University of Central Missouri (UCM) is a public state institution in Warrensburg, Missouri, founded in 1871 and serving over 13,700 students across 150 academic programmes. It sits at #19 among Top Public Schools in the US News Regional Universities Midwest 2026 list, marking it a moderately selective public university with broad applied programme coverage.

University of Central Missouri Admission 2027
UCM operates three intakes in an academic year (Fall, Spring, Summer). Fall is the primary window for Indian applicants because it carries the widest programme catalogue, the most scholarship funds, and the smoothest I-20 processing timeline.
The deadline table below is the officially published international schedule for applicants based outside the United States. Programme start dates fall in the month after each deadline cycle.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Spring 2027 application deadline | 1 November 2026 | International applicants from outside the United States |
| Summer 2027 application deadline | 1 April 2027 | Limited PG programme availability |
| Fall 2027 application deadline | 1 July 2027 | Primary intake for MS and MBA cohorts |
| Financial support proof | Two weeks after each application deadline | Bank statement plus Financial Declaration Form |
| Fall 2027 programme start | August 2027 | Orientation precedes classes by one week |
[Source: UCM International Graduate Admissions]
Planning note: UCM formally recommends applying three to four months ahead of the posted deadline to protect the I-20 and F-1 visa slot. Indian applicants targeting Fall 2027 should aim to submit by mid-March 2027.

University of Central Missouri Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Requirements are grouped by degree level. Every applicant submits an academic transcript, a Financial Declaration Form, an English test score, and a USD 75 application fee.
Graduate (MS and MBA):
- Awarded bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution, with equivalency assessed on transcript review; 60% or CGPA 6.0/10 (recommended). Prior US graduate coursework must show a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 79, IELTS Academic 6.0, Duolingo 120, or Oxford ELLT 7 as published by UCM International Admissions.
- Financial documents: Financial Declaration Form and an official bank statement translated to English.
- GRE and GMAT are not required for the standard MS or MBA admission.
Undergraduate (BS):
- Class 12 with a minimum 2.0 high school GPA equivalent; 55% or above on the Indian scale (recommended).
- English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 61, IELTS Academic 5.5, Duolingo 95, Cambridge C1/B2 162, or Oxford ELLT 6.
- UCM’s own English Proficiency Test is available on request as a substitute for the standard tests.
Key insight: UCM does not publish a formal IELTS or TOEFL waiver, but applicants from schools where instruction was fully in English can request an internal proficiency check. That route is faster than retaking IELTS if a first attempt fell short.
University of Central Missouri Acceptance Rate 2027
The published acceptance rate for University of Central Missouri is 63.8%, sourced from the UCM Common Data Set 2024-25. This is an institution-level, undergraduate-first figure; graduate admission rates vary by programme and are not published separately.
UCM is therefore a moderately selective public university. For context, Indian applicants meeting the base bachelor’s or Class 12 threshold plus the English test minimum have a favourable statistical position.
Reality check: A 63.8% headline hides programme-level variance. Capped MS Computer Science and MS Cybersecurity cohorts read as more selective than the university-wide figure once the international applicant volume from India is factored in.

University of Central Missouri Campus, Facilities and Student Life
UCM’s main campus sits in Warrensburg, a small city roughly 80 kilometres east of Kansas City on Missouri State Highway 13. The campus is a compact walkable footprint served by the campus shuttle and the free Warrensburg community bus.
- Location and transport: Warrensburg links to Kansas City via Amtrak’s Missouri River Runner service; Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is the nearest hub.
- Housing: On-campus residence halls cost USD 6,528 per academic year; off-campus shared rentals within walking distance run USD 400 to USD 700 per person per month.
- Facilities: A second delivery site in Lee’s Summit hosts business and technology graduate programmes closer to Kansas City for students who prefer a suburban base.
- Indian community: The Indian Student Association organises Diwali, Holi, and cricket events, and coordinates airport pickup for new arrivals in each intake.
What Indian students say: Warrensburg is small and quiet, so social life centres on campus events and community groups rather than city outings. Kansas City weekend trips fill the gap for concerts, cricket leagues, and Indian grocery runs.
University of Central Missouri Scholarships 2027
UCM lists four international scholarship routes on its financial aid site, ranging from a USD 1,000 first-term award to a full-ride Rotary sponsorship. Values are set for the 2026-27 cycle and are re-confirmed each year.
| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Duane R. Sterling Rotary Scholarship | Full-ride | Full tuition, housing, meals for one year | 3.0 UG or 3.5 PG GPA plus Rotary service commitments | 1 February 2027 (typical) |
| Global Partner Award | Merit, tuition | 100% of non-resident fees (renewable up to 8 semesters) | Applicants from UCM partner institutions, 2.5 GPA | Rolling; verify at official page |
| Transfer Red and Black Scholarship | Merit | USD 1,000 to USD 2,000 per year | Transfer students with 3.0 college GPA | Rolling; verify at official page |
| First-Term UG Award | Entry grant | USD 1,000 (first semester, non-renewable) | New international undergraduate or transfer applicants | Automatic with UG admission |
Planning note: The Rotary sponsorship carries service obligations (Rotary club presentations, district conference, Capitol visit) that eat calendar time. Indian applicants planning a heavy first-year credit load should factor this in before accepting the offer.

