Texas Tech University admissions run on a rolling international pipeline with Fall as the primary intake, and Indian applicants can enter with Class XII around 65% for undergraduate or a Bachelor’s at 3.0 GPA (about 75%) for graduate programs.

  • Fall 2027 priority deadline is 1 May 2027 for international first-year applicants at TTU.
  • Base tuition USD 24,452 (INR 23.41 Lakhs) yearly plus USD 75 (INR 7,181) application fee.
  • UG needs Class XII 65%, PG needs Bachelor’s 3.0 GPA, both with IELTS 6.5 floor.
  • Institution-wide acceptance rate sits around 70 to 75% per third-party admissions databases.

Indian applicants concentrate on MS Computer Science, MS Data Science, and MS Electrical Engineering tracks at Texas Tech University, with steady demand across Rawls MBA and Whitacre engineering seats. Read the full ranking band and admit profile before shortlisting.

Admission Status: Open. TTU’s primary Fall 2027 intake is live for international applicants, with the undergraduate priority window closing 1 May 2027 and the graduate recommended date 15 January 2027. The Common Application 2026-27 cycle opened 1 August 2026 and accepts Fall 2027 first-year files. Application fee stays USD 75 (INR 7,181) across UG and PG portals.

Texas Tech University Application Deadlines

TTU works on published priority deadlines rather than fixed rounds, with a small extended window for late files that carry a higher fee. Dates below are drawn per the official TTU important dates page and the international graduate application page. Fall is the primary intake because most Whitacre engineering, Rawls business, and arts and sciences programs open here.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use USD 1 = INR 95.75, the live rate on 18 August 2026. Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

TTU’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (August start) — most programs open here.

Late graduate files after the recommended window are accepted, but the fee climbs to USD 100 (INR 9,575) after 15 September for Spring and 15 April for Fall. Departmental deadlines can be earlier than the graduate school recommendation, so verify with your intended department before assuming the January date holds.

TTU Eligibility for Indian Students

TTU sets an institution-wide academic and English floor, with individual programs layering their own thresholds on top. Indian applicants are evaluated against US GPA equivalents, and Class XII plus Bachelor’s marks are converted rather than compared to a raw percentage.

  • UG general entry: Class XII at 65% or higher from a recognised board.
  • UG assured admission: ACT 24 or SAT 1180 lands most applicants in the first quarter track.
  • PG general entry: Bachelor’s at 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale (about 75%) from a regionally recognised institution.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 79, PTE Academic 60, or Duolingo 100.
  • SAT and ACT: optional for first-year applicants through the current cycle.

Planning note: TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for two years from the test date, so Indian applicants planning a 2027 entry should sit the test after August 2025 to avoid expiry mid-cycle.

Texas Tech IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

India is not on TTU’s country-based English exemption list, but a few pathway waivers stay open to Indian applicants who qualify:

  • Score of 4 (grade C) or higher in English on the IB Diploma.
  • Grade C or better in English on the A-Level GCE.
  • Two consecutive years at a US-accredited high school or completion of 30 transferrable US credit hours.
  • Completion of TTU’s ENG 1301 and ENG 1302 with grade B or better.

IB and Cambridge board students should submit their English grade alongside the application to trigger the waiver; CBSE and ICSE alone do not qualify.

Texas Tech PG Programs and English Scores

Master’s programs at TTU are distributed across Whitacre College of Engineering, Rawls College of Business, and the College of Arts and Sciences, with the graduate school setting a common English floor. Base tuition for graduate engineering sits at USD 17,184 (INR 16.45 Lakhs) a year and Rawls business at USD 21,216 (INR 20.31 Lakhs) a year — see the course-wise fees breakdown for exact per-program figures. Cost of living, insurance, and total budget sit on the Fees silo.

Programme Duration Minimum Eligibility English Req. Min.
MS Computer Science 18 to 24 months Bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA in CS or related IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79
MS Data Science 18 to 24 months Bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA, quantitative background IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79
MS Electrical Engineering 24 months Bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA in EE or related IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79
MS Civil Engineering 24 months Bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA in Civil or related IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79
MS Business Administration (Healthcare) 12 to 24 months Bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79
MBA (Rawls, On-Campus) 12 to 24 months Bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA, GMAT waived at 3.75+ IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79

Assistantships (GA, TA, RA) can convert non-resident tuition to in-state rates and add a stipend; the graduate application checkbox flags interest, but the department awards these. Merit-linked funding for Indian students is worth reviewing before finalising the budget.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Texas Tech page for your chosen program before applying.

TTU UG Programs and Requirements

TTU’s undergraduate profile is broad across engineering, business, agriculture, and arts and sciences, with base tuition of USD 24,452 (INR 23.41 Lakhs) a year for non-resident international applicants. First-year admits use an assured admission grid tied to SAT or ACT scores, and Indian Class XII marksheets are converted for review.

