| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Early Action deadline (First-year) | November 1, 2026 | Priority for scholarship review; decision by January 15, 2027 |

Graduate deadlines vary by department: MS Computer Science, MS Business Analytics and the Full-Time MBA close earlier than Regular Decision, and applicants must verify at the specific department page or MSU Graduate School. Credential verification through WES or ECE should start eight to ten weeks before the deadline.
Planning note: Applying by the November 1, 2026 Early Action deadline unlocks the full non-resident scholarship stack at MSU, including the President’s, Provost’s and Dean’s scholarships automatically considered for international admits.

Michigan State University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Michigan State University admission requirements for Indian applicants combine an academic threshold, an English test score and credential verification, with course-specific extras for STEM and business tracks.
Postgraduate requirements:
- Academic: Recognised bachelor’s degree with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended); competitive programmes at Broad and Engineering prefer 60%+
- English test minimums: TOEFL iBT 80 with no subscore below 19 (or 22 for writing) on the legacy 0-120 scale; IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0; PTE Academic 53 with reading/listening/speaking above 51 and writing above 59; Duolingo 110 (or 95 to 105 provisional); MELAB 83 also accepted
- Credential verification: WES or ECE evaluation for the bachelor’s transcript, initiated eight to ten weeks before deadline
- Standardised tests: GRE waived for many Engineering and Data Science tracks; GMAT 640+ recommended for Full-Time MBA
Undergraduate requirements:
- Academic: Class 12 with 75% to 85% (recommended) from CBSE, ICSE or a recognised state board
- English test minimums: TOEFL iBT 79 with no subscore below 17; IELTS 6.5; PTE Academic 46
- Standardised tests: SAT and ACT are optional for international first-year applicants
Key insight: IELTS scores are accepted alongside the newer TOEFL 4.5-band format introduced from January 21, 2026 at MSU. Indian applicants who took the legacy TOEFL iBT before that date can submit 0-120 scale scores with no conversion.
Michigan State University Acceptance Rate 2027
Michigan State University’s undergraduate acceptance rate sits at 88% (estimated) across the general applicant pool, placing MSU among the more accessible Big Ten public research universities for Indian first-year applicants. The rate is a third-party derived estimate rather than an officially published MSU figure.
| Intake Year | Acceptance Rate | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| Fall 2025 | 88% | Stable |
| Fall 2024 | 88% | Stable |
| Fall 2023 | 83% | Upward |
Programme-level admission is tighter than the university-wide rate. Eli Broad College of Business, College of Engineering and pre-Nursing tracks apply stronger academic filters, and MS Computer Science and MS Business Analytics admit only a fraction of qualified applicants each cycle.
Reality check: A high headline acceptance rate does not mean Michigan State University master’s admits are easy. Broad College and Engineering programme committees screen for research fit, relevant coursework and GRE or GMAT context beyond the base bachelor’s threshold.

Michigan State University vs Peer Universities
Peer comparison groups MSU against other Big Ten public research universities and one Indian benchmark for reference. Comparison is drawn on QS 2027, Collegedunia Study Abroad rank and annual PG fee.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | CD Study Abroad 2026 | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD / INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Michigan State University | #182 | #90 Global | USD 29,000 / INR 27.75 lakh | Broad College supply chain leadership plus AAU credibility |

| Ohio State University | #=147 | #83 | USD 33,000 / INR 31.57 lakh | Larger Big Ten cohort and Columbus job market |
| IIT Bombay (India benchmark) | #134 | NA | USD 3,500 / INR 3.35 lakh | Reference point for Indian cost baseline |
MSU stands out on Broad College supply chain strength and a Fall tuition at the lower end of the Big Ten range. Indian applicants targeting pure Computer Science prestige will find Illinois and Purdue rank higher, but at higher fees.
Michigan State University fits Indian applicants targeting STEM-designated master’s in Computer Science, Supply Chain and Business Analytics, where the Broad College supply chain ecosystem and Big Ten research base carry weight with US employers. With a two-year MS Computer Science investment of INR 55.46 lakh against Broad-side median salaries around USD 100,000, the F-1 visa pathway to STEM OPT anchors the ROI case.
MSU is not the right fit for applicants chasing top-30 QS rankings or a coastal metro location, since East Lansing is a Midwest college town rather than a job-hub city. Applicants prioritising ranking prestige should also weigh Purdue University’s engineering-heavy Big Ten alternative or the Illinois computing pathway.

