University of Western Australia admissions for Indian applicants run on India-specific deadlines that close earlier than the global cohort, and require a recognised Bachelor’s at 60% WAM for most Master’s, or Class XII at the ATAR-equivalent floor (70% for Science, 80% for Commerce) for UG entry, with IELTS 6.5 across the board.
- Next live deadline: Semester 1, 2027 (primary intake) closes 28 December 2026 for Indian applicants.
- Base tuition ranges AUD 38,000 to AUD 53,000 (INR 24.75 to 34.52 Lakhs) per year, with an application fee of AUD 100-150 (INR 6,603-9,771).
- Eligibility: UG floor Class XII at 70%+; PG floor Bachelor’s at 60% WAM; IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0).
- Acceptance rate estimated at 38%, based on Go8 intake patterns; UWA does not publish an official institutional figure.
Popular Indian-student programs include the Master of Data Science, Master of Professional Engineering, and the AACSB-accredited UWA MBA. Indian alumni rate academics and faculty highly across student-review platforms, while flagging Perth’s earlier deadline and per-credit-point fee structure as the two items to plan around. See the University of Western Australia overview for ranking band, campus, and placement context before locking your intake.

UWA’s primary intake for Indian students is Semester 1 (February) – most programs open here. Plan your IELTS, transcripts, and financial proof to land at least six weeks ahead.

University of Western Australia Eligibility for Indian Students
UWA assesses Indian applicants on the academic floor for the chosen course and a separate English-language test floor. The two are independent, and meeting one without the other does not produce an offer. Indian-board English subjects can satisfy the language requirement in some cases (covered below).
- ATAR is a ranking system used in Australia to determine how competitive a student is for university admission.
UWA Academic Eligibility for Indian Applicants
- UG general entry: Class XII at 70% (ATAR 70 equivalent) for Science; 80% for Commerce.
- UG with prerequisites: Mathematics Methods ATAR (Class XII Maths) required for Data Science, IT, Engineering, and Science majors.
- PG taught (most Master’s): Bachelor’s degree at 60% WAM; some programs (Data Science, IT, Engineering) require 65% WAM.
WAM (Weighted Average Mark) is the Australian way of calculating your overall academic performance in a degree.
UWA English Language Requirements for Indian Applicants
Standard minimum across most coursework programs, per the UWA English language requirements page:
- IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall, no band below 6.0.
- TOEFL iBT: 82 overall, with Speaking/Writing 20, Listening/Reading 17.
- PTE Academic: 64 overall, no band below 60.
Higher-standard programs (MBA, Modern Languages, Social Work, Law diplomas) raise the IELTS floor to 7.0 overall with 6.5 per band.
UWA IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
UWA accepts the Class XII English score as proof of English competence in two clearly defined cases. This removes the IELTS requirement entirely for many CBSE and CISCE students who plan.
- CBSE applicants: Minimum grade B2 in English at Class XII.
- CISCE (ICSE/ISC) applicants: Minimum 60% in English at Class XII.
- Prior degree in English-medium country: One year (full-time equivalent) of degree-level study completed within the past two years in Australia, Canada, Ireland, NZ, the UK, or the USA.
State-board applicants and those without the above qualifying English scores must submit an IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo result. The CELT Bridging Course at 70% overall is an alternate pathway for applicants who fall short.
University of Western Australia Postgraduate Programs for Indian Students
UWA postgraduate coursework programs admit Indian applicants on Bachelor’s WAM, prerequisite subjects, and an English-test floor. Base tuition is charged per credit point on the UWA fee calculator, with most international Master’s in the AUD 38,000 to AUD 53,000 per year band (INR 24.75 to 34.52 Lakhs). See the detailed fee breakdown for course-wise figures and indexation.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |

