Michigan State University fees for Indian students total $45,752 (₹40.26 Lakhs) per year for undergraduate international tuition and roughly $52,000 to $77,000 (₹45.76 to ₹67.76 Lakhs) total for the most-applied Broad and Engineering masters like MS Supply Chain Management, MS Business Analytics, and MS Computer Science. The Fall 2027 intake at MSU is the realistic first entry for anyone applying from India today, since Fall 2026 sits inside the F-1 visa processing window and Spring 2027 rounds are effectively shut for new international applicants.
Your one decision this cycle is whether to target the Fall 2027 UG or MSc priority deadline of 01 November 2026 for scholarship consideration, or the regular February 2027 window without an automatic merit review. The published 2026/27 sticker prices anchor your budget planning, and 2027/28 rates typically post by April 2027 with a 3-5% lift.
Total first-year outlay for an MSc student at Michigan State University lands near ₹66 to ₹75 Lakhs once tuition, on-campus housing, mandatory international health insurance, and the F-1 visa stack are included, while a four-year undergraduate degree crosses ₹2.65 Crore before scholarships. Exchange rate used throughout: 1 USD = ₹88, xe.com (12 August 2026 IST).
Fall 2027 Intake: Planning Window Open, Priority Deadline Ahead
Intake: Fall 2027 (August 2027) is your first realistic entry; Fall 2026 is inside the F-1 visa window and Spring 2027 for new international admits is closed at MSU across most programs. Spring 2028 (January 2028) opens for a limited slate of graduate programs after Fall 2027.
Fee update: Fall 2027 tuition will use the 2027/28 rate card, posted by MSU Controller in April 2027; the 2026/27 anchor is $45,752 (₹40.26 Lakhs) for UG non-resident and $1,932 per credit for graduate international.
When to pay: A $200 (₹17,600) enrollment deposit secures your Fall 2027 UG seat once you accept; graduate offers usually skip a deposit and go direct to registration billing. Payment mechanics, instalments, and forex routing sit in the Tuition Deposit and Payment Options section below.
Scholarships: MSU auto-assesses UG applicants who submit by the 01 November 2026 priority deadline for the International Excellence Award. Inlaks (closes 12 March 2027), JN Tata Endowment (closes 15 March 2027), and KC Mahindra (closes 31 March 2027) all open for the Fall 2027 cohort in early 2027.

Michigan State University charges international students on a non-resident schedule, with undergraduate fees banded by class standing and graduate fees set per credit hour, except for the Broad College professional masters and MBA which carry fixed programme prices. The 2026/27 rate card below is the current published anchor from the MSU Controller’s Office.
Undergraduate international fees at MSU are billed per semester for a 12 to 18 credit load, which is the standard full-time band for F-1 visa compliance. Freshman and Sophomore standing sits at the lower band; Junior and Senior standing at the upper.
| Programme Level | Annual Tuition (USD) | Annual Tuition (INR) | Application Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| UG Freshman/Sophomore (Non-Resident) | $45,752 | ₹40.26 Lakhs | $75 (₹6,600) |
| UG Junior/Senior (Non-Resident) | $46,916 | ₹41.29 Lakhs | N/A (transfer at $75) |
| Engineering Upper Division Differential | +$2,010 | +₹1.77 Lakhs | Included |
| Business (Broad) Upper Division Differential | +$2,700 | +₹2.38 Lakhs | Included |

Most MSc programmes at MSU bill at $1,932 per credit for international students, with 30 credits as the standard degree length. Broad College professional masters and the Full-Time MBA use a fixed cohort price that already includes fees.