Programme Duration Minimum Eligibility English Req. Min.
BS Computer Science 4 years Class XII 65% with Mathematics IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79
BS Electrical Engineering 4 years Class XII 65% with PCM IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79
BS Mechanical Engineering 4 years Class XII 65% with PCM IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79
BBA (Rawls Business) 4 years Class XII 65%, any stream IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79
BS Petroleum Engineering 4 years Class XII 65% with PCM IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 79

Assured admission bands at TTU: top 10% class rank gets in without test scores; first quarter needs ACT 24 or SAT 1180; second quarter needs ACT 26 or SAT 1240; third quarter needs ACT 27 or SAT 1280; fourth quarter goes to committee review. TTU converts Class XII percentage to US GPA equivalents when SAT and ACT are absent.

Texas Tech Rawls MBA Admissions

The Rawls On-Campus MBA runs 42 credit hours in a 12 or 24-month lock-step format, with Fall as the main intake. Applications for Fall 2027 close 1 July 2027, Spring 2027 closed 1 December 2026, and Summer 2027 closed 1 May 2027 — the next live entry is Fall 2027. Rawls encourages international applicants to file at least six months before the deadline to allow visa processing time.

Insider note: GMAT is waived for On-Campus MBA applicants with a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher on any completed degree. This is the only waiver route for the On-Campus track; the Professional MBA additionally waives GMAT for applicants with 2+ years of full-time work experience.

Rawls MBA Application Requirements

  • Test scores: GMAT valid for five years; TTU sets no minimum floor.
  • Work experience: no minimum for On-Campus track, but recent graduates and early-career profiles fit the cohort.
  • Essays and resume: required, uploaded through the graduate application portal.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 79 unless waived under Rawls policy.

Rawls Application Portal and Fee

Rawls MBA files go through the same TTU Graduate School portal, with the standard USD 75 (INR 7,181) application fee. STEM MBA and Professional MBA tracks share the portal but carry their own deadlines and cohort structures.

Texas Tech University PhD Admissions

PhD applications route through the same graduate portal as master’s, but the department controls admission and funding decisions. Most doctoral programs treat 1 December 2026 or 15 January 2027 as the Fall 2027 deadline, with departmental variation on either side. TTU expects a Bachelor’s or master’s at 3.0 GPA and English proficiency at the institution-wide floor.

Texas Tech PhD Funding Basics

Doctoral funding at TTU typically comes as a Graduate Assistantship (GA), Teaching Assistantship (TA), or Research Assistantship (RA) offered by the department. These awards usually convert non-resident tuition to in-state rates and add a monthly stipend. Department decisions matter more than the application timing, so contact your intended advisor early. External Indian pathways are covered on the Scholarships silo.

Texas Tech PhD Documents

Beyond the standard graduate document set, PhD files usually add a research statement, a writing sample, and three letters of recommendation from academic referees. Departments in Whitacre College often ask for prior publication or project work; humanities programs weight the writing sample heavily.

TTU International Application Process

TTU accepts three parallel application routes for undergraduate international first-year applicants: the Common Application, ApplyTexas, or the TTU International Application. Graduate and doctoral files use the TTU Graduate School portal only. All three UG routes carry the same fee and are evaluated the same way; TTU has no stated preference.

  1. Create an account on the Common Application (opened 1 August 2026 for the 2026-27 cycle), ApplyTexas, or the TTU International Application portal, and add Texas Tech as a chosen school.
  2. Upload Class XII marksheets (UG) or Bachelor’s transcripts with English translation (PG), with all pages certified by the issuing institution.
  3. Upload IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo scorecard and (optional for UG) SAT or ACT scores.
  4. Draft the statement of purpose or essay, upload the CV, and add letters of recommendation where the program asks.
  5. Pay the USD 75 (INR 7,181) application fee on the TTU application portal (RaiderConnect for UG, Graduate School portal for PG).
  6. Submit before the priority window and track your file status through the applicant dashboard.

TTU Admission Decision Timeline

TTU begins releasing decisions in mid-September for Fall applicants, with subsequent decisions in 2 to 4-week batches through the priority window. International admits receive an admit letter followed by the I-20 once financial documents clear. Offers name a deadline to accept and confirm enrollment.

Planning note: If you receive an admit but need to defer, TTU allows deferrals to the next available term on written request, typically limited to one deferral per applicant.

Documents Required for Texas Tech Admission

TTU asks for a compact paperwork set at the application stage, with official copies due once you accept the offer. Every non-English document must carry an English translation from the issuing institution or an ATA-certified translator. Keep clean scans on hand before the portal opens.

