Texas State University Rolling Admissions for Indian Applicants

Texas State University uses priority dates for scholarship and course-selection preference rather than fixed rounds. Applications submitted after the priority date but before the final deadline are still reviewed. For international applicants, the graduate college notes that each program picks its own priority date of 1 December, 1 January, or 1 February for Fall, so program-specific dates may differ from the university-wide date.

TXST Eligibility for Indian Students

Texas State University sets institution-wide academic and English floors, with program-specific requirements layered on top. The academic thresholds and English test minimums below apply to Indian applicants across the university, per the international admission catalog and the graduate English proficiency page. India is treated as a country where Indian applicants must submit an English test, so plan for that from day one.

Texas State University Undergraduate Academic Requirements

  • Freshman entry: above-average Class XII performance from an Indian board, with credentials equivalent to a US high school curriculum.
  • Transfer with 14 or fewer transferable hours: minimum GPA 2.0 plus freshman standards.
  • Transfer with 15 to 29 hours: minimum GPA 2.5.
  • Transfer with 30 or more hours: minimum GPA 2.25.
  • Board exam credit: Cambridge A-level and AS-level credits are recognised, with Pearson Edexcel, AQA, and OCR reviewed case by case.

Texas State University Postgraduate Academic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree: four-year bachelor’s from a regionally accredited institution. Most three-year Indian bachelor’s degrees do not qualify unless combined with an additional postgraduate credential such as a one-year PG diploma or a master’s degree.
  • Minimum GPA: 2.75 on a US 4.0 scale, near 68.75 percent by Indian conversion, either overall or in the last 60 undergraduate hours.
  • GRE or GMAT: required only for specific programs. Check the individual program page.

Texas State University English Proficiency Minimums

The following tests and floors apply to both UG and PG international applicants.

Texas State University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Texas State University publishes an English proficiency exemption for graduates of accredited institutions in around 50 English-speaking countries. India is explicitly excluded from that exemption list, along with Nepal, Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon, Ghana, and Zimbabwe. Indian applicants must submit a valid IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE, Duolingo, or TOEFL Essentials score for admission consideration, regardless of the medium of instruction at their Indian institution. The only two waiver routes open to Indian passport holders are a completed bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited US institution, or a completed degree from an institution in an exempt country.

Texas State University PG Programs and Fees

Texas State University offers more than 130 master’s, doctorate, and post-graduate certificate programs. The programs below are the ones most commonly applied to by Indian graduates, drawn from the official graduate degrees catalog and the McCoy College graduate page. Base tuition for a full-time non-resident graduate student is USD 11,008 per semester, close to USD 22,017 per year (₹21.08 Lakhs). Cost of attendance figures and program-specific tuition sit on the course-wise fees breakdown.

MSDAIS, MSAIT, MSQFE, and MSMRA are STEM-designated, which extends OPT eligibility to a total of 36 months for F-1 students who complete these degrees. For Indian applicants who plan to pursue US work experience after graduation, that STEM extension is often the deciding factor between the analytics track and the general MBA.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Texas State University graduate catalog for your chosen program before applying.

TXST Undergraduate Programs and Requirements

Texas State University offers a broad undergraduate catalog through the San Marcos and Round Rock campuses, with several online paths. The five programs below are the ones most Indian freshmen apply to, drawn from the official undergraduate majors catalog. Non-resident base tuition sits at USD 10,126 per semester, close to USD 20,252 per year (₹19.39 Lakhs). Fees and cost-of-attendance detail are on the course-wise programs page.

Planning note: Texas State University runs on a semester system, and Fall is the intake where most first-year cohorts start. Indian students entering in Spring 2027 will find fewer club orientations and welcome events sized for their cohort, which is one reason Fall is worth aiming for when the timing works.

Texas State University MBA Admissions

The McCoy College of Business runs the MBA at Texas State University in three formats. Deadlines and requirements are drawn from the McCoy international applicants page and the graduate college pages, and reviewed for the current cycle.

Texas State University MBA Formats

  • Full-time in-person MBA: 36-39 credit hours, San Marcos campus, evening and hybrid course scheduling that suits working professionals in Austin.
  • Online MBA: the same curriculum delivered fully online. Indian applicants abroad can complete the degree while remaining on an F-1 visa only if resident in the US.
  • DBA (Doctor of Business Administration): fully online doctoral option positioned as the most affordable DBA in Texas.