| Programme | Total Programme Fee (USD) | Total Programme Fee (INR) | Application Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| MS Computer Science (30 credits) | $57,960 | ₹51.00 Lakhs | $75 (₹6,600) |
| MS Data Science (30 credits) | $52,000 | ₹45.76 Lakhs | $75 (₹6,600) |
| MS Supply Chain Management (Broad, 22 months) | $75,000 | ₹66.00 Lakhs | $100 (₹8,800) |
| MS Business Analytics (Broad, 18 months) | $62,000 | ₹54.56 Lakhs | $100 (₹8,800) |
| MS Marketing Research (Broad, 15 months) | $58,500 | ₹51.48 Lakhs | $100 (₹8,800) |
| MS Electrical and Computer Engineering (30 credits) | $57,960 | ₹51.00 Lakhs | $75 (₹6,600) |
| Full-Time MBA (Broad, 21 months) | $135,400 | ₹1.19 Crore | $100 (₹8,800) |
Source: MSU Office of the Controller, Graduate Tuition 2026/27, ctlr.msu.edu/costs/GraduateTuition.aspx; Broad College professional masters programme pages, broad.msu.edu.
Note: The MS Supply Chain Management fee is a fixed cohort price for the full 22-month degree, not an annual rate. Splitting it as "per year" understates your total obligation, MSU bills the entire $75,000 (₹66.00 Lakhs) across three registration terms on a locked schedule.
MSU international undergraduate tuition has climbed roughly 4-5% per year across the last five rate cards, with 2026/27 sitting at $45,752 (₹40.26 Lakhs) for Freshman/Sophomore non-resident students. The pattern is a consistent single-digit annual lift, not a stepped jump, which lets you forecast your Fall 2027 rate within a narrow band.
| Academic Year | UG Non-Resident (USD) | UG Non-Resident (INR) | YoY % |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2022/23 | $41,958 | ₹36.92 Lakhs | Baseline |
| 2023/24 | $43,300 | ₹38.10 Lakhs | +3.2% |
| 2024/25 | $44,388 | ₹39.06 Lakhs | +2.5% |
| 2025/26 | $45,140 | ₹39.72 Lakhs | +1.7% |
| 2026/27 | $45,752 | ₹40.26 Lakhs | +1.4% |
Source: MSU Office of the Controller, historical tuition archive, ctlr.msu.edu/costs/History.aspx.
Key Insight: Fall 2027 tuition will use the 2027/28 rate card, and at the recent 2-3% annual lift you should budget roughly $47,000 (₹41.36 Lakhs) per undergraduate year rather than the current $45,752 anchor. Locking your loan sanction against the higher figure now avoids a shortfall when MSU posts the new card in April 2027.
The trend also matters for masters students: the graduate per-credit rate has moved in lockstep with the undergraduate lift, so a 30-credit MS budgeted today at $57,960 (₹51.00 Lakhs) is more prudently planned at $59,700 (₹52.54 Lakhs) for a Fall 2027 start.
Currency Tip: Your first Fall 2027 tuition instalment falls due at registration in August 2027, roughly twelve months out. Book a forward-forex contract now against the Fall 2027 registration date so a rupee slide from ₹88 to ₹92 per USD does not silently add ₹1.8 Lakhs to your first semester bill.
Living costs in East Lansing run approximately $1,150 to $1,400 (₹1.01 to ₹1.23 Lakhs) per month, which is materially below Ann Arbor, Chicago, and both coasts. On-campus room and board for a full undergraduate academic year is $12,180 (₹10.72 Lakhs) per the MSU Cost of Attendance sheet.
| Expense | Monthly (USD) | Monthly (INR) | Annual (INR) | Notes for Indian Students |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rent (off-campus shared) | $550 to $800 | ₹48,400 to ₹70,400 | ₹5.80 to ₹8.45 Lakhs | Cedar Village, Chandler Crossings, and University Village are the standard Indian-student clusters |
| Room and Board (on-campus, 9 months) | $1,353 | ₹1.19 Lakhs | ₹10.72 Lakhs | Required for Freshmen; includes meal plan |
| Groceries and Meals Out | $350 | ₹30,800 | ₹3.70 Lakhs | Patel Brothers in Okemos stocks full Indian grocery |
| Utilities and Internet | $140 | ₹12,320 | ₹1.48 Lakhs | Winter heating pushes January and February higher |
| Personal and Miscellaneous | $200 | ₹17,600 | ₹2.11 Lakhs | Toiletries, laundry, phone plan |
| Transport (CATA bus + occasional) | $80 | ₹7,040 | ₹84,480 | CATA bus is free with your MSU student ID |
| Winter Clothing (one-time Year 1) | $400 setup | ₹35,200 setup | Included Y1 only | Down jacket, boots, thermals, mandatory for Michigan winters |
Source: MSU Office of Financial Aid, Cost of Attendance 2026/27, finaid.msu.edu/costs.asp; East Lansing rental data from Numbeo, numbeo.com/cost-of-living/in/East-Lansing.
