An official circular by JNU Inter-Hostel Administration has been released, asking the students in the university hostels to return home. It has been pointed out by the university officials that there is another month for the university to reopen as per the new guidelines and altered academic calendar.
The first circular for lockdown was issued in the month of March 2020. Some of the students had left for their hometowns earlier itself.
The lockdown has been further extended by the central government, until May 31, 2020. The interstate transportation has begun with special trains in place for the people stranded in the cities to head back to their hometowns.
Students have been asked to return to hometowns and come back only once the university activities resume. However students believe that travelling to hometowns at this point will cause a huge health risk. Students also stated that getting a reservation in special trains is uncertain. They also questioned as to whether the university wishes to make the students travel twice in a month during such a pandemic situation.
Since the lockdown was announced in March 2020, the university was conducting online classes for the students. If the situation normalizes, the university is expected to start the academic session from June 25, 2020.
