| Bachelor of Science | 3 years | 165,300 | 111.60 lakh | Class 12 with 80% (recommended) |
Insider note: Indian applicants at Sydney University cluster heavily in Data Science, IT and Commerce because their credit-point pricing lets students finish a 96-credit masters in three semesters rather than four, cutting one full semester of tuition and living costs.
Sydney University Admission 2027
Sydney University admission for Indian students runs on two annual intakes with published international deadlines; Semester 1 (February) is the primary entry point that most Indian applicants target because it aligns with the Australian academic year and gives full access to competitive coursework masters.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Semester 1 2027 undergraduate application deadline | 1 December 2026 | Competitive courses may close earlier; apply by October to stay safe. |
| Semester 1 2027 postgraduate coursework deadline | 18 December 2026 | Course-specific closures apply; MBA closes earlier than general PG. |
| Semester 2 2027 application deadline (UG and PG) | 29 May 2027 | Same firm date for undergraduate and postgraduate international applicants. |
| Credential verification lead time | Start 6 to 8 weeks before deadline | Indian transcripts move via mark-sheet uploads; no WES pre-evaluation needed. |
| Semester 1 programme start | February 2027 | Arrive in Sydney 7 to 10 days before Welcome Week to settle in. |
[Source: The University of Sydney International Application Dates]
Planning note: Sydney closes several MBA, Data Science and IT programmes once cohort quotas fill, often 6 to 8 weeks before the published date. Indian applicants targeting MBA universities in Australia should submit by mid-October 2026 for the February 2027 intake, not December.
Students' Comments on Reddit: Getting in isn't described as impossibly hard, but popular courses like law, medicine, and commerce are seen as genuinely competitive. Students generally say a solid ATAR or GPA gets you through, though the application process itself (documents, deadlines, UAC for domestic students) can feel confusing at first.

Sydney University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Sydney University admission requirements for Indian applicants centre on Indian-scale academic thresholds, an English proficiency score, and course-specific documents; benchmarks below are what the international admissions team applies in practice.
Postgraduate Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree: Three- or four-year bachelor's from a recognised Indian university with 60% aggregate or CGPA 6.5/10 for general master's; 65% or CGPA 7/10 for competitive Business, Engineering and Data programmes (recommended).
- English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 85 (Australia version only, no Home Edition), or PTE Academic, LanguageCert Academic (in-person), Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency at course-set minimums.
- Documents: Mark-sheets and degree certificate, statement of purpose, CV, two references for MBA, portfolio for Architecture and Design.
- GRE/GMAT: Not required for most coursework masters; waived for the Business School’s Leadership and Enterprise MBA where prior work experience is presented.
Undergraduate Requirements
- Class 12: All-India Senior School Certificate (CBSE), Indian School Certificate (CISCE) or State Board result with 75% to 92% or more depending on programme; Commerce and Engineering typically expect 85% and above (recommended).
- English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6.0) or equivalent from Sydney’s accepted-test list.
Key insight: Sydney University waives the English test for Indian applicants who completed CBSE or CISCE Class 12 in English medium with 70% and above in English, provided the qualification is less than two years old at course start. Confirm this concession on your specific course page before booking IELTS.
Sydney University Acceptance Rate 2027
Sydney University does not publish an official institution-wide acceptance rate. Still, third-party estimates put the figure at 30% (estimated) across international coursework programmes, with substantially lower rates for the MBA, Medicine and competitive Data Science cohorts. The estimate is directional only; individual programme selectivity is what actually decides an Indian applicant’s chances.
For Indian applicants, the 30% headline overstates the difficulty of general Arts, Science, and IT master's programs and understates it for the MBA and Doctor of Medicine. Practical filters at Sydney are the Indian-scale grade cutoff, the English test score, and the intake capacity for that programme.
Reality check: Indian applicants meeting the 65% bachelor’s floor and IELTS 6.5 have a high offer probability for general PG programmes, but MBA and Data Science cohorts often close by mid-October in the Semester 1 cycle. Applying early beats optimising your file after the seats have gone.
Sydney University Cost of Living for Indian Students 2027
Indian students should budget a total annual cost of AUD 78,000 to 105,000 (INR 52.66 to 70.89 lakh) covering tuition and living for a coursework masters at Sydney University in 2027, depending on faculty and accommodation choice.
The University’s own cost-of-living calculator gives the ranges below; the Australian Government mandates that international students hold at least AUD 24,505 per year for living expenses at visa application.
| Category | Monthly (AUD) | Monthly (INR lakh) |
|---|---|---|
| Accommodation | 980 to 3,500 | 0.66 to 2.36 lakh |
| Food and groceries | 1,000 to 2,500 | 0.68 to 1.69 lakh |
| Transportation | 130 to 800 | 0.09 to 0.54 lakh |
| Mobile and personal | 380 to 750 | 0.26 to 0.51 lakh |
| Lifestyle | 350 to 650 | 0.24 to 0.44 lakh |
| Total monthly (typical) | 2,840 to 8,200 | 1.92 to 5.54 lakh |
| Annual living cost (indicative) | 34,080 to 98,400 | 23.01 to 66.44 lakh |
[Source: The University of Sydney official cost estimate]
Insider note: Sydney rents in inner suburbs like Newtown, Glebe and Ultimo range from AUD 350 to 550 per week for a shared room in 2026, which is what most Indian coursework masters students actually pay. On-campus college housing runs almost double that band but bundles meals and utilities.
Students' comment on Reddit: A common gripe is that student housing near campus is expensive and often full, pushing students to commute from further away or share housing to cut costs.

