The University of Winnipeg was established after Manitoba College and Wesley College merged to form United College and received a charter, thus changing to its present name. 

For the Fall intake of 2019, the total enrollment was 9,684 with an acceptance rate of 65%. The University of Winnipeg offers more than 400 courses in undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs with some of its best-known programs in theatre and film, environment studies, and human rights. 12.6% of the total student population of UWinnipeg are non-Canadian residents who come from 68 countries.

  • The University of Winnipeg has a selective admission policy and it accepts applications for Fall, Spring, and Winter sessions.
  • The application deadlines for International Applicants are June 1 for Fall, October 1 for Winter, March 1 for Spring semesters respectively.
  • Due to the impacts of COVID-19, the university has expanded the English Proficiency Score requirements to include the Duolingo English Test Scores as well. Similarly SAT or ACT scores are not required for current high school students’ admission. 
  • The University of Winnipeg provided over CAD5.7 million as financial aid last year in the form of scholarships, and awards. The University also administers over CAD15 million in annual assistance from Government Student Aid Programs.

University of Winnipeg Admission Deadlines

International students willing to study in Canada are recommended to apply as early as possible to allow enough processing time for admission and visa permit applications.

The University of Winnipeg follows a selective admission policy and it is based on students' past academic records and grades (an average of C or better on a minimum of 5 academic subjects). The total International student population is 1,250 which is 12.6% of the university’s total student population.

University of Winnipeg English Proficiency Test Score for International Students

The University of Winnipeg is now also accepting Duolingo Test Scores as an approved form of English proficiency for September 2020 and January 2021 admissions. The minimum required scores by the university for undergraduate programs are:

University of Winnipeg Visa Process for International Students

Most international students studying in Canada are issued a Study Permit before arriving in Canada, which is issued by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) when students are accepted by the University of Winnipeg. 

Applicants are encouraged to apply for the Study Permit as far in advance as possible, after receiving the Letter of Acceptance from The University of Winnipeg.

University of Winnipeg Undergraduate Admissions

At the University of Winnipeg, out of the total enrollment of 9,684 for the Fall 2019 semester, 9,415 were for the undergraduate programs. The undergraduate programs are offered across five faculties- Arts, Business, Education, Kinesiology, and Science.
