Texas Tech University Acceptance Rate 2027
Texas Tech University records an overall undergraduate acceptance rate of 71%, positioning it as a moderately selective public research institution. As per US News College data, the figure is officially disclosed and has remained stable across recent cycles.
Selectivity varies sharply by programme at TTU. The Rawls College of Business and Whitacre College of Engineering admit at rates below the university-wide figure, while liberal arts and general studies routes remain more accessible for qualified Indian applicants.
Reality check: A 71% headline acceptance rate does not mean casual admission for Indian applicants. Merit awards, graduate assistantships, and STEM programme seats stay competitive, and the university expects a minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA plus verified English proficiency before it will issue an I-20.

Texas Tech University Campus, Facilities and Student Life
Texas Tech University sits on a 1,839-acre campus in Lubbock, Texas, ranking as the second-largest contiguous university campus in the United States. Spanish Renaissance architecture unifies the built environment, giving TTU a distinctive visual identity across its academic and residential zones.
- Location and transport: Lubbock is a mid-size city in West Texas with regional air links to Dallas and Houston; a free campus bus network (Citibus) connects academic buildings and off-campus housing
- Housing: 18 residence halls accommodate first-year students, and on-campus housing is guaranteed for freshmen; upper-year international students typically move to Overton Park or Tech Terrace apartments
- Facilities: The University Library holds over 2 million volumes, and the National Wind Institute, Innovation Hub at Research Park, and Museum of Texas Tech University anchor the research and cultural mix
- Indian community: The Indian Students Association hosts Diwali, Holi, and Republic Day events; the India Association of West Texas provides mentorship for newly arrived families
What Indian students say: Lubbock is quieter than coastal college towns, which most Indian students describe as ideal for focused study. Grocery access to Indian ingredients requires a drive to specialty stores in the western part of the city, and winter semesters bring cold winds worth budgeting warm clothing for.

Texas Tech University vs Peer Universities
Indian applicants comparing Texas Tech University typically evaluate it against other large Texas publics and mid-tier US research universities of similar QS band and tuition profile.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | Collegedunia Study Abroad | Avg Annual PG Fee | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Texas Tech University | #761-770 | #317 | $16,370 to $21,216 (₹15.63 to 20.26 lakh) | Lowest non-resident engineering tuition in the peer set |
| Texas A&M University | #169 | NA | $62,272 total 9-month COA (₹59.47 lakh) | Top-tier Texas public with strong STEM prestige |
| Arizona State University | Top 35 US publics (estimated) | NA | $39,062 base tuition (₹37.31 lakh) | Largest international student body among peers |
| University of Houston | Not in QS main 2027 | NA | $26,571 to $35,153 (estimated) (₹25.38 to 33.58 lakh) | Urban Houston setting with strong energy sector links |
[Source: QS World University Rankings 2027; institutional cost-of-attendance pages]
Texas Tech University stands out on the tuition axis: engineering non-resident tuition at TTU is roughly one-third of Texas A&M’s non-resident rate for a comparable master’s, and lower than most other US publics on Indian shortlists. The trade-off is a lower QS placement, which matters less for engineering employers who recruit regionally.
Indian applicants targeting a STEM master’s in the United States for under $40,000 in total tuition should shortlist Texas Tech University. Total investment ranges from ₹31 to 40 lakh across the 2-year duration, and the 93% placement rate combined with a $76,000 median starting salary produces a payback window under 3 years for most graduates. The 36-month STEM OPT window on the F-1 visa remains TTU’s strongest India-specific advantage — apply via the standard MS in USA pathway.
Applicants prioritising Ivy-tier brand recognition, coastal tech-hub recruiting, or Global Top 300 QS placement should look elsewhere. A candidate seeking a Bay Area alumni pipeline would be better served by Arizona State University or Purdue University, both higher in QS but at premium tuition. TTU rewards those who value tuition efficiency and STEM OPT eligibility over ranking prestige.

Overview
It's a cool and peaceful place to live in with no distractions. I really love my university till now, as it is located in a remote area. We love hanging in and around campus. In terms of education, we really learnt a lot and professor are really good in teaching. We got on campus part times easily and we got our ssn ( which is used to allow internationals to work ) . Very cheap Rental apartments and happy place to live in. I have graduated in the 100th year of TTU and I am really proud of that.
Campus Life
It's really very big thing to say. There are lot of activities more than you expect, all the days you will be watching a lot of events and activities happening on campus. Our campus is second largest campus in United States which contains around 75k+ students.

Overview
My overall experience with my university has been fantastic. I love my friends that I’ve made and I love my professors.
Campus Life
The life on campus is fantastic. I love the friends I have made. I love going to the football games.
Overview
Cheaper than most other colleges and they give as much scholarship money as possible. The criminology program and Russian foreign language programs were rated well, and job placement after graduation is great. Smaller classes.
Fees
There is tuition, but in addition, textbooks, printing, scantrons, etc. There are included charges with the tuition.