The University of Sydney Campus, Facilities and Student Life
Sydney University’s principal Camperdown-Darlington campus sits three kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, connected by frequent bus and light-rail services and within walking distance of Newtown and Glebe student neighbourhoods.
- Location: Camperdown-Darlington main campus with additional sites at Camden, Cumberland (Lidcombe), Mallett Street and the Rozelle School of Arts.
- Housing: On-campus residential colleges and University-managed accommodation cost AUD 306 to 475 per week; guaranteed housing is not offered but priority is given to first-year international undergraduates.
- Facilities: Fisher Library holds over five million items; the Charles Perkins Centre anchors interdisciplinary health research; the Chau Chak Wing Museum opened in 2020.
- Indian community: The Sydney University Indian Society is one of the largest student clubs on campus, running Diwali and Holi events; Indian applicants make up a large share of the 30,000+ international enrolment.
What Indian students say: Newtown share-house rents beat on-campus college costs by roughly 40%, but joining a residential college early smooths the first-month transition. Part-time hospitality and retail work near King Street and Broadway is easy to secure within four to six weeks of arrival.
Students' Insights: Ekansh – Sydney University Indian Cultural Society is one of the most active student clubs. Organizes Diwali, Holi, welcome webinars for new Indian students, cultural events, and support for freshers (airport pickup info, housing tips, etc.). Strong presence with thousands of Indian students overall
Sydney University Scholarships 2027
Sydney University awards over AUD 135 million in scholarships each year; the five confirmed schemes below are the ones most relevant to Indian coursework applicants for 2027 entry.
| Scholarship | Type | Award Value | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarships Scheme | Merit, UG and PG coursework | AUD 5,000 to 60,000 (one-off) | Unconditional international offer holders; no application required | Sem 1 2027 Round 1: 17 August 2026; Round 2: 5 October 2026; Round 3: 16 November 2026 |
| Sydney International Undergraduate Academic Excellence Scholarship | Merit, UG | Up to AUD 40,000 | Exceptional international UG applicants from priority markets including India | Verify at official scholarship page |
| University of Sydney International Stipend Scholarship (USYDIS) | Research, PG | AUD 42,754 per year (2025 award value) | Masters by research and PhD applicants | Verify at official scholarship page |
| Sydney International Student Award | Fee reduction, UG and PG | 20% tuition fee reduction | Commencing international coursework students | Auto-consideration at offer stage |
| Australia Awards Scholarship | Government full-ride | Full tuition, living and travel | Selected Indian applicants under DFAT bilateral programme | Verify at Australia Awards India portal |
[Source: The University of Sydney International Scholarships]
Planning note: The Vice-Chancellor’s Scheme is offer-triggered, so Indian applicants who submit by the August 2026 round have a genuinely stronger chance than those who file in November. The scheme selects on academic merit at the point your offer becomes unconditional; earlier files are considered against fewer competing candidates.
Students' Comments on Reddit: Scholarships are limited and hard to actually win, and even when students do get one, it usually only covers part of the tuition rather than living expenses. Several students mention having to work part-time or lean on family support alongside any scholarship money.

