Admission status: Open. Fall 2027 is the primary intake for international students at York University, and the earliest live deadline is Schulich MBA Round 1 on 21 October 2026. Applications submitted through York University’s own portal carry a fee of CAD 140 (around ₹9,718), while the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) route for undergraduates charges CAD 156 (around ₹10,828) for up to three program choices.

York University admissions run in three cycles a year for international students, with Fall (September) as the primary intake where most of the 300+ programs open. Indian undergraduate applicants need at least 55% in Class XII from CBSE, ISC, or state boards, while postgraduate applicants need an Honours (four-year) bachelor’s degree with at least a B average (roughly 65 to 70%) in the final two years.

  • Fall 2027 undergraduate deadline is 24 March 2027, with rolling review after.
  • Base international tuition sits at CAD 34,000 to 47,000 (around ₹23.60 to 32.62 Lakhs) per year, and the York portal application fee is CAD 140 (around ₹9,718).
  • Undergraduate English floor is IELTS 6.5; graduate floors range from IELTS 6.5 to 7.5 by discipline.
  • Acceptance rate is estimated at around 57% across programs.

Popular Indian-student choices include the Schulich MBA, the Lassonde MSc in Computer Science, and BBA at Schulich. Reviews on the York University profile flag the Keele campus’s co-op access and downtown proximity as recurring positives, with document turnaround being the most common friction point.

York University Eligibility for Indian Students

York University sets separate academic and English thresholds for undergraduate and graduate entry. Indian Class XII qualifications from CBSE, ISC, and recognised state boards are accepted for undergraduate assessment, and Indian bachelor’s degrees are accepted for graduate assessment when the awarding institution holds a National Assessment and Accreditation Council rating of A+ or five stars, or a signed partnership with York.

  • UG general entry: Class XII at 55% overall from CBSE, ISC, or a recognised state board.
  • UG science entry: Class XII Mathematics plus at least one of Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
  • PG master’s entry: four-year Honours bachelor’s with a B (around 65 to 70%) average in the final two years.
  • PhD entry: a master’s degree with a B+ or A- average (roughly 70 to 75%) across all graduate work.

English requirements are set by test, and the graduate floor scales up with discipline. The table below lists York’s accepted proficiency tests and the institution-wide minimums, sourced from the official language requirements pages.

York University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Indian applicants can bypass IELTS or TOEFL if they meet any one of York’s published exemption pathways. Two are commonly usable by Indian students: completion of an English-medium high school programme where English was the sole language of instruction for four full years, or completion of one full year of university-level study at an accredited institution where English is the sole official language. Studying at an NAAC A+ institution does not itself waive English; the medium-of-instruction condition must be documented on official letterhead.

York University PG Programs and English Scores

York University offers postgraduate programs across the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Lassonde School of Engineering, Osgoode Hall Law, and Schulich School of Business. Base international tuition for master’s programs starts at roughly CAD 19,700 (around ₹13.67 Lakhs) per year for research streams, with a course-wise fees breakdown available for professional master’s on the York course fees page.

Insider note: Lassonde and Schulich admit against the higher end of the published English band even when the discipline floor is lower, so aiming for IELTS 7.0 across sub-scores keeps the widest set of graduate options open.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official York University Graduate Entry Requirements page for your chosen program before applying.

York University UG Programs and Cutoffs

Undergraduate entry at York University is set by faculty and program. The base Class XII floor is 55%, but competitive programs at Schulich (BBA/iBBA), Lassonde (BEng), and the School of Nursing publish higher subject-specific cutoffs. Base international undergraduate tuition sits at CAD 34,000 to 47,000 (around ₹23.60 to 32.62 Lakhs) per year depending on credit load and program.

York University Schulich MBA Rounds

The Schulich School of Business at York University runs a full-time MBA, a part-time MBA, and a separate Executive MBA. Full-time and part-time formats begin in September and January, and international applicants are strongly encouraged to submit by Round 2 to sit inside the main scholarship pool. Base tuition for the full-time MBA is set per intake — see the fee schedule linked on the Schulich admissions page for the current international rate.

Schulich MBA Eligibility at York University

Full-time MBA applicants need a Bachelor’s degree with a B average (around 65 to 70%) in the last two full years and a minimum of two years of post-degree full-time work experience. Three-year Indian bachelor’s holders can be considered with one additional year of work experience. GMAT or GRE is required, with a floor of 550 GMAT and a competitive band around 660. English proficiency: IELTS 7.0 overall (minimum 6.5 per band) or TOEFL iBT 100.