Texas State University MBA Application Requirements

  • Application fee: USD 90 (₹8,618) for international applicants.
  • GRE or GMAT: program-specific. Waivers are considered for candidates with strong undergraduate GPA or relevant work experience. Check the McCoy page for current criteria.
  • Work experience: the university-wide MBA does not publish a fixed years-of-experience floor, though applications with relevant post-graduation experience are stronger.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 (with 6.0 in each module) or TOEFL iBT 78 with section minimums of 19 in Listening, Reading, and Speaking and 18 in Writing.
  • Transcripts: submit in the native grade scale plus a certified English translation. McCoy does not convert Indian grades to a US 4.0 scale.

The McCoy College notes explicitly that it does not offer a conditional language or bridge program admission, so a valid English test at the point of application is mandatory. Interviews are not a standard part of the MBA process at TXST, but individual concentrations may request one after review.

TXST PhD Programs and Funding

Texas State University offers doctoral programs across Computer Science, Mathematics with Applied, General, and Statistics concentrations, Engineering Management, Educational Leadership, and several other fields. Programs run 54 to 78 credit hours with a dissertation. Application deadlines follow the graduate college cycle. For Spring 2027, the priority date is 1 September 2026 and the final is 1 October 2026, per the graduate deadlines catalog.

Texas State University PhD Funding for Indian Students

Doctoral funding at Texas State University is coordinated at the department level rather than centrally, through graduate research and teaching assistantships. GAs receive a tuition and fees waiver from the university, but they are not eligible for financial aid. International doctoral students on F-1 or J-1 visas holding a GA appointment must enrol in 9 credit hours during Fall and Spring, higher than the 6-credit full-time floor. Assistantship stipend amounts vary by department and are set for the current academic year.

Texas State University Merit Fellowships

The Graduate College’s Texas State Merit fellowships are designed to attract top master’s and doctoral candidates. Merit fellowships can be stacked with a departmental assistantship and other scholarships, which is how most funded Indian PhD students at TXST assemble their offer. See the funding options for Indian students for a full list.

Reality check: A three-year Indian bachelor’s degree does not, on its own, qualify for direct entry into a TXST doctoral program. Applicants typically need a master’s degree or a four-year Indian bachelor’s plus additional postgraduate credentials to meet the four-year equivalent standard.

Texas State University Application Process

The steps below apply to Indian applicants at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Portal links, fee amounts, and document requirements come from the official TXST international admissions page and the graduate college documentation pages.

  1. Choose the right portal. Undergraduates apply through the Common Application or ApplyTexas. The Common App 2026-27 cycle opened on 1 August 2026 for Fall 2027 first-year applications. Graduates apply through the TXST Graduate College portal.
  2. Pay the application fee. A non-refundable USD 90 (₹8,618) fee is charged to all international applicants. Fee waivers are not available to international candidates.
  3. Upload academic credentials. Two sets of transcripts and mark sheets from every university attended, in the native language plus a certified English translation.
  4. Submit English test scores. IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 78, PTE 52, Duolingo 110, or TOEFL Essentials 8.5. Scores must be less than two years old.
  5. Add program-specific materials. Statement of purpose, letters of recommendation, CV, and GRE or GMAT where the program requires it.
  6. Track your application status through the applicant portal until it is marked complete and ready for review.

TXST Admission Decision Timeline

After the application is complete, the graduate college and undergraduate admissions team typically issue decisions in 4 to 6 weeks. The exact window depends on whether a program admits on a rolling basis or reviews applications in a single sitting after the deadline. Once admitted, international students work with the International Student and Scholar Services team to request the Form I-20 for the F-1 visa.

  • Offer letter timing: 4 to 6 weeks after application is complete.
  • I-20 issuance: after acceptance, contingent on submitting financial documentation.
  • Deferral policy: requests are reviewed program by program. There is no blanket institutional deferral guarantee for international admits.

Texas State University Documents Checklist

Texas State University asks for a compact set of documents from Indian applicants at both UG and PG levels. Prepare each item in the format specified below before you open the portal, since revisions after submission can slow the file by weeks. Source: official international admission documents catalog.

  • Valid passport: biometric page scan, valid for at least the intended stay in the US.
  • Transcripts and mark sheets: two sealed official sets from every institution attended, with certified English translations if not originally in English.
  • Degree certificate: two copies, native language plus certified English translation.
  • English proficiency score report: sent directly from the testing agency to Texas State University.
  • Statement of purpose: a program-tailored document that speaks to your fit with the specific TXST department.
  • Letters of recommendation: typically two to three, submitted through the applicant portal.
  • Curriculum vitae or resume: especially for MBA, doctoral, and research-oriented master’s applicants.
  • Financial documentation: proof of funds equal to the first year’s cost of attendance, submitted post-admission for I-20 issuance.
  • GRE or GMAT score report: only where the target program mandates it.
  • Work experience letters: for MBA and DBA applicants, from current or former employers.