The University of Sydney Rankings 2027
Sydney University’s strongest global position is in the QS World University Rankings 2027 at #28, following a three-year trend from #18 in 2025 through #25 in 2026; other bodies place the University between #31 and #89 depending on methodology.
| Ranking Body | Latest Edition | Previous Edition | Two Editions Back |
|---|---|---|---|
| QS World | 2027: #28 | 2026: #25 | 2025: #18 |
| THE World | 2026: #53 | 2025: #61 | 2024: #60 |
| US News Global | 2026-2027: #31 | 2025-2026: #29 | 2024-2025: #29 |
| ARWU (ShanghaiRanking) | 2025: #72 | 2024: #74 | NA |
| Collegedunia Study Abroad | 2026: #89 | NA | NA |
[Source: QS, Times Higher Education, US News, ARWU, Collegedunia Study Abroad]
Key insight: Indian recruiters treat the QS World top 50 as the informal cutoff for visa-sponsored roles at Big 4 firms and Indian tech unicorns. Sydney comfortably clears that bar on QS at #28, but Indian applicants weighing US employer recognition should note the US News #31 position lands the university firmly in the top-tier bracket for global rankings.

The University of Sydney Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Sydney University reports strong graduate employment outcomes across its coursework masters, with data from the Australian Government’s QILT Graduate Outcomes Survey feeding the figures below.
- Employment rate: 90% within four months of graduation (2023-2024 QILT survey).
- Median starting salary: AUD 75,000 (INR 50.63 lakh) across bachelor and coursework masters graduates (market median).
- Top hiring sectors: Financial services, professional services, technology, health and government policy; representative Sydney recruiters include the Big 4 audit firms, Commonwealth Bank, ANZ, Atlassian and Australian federal agencies.
- Indian alumni: Sydney’s Indian alumni network is active in Sydney and Melbourne financial and technology hubs; the University’s Careers Centre runs India-focused industry mentoring rounds each semester.
- Post-study work: Indian graduates from a bachelor or coursework masters at Sydney qualify for the Temporary Graduate visa subclass 485, delivering 2 to 4 years of open work rights depending on the qualification and location.
Insider note: Big 4 and Australian bank graduate programmes recruit heavily from Sydney’s Commerce, Data Science and IT cohorts, but most sponsor for the 485 visa rather than direct PR. Indian graduates targeting permanent residency should plan a second qualification or a regional stint within the 485 window.
The University of Sydney vs Peer Universities
Sydney University sits inside Australia’s Go8 alongside the four peers below; the comparison uses QS 2027 rank, Collegedunia Study Abroad rank and average annual PG fee as the common basis, since these are the metrics Indian applicants consistently ask about.
| University | QS World 2027 | Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026 | Avg Annual PG Fee (AUD) | Avg Annual PG Fee (INR lakh) |
Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The University of Sydney | #28 | #89 | 56,800 to 64,800 | 38.35 to 43.75 lakh | Sandstone brand, oldest Go8 member, strong health and medicine |
| UNSW Sydney | #19 | #32 | 50,000 to 60,000 (market median) |
33.76 to 40.51 lakh (estimated) | Highest-ranked Australian university, engineering and business focus |
| University of Melbourne | #22 | #24 | 50,000 to 60,000 (market median) |
33.76 to 40.51 lakh (estimated) | Melbourne Model graduate-entry programmes, dominant humanities |
Sydney’s edge over these peers is a stronger humanities and health portfolio combined with the central city location, whereas UNSW and Melbourne outrank it on the QS scale by six to nine positions. For Indian applicants deciding between the Go8 five, sector fit and campus city matter more than the QS gap.
Sydney University suits Indian applicants who want a QS top-30 brand, a central city campus with strong health, humanities and business strengths, and a clear post-study work pathway on the 485 visa. On a total two-year investment of INR 60 to 88 lakh against a median first-job salary of INR 50.63 lakh, the ROI is reasonable for Indian coursework master's students who target Sydney or Melbourne roles rather than immediate returns to India.
The University of Sydney FAQs
Ques. How can Indian students pay The University of Sydney AUD 150 application fee?
Ans. The AUD 150 non-refundable application fee is paid online through Sydney’s Sydney Student portal at the point of submission. Indian applicants can use an international debit or credit card, or a forex card issued by Indian banks. The fee is charged once per intake, applies whether you apply directly or through an authorised agent, and is not refunded if the application is withdrawn or unsuccessful.
Ques. Does The University of Sydney offer GRE or GMAT waivers for master’s programs?
Ans. The University of Sydney does not require GRE for its coursework masters in Data Science, IT, Engineering or Commerce. The Business School’s Leadership and Enterprise MBA does not require GMAT if the applicant presents at least two years of full-time managerial work experience alongside a strong bachelor’s. Research masters and PhD applicants may still be asked for GRE by individual supervisors.

