Stanford University fees for Indian students range from $67,731 (INR 57.98 Lakhs) per year for undergraduate programmes to between $65,447 and $89,187 (INR 56.03 to 76.34 Lakhs) for postgraduate degrees, with MS Computer Science, MS Electrical Engineering, and the Stanford MBA drawing the largest Indian cohorts.
Applications for the Fall 2027 intake open in autumn 2026 and close between November 2026 and January 2027 across schools. Stanford runs a single primary intake in September each year, so the intake after Fall 2027 is Fall 2028. Realistic entry from India for anyone researching now is Fall 2027, since the F-1 visa (Confirmation of admission on Form I-20 is required before booking a visa interview) typically takes 4 to 8 weeks to process after the I-20 is issued.
The Knight-Hennessy Scholars programme, which fully funds any Stanford graduate degree, closes 6 October 2026 for Fall 2027 entry, giving Indian applicants roughly 11 weeks from mid-July to submit. Inlaks, JN Tata Endowment, and KC Mahindra scholarships open between November 2026 and April 2027 for students who have confirmed admission to Stanford.
Stanford bills tuition by quarter: Autumn quarter falls due around mid-September, Winter around early January, and Spring around late March. Graduate admits confirm enrolment via the I-20 process rather than a separate tuition deposit, while MBA admits pay a $1,000 (INR 85,600) non-refundable enrolment deposit within roughly 2 weeks of admission that is later credited to tuition. International wires through Flywire typically clear in 2 to 3 business days, so start the transfer at least a week before each quarterly deadline.
An MS at Stanford totals approximately INR 1.35 Crore across 2 years including tuition, Bay Area living, insurance, and travel. A four-year undergraduate degree runs approximately INR 3.4 Crore before financial aid, though Stanford meets 100% of demonstrated need for admitted international students and grants routinely cover 60 to 80% of the cost for Indian undergraduates who qualify.
Exchange Rate as per 24 July 2026: USD 1 = INR 85.60.
Fall 2027 Intake: Planning Runway for Indian Applicants
Intake: Fall 2027 is the actionable target; Stanford has no Winter or Spring admissions intake for degree-seeking students, so the next entry after that is Fall 2028. MBA Round 1 closes early September 2026, MBA Round 2 in early January 2027, MS graduate deadlines cluster in December 2026, and undergraduate Restrictive Early Action closes 1 November 2026.
Fee update: Undergraduate tuition is frozen at $67,731 (INR 57.98 Lakhs) for a second year running, the first freeze in over a decade. Graduate tuition rose 3% and MBA tuition 4% from the 2025/26 rate.
When to pay: No payment is due until you accept your offer. MBA admits pay a $1,000 (INR 85,600) enrolment deposit within two weeks of admission; MS and PhD admits confirm via I-20 without a deposit. Full first-quarter tuition is due mid-September, second-quarter early January, third-quarter late March.
Scholarships: Knight-Hennessy closes 6 October 2026. Inlaks opens November 2026 (closes March 2027), JN Tata Endowment opens December 2026, KC Mahindra opens April 2027. Stanford need-based aid for undergraduates is auto-assessed at application; no separate scholarship form is required.

Key Insight: The Fall 2027 intake is billed at the 2026/27 rate of $67,731 (INR 57.98 Lakhs), with strong probability of a return to 4-5% annual escalation for the Fall 2028 intake based on the pre-freeze trend. If you defer from Fall 2027 to Fall 2028, budget roughly INR 2.3 Lakhs more per year for the same degree. Confirm your offer for Fall 2027 to lock the frozen rate.
The Bay Area is one of the most expensive student rentals in the world; Stanford’s own estimate for a graduate student living on-campus in 2026/27 is $34,776 (INR 29.77 Lakhs) for a 12-month year. Undergraduates in Stanford housing pay a flat room and board rate of $22,944 (INR 19.64 Lakhs) for the 9-month academic calendar.

Note: Cardinal Care health insurance is not optional. Indian students can request a waiver only if they hold a US-compliant plan meeting Stanford’s minimum benefit thresholds, which most Indian corporate policies do not satisfy. Assume you will pay the full $7,800 (INR 6.68 Lakhs) annually.
Off-campus rentals in Palo Alto and Menlo Park average $2,600 to $3,200 (INR 2.23 to 2.74 Lakhs) per month for a shared apartment, meaningfully higher than the on-campus rate. Most Indian graduate students prioritise a first-year on-campus assignment and then move to Redwood City or Mountain View from year two.
Currency Tip: Your first tuition instalment falls due in mid-September for the Fall 2027 intake. Open a forex card or use a bank wire through Flywire to save 2 to 3% versus a straight international debit card transaction. If USD weakens against INR before September 2027, wait until closer to the deadline; if it strengthens, prepay the Autumn quarter as soon as your I-20 is issued.
Total first-year cost at Stanford ranges from INR 88 Lakhs for an on-campus MS in Statistics to INR 1.21 Crore for a first-year MBA, before scholarships or teaching assistantship offsets.

