University of Winnipeg Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Indian applicants qualify on Class 12 board marks for undergraduate entry and on a recognised bachelor’s degree for graduate programmes; document detail lives in the admissions silo.
University of Winnipeg PG Requirements Overview
- Academic: Three or four year bachelor’s with 65% or CGPA 6.5/10 (recommended); MIM accepts 55% (recommended)
- English test: IELTS 6.5 overall, TOEFL iBT 80 or equivalent; verify exact minimums at the official English requirements page
- Credential verification: WES ICAP course-by-course evaluation for graduate applications
- Standout requirement: Marriage and Family Therapy Master’s needs a 45 minute admissions interview
University of Winnipeg UG Requirements Overview
- Academic: Class 12 with 60% to 85% depending on programme (recommended); BSc streams look for PCM combinations
- Language: IELTS 6.5 overall (min 6.0), TOEFL iBT 80 or PTE 58; verify at the official English requirements page
Key insight: Indian applicants schooled fully in English can request an IELTS waiver by submitting Class 10 and Class 12 English marks along with the school medium letter; the international office reviews waivers case by case.
University of Winnipeg Acceptance Rate 2027
The University of Winnipeg does not publish an official acceptance rate. Indian applicants meeting the published academic and language thresholds see admission at an estimated 66% (estimated) based on third-party admission-outcome trackers, ranging 60% to 70% (estimated) across programmes.
The rate is not officially disclosed and should be treated as a directional benchmark, not a guarantee. Competitive graduate seats such as Marriage and Family Therapy or scholarship-linked MIM admits carry lower effective acceptance because of funding caps.
Reality check: UWinnipeg is more accessible than Manitoba’s larger research universities for well-prepared Indian applicants, but scholarship-tier admits with Class 12 marks above 90% draw the tightest competition.

[Source: University of Winnipeg official scholarships and awards pages, 2026-27 cycle.]
Insider note: The Special Entrance award is fully automatic off Class 12 percentage with no separate application, while the President’s Scholarship for graduates is highly competitive with only three global slots, so a documented leadership resume matters as much as the 80% floor.