TXST Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

Texas State University does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party admissions trackers place the overall freshman acceptance rate close to 89 percent, based on published enrolment data and admit-to-apply ratios. That puts TXST in the accessible band of the US public research system, meaning that Indian applicants who meet the university-wide academic and English floors have a high chance of admission.

Texas State University Acceptance by Level

Freshman acceptance is broader than transfer or graduate acceptance, since the university uses program-level GPA and prerequisite requirements to filter graduate and transfer files more tightly. Graduate acceptance varies sharply by program. STEM master’s programs such as M.S. Computer Science and MSDAIS see more competitive review cycles because of high Indian applicant volume.

Where TXST Sits on the Rankings

The Texas State University ranking band shows how the university sits on QS, THE, and US News across national and subject-level lists, useful for shortlisting alongside peer public universities in the Texas system.

Insider note: A high overall acceptance rate at TXST does not translate to easy admission for underprepared files. Indian applicants who fall short of the GPA 2.75 postgraduate floor or the IELTS 6.5 English floor are declined during initial review, so the number to watch is not the admit rate but the eligibility floor.

USA Student Visa for Texas State University

Indian students admitted to Texas State University apply for the F-1 student visa. The process starts once TXST issues the Form I-20, which requires proof of financial support covering the first year of the cost of attendance. For 2026-27, the university estimates the total cost close to USD 40,600 (₹38.87 Lakhs) for non-resident undergraduates and USD 32,000 (₹30.64 Lakhs) for non-resident master’s students, per the official cost of attendance page.

After the I-20 arrives, Indian applicants pay the SEVIS I-901 fee, complete the DS-160 online application, pay the MRV visa fee, schedule a biometric appointment at a VAC, and attend a visa interview at the US Consulate in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, or Hyderabad. On arrival in Texas, students report to the International Student and Scholar Services team at TXST for onboarding and to activate the SEVIS record.

2026 update: F-1 students who bring dependents must show additional funding of USD 5,400 (₹5.17 Lakhs) for a spouse and USD 3,600 (₹3.45 Lakhs) for each child under 21. Plan the bank statement or affidavit accordingly before requesting the I-20.

Texas State University Tips and Checklist

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Texas State University over recent cycles. They cover both what to prepare and when to act on it.

  • Book IELTS or TOEFL early. India is excluded from the country-based English waiver, so a valid score is mandatory regardless of your medium of instruction.
  • Target Fall over Spring where possible. Fall carries the widest program coverage, larger cohorts, and more assistantship openings.
  • Request transcripts 8 weeks before the deadline. Indian universities can take several weeks to issue sealed transcripts with a native-language plus English-translated set.
  • Check the four-year degree rule at PG level. Most three-year Indian bachelor’s degrees do not qualify. If yours is three years, plan a one-year PG diploma or a master’s before applying.
  • Apply by the priority date, not the final deadline. Priority-date filings get better consideration for scholarships and course selection.
  • Prepare the financial documentation before I-20 request. Line up a fixed deposit or affidavit that covers year-one cost of attendance plus dependent support.
  • Choose a STEM-designated program if you plan US work experience. MSDAIS, MSAIT, MSQFE, and MSMRA carry the STEM OPT extension.
  • Book your visa slot as soon as the I-20 arrives. Delhi and Mumbai slots move quickly during peak May to July.

Indian applicants who miss the Fall 2026 window at Texas State University can still target Spring 2027, with an undergraduate freshman deadline on 1 October 2026 and a graduate standard deadline on the same date. Because India is excluded from the English waiver, budget for a live IELTS or TOEFL score. The application fee stays at USD 90 (₹8,618) across levels.

Overview

Scenic campus. Not far away from my family's home so it was easy to travel back and forth when need be. It was close to a large city that provided the entertainment needed as well as a lot of parks around the area.. It was a work out going through campus which was very much appreciated. The amenities offered were very nice like the gym and the library and the hours were great.

Scholarship

I applied for financial aid and it was too easy to receive more money than necessary when attending the school. Schools should provide feedback on the amount needed and the amount being taken out to prevent students from going into debt without realizing it.
