IIM Calcutta PI Shortlist Composite Score 2027 is the 85-point score used to pick candidates for the WAT-PI round. It applies to the MBA Batch 2027-29, which CAT 2026 candidates will join. In the last cycle, the institute released its PI shortlist on January 8, 2026 for the 2026-28 batch.

The composite score is built from four things only. CAT score carries 56 points, Class 12 marks carry 15 points, and Class 10 marks carry 10 points. Female and transgender candidates get 4 diversity points. Bachelor's degree marks and work experience carry zero points at this stage.

Clearing the Stage 1 percentile gate comes first. General category candidates need at least 85 percentile overall in CAT 2026. Only candidates who cross that gate get a composite score at all. The policy is published at iimcal.ac.in.

IIM Calcutta PI Shortlist Composite Score 2027: CAT Cutoff, Weightage & Calculation

IIM Calcutta PI Shortlist Composite Score 2027 Weightage

The shortlisting score runs on a total of 85 points, not 100. The table below shows the breakup as per the last published admission policy. The same weights are expected to continue for the 2027-29 batch.

Component Points How Points Are Awarded
CAT 2026 Score 56 (Candidate score divided by maximum score) multiplied by 56
Class 12 Marks 15 Slab-wise, as per the marks table
Class 10 Marks 10 Slab-wise, as per the marks table
Gender Diversity 4 Female and transgender candidates only

One detail trips up most aspirants. The CAT component uses the scaled score, not the percentile. So two candidates at 99 percentile can end up with different CAT points.

IIM Calcutta Composite Score 2027 Class 10 and Class 12 Points

Board marks are converted into points in fixed slabs. Anything below 60 percent earns zero. The aggregate of all subjects on the mark sheet is used, not the best five.

Marks Range Class 12 Points Class 10 Points
80 percent and above 15 10
75 to below 80 percent 12 8
70 to below 75 percent 9 6
65 to below 70 percent 6 4
60 to below 65 percent 3 2
Below 60 percent 0 0

Boards that award CGPA are converted by a simple rule. The CGPA is divided by the maximum CGPA, then multiplied by 100.

How to Calculate the IIM Calcutta Composite Score 2027?

The calculation takes three steps. First, the CAT scaled score is turned into a fraction of the maximum score. That fraction is multiplied by 56. Then the board slabs and the diversity point are added.

Two worked examples show how the same CAT performance can split.

Component Candidate A (Male) Candidate B (Female)
CAT score as share of maximum 65 percent 58 percent
CAT points (out of 56) 36.40 32.48
Class 12 marks and points 76 percent, 12 points 63 percent, 3 points
Class 10 marks and points 88 percent, 10 points 72 percent, 6 points

Candidate A scores no diversity points. The total comes to 58.40 out of 85. Candidate B adds 4 diversity points and reaches 45.48.

Example: Candidate B loses 12 points on Class 12 alone. Recovering that needs roughly 21 percent more of the maximum CAT score. That is why board marks decide so many calls at this institute.

IIM Calcutta PI Shortlist Composite Score Cutoff Trend

The calling cutoff for 2027 is fixed after the CAT 2026 result. Figures from past cycles give a working target. As per previous trends, the General category cutoff has moved in the 51 to 57 band.

Category Batch 2025-27 Batch 2024-26 Batch 2023-25
General 56.105 51.300 52.743
EWS 51.010 46.950 48.141
NC-OBC 48.735 44.775 45.400
SC 42.305 38.714 39.003
ST 36.508 33.915 33.302

A General candidate should treat 56 as the safe target for 2027. Candidates with 80 percent plus in both boards start at 25 points. They need about 31 of the 56 CAT points to clear that mark.

How Many Candidates Get an IIM Calcutta PI Call?

The shortlist is drawn separately in each category. Roughly 2,100 to 2,200 candidates are called in total. General category calls stay near half a percent of CAT form filers.

Category Shortlisted for Batch 2025-27 Shortlisted for Batch 2024-26
General 956 931
SC 459 430
NC-OBC 437 417
ST 248 230
EWS 70 62

What Does Not Count in the IIM Calcutta PI Shortlist?

Three things students expect to help carry no weight at this stage. Graduation marks are one of them. The shortlist composite has no component for bachelor's degree performance.

Work experience is the second. It carries 8 points, but only in the final selection score. Academic diversity is the third, worth 6 points at the final stage alone.

This makes the shortlist unusually CAT-heavy. Students consistently describe IIM Calcutta as the friendlier call for weak graduation records. The trade-off is that Class 10 and Class 12 marks cannot be offset by anything except CAT.

IIM Calcutta PI Shortlist Composite Score 2027 FAQs

Ques. Does the composite score use CAT percentile or CAT score?

Ans. It uses the CAT scaled score, not the percentile. The score is divided by the maximum score and multiplied by 56.

Ques. Is the composite score cutoff the same for every category?

Ans. No. A separate cutoff is fixed in each category. Reserved category cutoffs run well below the General cutoff.

Ques. Does work experience help in getting an IIM Calcutta PI call?

Ans. No. Work experience carries no points in the shortlist composite. It is worth 8 points in the final selection score only.

Ques. Can a candidate with below 60 percent in Class 12 still get a call?

Ans. Yes, but the candidate starts with zero of the 15 Class 12 points. A very high CAT scaled score is needed to cover the gap.

Ques. What CAT percentile is needed for an IIM Calcutta call in 2027?

Ans. General category calls usually go above 99 percentile. Candidates with board marks in the 70s should target 99.7 percentile or higher, as per previous trends.

Ques. Do candidates need a separate application for IIM Calcutta?

Ans. The institute must be selected inside the CAT 2026 form. Shortlisted candidates then fill a separate PI application form with mark sheets.

Ques. Does the composite score decide the final admission offer?

Ans. No. A fresh 100-point score is built after WAT-PI. It gives 48 points to the interview and 30 to CAT.

Ques. How are marks counted for boards that award grades?

Ans. The CGPA is divided by the maximum CGPA and multiplied by 100. Aggregate marks of all subjects on the mark sheet are used.
