Ontario Tech University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
The key requirement for Indian applicants is a recognised bachelor’s degree in a related discipline plus verified English test scores.
- Academic eligibility (PG): Bachelor’s degree with 65% to 70% or CGPA 6.5 to 7.0 out of 10 from a UGC-recognised institution (recommended); MASc research streams prefer 70%+
- English language: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 83 with Listening 20, Reading 20, Speaking 19, Writing 20; Education and Nursing raise IELTS to 7.0 and TOEFL to 87
- Credential verification: WES ICAP course-by-course report for Indian transcripts, submitted before an offer is issued
- Standout requirement (research streams): Two academic references and a research statement; supervisor pre-approval strongly advised for MASc and PhD
Undergraduate requirements:
- Class 12 academics: All India Senior School Certificate (CBSE), Indian School Certificate (CISCE) or State Board results, with programme-specific prerequisites in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology
- Language: Same IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 83 minimum; English medium of instruction alone does not waive the test
Key insight: Ontario Tech accepts Class 12 predicted or midterm marks from CBSE and CISCE candidates, so Indian applicants can secure a conditional offer before board results are announced, cutting three months off the visa timeline.
Ontario Tech University Acceptance Rate 2027
Ontario Tech University does not publish an official admission rate. Third-party estimates cluster around 70% (estimated) based on reported offer rates, making it a mid-selectivity Canadian public university where meeting the academic and English cut-offs typically secures an offer.
Selectivity varies sharply by faculty. Engineering MASc, Nursing and Business Analytics streams sit tighter, while general MSc, MEd and BA seats stay more open. Under-band English scores are the single biggest driver of Indian rejections.
Reality check: The 70% headline is misleading if you apply below the English minimum. Clear the IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 83 threshold and hold a 65% bachelor’s, and Ontario Tech becomes a strong safe-choice option.

Ontario Tech University Campus, Facilities and Student Life
Ontario Tech runs a two-site campus in Oshawa: a modern North Oshawa main campus shared with Durham College, and a downtown Oshawa campus for business, education and social science programmes.
- Location: 60 km east of downtown Toronto; GO Train and Durham Region Transit link campus to Union Station in about 65 minutes
- Housing: Four residences (South Village, North Hall, Central Hall, South Hall) with priority for first-year international students; residence guarantee not offered for continuing students
- Facilities: Automotive Centre of Excellence (climatic wind tunnel), Software and Informatics Research Centre, and North Oshawa Library with over 160,000 print holdings
- Indian community: Active Indian Students Association (ISA), Bollywood and Bhangra clubs, Diwali and Holi events; South Asian grocery stores 10 minutes from campus
What Indian students say: Oshawa feels calmer and more affordable than Toronto for first-year settling. Weekend trips to Toronto via GO Train are cheap. Winter is long, so pack for cold from day one and buy a heavier coat on arrival.

[Source: Ontario Tech University Student Awards and Financial Aid]

Ontario Tech University Rankings 2027
Ontario Tech University’s strongest ranking is #144 globally among top young universities as per Times Higher Education 2026, with the overall THE World band holding at 801-1000 across recent editions.
| Ranking Body | Latest Edition | Previous Edition | Two Editions Back |
|---|---|---|---|
| QS World | 2027: Not ranked in main list | 2026: Not ranked in main list | 2025: Not ranked in main list |
| THE World | 2026: #801-1000 | 2025: #801-1000 | 2024: #801-1000 |
| THE Young Universities | 2026: #144 | NA | NA |
| QS Sustainability | 2026: #1401-1500 | NA | NA |
| Collegedunia Study Abroad | #589 of 824 | NA | NA |
Ontario Tech also holds subject-level positions in THE 2026 that matter for Indian applicants: Engineering 401-500, Education Studies 501-600, Business and Economics 501-600, and Computer Science 601-800. Shanghai Ranking places its Energy Science and Engineering programme in the global top 100.
[Source: Ontario Tech University Rankings page; QS, THE, Collegedunia Study Abroad]
Key insight: Indian applicants should read Ontario Tech’s rank as a young-university signal, not a Big-Five global rank. Employers in the GTA tech corridor recognise the brand well, and the THE Engineering 401-500 subject band clears most India loan-provider eligibility filters.

