The University of Texas at Arlington Eligibility for Indian Students
UTA holds one institution-wide English floor and grade floor; individual departments layer on subject prerequisites (Mathematics, Physics, coding background) on top. Below is the base bar an Indian applicant must clear before program-specific screening begins. Paperwork like transcripts, SOP, and LORs is covered separately in the Documents section.
- UG general entry: Class XII with 65 percent or higher; a 3.25 GPA (~78 percent) or higher is guaranteed-admission territory.
- UG standardised tests: SAT and ACT are test-optional; strong scores can unlock merit scholarships but are not required.
- PG general entry: A four-year Bachelor’s degree with 3.0/4.0 GPA (roughly 60 percent Indian equivalent). Three-year Bachelor’s degrees are not accepted for CSE master’s; some non-engineering departments may consider three-year degrees case-by-case.
- PG standardised tests: GRE requirement is set by department. Engineering master’s applicants with a CS/related Bachelor’s at 3.2 GPA from an ABET-accredited or recognised university can request a GRE waiver.

UT Arlington MBA Admissions and GMAT Policy
The College of Business MBA at UTA runs a Fall-primary intake with a 15 March 2027 priority deadline for Fall 2027 and 15 October 2026 for Spring 2027. The application fee is $90 (₹8,577), submitted via ApplyUTA. GMAT/GRE are technically optional for admission, but a competitive quantitative score continues to help with scholarship consideration and finance-track admits.
The University of Texas at Arlington MBA Formats and Work Experience
UTA offers three MBA formats — full-time on-campus, professional/part-time, and Online MBA. Full-time on-campus MBA takes about 2 years and accepts recent graduates without mandatory work experience. Professional MBA and Online MBA both expect 2 or more years of full-time work experience. Executive-format specifics vary by cohort year.
UTA MBA GMAT and GRE Waivers
The MBA admissions committee grants GMAT/GRE waivers case-by-case, most commonly for applicants who hold a Bachelor’s with a 3.0+ GPA plus significant post-degree work experience, or a graduate degree in a quantitative discipline. Waivers are not automatic — you must formally request one during the application.
The University of Texas at Arlington Application Process
The steps below are the standard sequence for Indian applicants; timing across steps is what separates on-time admits from visa-window casualties.
- Pick your portal. First-year UG applicants use the Common App (2026-2027 cycle opened 1 August 2026) or ApplyTexas. Graduate and PhD applicants use ApplyUTA at connect.uta.edu/apply/.
- Create profile and add UTA. Enter academic history, intended program, and intake term (Fall 2027 for the primary cycle).
- Upload transcripts. All Indian transcripts must be routed through Foreign Credentials Service of America (FCSA) for course-by-course evaluation. FCSA charges $90 (₹8,577), separate from the UTA application fee.
- Submit English proficiency scores. IELTS, TOEFL iBT, or Duolingo scores must be sent directly by the testing service; student score reports are not accepted.
- Attach SOP, LORs, and resume. Program-specific requirements (writing sample, portfolio, research statement) are listed on each department page.
- Pay the application fee of $75 (₹7,148) for UG on Common App or ApplyTexas, or $90 (₹8,577) for PG/PhD on ApplyUTA.
- Track your file via the MyMav student portal. Decision emails typically arrive within 3 to 5 weeks of a complete file.
- Complete financial documentation. After an admit, submit the Financial Statement Form with bank statements covering the first year to trigger I-20 issuance for the F-1 visa.
Before you apply: Start the FCSA transcript evaluation 6 to 8 weeks before the priority deadline. Missing FCSA turnaround is the single most common reason Indian graduate applications slip from priority to late review.

