  • IELTS 6.5 overall is achievable in 4–6 months of focused prep; the reading and listening components typically challenge Indian test-takers less than writing.

  • Both IELTS and TOEFL scores are valid for three years from the test date; plan your test around your application timeline.
Honest Take: Indian students with a 3.0+ GPA are competitive for Haskayne admission. Expect 10–20% acceptance rate for international applicants; marketing focus attracts high volumes, so your essays and co-curricular involvement matter.

BComm Marketing FAQs

Ques. Can I work part-time during my BComm at University of Calgary?

Ans. Yes, international students on a valid study permit can work up to 20 hours per week during academic terms and full-time during official breaks. The co-op programme also allows you to do paid internships (typically C$25,000–40,000 per term) that count toward your degree.

Ques. What is the difference between BComm Marketing and BComm Entrepreneurship at University of Calgary?

Ans. Marketing focuses on consumer behaviour, brand strategy, digital campaigns, and market research. Entrepreneurship emphasises starting and scaling new ventures, business planning, and opportunity identification. Both teach core business skills; choose based on whether you want to build brands within established companies (Marketing) or launch your own business (Entrepreneurship).

Ques. Do I need work experience to get into the BComm at University of Calgary?

Ans. No work experience is required for first-year entry. A 3.0+ GPA and IELTS 6.5 are the main criteria. Work experience or business club leadership strengthens your personal statement but is not mandatory for admission.

Ques. Will I get a student visa for Canada after my BComm?

Ans. After graduation, you switch from a study permit to a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), which is not a student visa. It is an open work permit that lets you work for any employer for up to three years. This is your step toward permanent residence via Express Entry.

Ques. What is the co-op option, and how does it affect my tuition?

Ans. Co-op allows you to alternate study terms with paid internship terms (typically four months each). Your tuition is prorated per course during internship terms, reducing your annual cost by 25–40% during those semesters. You earn C$25,000–40,000 per internship, offsetting your living expenses and reducing net degree cost.