Note: The MSU Cost of Attendance figure of $12,180 (₹10.72 Lakhs) reflects a nine-month academic year, not twelve. Masters students on-campus for the full year should budget an additional summer housing block of roughly $3,500 (₹3.08 Lakhs) unless staying with the Broad summer internship cohort.
East Lansing sits inside the Lansing metropolitan area but is a distinctly student-first town, which keeps rental rates and grocery basket costs closer to a Big Ten average than a coastal figure. That gap alone shaves roughly ₹4 to ₹6 Lakhs off your annual living bill versus a comparable programme at NYU, UCLA, or Northeastern Boston.
Your total first-year outlay at Michigan State University lands at roughly ₹66 to ₹75 Lakhs for a masters student and ₹65 to ₹70 Lakhs per undergraduate year once tuition, living, mandatory international health insurance, and the F-1 visa stack are combined.
| Scenario | Tuition | Living (12 months for PG, 9 months for UG) | Mandatory Fees | Total Year 1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UG Freshman, on-campus | $45,752 (₹40.26 Lakhs) | $12,180 (₹10.72 Lakhs) | $4,455 (₹3.92 Lakhs) | $62,387 (₹54.90 Lakhs) |
| UG Freshman, off-campus year 2+ | $45,752 (₹40.26 Lakhs) | $14,400 (₹12.67 Lakhs) | $4,455 (₹3.92 Lakhs) | $64,607 (₹56.85 Lakhs) |

A full four-year undergraduate degree crosses ₹2.65 Crore before any scholarship, and a two-year Full-Time MBA at Broad crosses ₹1.55 Crore. Financed at a 10-year, 10.5% education loan, a ₹1.5 Crore borrowing translates to an EMI of roughly ₹2.02 Lakhs per month; a ₹50 Lakh borrowing for a shorter MS lands near ₹67,000 per month.
Key Insight: The controllable saving lever for your Fall 2027 offer is submitting the UG application by 01 November 2026 for the International Excellence Award assessment. A $10,000 (₹8.80 Lakhs) per-year award over four years drops your total borrowing by ₹35.20 Lakhs, which compresses the EMI by roughly ₹47,000 per month across the full 10-year loan term.
MSU offers merit-based awards to international undergraduates that are auto-assessed at admission, and graduate applicants can compete for Graduate Assistantships that combine a tuition waiver with a monthly stipend. External Indian scholarships from Inlaks, JN Tata Endowment, KC Mahindra, and Aga Khan stack on top of any MSU award.
| MSU Scholarship | Level | Value per Year | Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| International Excellence Award | UG | $8,000 to $16,000 (₹7.04 to ₹14.08 Lakhs) | Auto-assessed, no separate form, apply by 01 Nov 2026 priority deadline |
| Global Spartan Excellence Scholarship | UG | $12,000 (₹10.56 Lakhs) | Auto-assessed for high-achieving international applicants |
| Alumni Distinguished Scholarship | UG | Full tuition | Competitive, requires December 2026 on-campus interview round |
| Graduate Assistantship (GA/RA/TA) | PG/PhD | Tuition waiver + ~$22,000 (₹19.36 Lakhs) stipend | Department-nominated, apply directly to programme by Dec 2026 to Jan 2027 |
| Broad MBA Fellowships | MBA | $10,000 to $40,000 (₹8.80 to ₹35.20 Lakhs) | Merit-based, auto-considered on MBA application |

The Fall 2027 scholarship window is fully open for Indian applicants, with the four major India-side awards accepting applications between January and March 2027.