Ans. State Bank of India offers Global Ed-Vantage loans up to INR 1.5 crore covering Sydney University’s tuition and living costs at 8.65% to 10.65% interest. Avanse, Auxilo and IDFC First also fund Sydney enrolments.
Ques. Does The University of Sydney require interviews for master’s programs?
Ans. Most Sydney coursework masters do not require an interview; admission is decided on academic grades, English score and supporting documents. The MBA, Doctor of Medicine and some Master of Nursing streams do require interviews conducted over video call, typically 30 to 45 minutes long. Portfolio-based programmes in Architecture and Design ask for creative work rather than interviews.

Ans. Sydney University considers credit transfer for undergraduate applicants who have completed at least one year of an equivalent bachelor’s at a recognised Indian university. Credit is assessed course by course by the receiving faculty, capped at one-third of the target degree in most cases. Postgraduate coursework masters do not accept credit from Indian bachelor’s; only from prior masters or graduate diplomas.
Ques. Does Sydney University accept 3-year Indian bachelor’s degrees for masters entry?
Ans. Yes, Sydney University accepts three-year Indian bachelor’s degrees such as BA, BSc, BCom and BBA from University Grants Commission-recognised institutions as full masters entry qualifications. - Firstly, USYD has a very beautiful campus that gives Hogwarts vibes
- Next, I would say the learning environment, the university provides like access to library and learning hubs 24/7
- Some aspects of my course curriculum that gave the practical exposure in the fields I'm specializing in
Dislikes
- Old fashioned assessment methods: I didn't expect pen-paper exams when I joined the university. I genuinely believe that this is completely waste of time and efforts - some better assessments methods that are more practical in nature should have been included
- Limited support from Careers office: They just wanted to follow the predefined methods instead guiding on a personal basis as per the profile of the student. I was quite disappointed whenever I went there
- Boring Lectures - some lecturers just deliver the lectures by reading the slide content majority of the time
Campus Life
- It has so many campuses - I can't list each and every one, as I only used to go to the business school majorly
- Every facility mentioned is available - sports, library, cafes, and yes, medical services too
- USU FESTs at the beginning of the semester and multiple other events at so many locations conducted during the semester
- I used the badminton court and gym mostly
Fees
-
Semester Vise Fees - It increases each semester, and I remember there are some student amenities fees as well each semester. For me, it was overall around 21-23K AUD per semester - so around 90,000 AUD approximately in total
- Monthly expenses - around 2,500-3,000 AUD
- Rent - 1200-1800 AUD
- Transportation - 150-200 AUD
- Grocery - 400-600 AUD
- Phone Bill - 30-40 AUD
- Other Expenses - 100-200 AUD

- I chose Masters in Economics which has always been my subject of interest. The decision of choosing University of Sydney was the second after deciding the country. Australia looked like an untapped market in comparison to saturated UK job market. USA was the first choice only if offered an admission into the ivy league university. And once, Australia is a country was decided, University of Sydney is the first choice in terms of rankings, and Sydney being the financial capital of Australia.
- The facilities, campus, resources to do anything we want to do and large amount of encouragement the university gives to the students to pursue whatever they want.
Dislikes
- I have expected the university to have a placement cell where they call companies for campus placements, but nothing of this sort exists. We ourselves need to apply to companies and go through the recruitment process, university just trains us. This is the only thing until now which disappointed me.
Overview
I would say University of Sydney gives an excellent experience overall if we see holistically. The residents of the country play a very important role in our perception formation of how we like the place, and Australians are one of the warmest people I met.
Campus Life
I would like to answer this question in one single word:- IMMENSE. The amount of facilities and campus life this university gives, we cannot even enjoy a quarter of it, because there is literally so much going on all the time.

Overview
Overall great experience. Technical courses don't have a lot of diversity in terms of students. Due to Covid classes were online so difficult to network and make new friends.
Campus Life
Really good sports facility. Issue is every single sports facility has to be paid separately from tuition fees and sports and amenities fees. Nothing is included.

Overview
I was enrolled in New York University as a Business Technology Management student for 2 years. I was 17 at the time and felt pressured by my parents to go to a well-known university to study the same major they did. In New York, I quickly realized that I did not feel fulfilled doing my major, and struggled a lot with my mental health. Mental health is a taboo topic in my home country, Indonesia, and that fact alone fueled my life goal of helping people, and so I took a special interest in the way our brain functions in hopes of advancing science and medicine that would be useful for people in the future as well as removing the negative stigma on mental illnesses. I decided it was time to take a leap of faith and moved half way across the world to USYD as I heard very amazing things about their science and research faculty. So, here I am studying Neuroscience and Psychology in a university that I love.
Overview
The University of Sydney has a renowned globally accredited medical programme which is accepted in multiple countries. Also it is close to home, which for me is Singapore.
