Program Description

  • Advanced Diploma in Computer Systems Technology at George Brown College is offered as a 3 years (6 semesters) program.
  • It is an online program offered on a full-time basis.
  • This program is designed with extensive input from the industry and offers 2 optional specializations in its 3rd year.
    • The Networking specialization focuses on network security, voice-over-IP (VoIP), and wireless LANs.
    • The Systems specialization focuses on mail server administration, content management systems (Collaboration), database administration, and computer security.
  • Both specializations include core courses on infrastructure virtualization (through the VMWare IT Academy) and cloud computing, along with best practices in Information Technology.
  • In the 3rd year of the program, students will be involved, hands-on, in real-life projects or case studies
  • This program covers all four courses of the official Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum.
  • The curriculum also prepares students to write several other examinations leading to industry certifications, such as the Certified Wireless Network Administrator (CWNA) and Cisco’s CCNA Security.
  • Students who successfully complete this program may qualify for entry into Ontario college graduate certificate and university degree programs.
  • George Brown currently has articulation agreements with various other post-secondary institutions such as the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, McMaster University, and the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology.
  • This program prepares graduates for jobs in a wide variety of positions, including:
    • systems administrators connected with wireless LAN support
    • wireless service providers
    • cellular and broadband providers.
  • The average salary goes up to 34,000 USD after completing this program.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students have completed an Ontario Secondary School diploma or equivalent degree.
  • Students must complete Grade 12 English (C or U) with 60% or higher.
  • Students also have to complete a Grade 11 Math (M or U) or Grade 12 (C or U) with 60% or higher.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria

  • Students must be graduated from senior secondary school.
  • Students have a minimum overall of 60% in 10th and 12th Grade for all streams.
  • Students also have a minimum overall of 50% in English and Maths in 10th and 12th Grade.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.

VISA & Work Study

VISA

  • International Students will need to apply for a valid Student VISA before entering Canada.
  • A student visa is an immigration document that allows students to live and study in Canada.
  • The student must have a student visa to enroll in any degree, program, or course that takes more than 6 months to complete.
  • Whether students also need an Entry Visa depends on their country of citizenship.
  • The Temporary Resident Visa (Entry Visa) is a stamp placed on their passport that allows them to enter Canada.
  • In most cases, students Entry Visa will have the same expiry date as their Student VISA.
  • A student VISA is usually valid for the length of the student’s study program, plus an extra 90 days. 
  • The students need these documents to apply for a study permit:
    • Proof of acceptance i.e The offer letter that the student received from the university.
    • Proof of identity 
    • Proof of financial support i.e Documents showing the financial status.

Work Study

  • The George Brown College Work-Study Program provides students with part-time employment opportunities throughout the college.
  • Students can gain valuable experience working up to 15 hours a week at minimum wage.
  • Students locate their own job with any of the on-campus departments (for example athletics, academic departments, library, etc.).
