Purdue University admissions run on a two-intake cycle for Indian students, with undergraduate entry through the Common Application requiring Class XII around 80 percent plus IELTS 6.5, and graduate entry through the Purdue Graduate School portal requiring a four-year Bachelor’s near 3.0 GPA with IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 80+.

  • Fall 2027 Early Action closes 1 November 2026 for undergraduate applicants at the primary Fall intake.
  • Base tuition sits around USD 30,000 (INR 28.35 Lakhs) per year, and the international application fee is USD 75 (INR 7,088).
  • Undergraduate needs Class XII near 80 percent with IELTS 6.5; graduate needs a Bachelor’s with 3.0 GPA equivalent and IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 80+.
  • Institutional acceptance rate sits close to 50 percent, with tighter selectivity in engineering and computer science.

MS Computer Science, MS Industrial Engineering, and MS Aerospace Engineering draw the largest Indian cohorts at Purdue University, and Indian students consistently rate the Boilermaker Indian community, on-campus research assistantships, and STEM OPT eligibility as decisive strengths.

Admission Status: Open. Purdue’s primary Fall 2027 intake is live for undergraduate and postgraduate applicants. The Common Application for Fall 2027 opened 1 August 2026, and Early Action closes 1 November 2026 with a USD 75 (INR 7,088) application fee. Spring 2027 postgraduate applications for applicants outside the US close 15 October 2026.

Purdue University Application Deadlines for Indian Students

Purdue runs two intakes each year, Fall (August) and Spring (January), per the Purdue Graduate School how-to-apply page and the Purdue undergraduate apply page. Fall is the primary intake and opens most programs; Indian applicants outside the US face earlier cut-offs than domestic candidates to allow visa processing.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use USD 1 = INR 94.50, the live rate on 8 September 2026. Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

Purdue’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (August), and most postgraduate and all undergraduate programs open here.

Individual departments, especially in Engineering and Computer Science, publish earlier internal cut-offs than the graduate-school-wide date, so Indian applicants should confirm on the target department page well before submitting.

Planning note: Spring 2027 PG applications close on 15 October 2026, roughly one month from now. Indian applicants targeting Spring should have transcripts and test scores ready this week to allow for I-20 issuance and visa slot booking.

Purdue University Eligibility for Indian Students

Eligibility at Purdue is built on academic thresholds, English-language proof, and program-level prerequisites. Purdue’s Graduate School page states the institution-wide floors, but each department can layer stricter requirements on top. Numbers here are the institution-wide minimums translated into Indian terms.

Purdue Undergraduate Admission Requirements

  • Class XII: Strong performance from CBSE, ICSE, or a state board, typically 80 percent and above in the best-of-four board subjects for engineering and business.
  • Subject rigour: Four years of Mathematics through Class XII plus laboratory science for engineering programmes.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 overall, TOEFL iBT 88, PTE Academic 60, or Duolingo English Test 115.
  • SAT or ACT: Test-optional through the Fall 2027 cycle for most colleges; strong scores still support merit review.

Purdue Graduate Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree: Four-year Indian Bachelor’s (or three-year with an approved Master’s) in a related discipline, with a GPA equivalent to 3.0 on 4.0, roughly 65 to 70 percent in Indian terms.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 (Reading 6.5, Listening 6.0, Speaking 6.0, Writing 5.5), TOEFL iBT with Purdue’s Best Score minimums (Writing 4.0, Speaking 3.5, Listening 3.5, Reading 4.0), or Duolingo English Test 115 overall.
  • Standardised tests: GRE required by many STEM departments, waived by some; GMAT preferred for Daniels School programmes.

Purdue IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Purdue grants routine English-proficiency waivers only to a narrow set of Indian applicants. You qualify if you hold a prior degree from an English-speaking country on Purdue’s approved list (UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA) completed within 36 months of your admission recommendation, or if you have previously earned a Purdue degree, certificate, or teacher licence. Indian medium-of-instruction certificates alone do not trigger a waiver.

