SOP even when the campus admit itself feels routine.

University of North Georgia Fees and Cost of Living for Indian Students 2027

Total annual cost for an Indian student at UNG runs USD 38,000 to 44,000 (INR 35.9 to 41.6 lakh), combining out-of-state tuition with on-campus or near-campus living in Dahlonega. Dahlonega and Gainesville sit well below Atlanta metro cost bands, which is a core reason Indian applicants prefer UNG to inner-Atlanta publics.

University of North Georgia Campus, Facilities and Student Life

UNG spans five campuses — Dahlonega (main), Gainesville, Oconee, Cumming and Blue Ridge — set in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains, roughly 90 minutes north of Atlanta.

  • Location and transport: Dahlonega campus is 90 minutes by car from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta airport; shuttle services and Uber connect the campus to Gainesville and Atlanta MARTA transit
  • Housing: On-campus residence halls cost USD 3,200 to 4,800 per semester (INR 3.0 to 4.5 lakh); international students are not guaranteed housing but can apply through the priority queue
  • Facilities: Library Technology Center, Cyber Range for cybersecurity practicums, nursing simulation labs, and outdoor recreation infrastructure across mountain trails
  • Indian community: Indian Student Association hosts Diwali, Holi and Republic Day events; the Gainesville campus hosts the larger South Asian cohort

What Indian students say: Off-campus rent is genuinely affordable compared to Atlanta or Athens. The military-college character shapes campus culture at Dahlonega, but civilian international students are not required to join the Corps of Cadets.

University of North Georgia Scholarships 2027

UNG offers a limited set of merit-based awards to international students, alongside institutional out-of-state waivers that are more valuable than most named scholarships.

Planning note: Scholarship inventory for international students at UNG is smaller than at flagship publics. Indian applicants should plan financial documentation as if paying full out-of-state tuition, and treat any award as an upside.

University of North Georgia Rankings 2027

UNG’s strongest recurring ranking is US News Best Regional Universities South, where it holds rank #34 in the 2025 edition. The university is not ranked in the QS World, THE World or US News Best Global Universities tables — those bodies focus on doctoral research output.

US News also names UNG a Top Public School in the South region and lists it among Top Performers on Social Mobility, both signals that matter to Indian applicants weighing return on investment.

Key insight: US News Regional Universities South is a legitimate benchmark for US employer recognition inside the Southeast, and for F-1 to H-1B pathway hiring at regional firms. Indian applicants targeting global-tier consulting or investment banking should instead look at QS-ranked flagship publics.

University of North Georgia Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

UNG reports strong graduate employment outcomes anchored by nursing, cybersecurity and business tracks, with placement concentrated in the Atlanta metro corridor.

  • Employment within six months of graduation: 85% (estimated, for BSN Nursing and Cybersecurity cohorts)
  • Median starting salary (BS graduates): USD 52,000 (INR 49.1 lakh, market median)
  • Median MS starting salary: USD 65,000 (INR 61.4 lakh, market median)
  • Median MBA starting salary: USD 70,000 (INR 66.2 lakh, market median)
  • Top recruiter sectors: Healthcare systems, cybersecurity consultancies, regional banks, defence contractors; specific recruiter names not publicly disclosed by UNG
  • OPT pathway: 12-month OPT for all F-1 graduates; STEM programmes qualify for the 24-month extension to a full 36 months
  • Career support: UNG Career Services runs employer expos and hosts on-campus interviews with Georgia public-sector agencies and Atlanta-area private firms

Insider note: Indian graduates from MS Cybersecurity and MS Computer Science have the strongest H-1B conversion odds via STEM OPT. Non-STEM graduates should plan for a compressed 12-month OPT window and target employers with a track record of H-1B sponsorship.

University of North Georgia vs Peer Universities

Peers below are drawn from University System of Georgia and adjacent Southern regional publics that Indian applicants typically shortlist alongside UNG.

UniversityQS Rank 2027US News Regional / GlobalAvg Annual PG FeeDifferentiator
University of North GeorgiaNot ranked#34 Regional SouthUSD 28,000 (INR 26.5 lakh) (estimated)Lowest tuition in the peer set, small-town setting

Georgia Southern UniversityNot ranked#79 Regional South (estimated)USD 30,000 (INR 28.4 lakh) (estimated)Coastal Georgia setting, strong engineering
Georgia State UniversityNot ranked#249 National (estimated)USD 36,000 (INR 34.0 lakh) (estimated)Downtown Atlanta location, R1 research classification
University of West GeorgiaNot ranked#96 Regional South (estimated)USD 28,500 (INR 26.9 lakh) (estimated)Similar tuition to UNG, larger education programmes

UNG stands out on affordability and student-to-faculty ratio inside the Georgia public system. Indian applicants prioritising Atlanta-metro access should weigh Georgia State, while those anchored on cybersecurity should stay with UNG given its designated Cyber Range facility.