Across a full two-year MS, expect approximately INR 2.10 Crore before financial aid. Across a full four-year undergraduate degree, approximately INR 3.4 Crore. An Indian student funding an MS entirely via a INR 1.5 Crore education loan at 10.5% for 10 years pays roughly INR 2.03 Lakhs per month in EMI after the moratorium period; the same figure for a INR 2 Crore loan is roughly INR 2.70 Lakhs per month.
Key Insight: The Fall 2027 MBA cost of INR 1.21 Crore drops to approximately INR 76 Lakhs after a typical Stanford need-based fellowship ($94,000 over two years, INR 80 Lakhs total). Submit your MBA application in Round 1 (deadline early September 2026) to be evaluated for fellowship funding alongside admission; Round 3 admits rarely receive fellowship offers.

Tip for Indian Students: Submit the Knight-Hennessy Scholars application by 6 October 2026, before you know your Stanford department outcome; the two applications are separate and simultaneous. Winning Knight-Hennessy converts a INR 1.07 Crore MS cost to zero for Indian admits. Even a 5% chance is worth the four-week essay effort.
Time-sensitive for the Fall 2027 intake: book your F-1 visa interview slot at the US Consulate in Mumbai or Delhi within a week of receiving your I-20, since April to August 2027 slots fill fast for the September start.
Budget approximately INR 8-9 Lakhs for first-year hidden costs beyond tuition and living expenses.
Note: Cardinal Care health insurance is the single hidden cost that Indian families most often overlook. It is not optional, it is billed with the Autumn quarter tuition invoice, and it is INR 6.68 Lakhs per year on top of tuition. Include it in your loan amount calculation from the start.

The most urgent saving lever for the Fall 2027 intake is the Knight-Hennessy application closing 6 October 2026; missing it forfeits the largest single funding pool available to Indian graduate applicants.
Tip for Indian Students: For the Fall 2027 MS intake, the highest-value saving lever is securing a Teaching Assistantship in the Winter quarter (starting January 2028). A single TA appointment saves approximately INR 22 Lakhs across the second and third quarters of your first year, and TA status often converts to a Research Assistantship in year two, potentially covering your entire second-year tuition of INR 59.68 Lakhs.
Stanford University fees for the Fall 2027 intake sit at INR 84.75 Lakhs for a first-year undergraduate and between INR 1.03 Crore and INR 1.21 Crore for a first-year Master’s or MBA. Stanford need-based aid brings undergraduate costs down by 60 to 80% for admitted Indian students, and a typical MBA fellowship reduces the two-year MBA total from INR 2.42 Crore to roughly INR 1.62 Crore. Fund a loan-heavy MS through a Teaching Assistantship from the Winter quarter and OPT work income afterwards, and the effective EMI drops from INR 2.03 Lakhs per month to under INR 1.20 Lakhs per month. The single most consequential action for a Fall 2027 applicant right now is submitting the Knight-Hennessy application before the 6 October 2026 deadline, which is the only route to a fully-funded Stanford graduate degree with no repayment obligation.

The syllabus was very well planned and we had plenty of exposure to research experiences as well.
Stanford University School of Engineering had a very good ranking for engineering. Also, compared to other colleges, the admission process was very straightforward and hence easier to complete. My overall experience at Stanford University is best. I like the academics and facilities provided to the students and the International Student Department is very helpful and understanding.
Well, the campus is too great speaking about any industrial exposure we had an online video call with some of the best experts letting us know how to be the best in our field.
$21000 is the program fee.
The course syllabus is very up to date. My current econ class incorporates covid for example. I've been involved with 2 different research opportunities and these experiences are frequently and easily accessible.
65,000 USD
The courses here can be very intense and rigorous (since a lot of them are year-long classes condensed into one quarter) but there are a lot of resources (plentiful office hours, tutoring, TAs) to help you! I think the course curriculum, despite its fast pace, is very thorough and definitely trains you to apply what you learned.
Tuition without financial aid is approximately $50k per year plus about $20k for room and board. Stanford is needed blind, and pretty generous with financial aid though!
