Hofstra University Scholarships for UG Students

Hofstra University Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students
Hofstra graduate scholarships are competitive and awarded by program faculty at the time of admission. The vast majority of Master’s programs run their own endowed award pools, and admitted applicants are reviewed automatically. Graduate Assistantships deliver the deepest savings and are available across arts, sciences, business and education departments.
| Scholarship | Amount | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hofstra Graduate Program Scholarships | Partial tuition (varies by program) | Admitted Master’s students; faculty-nominated on academic merit | Program admission deadline (tentative February 1, 2027 for Fall 2027) |
| Hofstra Graduate Assistantship | Full tuition remission up to 12 credits per semester, plus stipend from USD 2,000 (INR 1.89 Lakhs) annually | Admitted Master’s or doctoral candidates; department vacancy required | Rolling; tentative decisions six to eight weeks before each semester start |
| INTO Graduate Regional Scholarship | USD 3,000 to 12,000 (INR 2.84 to 11.34 Lakhs) per year | International graduate pathway and integrated Master’s students | Rolling; first-come-first-served basis |
| Direct MS in Computer Science Award | USD 15,000 (INR 14.18 Lakhs) total, paid as USD 5,000 (INR 4.73 Lakhs) per semester | MS Computer Science admits in the three-semester direct track | Rolling; disbursed on course registration |
Graduate Assistantships require a separate application once admitted. Positions open across the Writing Center, Residential Life, library services, lab research and departmental teaching. The best time to email department chairs is February for Fall placements and September for Spring placements.
Reddit Insight: Indian MS admits often lock their Hofstra assistantships only after Fall arrival, as department secretaries assign unfilled TA slots once Fall registration closes in September.

India-Specific Scholarships at Hofstra University
Hofstra does not operate a named India-only scholarship. Indian applicants qualify for the full international merit pool plus any Hempstead campus award open to international students. The practical India-funding route pairs a Hofstra merit award with an Indian government or trust scholarship.

| Dean’s Scholars for Indian State Board or CBSE Toppers | USD 10,000 to 29,000 (INR 9.45 to 27.41 Lakhs) per year | Class XII percentage above 85 with strong co-curricular record | January 15, 2027 (Regular Decision) |

- Bachelor’s semester-wise transcripts and consolidated degree (for PG)
- SAT, ACT, GRE or GMAT scorecard (where submitted)
- TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or Duolingo scorecard
- Statement of Purpose plus two Letters of Recommendation
Reddit Insight: Indian admits report Hofstra Presidential waivers auto-renew for four years as long as the cumulative GPA stays above 3.0 at Hofstra, so no re-application is needed each year.
Hofstra University PhD Scholarships
Hofstra runs doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology, Applied Organizational Psychology and School-Community Psychology, plus the Au.D. in Audiology. PhD funding is channelled through Graduate Assistantships and departmental fellowships rather than through a central scholarship pool. The Clinical Psychology PhD typically funds all admitted cohorts.
| Scholarship | Amount | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clinical Psychology PhD Full Funding Package | Full tuition remission plus annual stipend (program-set) | Admitted Clinical Psychology PhD students; cohort size capped | December 1, 2026 (application deadline) |
| Applied Organizational Psychology PhD Assistantship | Full tuition remission for 16 credits plus stipend from USD 2,000 (INR 1.89 Lakhs) | Admitted I-O Psychology doctoral students | Tentative January 15, 2027 |
| School-Community Psychology PhD Graduate Assistantship | Full tuition remission plus assistantship stipend | Admitted PhD students in the School-Community track | Tentative February 1, 2027 |
| Hofstra Research Fellowships | Varies by department and grant source | Doctoral candidates with active research projects | Program-specific; tentative Spring 2027 cycle |
Indian PhD applicants should contact the program coordinator by October 2026 to flag their interest in assistantships before the admission committee meets. Externally funded PhD candidates, such as Fulbright-Nehru recipients, are often prioritized because the department preserves its internal funding for other cohort members.
External Government Scholarships for Hofstra University Applicants
External scholarships from the Indian government, bilateral foundations and US-side non-profits meaningfully reduce the Hofstra cost of attendance. Indian applicants typically stack one external award with a Hofstra merit scholarship. The Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship is the single largest source of fully funded support for Indian PG candidates.
| Scholarship | Amount | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship (USIEF) | Full tuition, living stipend, round-trip airfare, J-1 visa, health cover (approx INR 66.15 Lakhs value) | Indian citizen; three years full-time work experience; eligible fields including Public Health, Journalism, Urban Planning, Economics | July 1, 2026 for 2027-28 cycle |
| JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship | Interest-free loan up to INR 10 Lakhs plus gift stipend INR 1 to 2 Lakhs | Indian citizen with admission to any accredited overseas PG programme | Tentative January 31, 2027 (annual cycle) |
| KC Mahindra Scholarship for Postgraduate Studies Abroad | Interest-free loan up to INR 10 Lakhs plus select gift scholarships of INR 8 Lakhs | Indian citizen under 30; PG admit at overseas university | Tentative March 31, 2027 (annual cycle) |
| Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation Scholarship | Interest-free loan up to INR 20 Lakhs | Indian citizen; PG study at approved universities worldwide | Tentative April 30, 2027 |
| AAUW International Fellowship | USD 20,000 to 50,000 (INR 18.9 to 47.25 Lakhs) | Non-US women pursuing full-time graduate study in the US | November 15, 2026 (annual cycle) |
| P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship | Up to USD 12,500 (INR 11.81 Lakhs) per year | International women graduate students at accredited US institutions | Tentative December 15, 2026 |
Hofstra sits on the Fulbright-Nehru approved host list, so a J-1 placement at Hempstead is accepted without a second review. JN Tata and KC Mahindra decisions arrive between May and June, well before Hofstra’s August orientation, letting Indian admits plan loan drawdowns on time.