Ontario Tech University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Ontario Tech University reports strong graduate outcomes anchored on a large experiential-learning base and 500+ industry partners, most concentrated in the GTA and Durham automotive-tech corridor.
- Employment within 6 months: 89% of graduating cohort
- Employment within 2 years: 92.9%, above the Ontario provincial average
- Experiential learning: 90%+ students complete a co-op, internship or practicum before graduation
- Recruiting sectors: Automotive engineering, cybersecurity, banking analytics, health tech and nuclear energy (representative sectors, not a disclosed employer list)
- Career support: Career Centre offers one-on-one coaching, resume reviews and industry-partner job boards accessible from admission through five years after graduation
Insider note: Ontario Tech MEng and MITS graduates place well into Toronto banks, Ontario Power Generation and the GTA cybersecurity cluster. Median starting salary for master’s roles sits near CAD 68,000 (INR 46.97 lakh) as a Canadian market median, though the university does not disclose programme-level salary bands.
Ontario Tech University vs Peer Universities
The peer set below compares Ontario Tech University to three Canadian universities Indian applicants often shortlist alongside it: mid-tier Ontario publics and a Maritime research university, based on ranking, tuition and differentiator.
| University | QS Rank 2027 | Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026 | Avg Annual PG Fee | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ontario Tech University | Not ranked | #589 of 824 | CAD 22,313 (INR 15.41 lakh) | Lowest tuition in Ontario tech-focused publics |
| Carleton University | #621-630 | NA | CAD 30,300 (INR 20.93 lakh) | Ottawa policy and cybersecurity focus |
| Toronto Metropolitan University | #801-850 | NA | CAD 33,700 (INR 23.28 lakh) | Downtown Toronto media and business network |
| University of Windsor | #701-710 | NA | CAD 28,900 (INR 19.96 lakh) | US border access and automotive engineering ties |
Ontario Tech stands out on two data points: it is the cheapest tech-focused Ontario public for Indian PG students and it is the country’s #1 undergraduate research university as per Research Infosource 2025. That combination is uncommon at this fee tier.
Ontario Tech University fits the Indian applicant who wants a Canadian STEM degree at CAD 44,000 to 52,000 total programme cost, GTA proximity without downtown Toronto rents, and a three-year PGWP runway. An investment of about INR 55 to 70 lakh over two years, against a Canadian tech-sector median starting salary of about INR 47 lakh, gives a workable ROI within three to four years for MEng, MITS and MBA-AI streams. The Post-Graduation Work Permit route via study in Canada is the strongest Indian-specific advantage.
It is not the right pick if you want a Big-Five global brand, a downtown Toronto lifestyle from day one, or a research supervisor pool as deep as Toronto, Waterloo or McGill. Applicants prioritising those factors should consider Toronto Metropolitan University instead, which sits inside Toronto with a broader recruiter network.
Ontario Tech University FAQs
Ques. What English test waivers does Ontario Tech University offer Indian applicants?
Ans. Ontario Tech does not waive English tests for Indian applicants on the strength of English-medium schooling alone. Waivers apply only where the applicant completed three or more years of prior study in an approved English-medium country such as Canada, US, UK, Australia, New Zealand or Ireland. Indian CBSE, ISC and State Board applicants must submit IELTS 6.5, TOEFL iBT 83, Duolingo 120 or an equivalent accepted test.
Ques. Can Ontario Tech students work part-time while studying in Canada?
Ans. Yes, international students at Ontario Tech University on a valid study permit can work up to 24 hours per week off campus during term and full-time during official breaks, under IRCC rules effective from November 2024. On-campus work is unlimited. Co-op work terms require a separate co-op work permit, which the university’s International office helps apply for at no additional government fee.
Ques. Does Ontario Tech require GRE or GMAT for master’s programmes?
Ans. Most Ontario Tech master’s programmes do not require GRE or GMAT. The MASc, MEng, MEd, MSc, MHSc and MITS streams evaluate transcripts, English test and references only. The Master of Business Analytics and AI and Master of Financial Data Analytics may consider GMAT or GRE as an optional strengthener but do not treat it as mandatory. Confirm the current status on each programme page before applying.
Ques. Which Indian education loan providers finance Ontario Tech tuition?
Ans. Ontario Tech University is on the approved lender lists of HDFC Credila, Avanse, InCred, ICICI Bank, SBI Global Ed-Vantage and Axis Bank. Loans up to INR 55 lakh are typically available without collateral for the MEng, MITS and MBA-AI programmes, given Ontario Tech’s DLI status and Canadian public-university recognition. Full-cost loans up to INR 75 lakh usually need residential collateral or a co-applicant.
Ques. How much financial proof do Indian applicants need for a Canada study permit?
Ans. For Ontario Tech University in 2027, IRCC requires proof of tuition paid or payable, plus CAD 20,635 living expenses for a single applicant. A GIC of CAD 20,635 through Scotiabank, ICICI Canada or CIBC is the fastest route for Indian applicants. Add proof of first-year tuition (paid or blocked), spouse and child amounts if applicable, and unblocked funds for airfare.
Ques. What is the Ontario Tech University application fee for Indian applicants?
Ans. The undergraduate application through OUAC costs CAD 156 for three programme choices plus CAD 50 per extra choice, with an Ontario Tech supplementary fee of about CAD 100. Graduate applications through Ontario Tech’s direct portal cost CAD 125 per programme. Application fees are non-refundable and payable by international credit card at submission. Fee waivers apply only to specific need-based bursary categories.
Ques. Does Ontario Tech accept CBSE predicted grades for early admission?
Ans. Yes. Ontario Tech accepts CBSE and CISCE Class XII midterm or predicted marks along with the Grade XI final marksheet for conditional admission. Applicants can also upload their CBSE Admit Card (roll, centre and school numbers) for online verification of final results after release. Conditional offers convert to full offers once official Class XII results and prerequisite marks are submitted through the admissions portal.
Ques. Can Indian spouses accompany Ontario Tech students on dependent visas?
Ans. Yes. Spouses of Ontario Tech University graduate students can apply for an open Spouse Open Work Permit (SOWP) that allows full-time work in Canada for the length of the study permit. From 2024, SOWP is limited to spouses of master’s, doctoral and select professional programme students. Children under 22 can join on a dependent visa and attend Ontario public schools tuition-free.

