IPMAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria set the conditions for admission to IIM Indore’s five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM). Three things decide whether you can apply: your age as on July 31, 2027, your aggregate percentage in Class 12, and whether English is one of your Class 12 subjects. General, EWS, and OBC-NCL candidates must be not older than 20 years and must have at least 60% aggregate in Class 12. SC, ST, and PwD candidates get a higher age cap of 22 years and a lower marks threshold of 55%. There is no gap year restriction: students who passed Class 12 in earlier years can apply as long as they are within the age limit.
- IPMAT 2027 (for the 2027-28 batch): Based on the IPMAT 2026 cycle, registration for IPMAT 2027 is expected from January to March 2027 (Tentative) and the exam is expected in May 2027 (Tentative). IIM Indore will release the official IPMAT 2027 prospectus with confirmed eligibility conditions, age dates, and percentage thresholds. Monitor iimidr.ac.in for the official notification.
- Age is calculated as on July 31, 2027 for all categories.
- General, EWS, and OBC-NCL candidates must be born on or after August 1, 2007 (not more than 20 years as on July 31, 2027).
- SC, ST, and PwD candidates must be born on or after August 1, 2005 (not more than 22 years as on July 31, 2027).
- Class 12 minimum aggregate: 60% for General, EWS, and OBC-NCL; 55% for SC, ST, and PwD.
- English must be one of the subjects in your Class 12 mark sheet from any recognised board.
- Mathematics is not mandatory as a Class 12 subject. Students from Arts and Commerce streams without Maths are eligible.
- Students appearing in Class 12 in 2027 can apply and take the test; their admission is provisional until they submit the final mark sheet.
- Students who passed Class 12 in earlier years can apply with no gap year restriction, as long as they are within the age limit.
- Only Indian nationals are eligible. OCI cardholders without Indian citizenship cannot apply.

IPMAT 2027 Age Limit by Category
IIM Indore sets a maximum age limit for IPM admission. There is no minimum age stated in the prospectus, but because applicants must have passed or be appearing in Class 12, most candidates are between 17 and 22 years old. Age is calculated as on July 31 of the year of admission. SC, ST, and PwD candidates get a 2-year relaxation on the upper limit only; the lower end is not restricted for any category.
IPMAT 2027 Age Eligibility Table
Check your date of birth against your category in the table below. If you were born before the date shown in the "Born on or after" column, you exceed the maximum age for your category and you are not eligible for IPMAT 2027.
| Category | Maximum Age as on July 31, 2027 | Born on or After (Lower DOB Limit) |
|---|---|---|
| General | 20 years | August 1, 2007 |
| EWS (Economically Weaker Section) | 20 years | August 1, 2007 |
| OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) | 20 years | August 1, 2007 |
| SC (Scheduled Caste) | 22 years 2 years upper limit relaxation |
August 1, 2005 |
| ST (Scheduled Tribe) | 22 years 2 years upper limit relaxation |
August 1, 2005 |
| PwD (Persons with Disabilities) | 22 years 2 years upper limit relaxation |
August 1, 2005 |
Note: A candidate born exactly on July 31, 2007 turns 20 on July 31, 2027 and meets the maximum age condition for General, EWS, and OBC-NCL. A candidate born on August 1, 2006 would be 20 years and 11 months on July 31, 2027, which is over 20, and would not be eligible. The date July 31, 2027 is both the reference date and the last acceptable age-check date.
How IIM Indore Calculates Age for IPMAT 2027
IIM Indore counts completed years from the date of birth to July 31, 2027. A candidate is "20 years old" on July 31, 2027 if their birthday falls on July 31, 2007 (the maximum allowed for General/EWS/OBC). A candidate whose birthday falls on August 1, 2007 would be 19 years and 364 days on July 31, 2027 and is well within the limit. Age is computed from the date of birth recorded in the Class 10 or Class 12 board certificate; a discrepancy between certificates should be resolved before applying.
Important: Age figures in this article are based on IIM Indore’s established pattern and are tentative for 2027 until the official IPMAT 2027 prospectus is released. Confirm the exact reference date from the official notification before submitting your application.
IPMAT 2027 Class 12 Marks Requirement
IIM Indore requires a minimum aggregate percentage in Class 12 (Standard XII) or an equivalent qualifying examination from any recognised board. The aggregate is calculated across all subjects in the final Class 12 mark sheet. There is no separate minimum for individual subjects, other than the English subject condition described in the next section. Students who have not yet appeared for Class 12 boards can apply provisionally and must confirm their percentage once the result is declared.