| External Indian Scholarship | Value | Deadline (Fall 2027) | Eligibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation | Up to $100,000 (₹88.00 Lakhs) | 12 March 2027 | Indian citizen, under 30, admitted to a top overseas university |
| JN Tata Endowment | ₹1 to ₹10 Lakhs loan scholarship + gift award | 15 March 2027 | Indian graduate applying for PG abroad |
| KC Mahindra Scholarships | ₹8 Lakhs (Top 3 candidates) | 31 March 2027 | Indian PG applicant with admission letter |
| Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation | Interest-free loan up to ₹20 Lakhs | 28 February 2027 | Indian PG applicant under 30 |
| Aga Khan Foundation ISP | 50% loan + 50% grant of programme cost | 31 March 2027 | Financial need, high academic potential |
Tip for Indian Students: The single highest-value stack for a Fall 2027 masters seat is Inlaks + JN Tata + a Broad or Graduate Assistantship. Submit the MSU application by 01 November 2026 to lock the earliest Graduate Assistantship consideration, then apply to Inlaks in January 2027 the day the portal opens; late submissions in early March get filtered by portal load, not merit.
Undergraduate admits to MSU pay a $200 (₹17,600) non-refundable enrollment deposit that credits against the first tuition bill and secures your seat plus your I-20 issuance, the document you need to book the F-1 visa slot. Graduate admits at MSU are not typically asked for a separate deposit and go straight to registration billing.
Methods of payment accepted by MSU:
Steps to pay the tuition fee for international students at Michigan State University:
Source: MSU Office of the Controller, Payment Options page, ctlr.msu.edu/coStudent/PaymentOptions.aspx; MSU Instalment Payment Plan, ctlr.msu.edu/coStudent/PaymentPlan.aspx.
Tip for Indian Students: Initiate any international wire to MSU at least 7 to 10 working days before the Fall 2027 tuition due date. Bank holidays in India, RBI LRS documentation, and Flywire’s own 2-3 day settlement window compound; a late deposit into the Student Account triggers a $150 (₹13,200) late fee and, more painfully, a registration hold that blocks class access.
The visible tuition sticker misses roughly ₹4 to ₹6 Lakhs of first-year outlay that every Indian student at MSU ends up paying. The Fall 2027 intake makes the F-1 SEVIS fee and the winter clothing spend the most time-sensitive of these.
Budget approximately ₹5 to ₹6.5 Lakhs for first-year hidden costs at MSU, on top of the published tuition and living figures.
Note: The single hidden cost Indian families forget is the International Student Health Insurance premium of $3,900 (₹3.43 Lakhs), which MSU auto-enrols and bills to your Student Account each semester. Waiver requests are rejected unless you carry a US-issued equivalent plan, so budget the full amount, do not assume a home country policy will substitute.
The most urgent Fall 2027 saving lever is the 01 November 2026 priority deadline for the International Excellence Award, since missing it locks you out of automatic merit consideration for the full four-year UG stay. Two more high-value levers apply once you enrol.
Tip for Indian Students: The single highest-value saving lever for the Fall 2027 cycle is combining the $10,000 (₹8.80 Lakhs) Global Spartan Excellence Scholarship with a Graduate Assistantship tuition waiver, which together drop a ₹51 Lakh MS Computer Science bill to under ₹20 Lakhs across the two-year programme. Both are decided in December 2026 to February 2027, so the 01 November 2026 priority submission is the gate.
A two-year MS at Michigan State University runs roughly ₹50 to ₹75 Lakhs all-in and pays back inside 4 to 6 years at typical Broad and Engineering graduate salaries, making it a defensibly priced Big Ten degree for STEM-track Indian applicants. The Full-Time MBA at $135,400 (₹1.19 Crore) programme fee is a steeper commitment but the Broad MBA median starting compensation of roughly $130,000 (₹1.14 Crore) closes the loan inside 3-4 years on a disciplined budget.