University of Winnipeg Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
UWinnipeg does not publish a central placement rate; career outcomes are driven by co-op options, Manitoba’s Provincial Nominee Program and the Post-Graduation Work Permit for eligible programmes.
- Placement rate: Not officially disclosed at the institutional level
- Median starting salary: CAD 55,000 to CAD 70,000 (INR 37.72 to 48.01 lakh) for MIM and Applied Computer Science graduates, based on Manitoba market medians (estimated)
- Hiring sectors: Public administration, financial services, IT services, healthcare technology and Manitoba agri-tech (sector list, not confirmed recruiter list)
- Post-study work: Up to 3-year PGWP for eligible Master’s programmes; Manitoba PNP International Education Stream open on graduation
- Career support: Career Services runs employer connect events, resume clinics and a dedicated international-student career coach
Insider note: Indian graduates from UWinnipeg most often route through the Manitoba PNP International Education Stream rather than Express Entry, since Manitoba prioritises local graduates for permanent residency nomination.
University of Winnipeg vs Peer Universities
The peer set below places UWinnipeg against neighbouring Prairie universities and one comparable undergraduate-focused Ontario peer, comparing tuition and positioning.
| University | QS World 2027 | Maclean’s Category Rank 2025 | Avg Annual PG Fee (CAD / INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| University of Winnipeg | Not ranked | #7 Primarily Undergraduate | 33,221 / 22.79 lakh (MIM) | Automatic Special Entrance scholarships and Manitoba PNP advantage |
| University of Manitoba | #601-610 | #14 Medical Doctoral | 22,000 to 30,000 (estimated) / 15.09 to 20.58 lakh | Larger research base with medical school and engineering |
| Brandon University | Not ranked | #12 Primarily Undergraduate | 16,000 to 20,000 (estimated) / 10.97 to 13.72 lakh | Lowest tuition band in the Prairies; strong Music and Rural Development |
| University of Regina | #801-850 (estimated band) | #12 Comprehensive | 21,000 to 28,000 (estimated) / 14.40 to 19.21 lakh | Co-op programmes across most Master’s streams |
| Trent University | Not ranked | #3 Primarily Undergraduate | 24,000 to 30,000 (estimated) / 16.46 to 20.58 lakh | Higher research intensity for a small university; strong Environmental Sc. |
[Source: Maclean’s 2025, QS World University Rankings 2027; peer fees are estimated bands from institutional pages.]
UWinnipeg’s distinct edge for Indian applicants is the pairing of transparent, low-tuition entry with automatic scholarships and a Provincial Nominee pathway that few peer institutions match.
The University of Winnipeg fits Indian students who want a downtown, teaching-first Canadian degree at a CAD 44,200 to CAD 65,600 annual outlay against MIM and Applied CS median starts near CAD 60,000, with the strongest Indian-specific advantage being the Manitoba PNP International Education Stream tied to graduate PGWP eligibility.
UWinnipeg is not the pick for applicants targeting a top-200 global brand, an engineering or medicine track, or the Toronto/Vancouver metro tech ecosystem; strong alternates on those axes include the University of Manitoba for engineering and medical streams, or Trent University for a research-linked small-campus Ontario base.
University of Winnipeg FAQs
Ques. What English tests does the University of Winnipeg accept?
Ans. UWinnipeg accepts IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, CAEL and the Duolingo English Test for international applications. IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0 is the standard undergraduate and most graduate threshold, with TOEFL iBT 80 or PTE 58 treated as equivalents. Indian applicants schooled fully in English may request an IELTS waiver by submitting Class 10 and 12 English marks alongside a school medium letter.
Ques. How many hours can UWinnipeg students work off-campus?
Ans. Full-time international students at UWinnipeg with a valid study permit may work up to 24 hours per week off-campus during academic terms, and full-time during scheduled study breaks such as the winter and summer holidays. On-campus work has no weekly cap. Co-op or internship terms embedded in a UWinnipeg programme require a separate co-op work permit, applied for through the university’s international office.
Ques. Does the University of Winnipeg require the GRE or GMAT?
Ans. The Master in Management via PACE does not require the GMAT or GRE for Indian applicants meeting the academic and English thresholds. Research Master’s programmes such as Applied Computer Science and Applied Economics also do not mandate GRE scores, though a strong quantitative record on the transcript is expected. Marriage and Family Therapy waives standardised tests but requires a 45 minute admissions interview instead.
Ques. What is the UWinnipeg application fee for Indian applicants?
Ans. The undergraduate international application fee is CAD 100 (INR 6,859), paid online at submission and non-refundable. Graduate application fees vary between CAD 100 and CAD 150 per programme, with the exact amount listed on each department’s admission page. UWinnipeg does not offer a systematic fee waiver for Indian applicants, though the president’s application-fee promotion runs briefly during select recruitment cycles.
Ques. Which Indian banks fund education loans for the University of Winnipeg?
Ans. SBI, HDFC Credila, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Bank of Baroda and Avanse routinely fund UWinnipeg admits, with unsecured loan caps typically at INR 40 lakh and secured loans going higher against property or fixed deposits. Manitoba’s below-average living costs help most Indian applicants keep loan asks within CAD 65,000 (INR 44.58 lakh) per year, well inside standard sanction limits. Loan disbursement schedules should be aligned to the tuition instalment dates in September and January.
Ques. How does an Indian applicant prove financial capacity for a UWinnipeg study permit?
Ans. An Indian applicant must show tuition for the first year plus CAD 20,635 in living expenses, per updated IRCC Cost of Living Financial Requirement 2026 rules, in the form of a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC), education loan sanction letter, four months of family bank statements, or a combination. The Student Direct Stream route requires a CAD 20,635 GIC purchased from an approved Canadian bank before the visa application is filed.
Ques. Can Indian students bring a spouse or child to the University of Winnipeg?
Ans. Yes. Spouses of full-time UWinnipeg graduate or professional programme students qualify for an open work permit that runs concurrent with the study permit, per current IRCC rules updated in 2025. Undergraduate students’ spouses no longer receive open work permits by default. Accompanying children under 18 are enrolled in Winnipeg School Division free of tuition while at least one parent holds a valid study permit.
Ques. How does the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program benefit UWinnipeg graduates?
Ans. Manitoba’s Provincial Nominee Program runs an International Education Stream that lets UWinnipeg graduates apply for a provincial nomination toward permanent residency shortly after graduation, without needing a year of Canadian work experience first. Career Focus and Graduate Internship pathways within the stream match specific PGWP-eligible programmes such as MIM, Applied Computer Science and BBA. A provincial nomination adds 600 Comprehensive Ranking System points on the federal Express Entry pool.