IPMAT 2027 Minimum Aggregate by Category
| Category | Minimum Aggregate in Class 12 (or Equivalent) |
|---|---|
| General | 60% |
| EWS (Economically Weaker Section) | 60% |
| OBC-NCL (Non-Creamy Layer) | 60% |
| SC (Scheduled Caste) | 55% |
| ST (Scheduled Tribe) | 55% |
| PwD (Persons with Disabilities) | 55% |
How the Class 12 Aggregate is Calculated
- The aggregate is total marks scored divided by total marks available, expressed as a percentage, across all subjects listed in the official Class 12 mark sheet.
- If your board awards grades instead of marks, IIM Indore uses a conversion formula published in the official IPMAT prospectus. Do not use an unofficial conversion table for self-assessment.
- Some boards allow a sixth subject that can replace the lowest-scoring compulsory subject in the aggregate. Whether IIM Indore includes or excludes the optional sixth subject in the aggregate calculation is stated in the official prospectus each year.
- Rounding is not applied: a score of 59.9% does not meet the 60% threshold. IIM Indore will not round up the percentage to grant eligibility.
- If you have appeared for Class 12 from an international board (IB, Cambridge A-Level, or similar), your qualification is accepted if the board is recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). IIM Indore will advise on the percentage equivalent.
Important: Provisional admission at any stage will be cancelled if your final Class 12 aggregate falls below the required percentage for your category. Submit your original mark sheet by the deadline IIM Indore specifies in the offer letter, typically in July or August 2027.
Is There a Minimum in Class 10?
IIM Indore does not set a minimum percentage in Class 10 for IPMAT eligibility. Only the Class 12 aggregate (and the English subject condition) applies. A student with a low Class 10 score is still eligible for IPMAT 2027 if they meet the Class 12 percentage, age, and subject conditions.
IPMAT 2027 Subject Requirements for Class 12
IIM Indore requires that English is one of the subjects you studied in Class 12. This is the only subject-level condition for IPMAT 2027 eligibility. Your Class 12 mark sheet must list English as a subject. Mathematics is not a mandatory subject; students from Arts and Commerce streams without Mathematics can apply and are fully eligible, provided they meet the age and marks conditions.
English as a Required Subject
| Situation | Eligible for IPMAT 2027? |
|---|---|
| English listed as a subject in Class 12 mark sheet | Yes (meets the subject condition) |
| English not listed in Class 12 (e.g., only a regional language studied) | No (subject condition not met) |
| English studied in Class 11 but not Class 12 | No (Class 12 mark sheet must show English) |
| International board certificate with an English subject listed | Yes, if the board is recognised by AIU |
| Board combines two languages into one paper; English is part of it | Confirm with IIM Indore Admissions before applying |
Is Mathematics Required for IPMAT 2027?
Mathematics is not a mandatory subject in Class 12 for IPMAT 2027 eligibility at IIM Indore. The IPMAT test paper contains a Quantitative Ability (QA) section, but that does not mean you must have studied Mathematics in Class 12. Students from Arts streams (without Mathematics) and Commerce streams (with Business Mathematics or without Mathematics) are eligible to apply. IIM Indore has consistently not listed Mathematics as a compulsory Class 12 subject in its IPM admission criteria.
Note: While Mathematics is not required for eligibility, students who have not studied Mathematics at the Class 11 or Class 12 level may need to spend more time preparing for the Quantitative Ability section of IPMAT. The QA section tests topics from Class 11 and Class 12 Mathematics. Not having Maths does not disqualify you, but it does affect preparation effort.
IPMAT 2027 Appearing Candidates and Gap Year Rules
IPMAT 2027 accepts applications from students currently appearing in Class 12 final examinations and from those who have already passed Class 12 in any earlier year. IIM Indore does not set a maximum number of years since passing Class 12. A student who passed Class 12 in 2022 and is applying in 2027 is eligible as long as they are within the age limit for their category on July 31, 2027 and meet the Class 12 percentage condition.
Rules for Students Appearing in Class 12 in 2027
- Students sitting for Class 12 final exams (CBSE, state boards, ISC, or equivalent) in February, March, or April 2027 can apply for IPMAT 2027 and appear for the test.
- If selected and offered admission, the student’s place is provisional. It is confirmed only after the original Class 12 mark sheet is submitted and the aggregate is verified to meet the minimum threshold.
- IIM Indore sets a deadline (typically in July or August 2027) by which the mark sheet must be submitted. Missing this deadline can result in the seat being withdrawn.
- A result with a compartment or supplementary paper does not count as a final pass. The student must clear all subjects before the document verification date for the seat to be confirmed.