Insider note: Data Science, IT, and Engineering Master’s all require Class XII Mathematics. State-board candidates without core Maths in Class XII are routinely declined here regardless of UG percentage.
University of Western Australia Undergraduate Programs for Indian Students
UWA undergraduate degrees follow a three-year structure with a flexible major + minor model. Most students enrol in a Bachelor of Arts, Commerce, Science, or Biomedical Science and pick a major from 70+ options. |---|---|---|---|
| Bachelor of Commerce | 3 years | Class XII at 80% (ATAR 80) | IELTS 6.5 |

UWA does not offer direct-entry MBBS or LLB for school-leavers. Medicine and Law at UWA are postgraduate pathways that start after a relevant Bachelor’s degree. Indian applicants targeting medicine should start with a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and apply into the Doctor of Medicine after completion.
University of Western Australia MBA Admissions for Indian Students
The UWA MBA is a 12 to 18 month cohort-based program that admits twice a year (January and July intakes) plus an MBA Flexible option (April and August intakes). Indicative international tuition for the full-time MBA is around AUD 53,000 (INR 34.52 Lakhs) per year, set per credit point via the UWA fee calculator. Full course-wise figures live on the UWA MBA fees page.
UWA MBA Eligibility for Indian Applicants
- Full-time MBA: Bachelor’s at 60% WAM; minimum three years professional experience.
- MBA Flexible (part-time): Same academic floor; three years' experience; suits in-career applicants.
- Executive MBA pathway: Bachelor’s plus seven years’ senior management experience, including the no-degree substitution route via demonstrated leadership.
- GMAT/GRE: Not required; applicants are ranked on personal statement, references, and interview.
- English: IELTS 7.0 overall, no band below 6.5 (higher than standard PG).
UWA MBA Interview and Selection
Shortlisted Indian applicants sit a one-on-one online interview focused on leadership potential, career trajectory, and motivation. Interviews are scheduled within four to six weeks of submission. Submit a 1,000-word personal statement, current CV with management responsibility details, and two referee reports up front.
University of Western Australia Application Process for Indian Students
UWA uses the StudyLink portal for all international applications. The portal handles document upload, deposit payment, and offer-letter download. A complete application takes 60 to 90 minutes once documents are ready.

University of Western Australia Admission Decisions
UWA targets a four to six week turnaround on standard coursework applications from a complete submission to a decision. Research and MBA decisions take six to ten weeks because of supervisor sign-off and interview rounds.
- Conditional offer: Issued when one item (often the English test or pending Class XII result) is outstanding. Clear the condition by the date stated to convert.
- Full offer: All eligibility criteria met. You can pay the deposit immediately.
- Acceptance window: Most offers carry a six to eight week acceptance deadline. Late acceptance forfeits the seat.
- Deferral policy: One-semester deferral is permitted on request, before the original intake start date.
University of Western Australia Documents Required
Indian applicants upload documents directly on the StudyLink portal. Scans must be colour, legible, and certified where the document is a transcript or degree certificate. Missing documents are the single biggest cause of delayed decisions.
- Passport bio-page scan (validity covering intended study period plus six months).
- Class XII statement of marks and pass certificate (CBSE, CISCE, or state board).
- Bachelor’s transcripts (semester-wise) for PG applicants, certified by the issuing university registrar.
- Bachelor’s degree certificate or provisional certificate for PG applicants.
- English test score report (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE, or Duolingo) OR CBSE/CISCE English-subject certificate for waiver claims.
- Statement of Purpose (500 to 1,000 words; mandatory for PG coursework and research).
- Curriculum vitae or resume (mandatory for MBA, PhD, and PG by research).
- Two Letters of Recommendation (academic for PG coursework; one academic + one professional for MBA).
- Work experience letters on company letterhead with dates and role details (MBA and Executive variants).
- Financial proof, such as a bank statement or sponsor letter covering tuition plus living costs (required at visa stage).
University of Western Australia Acceptance Rate for Indian Students
UWA does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Independent estimates place selectivity at around 38%, based on Group of Eight peer-intake patterns and reported program-level shortlisting ratios. This makes UWA moderately selective, more accessible than Melbourne or Sydney for the same WAM, but stricter than non-Go8 Australian peers.
What drives UWA decisions
Three levers move an Indian application from waitlist to offer: percentage in the named prerequisite subject (Maths for STEM, English for Arts), a clean English-test report with no band below the floor, and an SOP that ties Indian academic context to the chosen UWA major. UWA’s Go8 ranking band drives competitive intakes in Data Science, Engineering, and Commerce. Apply by the India deadline, not the rest-of-world date.
UWA admissions for Indian students hinge on three things: hitting the India-specific deadline (28 December 2026 for Semester 1, 2027), clearing the 60% WAM or 70% Class XII academic floor for your level, and either passing IELTS at 6.5 or claiming the CBSE/CISCE English waiver. Plan testing eight weeks ahead and the rest follows.

