St. John’s University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
St. John’s University admission requirements for Indian applicants combine India-scale academic thresholds with English-proficiency and credential-evaluation checks.
For postgraduate programmes:
- Bachelor’s degree: Four-year Indian bachelor’s with 55% or CGPA 5.5/10 (recommended). A three-year bachelor’s plus one-year master’s is the safer route for Tobin.
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 80 (Tobin MBA 100), IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 110, PTE 53 or Cambridge 176 for direct admission.
- Credential evaluation: WES or SpanTran course-by-course evaluation with US grade and credit equivalents.
- GRE and GMAT: Not required for the MBA or most MS programmes. A strong score still helps scholarship review.
For undergraduate programmes:
- Class 12: CBSE, ICSE or State Board score of 70% to 85% (recommended). Pharm.D. expects 80%+.
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 80, IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 110, PTE 53 or Cambridge 176 for direct admission. ELITE conditional-admission accepts TOEFL 61 to 79 or IELTS 6.0.
- Documents: Class 10 and Class 12 marksheets, passport, and a first-year financial statement.
Key insight: The ELITE and Conditional pathways let sub-6.5 IELTS applicants secure a St. John’s University offer. English support is completed on campus. Direct-entry TOEFL 80 or IELTS 6.5 remains the cheaper route.
St. John’s University Acceptance Rate 2027
St. John’s University acceptance rate for Indian applicants tracks the overall admit rate closely. As per public admission data, the overall undergraduate acceptance rate is 83%. The international acceptance rate is 85% (estimated). The rate is stable year-on-year. St. John’s sits in the moderately selective band of US private universities.
Well-prepared Indian applicants with Class 12 above 75% and IELTS 6.5+ face very good odds. Graduate admission is more programme-specific. Tobin STEM MS tracks and the MBA are selective within a broadly welcoming environment.
Reality check: A high headline acceptance rate is not a proxy for scholarship generosity. Higher Class 12 and undergraduate marks directly raise the Academic Scholarship band. Aim well above the minimum thresholds.

Subject depth is where St. John’s punches above its overall band. ARWU 2025 places Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at #76 to #100 worldwide. Psychology sits at #401 to #500. The Peter J. Tobin College of Business is AACSB-accredited. That drives strong Indian applicant interest in the MBA and MS finance-family tracks.
Key insight: A US News National rank inside the top 200 meets the selectivity screen for education loans. SBI, HDFC Credila and Avanse all use this cutoff. Employer recognition in the New York tri-state corridor is strong.

Indian applicants who shortlist St. John’s University usually compare it with other private mid-tier universities in the New York metro area. The table below uses annual PG tuition and one differentiator per peer.
| University | Location | Approx Annual PG Tuition (USD/INR lakh) | One-line Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|
| St. John’s University | Queens, NYC | USD 40,920 / INR 39.2 lakh | Vincentian private; STEM MBA and MS eligible for 36-month OPT |

Among these universities in USA, St. John’s University wins on STEM-OPT breadth in Tobin MBA and MS tracks. It also wins on merit-scholarship depth. Fordham sits one selectivity tier higher. Hofstra and Adelphi run cheaper but with a smaller New York City recruiting footprint.
St. John’s University suits Indian students seeking a moderately selective US private in New York City. STEM-designated business, analytics and pharmacy pathways are the draw. Total two-year investment for a STEM MS is INR 76.5 lakh. That runs against a New York median starting salary of INR 65.8 lakh. The 36-month OPT window on MBA in USA tracks is the primary ROI lever.
It is not the fit for applicants who need a top-100 QS world rank for family signalling. It is also not right for those seeking a low-cost public option. Realistic alternatives include University at Buffalo SUNY for public pricing at similar selectivity.

Overview
They gave me a lot of scholarship money and it's only 20 mins from home so I can commute and save the money I would've spent doing elsewhere. Combined with FAFSA, it hardly costs much for me to attend.
Fees
My view of the fee structure is very skewed because I get a lot of money off of my tuition. I think the base tuition is $36,000 or $42,000 but I'm, not 1000% sure.