UTA Acceptance Rate for Indian Students
UTA does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party estimates from Fall first-year admit patterns put the overall rate at around 81 percent, which places UTA among the more accessible R1 (Very High Research Activity) US universities for Indian applicants. Selectivity is not uniform across programs — the tables below hold at the institutional level, but engineering master’s admits skew tighter due to volume of Indian applications.
The University of Texas at Arlington Program-Level Selectivity
MS Computer Science, MS Data Science, and MS Electrical Engineering see the heaviest Indian applicant volume, and their effective admit rates sit noticeably below the 81 percent institutional estimate. Nursing, Social Work, and MBA cohorts run tighter still due to accreditation-driven cohort caps. Business Administration and general MPA cohorts remain relatively open, with strong GPAs and clear SOPs typically enough.
Indian student feedback captured in Indian student reviews highlights the College of Engineering’s TA/RA availability and the DFW metroplex internship pipeline as the two decision-relevant strengths.
The University of Texas at Arlington remains one of the most accessible R1 research universities in Texas for Indian applicants, with a Fall 2027 primary cycle now open. Meeting priority deadlines, pairing FCSA evaluation with early IELTS booking, and confirming advisor conversations before PhD submission are the three moves that most reliably convert admits into on-time enrolments.
The University of Texas at Arlington Admissions: Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. Is a three-year Indian Bachelor’s accepted at UTA for master’s admission?
Ans. The Computer Science and Engineering department explicitly does not accept three-year Bachelor’s degrees for its master’s programs. Some non-engineering departments may consider three-year degrees case-by-case, and applicants with a three-year Bachelor’s plus a Master’s from India are typically fine across departments. Confirm with your target department before applying.
Ques. Can I get an IELTS waiver at UTA?
Ans. Waivers are decided by the department, not central admissions. Applicants who completed their Bachelor’s or master’s entirely in English at a recognised university can submit a signed medium-of-instruction letter from their registrar. Do not skip the English test until you have written waiver confirmation from your target department.
Ques. Is GRE required for MS admission at UTA?
Ans. The GRE policy is set by each department. The Computer Science and Engineering department allows GRE waivers for applicants with a Bachelor’s in CS or related field from an ABET-accredited or recognised university, provided the GPA is 3.2 or higher. Non-engineering departments vary; check the target department page.
Ques. What is the acceptance rate at UTA for Indian students?
Ans. UTA does not publish an official acceptance rate. Third-party estimates put the overall Fall first-year admit rate at around 81 percent, but program-level rates for popular MS Computer Science, MS Data Science, and MS Electrical Engineering routes run lower due to Indian applicant volume.
Ques. When do UTA international decisions come out?
Ans. Once a file is complete (transcripts, English scores, FCSA evaluation, and any department-required documents), UTA officially states that reviews take 3 to 5 weeks. Departments with heavy volume such as MS Computer Science may take slightly longer, so priority-date submission remains the safest lane.

- The community culture is really large and engaging. Different student clubs and communities help us grow and engage us in inter as well as intra cultural activities. This university bridges the gap between international horizons for students from different countries.
- One of the best thing about this university is its flexibility for us choosing not only one but two specialization of our domain. So we will be graduating with two major specialization which expands our wide prospects and career stretch.
- One of my personal favorite part of this university is its study reserves, study places and the resources they provide in terms for us to ace the exams and transition through semester smoothly.
Dislikes
- Sometimes the documentation works for example scheduling meeting with grad advisor is usually delayed and we need to step ahead of time to get our schedules and timeline fit .
- Being a GRA, i feel like there has been constant funding constraints for RA/TA and we need to be highly competitive to fit in the criteria which is slowly declining in terms of fundings.
- You need to be a quick early bird during the class registration day. It can be stressful and you might not get the desired class under desired professor as they get filled up really quickly
Scholarship
- During my 3rd sem/second year of my master's in cs, I got Graduate Research Assistant at UTA libraries-- received In-state tuition fees. Otherwise, getting a scholarship as an international student is quite difficult. I had a 30-credit MS non-thesis course instead of 36.
- If you get instate you get 60% reimbursement of your fees.
- All those who received scholarships were either GTA/GRA. One can check their scholarship eligibility criteria and all the available scholarships based on the course, the major and the international criteria on:https://uta.scholarships.ngwebsolutions.com/CMXAdmin/Cmx_Content.aspx?cpId=1682
