IMU CET 2027 Age Limit

The age limit for IMU CET 2027 applies to all undergraduate programmes. You must be at least 17 years old at the time of admission. The upper age limit varies by gender and category. IMU calculates your age as on August 1, 2027. You must carry your Class 10 certificate or birth certificate as proof of date of birth at the time of admission. Postgraduate programmes such as MBA, M.Tech, M.Sc, and MCA have no upper age limit.

IMU CET sets separate age limits for male and female candidates. Female candidates get a 2-year relaxation over the male upper age limit in each category.

IMU CET 2027 Category-wise Age Limit

Category Minimum Age Maximum Age (Male) Maximum Age (Female)
General 17 years 25 years 27 years
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) 17 years 28 years 30 years
SC 17 years 30 years 32 years
ST 17 years 30 years 32 years

Age is calculated as on August 1, 2027 for the 2027 cycle. A male general category candidate born before August 1, 2002 is not eligible for any UG programme through IMU CET 2027. A female SC candidate born on or after August 1, 1995 is eligible. OBC candidates must produce a non-creamy layer certificate issued by a competent authority; an OBC certificate without the non-creamy layer status is not accepted for the age relaxation.

IMU CET 2027 Educational Qualification

For Undergraduate Programmes

You must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognized board. For B.Tech Marine Engineering, DNS, B.Sc Nautical Science, B.Sc Ship Building and Repair, and B.Tech Naval Architecture, you must have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. English must be one of your Class 12 subjects and you must have passed it. You must also be unmarried at the time of admission to most UG seagoing programmes; IMU confirms this condition each year in the prospectus.

If you are appearing in Class 12 in 2027, you can apply for IMU CET 2027. Your admission is confirmed only after you submit the final mark sheet at the time of joining and meet the minimum marks condition. A compartment or backlog in any subject makes you ineligible until you clear it.

For BBA Port and Shipping Management, you need Class 12 in any stream with at least 50% aggregate marks. PCM is not required for BBA.

For Postgraduate Programmes

For MBA Port and Shipping Management, you need a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university. For M.Tech Marine Engineering and Management, you need a B.Tech or B.E. degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related branch. For M.Sc Maritime Studies, you need a B.Sc in a relevant science subject. For MCA, you need a graduation degree and must have studied Mathematics at Class 12 level or at graduation level.

IMU CET 2027 Minimum Marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics

For B.Tech Marine Engineering, DNS, B.Sc Nautical Science, B.Sc Ship Building and Repair, and B.Tech Naval Architecture, the minimum marks requirement is based on your aggregate percentage in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics only, not your overall Class 12 percentage. A student who scores 65% overall but only 56% in PCM combined does not meet the eligibility for B.Tech Marine Engineering. The marks cut-off also varies by category.

IMU CET 2027 Course-wise and Category-wise Minimum PCM Marks

Programme General OBC (NCL) SC / ST PwD
B.Tech Marine Engineering 60% 55% 55% 55%
DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science) 60% 55% 55% 55%
B.Sc Nautical Science 60% 55% 55% 55%
B.Sc Ship Building and Repair 60% 55% 55% 55%
B.Tech Naval Architecture and Ship Building 60% 55% 55% 55%

IMU gives a 5% relaxation on the PCM aggregate to SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), and PwD candidates. This relaxation does not apply to English marks. The English marks condition is the same for all categories.

IMU CET 2027 English Marks Requirement

You must have scored at least 50% marks in English in either your Class 10 or your Class 12 examination. This condition is separate from the PCM marks requirement. You do not need to score 50% in both; passing the condition in either Class 10 or Class 12 is enough. IMU checks this at the time of admission when you submit your mark sheets.

There is no category relaxation on the English marks requirement. Even if you belong to SC, ST, OBC or PwD category, you must score at least 50% in English in Class 10 or Class 12. This is one of the firm conditions across all UG seagoing programmes.

IMU CET 2027 Medical Fitness Requirements

All candidates admitted to seagoing programmes at IMU must meet the medical fitness standards of the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). Seagoing programmes include B.Tech Marine Engineering, DNS, B.Sc Nautical Science, and B.Sc Ship Building and Repair. You do not need to submit a medical certificate with your IMU CET application. The DGS medical examination takes place after you receive the admission offer. If you fail the medical examination after paying the fees, your admission is cancelled and the fees are not refunded. You are strongly advised to get a preliminary check from a DGS-approved doctor before you pay the admission fees.

For non-seagoing programmes such as BBA, MBA, M.Tech, M.Sc, and MCA, you must submit a physical fitness certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner at the time of joining. The DGS medical standard does not apply to these programmes.

Key Medical Conditions for IMU CET 2027 Seagoing Programmes

Parameter Requirement
Distance vision (corrected) Specific standard per DGS; checked by DGS-approved doctor
Color vision Checked using Ishihara chart; normal color vision needed for deck programmes (DNS, B.Sc NS)
Night blindness Not permitted for any seagoing programme
Eye conditions No squint, no morbid condition of the eyelid or eye
Hearing Normal hearing required; no significant hearing loss
Epilepsy Not permitted; a history of epilepsy disqualifies you from seagoing programmes
Diabetes (insulin-dependent) Not permitted for seagoing programmes
Physical deformity No physical condition that prevents you from performing shipboard duties

Color vision rules differ by programme. Deck officer programmes (DNS, B.Sc Nautical Science) require normal color vision because deck officers must identify navigation lights and signal colors at sea. For B.Tech Marine Engineering, a candidate with partial color deficiency may be able to get an ENG1 medical certificate with operational restrictions. The final decision rests with the DGS-approved examining doctor.

IMU CET 2027 Domicile and Nationality Requirements

Indian Maritime University is a central university. There are no domicile restrictions for any IMU programme. You can apply for any course at any IMU campus regardless of which state you live in or which state board you appeared in. You must be an Indian national to apply. NRI candidates and foreign nationals may apply for seats under the NRI or management quota at select campuses; the details appear in the official IMU CET 2027 prospectus.

You must submit proof of Indian nationality at the time of admission. An Aadhaar card, passport, or Class 10 certificate from a recognized Indian board is accepted as valid proof.