Purdue University PG Programs and English Score Requirements

Purdue’s postgraduate catalogue at West Lafayette runs across Engineering, Science, Krannert/Daniels School of Business, Agriculture, Pharmacy, and Liberal Arts. The programs below draw the deepest Indian cohorts, with entry rules per department pages. Base tuition sits close to USD 30,000 (INR 28.35 Lakhs) per academic year for most STEM masters; see the full course-wise fees breakdown at Purdue for per-programme detail.

Insider note: Purdue’s MS Business Analytics at Daniels sits at IELTS 7.0 and TOEFL 100, higher than the institution-wide 6.5 or 80, and Indian applicants routinely underestimate the writing sub-score cut. Book a retake window before your final submission if any section is borderline.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Purdue Graduate School page for your chosen program before applying.

Purdue University UG Programs and Admission Requirements

Undergraduate admission at Purdue is Common-App-based and holistic. Indian applicants apply directly into a college (Engineering, Science, Krannert Business, Agriculture, Pharmacy, Liberal Arts). First-Year Engineering is the standardised entry gate before major selection in the second year.

ProgrammeDurationMinimum EligibilityEnglish Req. Min.
BS First-Year Engineering4 yearsClass XII around 85 percent with Mathematics and Physics through Class XIITOEFL iBT 88 or IELTS 6.5
BS Computer Science4 yearsClass XII around 85 percent with Mathematics; direct-admit and highly selectiveTOEFL iBT 88 or IELTS 6.5

BS Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering4 yearsClass XII around 85 percent with Mathematics, Physics, and ChemistryTOEFL iBT 88 or IELTS 6.5

Direct-admit majors such as Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, and Nursing carry sharper Class XII expectations than the college-wide floor and use Early Action heavily.

Purdue University MBA Admission for Indian Students

The Mitch Daniels School of Business runs an accelerated One-Year MBA at West Lafayette designed around a STEM cohort, an Online MBA, and STEM-designated specialised masters. Application flow, GMAT policy, and interview stages differ across the three MBA formats, and Indian applicants should map their profile to the correct route before submission.

Daniels One-Year MBA Application Rounds

The One-Year MBA opens Fall 2027 entry with an Early Application deadline of 15 December 2026 and a Final International deadline of 1 April 2027. US applicants get an extended final date of 1 July 2027. Decisions release on a rolling basis, so Indian applicants gain from applying in the Early round to secure funding and visa lead time. Confirm at the Purdue business school ranking band before locking your target programme mix.

Purdue MBA Test Scores and Work Experience

  • GMAT or GRE: Not mandatory for the One-Year MBA or Online MBA, but a strong score materially helps the application.
  • Work experience: One to two internships plus a technical undergraduate background (engineering, science, or technology) for the One-Year MBA.
  • English proficiency: IELTS 7.0 all bands, TOEFL iBT sub-scores of 4.5 each (Purdue Best Score system), or Duolingo 130.
  • Interview: By invitation after application review; typically 30 to 45 minutes with the admissions committee.
  • Application fee: USD 75 (INR 7,088) for international applicants; no fee waiver route for Indian candidates.

Explore Daniels’ full-scholarship options through the Scholarships page before committing; the One-Year MBA base tuition and fees are set per cohort year on the school’s official fee schedule.

Note: MBA rounds, work-experience floors, and interview policies may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Confirm on the official Mitch Daniels School of Business admissions page before applying.

Purdue University PhD Admission for Indian Students

Purdue PhD admission is department-driven and rests on research fit with a named faculty advisor rather than the graduate-school-wide committee alone. Indian applicants should identify two or three Purdue faculty whose recent publications match their research statement before submitting.

Purdue PhD Application Steps

  • Research fit: Read faculty group pages, name preferred advisors in the Academic Statement of Purpose.
  • Application: One graduate application per department through the Purdue Graduate School portal.
  • Documents: Academic Statement of Purpose (2 pages), Personal History Statement, three letters of recommendation, transcripts, and GRE (where required).
  • English proof: Same institution-wide floors (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT sub-scores per Best Score, Duolingo 115).
  • Deadlines: Fall 2027 PhD applications close between 1 December 2026 and 15 January 2027 for most STEM departments; Spring 2027 PhD entry is limited and closes 15 October 2026 for applicants outside the US.