Overview
I chose it because it was ranked good for computer science and my friends got accepted in it as well. The location and university fees were also within my budget I liked my time there. Going abroad and integrating with the culture helped me broaden my horizons and I made some amazing friends. The university was the same as many other universities in Canada Ontario to be honest. Especially due to the final two years being online, it really took away the university feel.
Campus Life
I would say the events clubs etc were lacking. Mostly because small student position and my school was considered a commuter school. Most students lived off campus, usually different cities from the university. And then due to Covid, I spent the last two years of my program studying abroad so I did not have much opportunity to participate in events. Though after Covid, I can see the university doing more events from social media

- The university, is fairly new, and in steady development. Since it's tech university it extensively laid out its equipment for any courses. And especially for Software Engineering they provide an amazing program.
Overview
My overall experience at Ontario Tech University has been incredibly fulfilling and transformative. The diverse range of courses, knowledgeable faculty, and supportive community have enriched my learning journey. Engaging in extracurricular activities, participating in events, and forming lifelong friendships have made my time here truly memorable. I feel fortunate to be part of such an inclusive and inspiring educational environment. I would've regretted so much if i knew this is what I would he missing if I didn't come here.
Campus Life
Ontario Tech University's campus provides modern and well-equipped classrooms, research facilities, laboratories, libraries, and collaborative spaces. There are tonnes of welcoming clubs from cooking to robotics.
Campus Life
If i talk about Ontario Tech specifically, its not that old for a university. Canadian universities are like old, but Ontario Teach was established around 20 years ago. They have the latest equipment. If i talk about amenities, there are gymnasium, there is a walk-in clinic on the campus, ice center, soccer center, etc. There is fresh week, which is like orientation week, which has concerts and all. we have more than 110 clubs. For extra curriculars, we can go for night-out in the city. The campus nearby is having a lot of amenities, food, gas station, etc.

Overview
I weighed my options, and this school was the closest to home, at a moderate price. They also offer free public transportation as part of the student ID and access to a gym. The program was very good (as per upper-year students experiences), and the campus is beautiful and new
Fees
Tuition and compulsory fees for a year came to about $9,000 which I believe is pretty moderate. Tuition itself for domestic students is around $750 per course (with 10 courses per year) and the remaining charges come from compulsory fees. In past years these fees have included the technology enriched learning program, dental and health insurance, the bus?s pass linked with the student IDs, and gym access in addition to a number of other nominal fees
Overview
It was a good prep for med school as I was told by recent graduates and alumni. I also read several forums online that detailed the advantages and disadvantages of the program which includes commute for me personally.
Fees
They have very expensive tuition I had to eventually go on OSAP. That being said the school helps you pay with scholarships
Overview
UOIT is one of the closest universities that offers the med lab program to where i live. The program is only offered at about 5 colleges/universities in Ontario. I also opted for the university over the college program as obtaining a bachelors degree will open more opportunities for myself in the future.

Personally, for my program i believe the tuition fees for each year is around $7,500, and there is also auxiliary fees such as bus pass, gym membership and others that are added on top of that. Textbooks are a large added expense on top of tuition as well with some books costing up to $300 or $400 , with increasing prices each year.
Overview
This school is right in my home neighborhood so it is a perfect choice. Also, it is more hands-on with the students. It's easier to become familiar with the profs to create relationships with your peers.
Fees
Fees include the facilities like the gym and healthcare. We also get a bus pass although, I do not use it.
Overview
It was close to home and it had a specific Legal Studies program, which is what I wanted to do before law school, which I hope to attend after my undergraduate degree. It is also more affordable than some other schools in Ontario.
Fees
Approximately 6 thousand dollars a year. Broken down are the courses, the health, and wellness center, and transportation, among other services.
