Marshall University runs 15+ scholarship pathways, of which 10 are commonly accessible to Indian applicants at UG, Master’s and PhD levels. Awards range from USD 5,000 to full-ride packages worth over USD 25,000 (INR 4.77 to 23.86 Lakhs) per year. The Society of Yeager Scholars route covers tuition, fees, housing, food and a book stipend for eight semesters.

Most non-resident merit scholarships auto-consider Indian applicants at the point of admission, so no second form is required. Graduate assistantships need a separate faculty match after admission clears. This guide covers UG, Master’s, PhD, India-only pathways and USA-India government routes with verified amounts and cycle dates.

  • Standard UG Tuition and Fees (2025-26, non-resident): USD 20,390 (INR 19.46 Lakhs)
  • With John Marshall Scholarship: Net tuition drops by USD 14,000 (INR 13.36 Lakhs)
  • With Yeager Scholars Full Ride: Tuition, fees, housing, food and stipend covered
  • Next Key Deadline: Tentative December 15, 2026 (Fall 2027 scholarship priority date)

Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 USD = INR 95.45 as of August 2026. Non-resident, in Marshall scholarship rules, means any applicant who is not a West Virginia resident, so it covers every Indian passport holder.

Marshall University Scholarships for UG Students

Marshall University runs a six-tier merit scholarship ladder for incoming freshmen classified as non-resident. Indian applicants are auto-considered at admission if they submit SAT or ACT scores. The top award, John Marshall Scholarship, pays USD 14,000 (INR 13.36 Lakhs) per year for four years.

All merit awards renew for the full four-year Bachelor’s programme. Students must stay full-time, clear 30 credit hours annually and hold a 2.5 GPA in the first year (2.75 GPA thereafter). The Society of Yeager Scholars sits above the merit ladder as the university’s full-ride flagship.

Marshall University Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students

PG funding at Marshall University runs through graduate assistantships (GAs), not fixed merit scholarships. A GA position covers base tuition, a monthly living allowance and health insurance for 10 to 20 hours per week of teaching or research work. Standard PG tuition without an assistantship sits at USD 22,192 (INR 21.18 Lakhs) per year for non-residents.

The Palmquist Lab in the Biology department runs a fully funded Master’s route. It pays USD 21,000 (INR 20.04 Lakhs) per year plus a full tuition waiver. Brad D. Smith Schools of Business also lists rolling GA slots across accounting, finance and marketing on the Marshall University programs page.

Scholarship Coverage Eligibility (Indian Applicants) Application Deadline
Palmquist Lab Research Assistantship (MS Biology) USD 21,000 stipend (INR 20.04 Lakhs) + full tuition waiver + health insurance Admitted MS Biology applicant with ecology or environmental science research fit; faculty interview Rolling; tentative April 30, 2027 for Fall 2027 intake

Reddit Insight: Prospective MS Biology applicants report that emailing Dr. Palmquist and other faculty leads directly, with a one-page research statement, is the standard route to secure the USD 21,000 stipend slot before the formal admission deadline.

India-Specific Scholarships at Marshall University

Marshall University does not run an India-only scholarship line inside its Student Financial Assistance office. Indian applicants qualify for every non-resident merit scholarship listed above without a passport-based cap.

External India-side funders like Inlaks, JN Tata and KC Mahindra can be layered on top of a Marshall admission. The Indian applicant funding stack breaks into three layers:

  • University-side: Non-resident merit scholarships and departmental GA offers
  • Foundation-side: Marshall University Foundation endowed scholarships awarded by department committees
  • India-side: External government and private funds like Fulbright-Nehru, Inlaks, JN Tata, KC Mahindra

The strongest India-side stack for Indian undergraduates is John Marshall Scholarship plus a JN Tata Endowment loan. Together they cover tuition and most of the living cost.

For Master’s applicants, the Palmquist RA or a general GA plus a KC Mahindra grant is the standard combination used by admitted Indian students.

Pathway What It Covers Eligibility (Indian Applicants) Deadline
Non-resident merit scholarships (auto) USD 5,000 to USD 14,000 per year (INR 4.77 to 13.36 Lakhs) Indian passport holders with valid SAT or ACT scores at listed thresholds Aligns with UG admission priority; tentative December 15, 2026
Foundation Endowed Scholarships Partial tuition support from named donor funds Admitted Indian students in listed departments; committee-selected Rolling; department-level nomination
Alumni Legacy Scholarship (Indian alumni families) Partial tuition waiver stacked on merit awards Indian applicant with a parent or grandparent who graduated from Marshall Filed at admission; document proof required

Marshall University PhD Scholarships

PhD funding at Marshall University sits inside individual doctoral programmes, not a central scholarship line. Fully funded PhD packages typically combine a Teaching Assistant or Research Assistant appointment with a tuition waiver and a monthly stipend. Doctoral programmes run in Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, Education, Nursing and Psychology.

Stipends fall in the USD 20,000 to USD 25,000 per year band (INR 19.09 to 23.86 Lakhs), matching public research university norms. The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine PhD tracks in Biomedical Sciences run the most heavily funded pipeline for international applicants. Confirm the funding package at the department level before accepting an offer.

Programme Typical PhD Funding Duration Deadline
Biomedical Sciences PhD (Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine) Full tuition waiver + USD 25,000 stipend (INR 23.86 Lakhs) + health insurance 4 to 5 years, renewed on satisfactory progress Tentative December 1, 2026 for Fall 2027 intake
Education / Curriculum and Instruction PhD GA-based; tuition waiver + monthly stipend 4 to 5 years Rolling; tentative March 15, 2027
Psychology PhD (Clinical / School) TA / RA stipend + full tuition waiver 5 years Tentative December 15, 2026
Departmental research fellowships (across faculties) Case-by-case tuition and stipend awards 1 to 2 years, renewable Rolling; department-level nomination

External Government Scholarships for Marshall University

Indian applicants heading to Marshall University can layer India-based government and foundation awards on top of the university’s own funding. The Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship is the flagship India-USA route and covers tuition, fees, airfare, a living stipend and health cover. KC Mahindra, Inlaks Shivdasani and JN Tata Endowment fill the gap for Master’s and PhD applicants below the Fulbright bar.