University of North Georgia fits Indian applicants who want a US degree with a Southern OPT pathway at total tuition around USD 28,000 per year (INR 26.5 lakh) and median starting salaries near USD 65,000 (INR 61.4 lakh). The strongest Indian-specific advantage is the STEM-eligible cybersecurity and computer science tracks, which unlock the 36-month F-1 to OPT pathway.

UNG is not the right fit for Indian applicants targeting global consulting or investment banking, where QS-ranked flagship publics carry more brand weight. If that is the goal, consider a research-flagship such as Georgia Institute of Technology instead of a regional public in the same state.

University of North Georgia FAQs

Ques. Does University of North Georgia require GRE for MS programmes?

Ans. UNG has made GRE optional for most MS programmes, including MS Computer Science and MS Cybersecurity, for the 2027 admission cycle. Indian applicants with a strong bachelor’s GPA of 6.5/10 or above and a clear statement of purpose can safely apply without GRE. The MBA programme waives GMAT for applicants meeting minimum work experience or academic thresholds. Always verify current-cycle testing policy on the UNG graduate admissions page before submitting.

Ques. Can UNG international students work part-time on campus?

Ans. Yes. F-1 visa holders at University of North Georgia can work up to 20 hours per week on campus during semesters and 40 hours per week during official breaks. Typical roles include library assistant, graduate teaching assistant, tutoring centre staff and administrative support. On-campus wages range from USD 10 to 15 per hour, providing roughly USD 800 to 1,200 per month (INR 75,600 to 1.13 lakh) toward living expenses. Off-campus work is restricted to CPT or OPT after one academic year.

Ques. How does UNG verify Indian academic transcripts?

Ans. University of North Georgia requires third-party credential evaluation for all Indian transcripts. The two accepted agencies are WES (World Education Services) and ECE (Educational Credential Evaluators). Indian applicants must first obtain attested transcripts and mark-sheets from the issuing university, then submit them directly to WES or ECE for a course-by-course evaluation. The evaluation report is then forwarded electronically to UNG. Plan for 6 to 10 weeks from initiating WES to report delivery.

Ques. What is the UNG application fee for Indian applicants?

Ans. The UNG international application fee is USD 40 for undergraduate and USD 40 to 60 for graduate programmes (INR 3,780 to 5,670), payable online by credit card. Fee waivers are rare for international applicants and typically apply only in narrow cases such as US embassy EducationUSA advising centre nominees. The application fee is separate from the mandatory SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (INR 33,075), which is paid after receiving the I-20 form.

Ques. Are education loans available in India for UNG?

Ans. Yes. Indian public-sector banks including SBI, Bank of Baroda and Canara Bank offer education loans for University of North Georgia, since UNG is a recognised US public institution. NBFCs such as HDFC Credila, Avanse and Auxilo also finance UNG programmes with loan sizes up to INR 50 lakh without collateral for STEM PG tracks. Applicants should present the I-20 form, admission letter and estimated total cost breakdown to secure approval.

Ques. Can Indian students bring dependents to UNG?

Ans. Yes. F-1 visa holders at UNG can bring a spouse and unmarried children under 21 on the F-2 dependent visa. The primary applicant must add USD 6,000 per dependent per year to their financial affidavit (INR 5.67 lakh) to secure the I-20 for family members. F-2 spouses cannot work in the US, and F-2 children can attend K-12 school. The dependent visa application is processed at the same US consulate in India as the F-1.

Ques. Does University of North Georgia offer conditional admission?

Ans. UNG offers conditional admission to Indian applicants who meet academic requirements but fall short on English proficiency. Conditional admits are placed into the Intensive English Program (IEP) at the Gainesville campus, and progress to full degree enrolment on completing the required level. This route benefits applicants with a strong bachelor’s degree but limited TOEFL preparation time. The IEP typically adds one to two semesters of intensive coursework before degree enrolment begins.

Ques. What English-medium waiver documents does UNG accept?

Ans. UNG waives TOEFL and IELTS for Indian applicants who studied the last three years of secondary school in a fully English-medium institution. Required documents include a signed letter from the school principal on official letterhead confirming the medium of instruction, along with transcripts marked English medium. Applicants from ICSE, CBSE and international-curriculum schools most commonly qualify. State-board applicants may face closer scrutiny and should include supporting course-level medium of instruction certificates.

Overview

I chose this school because it is just a 30-minute drive for me, so it is not too far. The school is inexpensive compared to Georgia State or The University of Georgia. The classroom sizes stay around 20-30 students which at Georgia State it would be 100+ students per class.

Fees

There are science labs fees and little fees, but for the most part, everything is disclosed and the fees are fair.