- A student whose Class 12 result is withheld by the board for any reason must resolve the issue and produce a clean mark sheet by IIM Indore’s deadline.
Gap Year Rules for IPMAT 2027
| Situation | Eligible for IPMAT 2027? |
|---|---|
| Passed Class 12 in 2026 or 2025, within age limit | Yes, fully eligible |
| Passed Class 12 in 2024 or earlier, within age limit | Yes, fully eligible. No gap year restriction. |
| Took a year off after Class 12, within age limit | Yes. The reason for the gap is not a factor in eligibility. |
| Passed Class 12 in 2024 or earlier but now over the age cap | Not eligible (age cap exceeded) |
| Appearing in Class 12 in 2027 | Provisionally eligible |
Important: The age limit is the binding constraint for students who passed Class 12 in earlier years. If you passed in 2023 and are in the General/OBC/EWS category, you must have been born on or after August 1, 2007, which means you would have been no older than 15 or 16 when you passed Class 12 in 2023. In practice, most students who passed Class 12 more than two years before 2027 will be over the 20-year cap. Check your birth date carefully before applying.
IPMAT Attempt Limit
IIM Indore does not set a maximum number of times a student can appear for IPMAT. There is no restriction on how many years in a row you can take the test. You can attempt IPMAT every year as long as you are within the age limit and meet the Class 12 marks condition. A student who attempted IPMAT in 2026 and did not get through can apply again in 2027 if still within the age cap.
IPMAT 2027 Nationality and Other Eligibility Conditions
IPMAT 2027 is open to Indian nationals only. Domicile or home state is not a condition: students from any state or union territory in India compete on a single all-India merit list. There is no state-wise quota in IIM Indore’s IPM programme. The seat matrix at IIM Indore follows Central Government reservation norms across all-India candidates.
Nationality Rules
- Only Indian nationals can apply for IPMAT 2027 and seek admission to IIM Indore IPM.
- OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) cardholders who do not hold Indian citizenship are not eligible.
- Students who hold Indian citizenship and are studying abroad (CBSE overseas centres, international schools) are eligible.
- A student born outside India to Indian parents is eligible if they hold Indian citizenship.
- Candidates who hold dual citizenship must surrender the other citizenship before the document verification date to retain their seat.
Category Certificate Requirements
| Category | Certificate Required | Issued By |
|---|---|---|
| SC / ST | Caste certificate in the Government of India format | District Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Officer, or Tehsildar |
| OBC-NCL | OBC Non-Creamy Layer certificate, valid at the time of application | Competent authority as prescribed by the Government of India |
| EWS | Income and Asset certificate for EWS in the prescribed format | Tahsildar, Block Development Officer, or equivalent |
| PwD | Disability certificate from a Government hospital disability board, stating type and percentage of disability | Medical Board at a Government hospital |
Note: Category certificates must be in the candidate’s name, valid at the time of applying, and issued by the competent authority in the Government of India format. An expired OBC-NCL certificate will not be accepted. Carry original certificates to document verification; self-attested photocopies are typically accepted only at the time of application, not at verification.
About IIM Indore IPM
IIM Indore’s Integrated Programme in Management is a five-year programme: three years of a BBA-equivalent foundation phase followed by two years of the full-time MBA. Students who complete all five years receive a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (equivalent to the MBA awarded by IIMs) from IIM Indore. After the three-year foundation phase, students receive a BBA degree from IIM Indore and continue into the MBA phase. IIM Indore started the IPM programme in 2011, making it the first IIM to offer a UG-level management programme.
IPMAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria - Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What is the age limit for IPMAT 2027?
Ans. Age for IPMAT 2027 is calculated as on July 31, 2027. General, EWS, and OBC-NCL candidates must be not older than 20 years, meaning born on or after August 1, 2007. SC, ST, and PwD candidates can be up to 22 years old, meaning born on or after August 1, 2005. These figures are based on IIM Indore’s established pattern and are tentative until the official IPMAT 2027 prospectus is released. There is no minimum age, but applicants must be in or have passed Class 12.
Ques. What is the minimum percentage in Class 12 for IPMAT 2027?
Ans. The minimum aggregate in Class 12 is 60% for General, EWS, and OBC-NCL candidates and 55% for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. The aggregate is calculated across all subjects in the final Class 12 mark sheet. A score of 59.9% does not meet the 60% threshold; IIM Indore does not round up. Students who are appearing in Class 12 in 2027 must ensure their final aggregate meets this threshold when results are declared.
Ques. Do SC and ST candidates get a lower marks requirement for IPMAT 2027?