These external routes need separate applications through Indian selection panels, filed in parallel with the Marshall admission cycle. The Inlaks award, worth up to USD 100,000 (INR 95.45 Lakhs), is the highest-value India-side scholarship available. The Marshall University overview page cross-references admission timelines that align with these external deadlines.

Scholarship Coverage Eligibility Application Deadline
Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship Full tuition and fees + round-trip airfare + living stipend + health cover (J-1 visa) Indian passport; 3 years work experience; strong Bachelor’s; leadership record Tentative May 15, 2027 for Fall 2028 intake
Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarship Up to USD 100,000 (INR 95.45 Lakhs) covering tuition, living, travel, one-time settling Indian citizen under 30; strong academic record and Bachelor’s from a recognised Indian institution Tentative March 31, 2027
KC Mahindra Scholarships for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad Up to INR 10 Lakhs (interest-free loan scholarship) Indian citizen; admitted to a foreign PG programme; strong academic and personal statement Tentative March 31, 2027
JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship INR 1 to 10 Lakhs loan scholarship plus gift and travel grants Indian citizen with a first-class Bachelor’s; interview round Tentative March 24, 2027
Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship 50 percent grant, 50 percent loan for tuition and living Indian PG applicant with financial need; admitted to a highly reputed university Tentative March 31, 2027

Reddit Insight: Indian Fulbright-Nehru selectees for smaller state universities like Marshall report that a clear India-development research angle in the personal statement often carries more weight than raw GRE scores at the USIEF interview stage.

Marshall University Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the maximum funding an Indian student can stack at Marshall University?

Ans. The Society of Yeager Scholars route is the ceiling. It covers full tuition, fees, housing, food, a book stipend, a personal computer and an Oxford summer term over 8 semesters. On the merit-only path, the top stack is John Marshall Scholarship (USD 14,000) plus Honors College add-on (USD 500) plus Alumni Legacy for those eligible.

Ques. When should Indian applicants apply for Marshall University scholarships?

Ans. Apply for Marshall University admission by the Fall priority date of tentative December 15, 2026, so merit scholarships auto-trigger from that same file. Yeager Scholars requires a separate December application. Graduate Assistantships open on a rolling basis and typically fill through the spring for the following Fall semester.

Ques. Do Indian applicants need a separate scholarship form at Marshall University?

Ans. Non-resident merit scholarships need no extra form. Marshall University auto-considers admitted freshmen based on GPA and SAT or ACT scores in the admission file. Yeager Scholars, Honors College, Palmquist RA and other Foundation awards need dedicated applications after or alongside the main admission file.

Ques. What SAT or ACT score does an Indian applicant need for a Marshall University scholarship?

Ans. The Opportunity Scholarship (USD 5,000) starts at SAT 1030 or ACT 20 with a HS GPA of 3.0. The top John Marshall Scholarship (USD 14,000) needs SAT 1360 or ACT 30 with a HS GPA of 3.9. Class 12 CBSE and ISC percentages convert to the US GPA scale for auto-consideration.

Ques. Do Marshall University scholarships cover living costs in Huntington?

Ans. Only the Society of Yeager Scholars route covers housing and food. Merit scholarships apply against tuition and fees only, while Graduate Assistantships add a monthly living allowance on top of the tuition waiver. Indian PG applicants typically use the GA stipend to cover rent, which runs USD 700 to USD 1,000 per month near the Huntington campus.

Ques. How competitive is the Palmquist Lab Research Assistantship for Indian applicants?

Ans. Palmquist Lab typically funds one to two MS Biology candidates each Fall cycle across a global applicant pool. Indian applicants with a strong ecology, environmental science or climate research background have a fair shot. A prior publication or field-work record and direct email contact with Dr. Palmquist before the March deadline lift chances significantly.

Scholarship

  • The Scholarships that I received were majorly from the athletic dept - and the criteria for that is solely based upon the coach and how they think your performance is in the sport that you play.
  • However, I also received a merit based scholarship ( It was the presidential one) and here is the criteria for the same :
  • GPA : 3.25 or Higher
  • SAT : 1160 and above
  • I've applied for a lot of business school scholarships however, I'll only hear back from them by next semester.
  • I'm receiving $8,000 a year which can increase if I maintain a 3.5 GPA or Higher.
  • Yes, all of my teammates are on scholarship however, the price varies for everyone and since their US citizens their eligible to apply for financial aid.
  • Over $144 million awarded to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
  • $12,942 in average amount of student federal financial aid awarded
  • $23 million awarded in institutional scholarships and grant
  • Ranked in top 100 of most affordable universities – Best Value Schools

  • Since, I'm a freshman it's compulsory for me to stay On-campus for the next 2 years
  • and can only shift off-campus in my 3rd year.
  • However, it would be better to stay off-campus since it's cheaper and you can have your own kitchen head and privacy, but since I'm an athlete I have to stay on campus for 2 years. Normal students can shift off-campus after their first year.

Scholarship

Yes. I have gotten financial aid and it's actually really easy to get financial aid from Marshall. Plus the bursar's office is very easy to work with.

I chose Marshall because when I stepped foot on campus I knew I was home. I was interested in their Forensics program since it is such a fantastic program. Four years later and I still don't regret my decision.
