Red Deer College of Canada, in the emerging city of Red Deer, has 7 schools with more than 100 credit programs. The offered programs include Applied degrees, Collaborative degrees, Certificates, Apprenticeships, Diplomas, Career development certificates, Graduate certificates, and University transfer programs. Around 7,500 were studying at the college in 2017-18 term with up to 40 students in each class.

  • The minimum GPA requirement varies depending upon the course. But most of the Bachelor’s courses have a cut-off of 2.0 with exceptions in Engineering and Transfer programs.
  • The admission will be solely based on the previous academic performance of the applicants.
  • English proficiency of International applicants can be demonstrated by TOEFL, IELTS, MELAB, PTE or CAEL test scores.

Red Deer College Undergraduate Admissions

International students must provide some additional documents at the time of application. All the international applicants must obtain a Canadian study permit in order to enroll in the College.

Admission Requirements

  • Proof of English proficiency.
  • Official transcripts
    • Transcripts should be in the form that can be assessed by RDC.
    • The official translation should be included if necessary.
    • Transcripts must be sent directly to the Registrar Office from the issuing institution.
    • The official transcripts will be assessed by International Qualifications Assessment Services (IQAS) if the applicant belongs to a country other than that mentioned in this chart.
  • Senior or Higher secondary school certificates.
  • Copy of passport

Note: Translation of the required documents should be done through the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta.

English Language Requirements

International applicants whose native language is not English must prove their English Language Proficiency (ELP). Those who completed Secondary or Post Secondary studies in English with minimum requirements suggested by the College will be exempted from producing the Standardized test certificates. Note: Applicants to programs like Academic Upgrading and Transitional Vocational do not have to demonstrate their proficiency in English.

Visa Process for International Applicants

After receiving the acceptance letter from the college applicants need to apply for a valid visa in order to study in Canada. In order to study at Red Deer, the applicants will require a study permit. To enter Canada students even require a Temporary Residence Visa.

Requirements for a study permit are as follows:

  • Evidence of sufficient funds
  • Medical examination
  • Biometrics

Temporary Visa Permit:

This visa can be both single and multiple entries. The requirements for a temporary residence visa are as follows:

Admission Requirements for Bachelor’s Degrees

  • The subject-wise pre-requirements for specific programs are commonly referred to as ‘Alberta Grade 12 Course Groups’ which includes Humanities (Group A), Fine Arts (Group B), Science(Group C), Optional Subjects (Group D), etc.
  • Credit unit requirements are country-specific for these courses. For details, click here.
  • GPA of 2.0 for most of the courses except Transfer applicants and applicants to Engineering degrees.
  • 65% or better previous academic performance shall be expected for every course in order to be eligible for the application.
  • Courses in Clinical science (Bachelor of Nursing) mandates the applicants to have a background in Biology

RDC Certificate & Post-Diploma Admissions

  • 50% in ELA 30-1 or 65% in ELA 30-2

Admission requirements for Post-Diploma Courses

There are three post-diploma courses available with the college. The admission requirements are as follows:

  • UG degree in relevant discipline or
  • A two-year diploma or equivalent in relevant in the field.

For each term, the Admission Committee will decide the minimum criteria of admission based on the quality of the applicants and the number of applications received.
