- The primary Fall 2027 intake closes 1 June 2027, while Spring 2027 stays open with a 1 November 2026 deadline.
- Base non-resident tuition sits around USD 28,318 per year (INR 27.08 Lakhs), and the application fee is USD 75 for UG (INR 7,173) and USD 90 for graduate (INR 8,608).
- Eligibility floor is Class XII with 2.5 GPA for UG and a bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA for graduate, plus IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 79 or Duolingo 100.
- The overall admit rate sits near 87 percent, marking UTSA as an access-oriented Texas public research university.
Popular Indian-applicant tracks at the University of Texas at San Antonio include MS Computer Science, MS Business Analytics, and MS Data Analytics, all STEM-designated for a 36-month OPT extension. Student sentiment is broadly positive on affordability and STEM designation, though many wish graduate deadlines were less scattered by department.

University of Texas at San Antonio Application Deadlines
UTSA uses one set of international deadlines that apply across freshman, transfer, and graduate applicants, and Fall is the primary intake because most departments only accept new students in the Fall term. The Spring and Summer terms admit fewer programs and skew toward transfers and returning students, so treat them as backup windows rather than default choices.
UTSA’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (June deadline), and most graduate departments open new admissions only for this term.
| Intake | Level | App Opens | Deadline | App Fee | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fall 2027 (Primary intake) | UG | Rolling | 1 June 2027 | USD 75 (INR 7,173) | ApplyTexas or Common App |

Deadlines above are drawn from the official UTSA international admissions page. Graduate departments may publish earlier program-specific cutoffs, so check the program page before you build your timeline.
University of Texas at San Antonio Eligibility for Indian Students
UTSA is an access-oriented public research university, meaning it admits most Indian applicants who clear its stated academic and English floors. Eligibility splits along level and English proficiency, and no separate India-specific quota exists.
- UG general entry: Class XII with 2.5 GPA (around 65 percent) from a recognised board.
- UG transfer entry: Bachelor’s coursework with a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale from a foreign college.
- Graduate general entry: Recognised bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA (around 75 percent) or a strong final-60-hours transcript.
- Credential evaluation: Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by NACES-approved agencies such as WES or ECE.
Every applicant whose first language is not English must submit a valid English-proficiency score, and UTSA accepts multiple tests at the same threshold across departments.
| Test | UG Minimum | Graduate Minimum |
|---|---|---|
| TOEFL iBT (before 21 Jan 2026) | 79 | 79 |
| TOEFL iBT (after 21 Jan 2026, new scale) | 4.0 | 4.0 |
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 | 6.5 |
| Duolingo English Test | 95 | 100 |
| PTE Academic | 58 | Not published |
| Cambridge C1 Advanced | Grade C (180) | Not published |
UTSA IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
UTSA does not treat India as an English-speaking country, so a school-level medium-of-instruction letter alone will not waive the language test. However, the international admissions page publishes three concrete waivers open to Indian applicants: completing college-level English Composition I with grade B- or better at a US institution, holding an SAT reading score of 500 or higher, or scoring 21 or higher on the ACT English component. Applicants who already sat SAT or ACT during Class XII should surface those scores in the application to skip a separate IELTS or TOEFL submission.
UT San Antonio PG Programs and English Scores
Postgraduate departments at UTSA use the university-wide 3.0 GPA floor and IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 79, with individual programs adding subject prerequisites. The table below lists popular tracks for Indian students with duration and program-page English requirements as published on official UTSA pages.

Base graduate tuition ranges from USD 15,000 to USD 28,000 per academic year depending on program and credit load, which works out to roughly INR 14.35 to 26.78 Lakhs. For a program-by-program view, use the course-wise fees breakdown for UTSA rather than the overall cost of attendance.
Insider note: The MS Business Analytics and MS Statistics and Data Science programs are STEM-designated, which entitles Indian F-1 students to a 24-month OPT extension on top of the standard 12 months, a total of 36 months of post-degree work authorisation.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official UTSA international page for your chosen program before applying.
University of Texas at San Antonio UG Programs
Undergraduate applicants from India need a Class XII certificate assessed by a NACES agency as equivalent to a US high school diploma, plus the 2.5 GPA floor and English proficiency. UTSA also publishes SAT-optional and test-optional pathways, though international freshmen without a US high school transcript are still expected to submit CBSE or ISC mark sheets.