Selected applicants sit a 30-minute virtual admissions interview. The Schulich Graduate Waiver can waive the GMAT and the CAD 150 application fee for York BBA, MMgt, or specialised master’s alumni who graduated within five years with a B+ or better and two years of post-graduate work. The Executive MBA is a separate program with different eligibility, aimed at mid-career professionals with seven to ten years of experience.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Schulich MBA page for your chosen program before applying.

York University PhD Admissions Pathway

York University PhD entry runs through the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the discipline-specific graduate program. Indian applicants need a research or coursework master’s degree with a B+ or A- average (around 70 to 75%) across all master’s work. Some programs, notably in Science and Engineering, admit direct-entry PhD candidates who hold only a strong Honours bachelor’s with a first-class average.

York University PhD Application Steps

  • Identify a York faculty supervisor whose research aligns with your proposal.
  • Prepare a research statement, transcripts, two academic references, and CV.
  • Submit through the York Graduate portal with the CAD 140 (around ₹9,718) application fee.
  • Upload English proficiency scores at the level set by your discipline.

York University PhD Funding for Indian Students

Most funded PhD offers combine a Graduate Assistantship, teaching or research assistantships, and internal scholarships. Funded packages typically run four years and are stated as an annual total in the offer letter — confirm the current academic-year figure with the graduate program before accepting. External funding for Indian students is listed on the York University funding for Indian students page.

Insider note: Getting an emailed intent-to-supervise from a York faculty member before submitting shortens the review cycle. Most funded PhD offers hinge on a supervisor advocating for the file.

Note: PhD funding structures and stipend amounts vary by program and academic year. Confirm current offers on the York Faculty of Graduate Studies page.

York University Application Process

Indian applicants use one of three routes depending on the level. Undergraduate applicants use either the York University portal or the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) 105 form, which is Ontario’s central undergraduate application platform. Graduate applicants use the York Graduate portal. Schulich MBA applicants use the Schulich admissions portal. Each route has its own application fee.

  1. Choose your platform. For UG, decide between York’s own portal (single university) or OUAC 105 (multiple Ontario unis). For PG, use the York Graduate portal. For MBA, use Schulich.
  2. Complete the online form with academic history, program choice, and personal statement.
  3. Pay the application fee — CAD 140 (around ₹9,718) on the York application portal for UG or PG, CAD 156 (around ₹10,828) on OUAC 105 covering up to three programs, or CAD 150 (around ₹10,412) for Schulich.
  4. Upload documents to MyFile — the applicant portal opens after the fee clears and issues a York student number.
  5. Submit English test scores directly from the testing body. York does not offer conditional admission pending scores.
  6. Track your decision — undergraduate assessment takes four to six weeks after all documents arrive; graduate decisions run eight to fourteen weeks after the deadline.

York University Admission Decisions Timeline

Undergraduate offers are released rolling from January onward for Fall intake, and offer packages state an acceptance deadline of one to three weeks. Graduate offers are released two to three months after the program’s dated deadline. York permits a one-term deferral for undergraduate offers when supported by a documented reason, with a fresh confirmation required by the deferred term’s start.

Documents Required for York University

Document lists differ by level, but a common pack applies to Indian applicants across UG, PG, and MBA routes. All documents are uploaded through MyFile after the online application clears, and York expects official documents to arrive before the program deadline. Late-arriving academic transcripts are the most common reason for a delayed decision.

  • Passport bio-page — machine-readable, valid through the intended study period.
  • Official Class X and Class XII marksheets — sent directly by the board or via a certified copy.
  • Bachelor’s transcripts and provisional degree — for PG applicants, sent officially from the awarding university.
  • Personal statement or Statement of Purpose — 500 to 1,000 words per program requirement.
  • Two academic references — three for MBA and PhD.
  • English test score report — sent electronically from IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Duolingo.
  • Resume or CV — required for MBA, PhD, and most professional master’s.
  • GMAT or GRE score — required for MBA; recommended for MSc Computer Science.
  • Financial proof — bank statement or scholarship letter, required later for the study permit.
  • Supplementary applications — video interview, portfolio, or audition for AMPD, Schulich, and Nursing programs.

York University Acceptance Rate

York University does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party estimates place the overall rate at around 57%, based on program-level admit patterns across Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, Science, Lassonde, and Schulich. The rate varies sharply by program.

York University Acceptance Rate by Faculty

  • Schulich BBA/iBBA and MBA: highly selective — estimated 20 to 35%, driven by supplementary essays and interviews.
  • Lassonde Engineering and CS: selective — estimated 30 to 50%, gated by Math and Physics grades.
  • Liberal Arts, Science, and Health: moderately selective — estimated 60 to 75%.
  • MSc Computer Science (research): highly selective — historical admits sit in single digits per admission cycle.