Purdue PhD Funding for Indian Students

Most Purdue PhD admits arrive with a departmental assistantship covering tuition and a monthly stipend for the 2026-27 academic year. Stipend levels vary by department and funding cycle; Engineering and Computer Science advertise the largest annual stipend bands. Check the Scholarships page for supplementary Indian-focused awards.

Note: PhD deadlines, funding levels, and department-specific requirements may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Confirm on the official Purdue department page before applying.

Purdue University Application Process Step by Step

Purdue routes undergraduate applicants through the Common Application and postgraduate applicants through the Purdue Graduate School portal. The steps below sequence the actions Indian applicants need to complete before their deadline.

  1. Create an account on the Common Application (undergraduate) or Purdue Graduate School portal (postgraduate). The Common App for Fall 2027 opened 1 August 2026.
  2. Pay the application fee of USD 75 (INR 7,088) on the same portal at submission; there is no fee waiver route for Indian international applicants.
  3. Upload official transcripts from every institution attended, with certified English translations if the original is not in English.
  4. Send IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo scores to Purdue’s institution code directly from the test provider.
  5. Send GRE or GMAT scores where the target department requires them.
  6. Submit the Academic Statement of Purpose, Personal History Statement (PG), and three letters of recommendation through the portal recommender workflow.
  7. Track the application status daily after submission and respond to any department-specific supplementary questions within 48 hours.

Purdue University Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline

Purdue releases undergraduate and postgraduate admission decisions on defined windows tied to each deadline, and Indian applicants should plan their I-20 request and visa slot booking around the release date.

  • UG Early Action: Decisions released by 15 January 2027 for applications submitted by 1 November 2026.
  • UG Regular Decision: Decisions released between 15 January 2027 and 31 March 2027.
  • PG applications: Rolling review, department dependent, typically six to twelve weeks from a complete application.
  • Admit acceptance: UG admits confirm attendance by 1 May 2027 (National Reply Date); PG admits confirm within four to six weeks of the offer.
  • I-20 request: Triggered after the applicant confirms attendance and submits financial documentation to Purdue’s International Students and Scholars office.
  • Deferrals: Undergraduate offers can be deferred by one year with a written request; graduate deferrals are department discretionary.

Insider note: Purdue’s I-20 turnaround is typically two to three weeks after the confirmation of attendance and financial-proof upload. Indian admits who target August 2027 arrival should confirm by early May to secure a visa slot before peak summer demand.

Purdue University Documents Required for Indian Students

Purdue accepts a defined document set through the Common App (UG) and the Graduate School portal (PG). Indian applicants should keep certified copies ready before opening the application.

  • Valid Indian passport: Bio-data page with at least six months’ validity past intended arrival.
  • Official academic transcripts: Class X, Class XII (UG), and Bachelor’s/Master’s marksheets and degree certificate (PG), with English translation.
  • Academic Statement of Purpose: Up to two pages for PG applicants, tailored per programme.
  • Personal History Statement: Required for most PG programmes.
  • Three letters of recommendation: Submitted directly through the portal by academic or professional referees.
  • English test score report: IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, or Duolingo English Test.
  • Standardised test scores: GRE, GMAT, or SAT/ACT where the target programme requires them.
  • Financial documentation: Bank statements or scholarship letters proving one year of tuition plus living costs, submitted after admission for I-20 issuance.
  • Passport-size photograph: Recent, per US embassy specification.
  • CV or resume: Highlighting research projects, internships, and technical skills for PG and MBA applicants.

Purdue University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students

Purdue West Lafayette’s institutional acceptance rate sits close to 50 percent across recent cycles, with sharper selectivity in high-demand majors and colleges. See the full year-by-year acceptance rate trends for Indian-cohort context.

Purdue Program Level Selectivity

Undergraduate Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, and First-Year Engineering direct-admit tracks admit closer to 20 to 30 percent of applicants; liberal arts and agriculture admit closer to 65 to 75 percent. Postgraduate admits in STEM disciplines from Indian applicant pools trend competitive because Purdue draws large volumes from top NITs and IITs.

How to Position an Indian Application

A strong Purdue application from India combines Class XII (or Bachelor’s) percentile evidence, quantitative test proof (SAT, GRE, or GMAT when relevant), and demonstrable project or research output. First-Year Engineering acts as the pooled entry route where major selection is decided later, so weaker direct-admit profiles can still enter through it.