UTSA MBA Admissions for Indian Students
The MBA at UTSA is offered by the AACSB-accredited Alvarez College of Business in three variants: a two-year on-campus MBA, a hybrid MBA, and a 100 percent asynchronous Online MBA at 36 credit hours. Indian students holding F-1 visas can enrol in the on-campus or hybrid tracks, since fully online programs are not eligible for F-1 sponsorship.
UTSA MBA Eligibility and English Scores
Applicants need a four-year bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 GPA or strong final-60-hour transcript. English proficiency floors mirror the graduate school baseline: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 79, or Duolingo 100. Work experience is preferred but not strictly required for the standard MBA, while executive tracks expect five or more years of managerial experience.
UTSA MBA GMAT and GRE Policy
UTSA’s Online MBA does not require GMAT or GRE scores, though competitive scores strengthen the file. The on-campus MBA follows the same test-optional stance, with strong scores useful for scholarship consideration. Full-time and hybrid formats do not currently gate admission on the test.
| Intake | Variant | Priority Deadline | App Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fall 2027 (Primary intake) | On-campus MBA | 1 June 2027 | USD 90 (INR 8,608) |
| Spring 2027 | Hybrid MBA | 1 November 2026 | USD 90 (INR 8,608) |
Interview format is a virtual round with an Alvarez College MBA committee member, scheduled after the application review clears an initial shortlist. Indian applicants should confirm intake availability on the Alvarez College page, since not every variant opens every term.
UT San Antonio PhD Admissions and Funding
PhD admissions at UTSA are decentralised, meaning each department reviews applications and admits its own cohort. Most departments admit only for Fall, and priority applications close by 1 December to be considered for full funding.
UT San Antonio PhD Eligibility
PhD applicants need a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field with a 3.0 GPA or higher, a research-focused statement of purpose, two or three academic recommendation letters, and a CV. Some programs, notably College of Sciences PhDs, still request GRE scores, so check the department page before you sit for the test.
UTSA PhD Funding for Indian Students
Full-time admitted PhD students receive a Graduate Teaching or Research Assistantship that bundles a tuition waiver, health insurance, and a stipend. The Computer Science PhD stipend starts at USD 24,000 per year (INR 22.95 Lakhs) for the 2026-27 academic year, with total packages valued at more than USD 42,000 (INR 40.17 Lakhs). College of Sciences packages fall between USD 39,500 and USD 46,500 (INR 37.78 to 44.47 Lakhs). Continuation requires a 3.0 GPA and full-time enrolment at nine credit hours or more.
Planning note: Indian applicants targeting PhD admission for Fall 2027 should have GRE (if required), reference letters, and a research statement drafted by August 2026, since faculty-matching conversations often begin four to six months before the December priority deadline.
University of Texas at San Antonio Application Process
UTSA runs two distinct pipelines: undergraduate applications go through ApplyTexas, Common App, or the UTSA Scarlet portal, and graduate applications route through the UTSA Liaison CAS platform. The eight steps below apply to both, though document lists shift slightly by level.
- Pick your platform and create an account: ApplyTexas or Common App for UG, or the UTSA Liaison CAS for graduate.
- Choose your intake and program, and confirm that the department accepts new international applications for that term.
- Order official Class XII or bachelor’s transcripts and get them evaluated by a NACES agency such as WES or ECE.
- Book and sit for IELTS, TOEFL iBT, or Duolingo, and have the score sent directly to UTSA using ETS institution code 6919.
- Draft your statement of purpose, resume, and two academic references, and gather any program-specific portfolio items.
- Pay the application fee on the ApplyTexas or Liaison CAS portal: USD 75 for UG (INR 7,173) or USD 90 for graduate (INR 8,608). No fee waivers are offered to international applicants.
- Upload financial documents showing at least one year of tuition plus living costs, ready for the I-20 after admission.
- Submit and monitor the applicant portal for decision status and follow-up requests.
UTSA Admission Decisions Timeline
Most graduate programs deliver a decision within 4 to 6 weeks of a completed application, and freshman UG decisions typically arrive within four to eight weeks. UTSA offers conditional admission for applicants who meet academic thresholds but are still finalising English scores. Once admitted, students accept the offer through the applicant portal, then International Student Services issues the I-20 for the F-1 visa application.
Documents Required for UTSA Applications
Every international application at UTSA requires the same core paperwork, with graduate departments adding academic references and a statement of purpose. Prepare originals plus scanned copies before you open the portal.
- Valid passport bio-page scan.
- Class XII marksheet and certificate for UG, or all-semester bachelor’s transcripts and provisional degree for graduate.
- NACES credential evaluation report (course-by-course) for any foreign coursework.
- Official English-test score report sent directly by ETS, IELTS, or Duolingo.
- Statement of purpose (500 to 1,000 words) for graduate programs.
- Two to three academic or professional letters of recommendation for graduate programs.