- UWA offered the program I wanted and it is one of the top 100. Also when it comes to cost of living, Perth is most affordable compared to other cities in Australia.
Overview
Good.

- UWA is one of the G8 universities in Australia, as well as it is recognized in the world. The location, Perth is very nice place to live as well as it's easier to get work visa and PR.
- But the most important reason of all is that my elder brother was already here before I came so more of a reason to pick Perth.
- The vast array of different facilities they provide from personal care to personal development. You will get food all throughout the campus. They have good medical clinic and pharmacy within the campus.
Dislikes
- It gets expensive. For all the facilities they provide they also charge a large amount of money to keep supporting them. Even any food that you will buy would be more expensive than the food you would get anywhere outside UWA.
Overview
Overall experience is good enough. I feel industry ready and have confident that I will get hired soon after graduation. I had much fun studying here and still having it. As a person I grew more presentable, more professional.
Scholarship
Yes, I got AUD 10000/- scholarship from the government for the entire course duration.
Overview
UWA is one of the best universities in Australia as it falls in the group of 8 universities in Australia. Also, UWA is known for its research and is the only uni in western Australia to be on such a high level for my course
Scholarship
yes, I got a scholarship of 10000 dollars per year.
Overview
I am enrolled at the University of Western Australia, Perth for a few reasons. Firstly, it is highly ranked (92 globally as per QS Ranking, 2021) and also a part of the prestigious group of 8 universities. Secondly, Perth is a fast-growing city with great potential, learning from this potential will be a great experience. The course structure at UWA covers all aspects of my major and UWA graduates consistently higher than the national average starting salary and state graduate employment rates. The admission process at UWA was also fair and simple. I comfortably meet the admission criteria. Perth also offers a high standard of living. It offers students a 40% discount on all public transport facilities and also enjoys a low crime rate.
Scholarship
I got the "Global Excellence Award" scholarship for my class 12 results. Which amounted to $15,000 each year which makes a total of $45,000.
Overview
I attended multiple university fairs and applied to 3 universities. I choose UWA over the other 2 universities because of the course that it was offering. I missed minimum scholarship but a very small margin whereas, I was getting 25% scholarship from other universities, still, I choose this because of its reputation, faculty and ranking. I didn't pay any application fees. I scored 83% in my 10th, 84% in my 12 and 3.2 CGPA out of 4 in my undergraduate degree from NMIMS ( no 1 ranking B school in India). I am very happy with my decision.
Overview
UWA was my first preference, chosen solely because unit choices are super flexible and I could choose electives in languages such as Japanese in addition to my majors. Also chosen because of the variety of units offered in my chosen majors Giving a great perspective of your chosen major.
Overview
It was the closest for me to travel to from home. It is also the best world recognized university near me where I can choose to work anywhere in the world and have my degree recognized. I also have other friends and past students who go there that recommended it.
Overview
It had the double major I was looking for (pharmacy and neuroscience). It has the highest university ranking in WA and therefore presumed it would be the best. Family and friends have been before and have recommended it to me.