As per US News 2026, UCM also picks up #27 for Best Colleges for Veterans and #57 among Best Value Schools in the Midwest. Money Magazine featured UCM among Best Computer Science Master’s Programs for Your Money 2025, and the Wall Street Journal ranks UCM among America’s top 400 institutions for 2026.
Key insight: UCM’s regional US News position, not a global rank, is what an Indian applicant should use when checking visa officer familiarity and Indian-employer recognition. Public regional universities in this band are routinely accepted for F-1 visa issuance and STEM OPT.
University of Central Missouri Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
UCM does not publish a consolidated graduate-cohort placement rate. Career outcomes are supported through the UCM Career Services Center, which runs on-campus recruiting fairs, employer-in-residence sessions, and one-to-one coaching for international students.
- Median starting salary: Not centrally disclosed; US market median for a UCM MS in Computer Science graduate sits around USD 72,000 to USD 85,000 (INR 68.95 lakh to INR 81.40 lakh), based on regional Missouri-Kansas City hiring benchmarks.
- Recruiter sectors: Technology, cybersecurity, healthcare IT, business analytics, and manufacturing, drawing from the Kansas City metro employer base.
- OPT and STEM OPT: MS Computer Science, MS Cybersecurity, and MS Big Data are STEM-designated; graduates qualify for 12 months of OPT plus the 24-month STEM extension.
- Career support: International Student Services runs OPT and CPT workshops each semester and hosts an annual Career and Internship Fair.
- Indian alumni presence: UCM alumni feature in engineering and IT roles across Kansas City, Dallas, and the Bay Area technology corridor.
Insider note: Kansas City’s Cerner, Garmin, and Sprint alumni networks are the most active pipelines for UCM Indian graduates in technology and analytics roles. On-campus assistantships remain the strongest predictor of a smooth OPT transition.
University of Central Missouri vs Peer Universities
The peer set below is regional US News mid-tier public universities that Indian applicants shortlist alongside UCM for affordable STEM and MBA options. Fee bands are average annual PG tuition for international students.
| University | US News Regional Rank | Collegedunia Study Abroad | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD / INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| University of Central Missouri | #59 Regional Midwest 2026 | #685 | 13,000 / 12.45 lakh (median) | Lowest tuition among peer set for STEM MS |
| University of North Texas | #289 National 2026 | NA | 19,500 / 18.67 lakh | Larger Indian cohort, Dallas metro proximity |
| Northwest Missouri State University | #84 Regional Midwest 2026 | NA | 12,600 / 12.07 lakh | Applied MS Applied Computer Science pipeline |
| Missouri State University | #38 Regional Midwest 2026 | NA | 15,800 / 15.13 lakh | Broader research portfolio, higher entry bar |
UCM’s edge is price: standard MS tuition undercuts most Midwest public peers, and STEM designation on the flagship MS Computer Science degree keeps OPT parity intact. Applicants can also review the wider University of North Texas vs University of Central Missouri comparison for a like-for-like read.
Key insight: Northwest Missouri State University matches UCM on tuition but sits further from Kansas City; UCM’s Warrensburg-Kansas City corridor gives graduates a stronger internship radius during the coursework phase.
University of Central Missouri fits the Indian graduate applicant who wants a STEM-designated master’s at USD 9,000 to USD 22,000 per year, delivered by a moderately selective public university with 63.8% acceptance and a live pipeline into Kansas City employers. The full-programme investment of INR 17 lakh to INR 41 lakh sits below most peer US public universities, and a market-median starting salary of USD 72,000 to USD 85,000 (INR 68.95 lakh to INR 81.40 lakh) gives a defensible ROI window against 12 to 36 months of STEM OPT.
UCM is not the fit for applicants targeting a QS or THE global rank badge, or those who want a large-city campus setting. Comparable Indian applicants prioritising urban proximity often pivot to the University of North Texas in the Dallas metro, which trades small-town cost efficiency for a bigger recruiter footprint.
University of Central Missouri FAQs
Ques. Does UCM require GRE or GMAT for MS admission?
Ans. No. University of Central Missouri does not require GRE or GMAT for standard MS and MBA admission. The core graduate application relies on the awarded bachelor’s transcript, an English proficiency score (TOEFL 79 or IELTS 6.0), a Financial Declaration Form, and the USD 75 application fee. GRE may still strengthen a scholarship case for competitive assistantship funding, but it is not an admission gate.
Ques. What English test waivers does UCM offer Indian applicants?
Ans. UCM does not publish a formal IELTS or TOEFL waiver, but the UCM English Proficiency Test is available on request as a substitute. Applicants who completed a full undergraduate degree with English as the medium of instruction can request an internal proficiency check. Duolingo (score 120 for graduate, 95 for undergraduate) and Oxford ELLT are accepted alternatives to the traditional TOEFL and IELTS routes.
Ques. Can University of Central Missouri students work off-campus with F-1 status?
Ans. F-1 international students at UCM can work up to 20 hours per week on-campus during the academic term and full-time during breaks. Off-campus employment requires Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT) authorisation. Most Indian graduate students access off-campus paid roles in the second year through CPT tied to a curricular internship or through post-completion OPT after graduation.
Ques. How long can UCM graduates stay on OPT after graduation?
Ans. UCM graduates on standard OPT can work in the United States for 12 months after graduation on any degree. STEM-designated degrees at UCM (including MS Computer Science, MS Cybersecurity and Information Assurance, and MS Big Data Analytics and Information Technology) qualify for an additional 24-month STEM OPT extension, taking total post-graduation work authorisation to 36 months.
Ques. Which UCM master’s programmes qualify for STEM OPT extension?
Ans. UCM’s STEM-designated master’s programmes include MS Computer Science, MS Cybersecurity and Information Assurance, MS Big Data Analytics and Information Technology, MS Industrial Management, and MBA Data Analytics and Business Intelligence. Each carries a CIP code recognised on the US Department of Homeland Security STEM list, unlocking the 24-month STEM OPT extension on top of the standard 12-month OPT window for Indian graduates.
Ques. How much is the UCM application fee for Indian applicants?
Ans. The University of Central Missouri international application fee is USD 75, non-refundable, and payable when the online application is submitted. It applies to both undergraduate and graduate international applicants. There is no published blanket waiver, though partner-institution referrals and Global Partner Award pathways occasionally sponsor the fee. Indian applicants should budget the fee alongside the transcript courier and bank statement translation costs.
Ques. Which Indian banks offer education loans for University of Central Missouri?
Ans. Major Indian public and private lenders (SBI, HDFC Credila, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda) recognise University of Central Missouri as an accredited US public institution eligible for education loan funding. Loans typically cover tuition plus living expenses on the I-20 estimate. Collateral-backed loans reach INR 1.5 crore; unsecured loans generally cap around INR 40 lakh for Indian UCM applicants.
Ques. Is University of Central Missouri accredited for Indian degree recognition?
Ans. Yes. University of Central Missouri holds regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association, the US standard for degree-granting public institutions. UCM degrees are recognised by the Association of Indian Universities for equivalence purposes and by major Indian public sector employers and university admissions bodies for PhD entry and government examinations.