- Resume or CV covering education, work, projects, and publications.
- Financial statement or bank letter showing one year of tuition plus living costs, for the I-20.
- Passport-size photographs meeting US visa specifications.
- Work-experience letters for MBA, executive, and select professional programs.
UT San Antonio Acceptance Rate
UTSA publishes an overall admit rate of around 87 percent, placing it firmly in the access-oriented tier of US public research universities, meaning it admits most Indian applicants who clear its stated academic and English floors. This figure blends domestic and international freshmen applicants and is not stratified by nationality.
Program-Level Selectivity for Indian Students
Institutional admit rates flatten out program-level differences. STEM-designated master’s tracks such as MS Computer Science and MS Business Analytics are more selective in practice, often admitting 50 to 65 percent of qualified Indian applicants, because seat caps sit lower than the overall university headcount would suggest. Non-STEM master’s tracks and undergraduate BBA majors track closer to the university-wide rate.
What This Means for Your Chances
An Indian applicant with Class XII at 70 percent plus IELTS 6.5, or a bachelor’s at 3.2 GPA plus IELTS 7.0, sits comfortably above the stated floors. UTSA’s ranking band is mid-range in USA-wide tables, so profile-fit and statement-of-purpose quality matter more than incremental GPA gains at this stage.
Insider note: UTSA’s high overall admit rate does not remove the need for a program-specific fit statement. Committees flag generic statements as red-flag content, so tailor each SOP to the department’s research strengths and faculty names.
USA Student Visa Process for UTSA
Indian students admitted to UTSA apply for the F-1 student visa at any US consulate in India, most commonly Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, or Hyderabad. Once admission is accepted and financial proof is uploaded, UTSA International Student Services issues the Form I-20, which is the anchor document for the visa interview.
The applicant then pays the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (INR 33,476), completes the DS-160 online, pays the visa application fee of USD 185 (INR 17,694), and books a visa interview appointment. Documents to carry to the interview include the I-20, passport, DS-160 confirmation, SEVIS payment receipt, admission letter, financial statements, and academic transcripts. On arrival in San Antonio, students complete a mandatory international check-in with the ISS office within the first two weeks to activate SEVIS status.
2026 update: The US Department of State has expanded interview slot availability for F-1 applicants from India through Fall 2026, and average waiting time in Delhi and Mumbai now sits under three weeks, though Chennai remains slower during the May to July peak.
Tips and Checklist for UTSA Admissions
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at UTSA, mixing pre-application insights with a timeline-anchored checklist so you do not miss a dependency in the last 60 days.
- Book IELTS or TOEFL early: Score reporting to UTSA takes 10 to 14 days, so sit the test at least 8 weeks before your target deadline.
- Order the NACES evaluation first: WES and ECE take 4 to 6 weeks to issue the course-by-course report, and the application cannot be reviewed without it.
- Name faculty in the SOP: PhD and thesis-track MS statements gain traction when they cite two or three UTSA faculty by research area.
- Front-load financial proof: Prepare a bank letter showing at least USD 40,000 (INR 38.26 Lakhs) available liquidity for the first year, dated within the last three months.
- Request transcripts 8 weeks before the deadline: Indian universities can be slow to issue official sealed transcripts for graduate applicants.
- Register on the applicant portal after paying the fee: UTSA’s portal only unlocks the document upload page after the USD 90 graduate fee or USD 75 UG fee is paid.
- Trigger the I-20 the week you accept: ISS issues the I-20 within 5 to 10 business days of receiving accepted-offer and financial-proof forms.
- Book the visa interview 6 to 8 weeks before travel: This buffers against any 221(g) administrative processing on the F-1 petition.
UTSA’s admissions story favours Indian applicants who plan around the primary Fall intake, meet the transparent GPA and English floors, and use the Alvarez College and STEM-designated master’s tracks as their strongest OPT-friendly options. Applicants who prepare NACES evaluations, financial proof, and English scores in parallel usually clear the Fall 2027 window without last-minute stress.

Scholarship
- Lots of scholarships are available.
- But I didn't get any scholarship while getting admission. But through my department I get one after getting the on-campus job. The amount of scholarship is 1000 USD. Some of my friends get a scholarship from Indian student association and that amount is also 1000 USD.
- They also get instate fees benefits through that. I don't know the average number of students who receive scholarship but mostly students get financial aid from the department.

I received a scholarship based on the research that I was doing.I got the scholarship from a fund dedicated towards anyone who conducts research on one of the creeks that I had to go for my research study.
Overview
It was close to my hometown, and the campus was not overly big. I took a tour and immediately felt welcomed and not intimidated by the size or people on the campus. The university had all the amenities of a big city campus, without the busyness and noise.