Insider note: Purdue’s Boilermaker Bridge and cohort-specific research mentorships have historically absorbed Indian FYE admits who could not clear the direct-admit CS bar; treat FYE as a valid Plan B and target CS as a Plan A.

USA F-1 Student Visa Process for Purdue Applicants

Indian admits to Purdue apply for the F-1 student visa. Purdue’s International Students and Scholars office issues the Form I-20 after the applicant confirms attendance and uploads financial proof. Following I-20 receipt, applicants pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of USD 350 (INR 33,075), complete the DS-160, pay the visa fee of USD 185 (INR 17,483), and book an interview slot at a US consulate in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, or Hyderabad. See the full US F-1 student visa guide for interview prep detail.

At the interview, Indian applicants carry the I-20, admit letter, passport, DS-160 confirmation, SEVIS receipt, financial evidence for one academic year, and academic transcripts. After arrival at West Lafayette, students must complete the mandatory International Students and Scholars check-in within the deadline printed on the I-20.

2026 update: US consular slot demand from India peaks between May and July for Fall arrivals. Purdue’s Indian admits should book the earliest available slot on the OFC and consular calendar the same week the I-20 arrives to avoid a Fall 2027 delay.

Tips and Application Checklist for Purdue University

The tips and steps below are drawn from patterns observed with Indian applicants to Purdue across recent Fall and Spring cycles. Use them alongside your target department’s stated requirements.

  • Sequence the platform first: Open the Common App or Graduate School portal at least eight weeks before your deadline to allow recommenders time to draft letters.
  • Book IELTS or TOEFL early: Aim for a test sitting at least 10 weeks before the deadline to leave room for a retake if any sub-score misses.
  • Request WES or ECE evaluation: Purdue graduate departments accept course-by-course evaluations from WES or ECE; order them at least six weeks in advance.
  • Name faculty in the SoP: For PG and PhD applicants, cite two or three Purdue faculty whose recent work aligns with your research direction.
  • Prepare financial documents in July or August: Bank statements dated within three months of I-20 issuance carry more weight at the visa interview.
  • Confirm attendance and pay the enrolment deposit early: Trigger the I-20 pipeline immediately to avoid the peak summer visa queue.
  • Attend the Purdue India virtual info session: Held twice each cycle by the Purdue admissions team, useful for last-mile clarification on documents.

The tips and application steps above form the operational checklist Indian applicants can carry from the day of registration on the portal to the day of arrival in West Lafayette. Purdue Boilermaker Indian networks on WhatsApp and Reddit offer real-time peer support for the visa slot and housing steps.

Purdue admissions for Indian students centre on the Fall 2027 primary intake with the Common Application and Purdue Graduate School portal as the two live channels. The IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 80 floor, the USD 75 application fee, and the STEM OPT eligibility together make Purdue one of the most tractable US targets for high-performing Indian STEM candidates this cycle.

  • I did not get any scholarship, but my juniors got International Scholarship around 5000$, on average 3-5 international students will get scholarships. If students get international scholarship those students has to do service in the college with international students cell. Few of my friends got GA and received tuition fee waiver.
  • One guy got GA in Center for language lab so he paid only 6000$ throughout his master's only for health insurance. One of my friend got GA in Computer Science Department and he also done the same as the guy did above but he has to do Thesis and he did.

Scholarship

  • There is no such particular scholarship available for the course but there are multiple scholarships available overall for the students, which are available on the website.
  • One can have an assistantship like graduate help or be a TA (teaching assistantship) or RA (research assistantship) and can also be a grader.
  • TA, RA, and GA get fee remissions up to 90% of the fees each semester. I was able to get TA in the first semester itself, but one needs to try really hard because there are a lot of candidates. I applied for 120 applications and got 3 interviews for the TA and grader positions, and I was able to grab one.

Overview

I chose this initially for the nursing program but changed my mind. I knew this college was a great school in general, especially well-known for engineering. I decided to stick to the psychology program since it was most interesting to me. I definitely think that the campus is very diverse and that there are a lot of opportunities for students to really find what they are in college for. There are many avenues that students can connect with other students on and several resources that are typically free of charge.