The ranking anchor is credible: MSU sits at QS World 182 (2027), THE World =105 (2026), and US News Best Global 133 (2025-2026). Broad Supply Chain Management is ranked Top 5 globally by Gartner and QS. On the CD Study Abroad Ranking 2026, MSU ranks 90th globally and 37th in the USA, with Social Studies at USA rank 19.
Post-study work in the USA under F-1 OPT is currently 12 months, extended by 24 months for STEM-designated masters, giving Broad Analytics, MS Computer Science, and MS Data Science graduates up to 36 months of US work eligibility before requiring an H-1B sponsor. This policy is the rule in force as of 12 August 2026 (IST); no dated change modifies it for the Fall 2027 intake.
On EMI-versus-salary, a ₹50 Lakh education loan at 10.5% over 10 years lands at roughly ₹67,000 per month EMI. An MSU MS Supply Chain graduate at a median $85,000 (₹74.80 Lakhs) starting salary earns roughly ₹6.20 Lakhs per month gross, so the EMI absorbs under 11% of pre-tax income, well inside a comfortable ratio.
Key Insight: The Fall 2027 intake at MSU has a payback horizon of roughly 4 to 5 years for STEM masters graduates who use the full 36-month OPT window at a typical Big Ten starting salary. Net of a Graduate Assistantship or Broad Fellowship, that horizon compresses to 2 to 3 years, which is the decision anchor rather than the sticker price alone.
Your total Fall 2027 budget for a Michigan State University masters lands at ₹66 to ₹75 Lakhs all-in, dropping to ₹45 to ₹55 Lakhs after a Global Spartan Excellence Scholarship or Broad Fellowship stack. A ₹50 Lakh education loan at 10.5% over 10 years costs roughly ₹67,000 per month, well inside a comfortable post-OPT salary ratio. The one action to take before 01 November 2026 is submitting a complete undergraduate or graduate application so MSU auto-assesses you for the International Excellence Award and the Graduate Assistantship pool in the same cycle.
Ques. What is the total tuition cost of studying at Michigan State University for Indian students?
Ans. Undergraduate international tuition at Michigan State University is $45,752 (₹40.26 Lakhs) per year for the 2026/27 rate; a four-year degree crosses $183,000 (₹1.61 Crore) before living costs. Popular masters programmes run $52,000 to $75,000 (₹45.76 to ₹66.00 Lakhs) total, and the Broad Full-Time MBA is $135,400 (₹1.19 Crore) for the 21-month programme.
Ques. What is the enrollment deposit at Michigan State University and is it refundable?
Ans. MSU charges a $200 (₹17,600) non-refundable enrollment deposit for undergraduate international admits, which credits against your first tuition bill and triggers I-20 issuance for the F-1 visa. Graduate admits are usually not asked for a separate deposit and go straight to registration billing.
Ques. Which scholarships can Indian students apply for at Michigan State University?
Ans. Undergraduate international applicants are auto-assessed for the International Excellence Award of $8,000 to $16,000 (₹7.04 to ₹14.08 Lakhs) and the Global Spartan Excellence Scholarship of $12,000 (₹10.56 Lakhs) if they submit by 01 November 2026. Graduate applicants can win a Graduate Assistantship covering tuition plus a $22,000 (₹19.36 Lakhs) stipend, and Broad MBA candidates are auto-considered for fellowships up to $40,000 (₹35.20 Lakhs).
Ques. How much is the cost of living for Indian students in East Lansing?
Ans. Living costs in East Lansing run $1,150 to $1,400 (₹1.01 to ₹1.23 Lakhs) per month for a shared off-campus apartment plus groceries, utilities, and transport. On-campus room and board through MSU is $12,180 (₹10.72 Lakhs) for a nine-month academic year and is required for Freshmen.
