University of Kentucky Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What is the maximum funding an Indian student can stack at University of Kentucky?
Ans. A funded PhD admit can reach roughly $42,000 (INR 40.04 Lakhs) in annual benefit. This stack combines a full Research Assistantship, waived tuition, health plan and a $20,000 (INR 19.07 Lakhs) Lyman T. Johnson or Presidential Fellowship top-up. Master’s students top out at about $32,000 (INR 30.51 Lakhs) with a full assistantship plus the Lyman T. Johnson Master’s award.
Ques. When should Indian applicants apply to be considered for all UK scholarships?
Ans. Submit the complete admission file by December 1, 2026 for UG Bluegrass Spirit and William C. Parker consideration. PG and PhD applicants should contact a Director of Graduate Studies by January 15, 2027. Complete the fellowship forms by early February, and award letters go out between February and April 2027.
Ques. What is the Bluegrass Spirit Academic Scholarship and how much does it award?
Ans. Bluegrass Spirit is UK’s flagship international freshman award, valued at $5,000 to $12,500 per year (INR 4.77 to 11.92 Lakhs). The award requires a minimum 3.0 GPA and is renewable for four years at a 3.0 UK GPA with 30 credit hours per year. Indian freshmen with 90 percent Class 12 marks or a 3.5 GPA typically land in the $7,500 to $10,000 (INR 7.15 to 9.53 Lakhs) band.
Ques. Does a UK graduate assistantship cover rent in Lexington?
Ans. Yes, comfortably. The $22,000 (INR 20.98 Lakhs) annual stipend works out to about $1,830 (INR 1.75 Lakhs) per month. Shared apartments near campus rent for $600 to $900 (INR 57,000 to INR 86,000) per month, and groceries plus transport absorb another $600 (INR 57,000), leaving room for savings or family remittances.
Ques. Are Master’s students at UK likely to secure funding before starting?
Ans. Most Indian Master’s admits at UK arrive without a funding letter. Faculty RA and TA slots open after strong first-semester grades, and the $26,000 (INR 24.79 Lakhs) IBI Fellowship is closed to non-US citizens. Data Science, Computer Science and Public Health applicants should budget for one self-funded semester before applying to campus roles.
Ques. Is the Fulbright-Nehru Master’s Fellowship compatible with a UK admit?
Ans. Yes, if your intended MS falls in one of the eight Fulbright fields, such as Public Health, Environmental Science or Urban and Regional Planning. USIEF funds tuition, living costs, airfare and J-1 visa support directly, so the UK financial aid office simply logs the outside award. Apply by the tentative May 14, 2027 deadline for the 2028-29 US intake.

- Great infrastructure- the college buildings and labs are very advance and had all the resources which are required to a student
- Vast Choices of courses - There were plenty of interesting choices of courses both in general education and my major.
- Student Organizations: There were many student organizations for your interests and also for Indian Students as well.
Dislikes
- Bigger Class sizes - Some courses has 500-600 students in a classroom.
- Tuition : The tuition was a bit higher for international students.
- Job Market : the job market in Lexington was very limited.
Scholarship
- Yes, i received a scholarship. The name of the scholarship is William C Parker. As i was a transfer student from another university, the only criteria was the scores from previous university.
- The award amount was 5k USD for 1 year.
- I am not sure about it as there are different students in mostly every class
- I am also not sure about this.
- I used online platforms to check the accommodation near my college.
- My monthly rent was 600 USD and it was a fully furnished apartment with 4 rooms. I had 1 room in it. It had the furniture, microwave, laundry.
- I think the biggest challenge is the room mates. These accommodations will match you with other people as per the selections you have made in the application.
- I would suggest to live 1 year in a dorm, make friends and then rent out an apartment.
5. - It was 1.5km from my colleges. Most indian students live in apartments with other indian students

- Because the campus was beautiful and it wasn’t too far from my home, it was a school that almost all of my older family relatives went to as well.
Scholarship
I received an Indian girl support scholarship that gave me around 25k in money for my studies.
My experience here would be a very good one. I expected it to be boring since I had to follow into my relatives footsteps but I had a lot of fun. The faculty members will always be sure to keep you on your toes and push you to do your best. This university is for people who want to try different things while being pushed out of your comfort zone.
Scholarship
I filled out the general application which was fairly simple and gained a lot of scholarship money from that. Additionally, I have filled out the departmental application each year and have not yet received any aid from that. They do give you the chance to ask about your application which I have not personally taken advantage.
I liked the program because of it's the incorporation of theatre, fine arts, and communications in the secondary English education curriculum and their masters with an initial certification program. They also had a speech team which I valued and eventually joined. Finally, they gave good scholarships to out of state students.
I chose the University of Kentucky because of the layout of the campus, the nice dorm rooms and the accreditation of the college of nursing. The buildings are all fairly new and well taken care of. The city is also within walking distance.