Ans. Yes. SC and ST candidates need a minimum of 55% aggregate in Class 12, compared to 60% for General, EWS, and OBC-NCL candidates. They also get a 2-year upper age limit relaxation, allowing them to be up to 22 years old as on July 31, 2027. Both the marks relaxation and the age relaxation apply together for eligible SC and ST candidates.
Ques. Is Mathematics mandatory as a subject in Class 12 for IPMAT 2027?
Ans. No. IIM Indore does not require Mathematics as a Class 12 subject for IPM eligibility. Students from Arts and Commerce streams who did not study Mathematics in Class 12 are eligible to apply and take IPMAT 2027. The IPMAT paper does include a Quantitative Ability section, so students without a Maths background will need to prepare that section on their own, but the absence of Maths in Class 12 does not disqualify anyone.
Ques. Is English compulsory as a Class 12 subject for IPMAT 2027?
Ans. Yes. English must be listed as a subject in your Class 12 mark sheet. A student who did not study English in Class 12 does not meet the subject eligibility condition, regardless of their aggregate percentage or IPMAT score. If you studied under a board that groups languages differently, confirm with IIM Indore’s Admissions Office before applying to check whether your certificate satisfies the English subject condition.
Ques. Can I apply for IPMAT 2027 if I am currently appearing in Class 12 boards?
Ans. Yes. Students sitting for Class 12 final examinations in early 2027 can apply for IPMAT 2027 and take the test. If you qualify and receive an offer, the admission will be provisional. You must submit your original Class 12 mark sheet by the deadline IIM Indore specifies (typically July or August 2027). If your final aggregate falls below the required minimum, the provisional offer will be cancelled.
Ques. Is there a gap year restriction for IPMAT 2027?
Ans. No. IIM Indore does not restrict applications based on how many years have passed since you finished Class 12. A student who passed Class 12 in 2024 and spent two years preparing or working can apply for IPMAT 2027, as long as they are within the age limit for their category on July 31, 2027 and meet the Class 12 percentage condition. The age cap is the only time-based constraint.
Ques. How many times can I attempt IPMAT?
Ans. IIM Indore does not set a limit on the number of times you can appear for IPMAT. You can attempt the test every year, as long as you are within the age limit and meet the Class 12 marks condition each year you apply. A student who first appeared in IPMAT 2025 or 2026 and did not secure admission can attempt IPMAT 2027 again, subject to still being within the age cap on July 31, 2027.
Ques. Can a student from the Arts stream without Mathematics apply for IPMAT 2027?
Ans. Yes. Arts stream students without Mathematics are fully eligible for IPMAT 2027, provided they meet the age limit, have at least 60% aggregate in Class 12 (55% for SC/ST/PwD), and have English as a Class 12 subject. The IPMAT test has a Quantitative Ability section, so you will need to prepare those topics independently. Your stream or the absence of Mathematics in Class 12 does not affect your eligibility.
Ques. Can OCI cardholders apply for IPMAT 2027?
Ans. No. OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) cardholders who do not hold Indian citizenship are not eligible for IPMAT 2027. Only Indian nationals can apply. A student born abroad to Indian parents who holds Indian citizenship (not just OCI status) is eligible and can apply in the General or any other appropriate category with valid certificates.
Ques. What happens if my Class 12 aggregate is 59.8% and I am a General category candidate?
Ans. You do not meet the eligibility condition. IIM Indore requires a minimum of 60% aggregate for General, EWS, and OBC-NCL candidates. A score of 59.8% falls below the threshold and you are not eligible to apply under IPMAT 2027 in those categories. IIM Indore does not round up the percentage. If you belong to SC, ST, or PwD, the threshold is 55%, so 59.8% would be above the minimum for those categories.
Ques. Is there a domicile condition for IPMAT 2027?
Ans. No. IIM Indore’s IPM programme has no domicile or home state condition. Students from all states and union territories of India compete on a single all-India merit list. There is no state quota or preference. You can apply regardless of which state you live in or which state board you appeared under, as long as you are an Indian national and meet the age, marks, and subject conditions.
Ques. I passed Class 12 in 2022 and want to apply for IPMAT 2027. Am I eligible?
Ans. You are eligible if you are still within the age limit on July 31, 2027. For General, EWS, and OBC-NCL, you must be born on or after August 1, 2007. A student who passed Class 12 in 2022 was most likely born around 2004 to 2005, which means they would be 22 or 23 years old on July 31, 2027, exceeding the 20-year cap for General/OBC/EWS. For SC, ST, and PwD, the cap is 22 years, so a student born in 2005 and above would still be within the limit. Check your exact birth date against the table in this article.