University of Central Missouri Reviews
1 Reviews Found
Likes
- Opportunities to work within the university
- The various sports and clubs it offered
- Stress-free academic syllabus
Dislikes
- Distance from a big city is quite high
- Unavailability of international groceries in the town
- Typical college town - only active during semesters and dead in breaks
Campus Life
- 2 campuses, UCM, Warrensburg, MO and UCM, Lee's Summit, MO
- The Lee's Summit Campus is a satellite campus and only has classrooms and a few labs, with a UCM Bookstore.
- The main campus has everything. Multiple colleges, a huge library, two indoor stadiums and gyms, one big football stadium, trap and skeet, golf, wall climbing, baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, rugby, track, a university health center.
- I wanted to play basketball but ended up joining the Rugby team in my first semester, quickly made friends that helped me with a lot of stuff and showed real companionship as we travelled to other colleges/universities in other states.
- I also joined the university's fencing club and quickly rose as a leader and even won a medal at SIUE, Illinois for Sabre fencing, I was a part of the International Students Organization, I was the President of the American Society for Quality.
Fees
- For my entire master’s course in CIS and IT, the main cost was tuition, which was charged per credit hour and billed each semester.
- The total tuition for the full program was approximately $25,000 to $35,000. Including the mandatory university and technology fees were around $1,500 to $2,500 per year. Housing or hostel charges were separate from tuition.
- At my college, fees were charged on a credit-based, semester-wise system. Tuition depended on the number of credits taken each semester, while mandatory fees were added each term. Housing was billed in the same system, usually by semester.
- My estimated monthly living expenses were about $800. This included rent and utilities at roughly $500 to $600 per month, food and groceries around $150 to $200, and transportation and other regular personal expenses of about $50 to $100 per month.
- Health insurance was mandatory and cost approximately $1,000 per year.
