University of Kansas Eligibility for Indian Students
KU’s institutional floors are moderate — the university follows an access-oriented policy that admits most applicants who meet its stated academic and English thresholds — but individual programs (Engineering, Business, Nursing) enforce higher GPAs. Indian applicants should treat the numbers below as the minimum floor to be considered, not the score profile of a typical admit.
KU UG Eligibility Floor
- Class XII (recommended): around 65% overall (equivalent to a 2.5 GPA on the US 4.0 scale) from a CBSE, ISC, or state board.
- English: KU does not enforce a single minimum score for on-campus UG admission, but non-native applicants must submit TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE with the application.
- Standardised tests: SAT and ACT are not required for international UG admission.
KU PG Eligibility Floor
- Bachelor’s degree: a four-year Indian Bachelor’s (BE, BTech, BSc Honours, BCom, BA Honours) with a minimum 3.0 GPA on the US 4.0 scale, roughly 65 to 70% or a CGPA of 7.0.
- English (Full Proficiency): TOEFL iBT 4.5 with no section below 20, IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or PTE 60 with no section below 55.

University of Kansas Application Process
KU splits the international application by level. Undergraduate applicants use the KU international UG portal at go2.ku.edu; graduate applicants use gradapply.ku.edu; MBA applicants use the KU School of Business portal. The general sequence is the same across levels.
- Create an account on the KU application portal for your level (UG, PG, or MBA) — graduate applications for Fall 2027 open on 8 September 2026.
- Pay the application fee of USD 100 (₹9,564) for graduate or USD 90 (₹8,608) for undergraduate.
- Upload scanned copies of Class XII marksheets, Bachelor’s transcripts and degree certificate, English test score, SOP, recommendation letters, and resume.
- Request TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE to send official scores to KU (TOEFL institution code 6871; IELTS via e-delivery; PTE emailed to graduateadm@ku.edu).
- Submit before the priority deadline to be considered for scholarships and funding — regular review continues until the final deadline, but funding is decided in the priority round.
- Track the application on the portal and respond to any request for a Certified Statement of Studies (CSSD) or diploma verification.
Once an offer is issued, accept the offer on the portal, pay any deposit, and request an I-20 from KU International Support Services — the I-20 is the document Indian applicants take to the US embassy for the F-1 visa interview. Explore funding for Indian students at KU alongside the application.
Documents Required for University of Kansas Admissions
Every KU international application carries a common core of paperwork. Indian applicants should scan documents at 300 DPI in PDF, keep every file under 5 MB, and label each with the applicant name and document type before uploading.
- Passport bio page — valid at least six months past intended entry to the US.
- Class X, Class XII, and Bachelor’s marksheets — scanned in original English with board or university stamps.
- Bachelor’s degree certificate — required for PG applicants; provisional certificate is accepted at review stage.
- Official English test score report — TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE sent from the testing agency directly to KU.
- Statement of Purpose (SOP) — one page for UG, two pages for PG, tailored to the department and program.
- Letters of Recommendation — two for UG, three for PG, submitted through the portal by referees.
- Resume or CV — mandatory for PG and MBA, optional but recommended for UG.
- Financial affidavit and bank statement — required post-offer for the I-20, showing funds for one year of tuition and living costs.
- Medium-of-instruction letter — if claiming the English test waiver for graduate admission.
- Passport-size photograph — recent, plain background, JPEG or PDF.

Note: KU asks Indian applicants to upload a copy of the Bachelor’s diploma certificate specifically — a marksheet alone is not sufficient at the verification stage per Graduate Admissions FAQs.
University of Kansas Acceptance Rate
KU does not publish a single official institutional acceptance rate. Based on public admissions data and prior enrolment patterns, the undergraduate acceptance rate is estimated at 91 to 94% — an access-oriented profile that admits most applicants who meet the stated Class XII and English requirements. Graduate admission is program-specific and tighter, especially in Engineering and Business.
KU UG Admit Profile
Undergraduate admission at KU is transcript-driven. A Class XII score at or above 65% with subject prerequisites and demonstrated English proficiency clears the review floor. Indian applicants targeting the honours track at KU Business or the direct-admit Computer Science pathway should aim for 75% or higher in relevant subjects.
KU PG Admit Profile
Graduate acceptance rates vary by department. High-demand tracks (MS CS, MS Petroleum Engineering, MBA) are more selective and reward a 3.2+ GPA, quantifiable project or research output, and a targeted SOP. The ranking band KU occupies (US News #340 global, QS #515 for 2027) frames the competitive pool.
Insider note: The strongest signal Indian graduate applicants can send at KU is a matched faculty interest — the SOP that names two potential advisors and cites their published work outperforms a generic SOP even at the same GPA.
KU admissions rewards early, complete applications that match a specific department, faculty advisor, or scholarship line. The path from a Class XII marksheet to an I-20 sits on top of firm deadlines, verified English scores, and a targeted SOP — Indian applicants who plan backwards from the 1 May 2027 Fall UG or 1 December 2026 graduate priority deadline meet KU with the strongest file possible.

- Graduate courses are not so much relevant to the corporate or tech industry except for 1-3 courses.
- Competition for TA and RA is more right now compared to 2 years in the past.
- More Indians and hence more competition.
Overview
Experience of a life time, I have got more funding support than I have expected and overall experience was great.
Scholarship
Yes, I was appointed as Graduate Teaching Assistant and received full tuition funding for 3 semesters. It was worth ~ 30000$
Overview
I wanted to stay in-state because of family and costs. KU is the only university with a medical school as I was pre-med. They also have one of the highest ranking honors programs. They have the Pell Grant advantage, which covers most of my tuition and fees. The campus is beautiful and Lawrence is a great college town.
Scholarship
I receive multiple scholarships from my university, mostly because of my FAFSA. I receive the Pell grant from the government and the pell grant advantage from KU. I also receive a thousand dollar scholarship because of my ACT score. Just file FAFSA on time, keep good grades, and accept the scholarships in your account on enrolling and pay.