  • Passport bio page: valid for at least six months past the expected entry date.
  • Academic transcripts: Class XII marksheet for UG, Bachelor’s transcripts for PG, from every institution attended.
  • Degree certificate: Bachelor’s degree scan for PG applicants (provisional accepted at file stage).
  • English test scorecard: IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE, or Duolingo, valid within two years.
  • Statement of purpose or essay: program-specific prompt where applicable.
  • Letters of recommendation: two for UG (optional), two to three for PG.
  • Resume or CV: academic and professional history, one to two pages.
  • Financial documents: bank statement or affidavit of support, submitted post-admit for I-20.
  • Passport photograph: recent, digital, per US embassy specifications.

Official transcripts, diplomas, and test scores must reach TTU by the 12th class day of enrollment; unofficial copies are enough for the application review itself.

Texas Tech University Acceptance Rate

TTU does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate for international or Indian applicants specifically, so the figure below is drawn from third-party admissions databases and the university’s own admit profile. See the CD TTU acceptance rate breakdown for year-on-year trend data.

TTU Institution-Wide Admit Profile

The institution-wide first-year admit rate hovers around 70 to 75%, placing TTU in the access-oriented public research tier — most applicants who meet the assured admission bands are admitted. International undergraduate seats are a small share of the overall class (roughly 2%, so applicants meeting the academic and English floors typically clear the review.

Where Indian Applicants Sit at TTU

The pattern for Indian applicants tilts toward STEM master’s programs in Whitacre and Rawls. Competitive scholarship awards and GA or TA assistantships in CS, EE, and petroleum engineering stay tighter than the headline admit rate suggests. A Bachelor’s around 3.3 GPA plus IELTS 7.0 typically clears the review comfortably for engineering master’s.

Insider note: The 70 to 75% institutional admit rate does not extend to funded seats. Graduate assistantships, non-resident tuition waivers, and merit scholarships up to USD 6,000 (INR 5.75 Lakhs) per year for Indian applicants are awarded on a much smaller base and reward strong SOPs plus faculty match.

USA Student Visa for TTU Admits

Indian TTU admits apply for the F-1 student visa after receiving the I-20 from TTU. The process is uniform across US universities and runs through the US embassy or consulate closest to the applicant’s home city (New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, or Hyderabad). Budget 6 to 8 weeks between I-20 receipt and visa interview under current wait times.

Steps: pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (INR 33,513) at FMJfee.com, complete the DS-160 online nonimmigrant visa application, pay the USD 185 (INR 17,714) visa application fee, book the biometrics and interview slot, and appear with the I-20, admit letter, financial documents, and academic paperwork. Post-arrival, register with the TTU International Affairs office within the first week to activate SEVIS status.

2026 update: F-1 visa interviews at Indian consulates now target 2 to 3-month wait windows, and slots open in tranches — check the US embassy portal weekly rather than waiting for a single opening.

Tips and Checklist for Texas Tech Admissions

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at TTU and the current admission timeline. Use them to sequence work backwards from your target deadline rather than as a checklist to skim on the last week.

  • Book IELTS or TOEFL by early October 2026 for a Fall 2027 file, so results reach TTU before the priority window.
  • Request Class XII or Bachelor’s transcripts eight weeks before the deadline — Indian boards and universities routinely take four to six weeks.
  • Draft the SOP with a target program in mind, name a TTU faculty member whose work aligns, and keep the tone specific rather than generic.
  • Apply through Common App for parallel US universities — TTU is one of many that accept it, so the same core file works for six to eight schools.
  • Confirm departmental deadline separately for graduate files — the January 15 grad school date is a floor, not a guarantee that your program will still accept files.
  • Trigger the GMAT waiver early if your GPA is 3.75+ for Rawls MBA, and submit the waiver request alongside the file rather than after.
  • Prepare financial documents in advance — bank statements from an Indian bank need not be month-old at admit time, but should cover the full first-year cost of attendance for I-20 issuance.
  • Track the applicant portal weekly after submission for document requests, and respond within 48 hours to avoid a rolled decision date.

Texas Tech University admissions reward applicants who file in the priority window with clean documents and a program-specific SOP. Indian applicants targeting the Fall 2027 cycle should aim to submit by mid-March for UG or December for PG to leave room for I-20 and visa processing. Rolling review and clear assured admission bands make TTU a workable option for a broad academic profile.

Overview

It's a cool and peaceful place to live in with no distractions. I really love my university till now, as it is located in a remote area. We love hanging in and around campus. In terms of education, we really learnt a lot and professor are really good in teaching. We got on campus part times easily and we got our ssn ( which is used to allow internationals to work ) . Very cheap Rental apartments and happy place to live in. I have graduated in the 100th year of TTU and I am really proud of that.

Scholarship

I got the university scholarship which waived of out of state = around 50% of my total fees i.e. 20k dollars

Overview

Cheaper than most other colleges and they give as much scholarship money as possible. The criminology program and Russian foreign language programs were rated well, and job placement after graduation is great. Smaller classes.

Yes, I have a scholarship dedicated to competitive out of state students, which gives me the in-state tuition.