- While there is no formal job placement culture in Canada, the university does provide internship opportunities.
Dislikes
- Ultimately, it is up to the individual to capitalize on these opportunities.
Campus Life
- Everything is available. However, since the campus is located downtown, there is limited space for outdoor sports activities, and most facilities are indoors.
Fees
- CAD $20000

- Since I had significant years of work experience and I had done my previous studies long ago, I needed a course that did not require to submit any references from professors. There was no criteria of selection and selection was not competitive.
- Most teachers taught well and I learnt the concepts that I had not understood earlier. Most of the studies was online and technology was used properly by the instructors. The difficulty of the courses ranged from basic to difficult.
Dislikes
- I stayed in a hostel of the college. The rooms were small and expensive. The food provided did not have many vegetarian or Indian options. Most Indians don't stay in the hostel. I was fortunate to get a bigger room for myself due to Covid restrictions.
Overview
I met students from across the world so it was a satisfying experience. I learnt about the Canadian culture that helped me in my workplace later. I felt the college put that effort in ensuring that we succeeded in passing the course and get into a job as early as possible.
Campus Life
Even though there is a campus, I did not use the library. The books for some courses had to be purchased. The sports facilities is limited and again I didn't see anyone use them.

- Winnipeg city is not too small not big. It's a great city with 2 universities. Also, It offers Masters program so I was interested in the same program only
- Winnipeg university offers nice courses for Masters. You will get good pratical knowledge about every courses you will take. Also, there are only few students in the classroom, so professors are able to help each students with their questions on personal basis.
Dislikes
- They do not offer courses in summer also no help to university students to find first internship or job. Other universities have their dedicated portal and help to find students first job but it is not available at Winnipeg university
Overview
Overall we can consider this university as an option to study. My overall experience was good as I completed the courses on time.
Campus Life
Campus is not big like Manitoba university. It's located in downtown and there are some bulding. Classrooms are good. Also they arrange different festivals like holi in the university.
Likes
- I liked the smaller class sizes opposed to the University of Manitoba. That’s the main thing that made my university appealing and it truly lead to a much better overall experience
- I loved the small class sizes and how you can personally get to know your classmates, professors, TAs and lab instructors. It’s a great community to be apart of and you really hold lifelong relationships!
Dislikes
- Because we are in downtown, the safety can be a concern especially for late night classes. However, there are measures in place to assist students when they need. Such as, having someone to walk to and from your car, bus stop, or even your home (within a certain radius)
Overview
I loved the experience. I had so many classmates from year 1 on to year 4 that were in the same classes as I was. I built wonderful relationships with my professors and lab instructors that are life long.
Campus Life
I love the new clubs and extracurriculars! There is a lot surrounding Indian people now to make you feel more welcome.

- Its a Professional, Applied and Continuing Education (PACE) program in an affordable city in Canada.
- PR, Marketing and Strategic Communications by PACE (Professional, Applied and Continuing Education (PACE) programs) at University of Winnipeg is a hands-on course taught by active industry professionals. The curriculum and assignments are tasks we perform at work in Industry. Located in Winnipeg, the capitol of Manitoba makes it a very affordable living option in Canada.
Dislikes
- The University is a bit under rated and now overcrowded with international students. Some courses hardly have any Canadian students removing the Canadian perspective all international students look forward for.
Overview
As an international student returning to academics, PACE helped me gain North American, or to be precise Canadian, industry insights. If I consider my past experience as a cake, PACE is the icing that I needed to prepare myself for the Canadian job market.
Campus Life
Its a campus in downtown Winnipeg. best Library on and off line, Cultural activities and inclusive atmosphere.
Overview
This university gave me the option of enjoying qualitative education, with very affordable tuition and I took it. Moreover, the location was one of the factors for my admission as well, I have access to pretty much everything near my university.
Fees
When I applied for admission, it mentioned a range between $11,730 - $19,130 for business students. I paid a total of $15,959 during my first year and I would recommend students make sure that their finances allow them to go the maximum amount annually for the total term of their degree because every course has different fees and it can completely go wrong if you are only able to afford the lowest range.
Overview
The main reason was that it had small classrooms and a good environment so that I can easily make interactive learning with my teacher.
Overview
I liked the average size of the classes and all the professors can be contacted, I have made a lot of friends here as the size is small enough to keep in touch with everyone.
Fees
19000/year is the program fee.
Overview
I am always in marketing. My family is all in the business field. Maybe because of that I am into this course. After completion of my course, I want to open a business in Winnipeg. I want to succeed in my dream and I will do all I can for that.
Fees
There are no hidden charges. One time charge of sixteen thousand dollars. That's all so it's okay I am happy with fees.
Overview
To hone leadership skills, business and project management. Canada has an excellent education system with one of the highest liveability index, great reviews from alumni and affordability
Campus Life
I joined during pandemic so there wasn't much engagement with campus activities.