Hofstra University Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What is the maximum scholarship stack an Indian applicant can get at Hofstra University?
Ans. Indian UG admits can stack the Presidential Scholars award of USD 35,000 (INR 33.08 Lakhs) with the Hofstra University Grant of USD 5,000 (INR 4.73 Lakhs), reaching USD 40,000 (INR 37.8 Lakhs) per year. For graduate study, a full Graduate Assistantship delivers complete tuition remission plus a stipend starting at USD 2,000 (INR 1.89 Lakhs). Combining a Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship with the Assistantship produces the single largest aid package for an Indian Master’s candidate.
Ques. When should Indian students apply to maximize Hofstra scholarship consideration?
Ans. Apply by the Early Action 1 deadline of November 15, 2026, for Fall 2027 UG admission. This window captures the largest Presidential and Provost awards before the pool is drawn down. Graduate applicants should submit by their program’s priority date, typically February 1, 2027, so faculty can review for program scholarships before the assistantship cycle opens in April.
Ques. Do Indian applicants need a separate scholarship application at Hofstra University?
Ans. No separate form is required for named merit scholarships. All UG and most Master’s awards are decided from the admission file itself. The Graduate Assistantship is the main exception, which needs a short departmental application and an interview with the hiring professor after admission is confirmed.
Ques. What is the minimum GPA and test score needed for a Hofstra merit scholarship?
Ans. The Dean’s Scholars entry threshold is a weighted high school GPA of 2.7 with an optional SAT of 1030. The Presidential tier starts at weighted GPA 3.9 and SAT 1300. Indian Class XII equivalents are mapped by Hofstra admissions during file review, with 85 percent and above generally reaching the Dean’s or Provost tier.
Ques. Does Hofstra University offer need-based financial aid to Indian students?
Ans. Hofstra does not offer need-based financial aid or full-ride scholarships to international students. All international funding at Hofstra is merit-based or employment-linked through assistantships. Indian students who need living-cost support typically stack a Hofstra merit award with external loans from JN Tata or KC Mahindra plus an F-1 on-campus job after Fall arrival.
Ques. Can a Hofstra graduate assistantship cover living costs in Hempstead?
Ans. A graduate assistantship covers tuition in full but the stipend starts at USD 2,000 (INR 1.89 Lakhs) annually, which does not cover Hempstead’s living cost of about USD 18,000 (INR 17.01 Lakhs). Indian admits typically supplement with 20 hours a week of on-campus F-1 work. Research-heavy assistantships in Psychology or Engineering carry larger stipends negotiated at the department level.

- They have a career center where you can go for guidance, mock interviews etc. They share relevant job/internship opportunities with you as well.
- There is a career fair every semester where companies come to the campus and you can know about the current openings plus network with the company employees.
- The most helpful thing is that in my final semester, I’ll get an option for co-op program, which is basically an internship which the university will find for me and if the student performs well, it can be converted to full time job offer as well.
Dislikes
- The campus life is pretty dull, there isn't much interaction between seniors and juniors.
- The campus does not allow the storage of electric scooters/cycles/skateboards, so either you have to buy a car or walk across the campus.
- Professors are super chill ie. they don't care if you are studying or not even coming to the classes. Although they will help you if you make an effort to reach them.
Scholarship
- I did not achieve a scholarship. Students who have a very good cgpa in undergraduation have a high chance of getting a scholarship.
- I only heard of one friend who got scholarship at admission time.
- It is very rare to get a scholarship after getting admitted as they say that they got less funding this year. But there is a scholarship page where the university has named various scholarships, so I encourage everyone to ask for them.
- In my first semester I opted for on-campus hostel, which is the graduate residence hall, and after that I moved out and took a room on a rented house.
- I found my accommodation through a local real estate listing called nassaucountyoffcampus.com
The monthly rent on my current house is $1150 per month. - I get a room with double bed and plenty of space, sofa, study table, center table, cloth stand; I have a common kitchen and toilet. The rent also includes utilities like electricity, wifi, water and heating.
- I faced no challenges in securing accommodation because I always search in advance.
- My recommendation would be to not opt on-campus housing as it is very expensive and use the website I mentioned to get a room on rent. You can get a single room for $800 or a double room like mine for $1200.

Scholarship
Yes, I received a scholarship for academics which came in my acceptance letter. You can also ask them to add money to your scholarship.
They had a really good drama department with a BA in Drama which allowed me to double major and also minor in musical theatre. My other major, psychology is also really good at Hofstra and they make sure your schedule fits everything.