What Improves Odds at York University for Indian Applicants

Hitting the discipline-specific English floor rather than the institutional minimum lifts a file above the borderline pool. For Schulich, a submitted GMAT above 640 and clearly quantified two-plus years of work paired with a distinct application essay carries weight. For Lassonde, Class XII Math above 85% and Physics above 80% signal readiness.

Insider note: York’s rolling review means an early complete file at competitive programs is assessed against a fuller seat pool, while a late complete file competes for what remains.

Canada Student Visa for York University

Indian students admitted to York University need a Canada Study Permit, granted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The process starts with York issuing the Letter of Acceptance, which is used to submit a study permit application through IRCC’s online portal. Ontario Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) is issued by York for eligible study permit applications under the 2026 international student cap framework.

The application requires proof of tuition payment for the first year, proof of settlement funds meeting IRCC’s published cost-of-living threshold, biometrics, a medical examination for stays over six months, and a Statement of Purpose addressed to the visa officer. The Student Direct Stream (SDS) route for Indian nationals continues to offer faster processing when applicants meet its criteria, including a Guaranteed Investment Certificate.

2026 update: Under the current international student cap, York University issues a limited pool of Provincial Attestation Letters per intake. Once you accept an offer, request the PAL through MyFile — visa applications lodged without one are returned.

York University Application Tips and Checklist

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at York University. They combine sequencing advice with judgement calls that shape which offers land.

  • Request official transcripts eight weeks before the program deadline — Indian board and university dispatch cycles are the most common source of missed deadlines.
  • Book IELTS or TOEFL at least three months before applying to leave room for a retake if you miss the discipline-specific floor.
  • Choose the York portal over OUAC 105 if York is your only Ontario target — it saves CAD 16 and clears faster.
  • For Schulich MBA, apply by Round 2 to sit inside the main scholarship pool — Round 3 seats are limited.
  • Contact a PhD supervisor at least two months before the graduate deadline to secure a supervision fit.
  • Request the Provincial Attestation Letter through MyFile immediately after paying the tuition deposit — study permit filings without it are rejected.
  • Route Duolingo or IELTS scores electronically through the testing body — uploaded PDFs are not accepted as official.
  • Prepare supplementary applications early for Nursing, Schulich BBA, and AMPD programs — the essay and video prompts take longer than the main form.

Indian applicants planning ahead should sequence tests, transcripts, and financial documentation to align with York’s rolling review windows. The York ranking band reflects sustained research and teaching quality that shapes program-level competition.

York University Fall 2027 admission is open across undergraduate, graduate, and Schulich MBA routes, with the earliest live cutoff being Schulich MBA Round 1 on 21 October 2026 and the undergraduate window closing 24 March 2027. Indian applicants meeting a Class XII score of 55% or an Honours bachelor’s with a B average, paired with an IELTS 6.5 to 7.5 depending on discipline, sit inside the eligible pool.

  • I did hear about scholarships but we are told nothing. And nothing is available for an international student.
  • I believe as per the knowledge I have only master students receive them. But again they don’t inform us about such things. Even I looked it up and emailed the university but they straight away said No, that we don't offer scholarships to international students.

I chose to come to Canada primarily because of the fact that my family was moving here. I chose to study at York University due to its Goodwill and name in the market. My overall experience was a little below my expectations as the course did not really add to my current knowledge base.

Overview

The overall experience at the University of Waterloo was not very good. I got academically burdened and faced a lot of obstacles in finishing my degree, which led me to transfer to York University. It could have been a much better experience if I knew how much academic stress I was going to face. There is a huge difference between studying in a college in India and studying in a University in Canada. Social life plays a very important role in keeping your sanity and not feeling homesick. International students must know how to manage their finances, cook good food and be regular at exercising and gym. Keeping a strong balance between work and study is essential too. More than anything else university in Canada taught me a lot about being independent and living a healthy adult life.

Scholarship

Yes, I received $2000 scholarship for the first two semesters.

Overview

I chose this university because of the location of the institute, the course, and the business school. Overall experience is good. Infrastructure is good. Campus is good. Cheap food options. But jobs are not available neither part time nor full time. That's a little disappointing. Apart from that professors are excellent and are very helpful.

I had to submit an online SOP before the arrival of the offer letter. The main point of SOP is to be true to what you want and emphasize your skills and curiosity to learn. Overall, it was an interesting experience due to new culture, new friends. On the academic front, I learned a-lot through case studies, projects, group assignments. I feel program length should be more than 12 months as it becomes very hectic for international students to manage all the workload.
