University of Connecticut admissions run through the Common Application for undergraduate entry and the university’s own graduate portal for postgraduate entry. Indian applicants need Class XII at 65% or higher with IELTS 6.5 for undergraduate programs, or a four-year bachelor’s with a 3.0 GPA and IELTS 6.5 for graduate study.

  • Fall 2027 Early Decision closes on 1 November 2026 for undergraduate applicants.
  • Application Fee: USD 75 – 80 (INR 7,175 – 7,648).
  • UG floor (recommended): Class XII 65%, IELTS 6.5. PG floor: four-year bachelor’s, 3.0 GPA, IELTS 6.5.
  • UConn accepts about 55% of applicants meeting its stated academic bar.

MS Computer Science and Engineering, MS Business Analytics and Project Management, and Nursing draw the largest Indian cohorts at the University of Connecticut, and enrolled Indian students report strong co-op access, a stable public-university fee profile, and manageable class sizes on the Storrs campus.

Admissions Status: Open. Fall 2027 is the University of Connecticut’s primary intake, and the Common Application for the 2026-27 cycle opened on 31 July 2026. Undergraduate Early Decision closes on 1 November 2026 with a USD 80 (INR 7,648) application fee.

University of Connecticut Eligibility for Indian Students

Academic and English thresholds at University of Connecticut sit at the mid-range for US R1 public universities. The Graduate School enforces institution-wide floors, and individual programs may add subject prerequisites on top. Indian applicants targeting PG should read the four-year degree rule carefully before choosing between direct entry and a bridging masters.

  • UG academic floor (recommended): Class XII at 65% or higher, with subject prerequisites for engineering and nursing.
  • PG academic floor: four-year bachelor’s with a cumulative 3.0 GPA or Indian equivalent (~65%+).
  • Three-year Indian bachelor’s: generally not accepted for direct PG entry; a two-year Indian PG diploma or masters can bridge the gap.
  • English scores accepted: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 4.5, PTE Academic 60, Duolingo 110.
  • UG applicants may submit SAT or ACT scores, but University of Connecticut remains test-optional for Fall 2027 admission.

University of Connecticut IELTS Waiver for Indian Applicants: UConn’s Graduate School waives the English test where an Indian applicant’s prior bachelor’s or masters was taught entirely in English and the university issues an official medium-of-instruction letter. A second waiver route covers applicants who have completed one full year of prior study at a US post-secondary institution. The medium-of-instruction letter must be on university letterhead and sent by the issuing institution directly to UConn.

University of Connecticut Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline

  • UG Regular Decision decisions: released starting 1 March 2027.
  • PG decisions: rolling by program between January and April 2027, driven by department review.

  • Conditional offers: issued where transcripts or final English scores are pending, cleared before I-20 release.

University of Connecticut Documents Required for Application

University of Connecticut Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

University of Connecticut’s institutional acceptance rate sits at 55% against roughly 56,700 applications in the 2024 admit cycle. That places UConn in the Top 30 US public university ranking band while remaining broadly accessible for Indian applicants who meet the stated academic bar.

How Selective is UConn for Indian Applicants?

The 55% figure is university-wide. Engineering and Nursing at the UG level, and MS Business Analytics at the PG level, run tighter, with acceptance closer to 30 to 40% based on competitive-intake program patterns. Indian applicants with strong quantitative backgrounds see stronger conversion than the headline rate suggests.

UConn Acceptance Rate Trend

Selectivity has stayed broadly flat across the last three admit cycles. UConn does not use a lottery or capped intake, so the acceptance rate reflects genuine holistic review rather than yield-shaping.

Insider note: UConn’s 55% university-wide acceptance rate reads generous, but School of Business PG programs are the tightest gate for Indian applicants because the cohort caps at around 100 students per intake.

University of Connecticut suits Indian applicants who want a Top-30 US public research university at a mid-range fee, a 55% acceptance rate that rewards a solid academic record, and clear Fall 2027 deadlines running from 1 November 2026 for UG Early Decision through 1 December 2026 for graduate programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. Is a three-year Indian bachelor’s degree accepted for UConn PG admission?

Ans. No. UConn’s Graduate School does not treat three-year Indian bachelor’s degrees as equivalent to a four-year US degree, even with a WES evaluation. Applicants can bridge the gap with a two-year Indian PG diploma or a masters degree from an accredited institution.

Ques. What is the University of Connecticut application fee for Indian students?

Ans. Undergraduate applicants pay USD 80 (INR 7,648) through the Common Application. Graduate applicants pay USD 75 (INR 7,175) through the UConn Grad Portal. Both fees are non-refundable and paid in USD.

Ques. What is the minimum IELTS score for University of Connecticut?

Ans. The Graduate School and undergraduate admissions both require IELTS 6.5 as the institution-wide minimum. Some programs may set a higher bar of IELTS 7.0, particularly Nursing and Communication tracks. TOEFL iBT 4.5, PTE 60, and Duolingo 110 are accepted alternatives.

Ques. Does UConn require SAT or ACT for Indian undergraduate applicants?

Ans. No. University of Connecticut is test-optional for Fall 2027 entry. Indian applicants can apply without SAT or ACT and be reviewed holistically on Class XII results, essay, and recommendations.

Ques. Does UConn waive IELTS or TOEFL for Indian applicants?

Ans. Yes. The Graduate School waives the English test where an Indian applicant’s prior degree was taught fully in English and the university issues a formal medium-of-instruction letter on official letterhead. The letter must be sent directly by the issuing university.

Ques. Does UConn require GMAT or GRE for graduate admissions?

Ans. No, at the Graduate School level. Individual programs may still require GMAT or GRE, and the School of Business treats GMAT as optional but recommended for Full-Time MBA applicants. Check your program’s page for confirmation.

Ques. What financial documents does UConn need for the I-20?

Ans. UConn requires a signed financial affidavit and a recent bank statement showing funds equal to the first year’s tuition and living costs. Sponsor letters from parents or approved education loan sanction letters from Indian banks are both accepted.

Overview

My overall experience at this university has been really well. Everybody has been super welcoming and helpful and I love the environment. My apartment is very close to the university so I don’t need a car and the transportation has been really great too.

Overview

The university does provide a proper structured coursework which would touch on all parts of the basics. With the professors' real time experience and intellect, the course starts to make more sense. Apart from coursework, there are a couple of networking events the university organizes which are actually helpful for the students.

Overview

This college is in my home state and I ultimately chose it because it was the cheapest I got accepted to because I have in state tuition. I was in the top 10th percentile of my class and I got accepted into UConn’s honors program that only accepts 500 students out of an incoming class of over 6000. I chose this program because I originally thought I would transfer out but after staying for a year I really liked the school, it was big enough and had plenty of diversity and programs offered. But small enough that I didn’t feel overwhelmed by the large community. The honors program is a fantastic community.

Scholarship

I have availed academic merit scholarship and university grants.