- I had the best experience in my University. Our campus is nearly 5000 acres. We have a Ice Skating Arena, Really Big sports Grounds. 3 Fitness Centers along with badminton, Squash, Basketball courts, Yoga rooms , Gyms and Swimming Pools. Its totally free for students to Use. They also have Dance classes for students like Salsa, Zumba etc. Along with guided workout sessions. We have nearly 3 big Libraries along with study areas in every campus.
- Our university has Indian clubs who host parties like winter ball, Spring fest, Movie nights, Garba Nights, Ganesh Chathurthi and Diwali and New year events as well. There is an inside saying that we can get free food everyday in our campus if we follow all the events hosted in our campus everyday, You always have something or other happening.

Overview
Yes I had to submit SoP, three LoRs and CV. After that one round of interview with 3-4 professors Yes I did have one round of interview before I got an admit. They basically just wanted to check the fluency and how well you can speak in English I knew the prof I wanted to work with and the field in what I was interested in working It’s been great. There are so many resources available for helping you in any regards. People are very nice and helpful. College campus is very much safe and feels like home.
Campus Life
It’s amazing. There are lots of clubs from sports to art to just meet and greet. There are so many platforms to socialize and meet new people .

- There are only a handful of universities that offer programs starting in spring which is what I was looking for. With that experience and criteria, I was able to shortlist 3 universities – University of Illinois Chicago, University of Connecticut and Michigan State University. After this it was another easy choice because MSU offered a 12-month program while the other programs lasted for at least 18 months. Also given the fact that Michigan has way smaller number of Indians than the other states it gave me an opportunity to get better exposure while interacting with people from other countries. I really knew what I had to do, and I chose MSU.
- The best part about MSU is that there is much more diversity than other schools. Especially if you are an Indian looking for exposure, this is a good place to be. Over the last couple of years, the influx of grad students has grown exponentially that almost all the big states are flooded with Indians. MSU offers a much diverse population among students and staff, which is great to gain exposure and push your limits.

- "If I had to mention one thing, it's the weather. Not to blame the university for this, but it gets extremely cold in winters and the weather persists like that for around 5 months. Another thing that I would improve about MSU is campus security. I encountered a shooting event in the very second month. That event got me terrified for a week!"

I'm not sure if I'm the best person to answer this question because I haven't really gotten complete college experience from MSU. That's because I'm enrolled with the 12 month program which is very fast-paced and barely leaves us time to enjoy and take part in other stuff on campus. But if I am to comment on my program and the experience that I am right now having it is very hectic and mentally challenging. The weather in Michigan also makes it physically challenging in the first four months of the program. Personally I'm loving this because I wanted to challenge myself when I came out of India and I'm getting what I wanted.

MSU is one of the biggest land grant universities in the US meaning it is a very big university spread across the town of East Lansing. The infrastructure is top class with great Wi-Fi connectivity over the campus and dining halls for the students. The library resources and the academic buildings are equipped with latest technology that makes teaching and learning processes better. I always prefer to work in the academic buildings by reserving a room for myself rather than staying home because it at least motivates me to work over the day. On the other hand I can't really comment on the extracurricular life and the college life because like I mentioned it's a 12 month program and I barely have time for completing my academic work however I do try to squeeze in small events like student tie dye events coffee hours and meetups. The university also has a very big recreational center with facilities of basketball badminton swimming and other sports which are very well utilized by the students and the faculty of the university.

I knew that I wanted to go to a college in-state and an MSU was the leading college in business that really caught my eye. It was the perfect distance away from my house which was about an hour and that was great because I could easily get home if I needed to but I wasn't so close that my parents could come up any day or that I felt that I'd be going home too often. On top of that when I visited the campus it was amazing I really loved how everything was so tied in together and so large at the same time. I really felt at home and I really solidified that when I got there. I can go running or for a walk anywhere on campus and it feels like I?m just outside enjoying nature there?s a bunch of trees alongside a bunch of beautiful buildings.

I am not an international student so I'm not sure. I do believe there are some scholarships for them though. However, my tuition was about 14k/year and I got no aid, but I did not take out any loans last year or this year for the fall semester. I did get a Livingston county Spartans scholarship, but it is a group of alums, not the school.