Ques. What is the F-1 visa cost stack for a Michigan State University offer?
Ans. The F-1 stack is $350 (₹30,800) SEVIS I-901 fee plus $185 (₹16,280) MRV visa application fee, totalling $535 (₹47,080) per applicant. Add mandatory international student health insurance of $3,900 (₹3.43 Lakhs) per year, which MSU auto-enrols and bills to your Student Account.
Ques. Can I pay Michigan State University tuition in instalments?
Ans. Yes, MSU offers an Instalment Payment Plan that splits each semester bill into four monthly payments for a $60 (₹5,280) plan fee. Registration for the plan opens in early July 2027 for the Fall 2027 semester through the MSU Student Account portal.
Ques. How does the Fall 2027 tuition compare to the current 2026/27 rate?
Ans. MSU has lifted undergraduate international tuition by roughly 2 to 3% per year across the last four rate cards, so the Fall 2027 (2027/28) rate is likely to land near $47,000 (₹41.36 Lakhs) per year for the Freshman/Sophomore band. The exact 2027/28 figure is posted by the MSU Controller’s Office in April 2027.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time at Michigan State University to offset fees?
Ans. F-1 visa rules permit 20 hours per week of on-campus work during term and 40 hours per week during breaks. MSU pays roughly $14 (₹1,232) per hour for library, dining, and OISS jobs, yielding about $10,000 (₹8.80 Lakhs) per year that can offset living costs, though not tuition.
Ques. Is the Broad Full-Time MBA at Michigan State University worth the ₹1.19 Crore programme fee?
Ans. The Broad Full-Time MBA has a median graduate starting compensation of roughly $130,000 (₹1.14 Crore), which pays back the programme fee inside 3-4 years on a disciplined budget. STEM-designated MBA tracks at Broad also qualify for the 36-month OPT window, extending your US work runway before an H-1B is required.
Ques. What is the post-study work option for Indian students at Michigan State University?
Ans. F-1 graduates receive 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT), extended by 24 months for STEM-designated degrees, for a total of 36 months of US work eligibility before requiring H-1B sponsorship. MS Computer Science, MS Data Science, MS Business Analytics, and MS Supply Chain Management at MSU are all STEM-designated as of 12 August 2026 (IST).

They basically just wanted to check the fluency and how well you can speak in English I knew the prof I wanted to work with and the field in what I was interested in working It’s been great. There are so many resources available for helping you in any regards. People are very nice and helpful. College campus is very much safe and feels like home.

I'm not sure if I'm the best person to answer this question because I haven't really gotten complete college experience from MSU. That's because I'm enrolled with the 12 month program which is very fast-paced and barely leaves us time to enjoy and take part in other stuff on campus. But if I am to comment on my program and the experience that I am right now having it is very hectic and mentally challenging. The weather in Michigan also makes it physically challenging in the first four months of the program. Personally I'm loving this because I wanted to challenge myself when I came out of India and I'm getting what I wanted.

My overall college experience has been really good till now. I have had a chance to interact with professors who are world famous in their fields. I have had a chance with amazing people who are good at heart and helpful. Overall, I love Michigan State University and would recommend it to everyone.
The university has a variety of research tools available, which interested me. It also has really good global support that gives you the opportunity to network around the world.
Michigan State University is among the top 3 vet schools of the world and I am a vet med major so it is a privilege for me to be a part of this institute

I knew that I wanted to go to a college in-state and an MSU was the leading college in business that really caught my eye. It was the perfect distance away from my house which was about an hour and that was great because I could easily get home if I needed to but I wasn't so close that my parents could come up any day or that I felt that I'd be going home too often. On top of that when I visited the campus it was amazing I really loved how everything was so tied in together and so large at the same time. I really felt at home and I really solidified that when I got there. I can go running or for a walk anywhere on campus and it feels like I?m just outside enjoying nature there?s a bunch of trees alongside a bunch of beautiful buildings.
