Brandon University admissions run on a two-intake calendar, and the international-applicant window for Fall 2027 is now open — UG applicants need Class XII with an academic average of C or higher across five subjects, and PG applicants need a bachelor’s degree with CGPA 3.0 for most master’s programs.

  • Fall 2027 (primary intake): applications and documents due 1 April 2027, review starts 1 October 2026
  • Base UG tuition from CAD 16,855.35 (around INR 11.41 Lakhs) per year plus an application fee of CAD 140 (around INR 9,479)

  • Estimated acceptance rate around 50 to 70 percent, based on program-level competitiveness patterns

Popular programs for Indian students include Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science, and the Master of Education, and student reviews highlight small class sizes and direct faculty access on the Manitoba campus. See the full Brandon University Canada profile for course listings and campus context before applying.

Admission Status. Open. The Fall 2027 (September) primary intake closes on 1 April 2027 for both applications and supporting documents, and Brandon University begins reviewing files on 1 October 2026. International applicants pay a non-refundable application fee of CAD 140 (around INR 9,479) on the BU Online Application portal. The Winter 2028 (January) intake is also open, with a document-inclusive deadline of 1 August 2027.

Brandon University Application Deadlines for Indian Students

Brandon University runs two international intakes each year, per the official Brandon University international deadlines page. The application deadline and the document deadline are the same date — supporting documents must arrive by the cut-off, not just the application form. The Fall (September) intake is primary and carries the widest program availability for Indian students. Applications filed after the Fall cut-off automatically shift to the following Winter term, while post-August 1 files require reapplication with a fresh fee.

Currency note: All INR figures in this article use CAD 1 = INR 67.71, the live rate on 29 September 2026. Live rates may vary, so confirm with your bank before remitting.

Brandon University’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (September) — most programs open here.

Brandon University Eligibility for Indian Students

Eligibility at Brandon University is split into an academic floor and an English proficiency floor. The academic threshold is program-specific but sits at a modest baseline compared with research-intensive Canadian universities, which is why it remains a realistic option for Indian students carrying a mid-70s Class XII average.

Brandon University Undergraduate Academic Eligibility

  • Class XII floor: minimum five academic subjects with an overall average of C or higher, roughly translating to 60 to 65 percent on CBSE or state boards
  • Subject prerequisites: Bachelor of Science requires Mathematics and one lab science in Class XII; Bachelor of Business Administration requires Mathematics
  • Final-year applicants: a letter from the school principal confirming expected graduation before term start
  • Prior post-secondary: any college study after Class XII must be disclosed with official transcripts

Brandon University Postgraduate Academic Eligibility

  • Bachelor’s requirement: a four-year Indian bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from a UGC-recognised institution
  • Minimum CGPA: 3.0 on 4.0, roughly 65 percent or first class on Indian scales
  • Master of Education: a BEd or equivalent teacher training background is standard; applicants without a BEd are considered only in exceptional cases
  • Master of Psychiatric Nursing: a bachelor’s in psychiatric nursing and active RPN registration in Canada

Brandon University English Language Requirements

Every applicant must demonstrate English proficiency, regardless of citizenship, unless they qualify for a waiver.

Brandon University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

Brandon University publishes a medium-of-instruction (MOI) exemption that many Indian applicants qualify for without sitting IELTS. Two pathways apply:

  • Post-secondary route: three consecutive years of full-time post-secondary study where English is the language of instruction, with a minimum CGPA of 2.0
  • Degree route: a completed undergraduate degree from an accredited institution where English is the medium of instruction, with CGPA 2.0 or higher

Most Indian applicants with a full English-medium bachelor’s from a UGC-recognised university clear the second pathway. A signed MOI certificate from the university registrar is required as proof. Applicants below CGPA 2.0 must still sit IELTS or an equivalent test.

Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Brandon University page for your chosen program before applying.

Brandon University Application Process for Indian Students

Brandon University uses its own admissions portal — there is no central Canadian platform for its programs, unlike Ontario schools that route through OUAC. The process runs in six steps.

  1. Create a BU Online Application account on the BU Online Application portal and choose your intake plus program
  2. List every secondary and post-secondary institution attended, with dates
  3. Pay the application fee of CAD 140 (around INR 9,479) on the BU Online Application portal — this fee is non-refundable
  4. Upload or courier your Class XII marksheet, degree certificate, and consolidated transcript to the Admissions Office
  5. Submit English proficiency scores or an MOI certificate directly from your test provider or your university registrar
  6. Wait for the admissions email listing any additional program-specific documents

The Admissions Office begins reviewing files on 1 October 2026 for the following academic year, per the official Brandon University admissions page. Files complete by mid-October typically hear back within four to six weeks.

Brandon University Admission Decisions Timeline

Once your file is complete, the Admissions Office issues one of three outcomes — an unconditional offer, a conditional offer pending final marksheets or English scores, or a refusal. Turnaround runs about four to six weeks for complete files.

  • Offer type: conditional offers list the specific document or score still awaited
  • Acceptance deposit: the offer sets an acceptance window, typically four weeks, alongside the tuition deposit
  • Study permit letter: once you pay the deposit, Brandon University issues the Letter of Acceptance needed for the Canada study permit
  • Deferral: admitted students can request a deferral to the next intake, subject to program capacity

Insider note: Applicants who submit complete files in October or November are more likely to secure residence-hall placement, since on-campus housing at Brandon fills on a first-come basis and later admits often shift to off-campus rentals.

Brandon University Documents Required for Application

Every Indian applicant assembles the following packet. Academic percentages and English scores live in the Eligibility section — this list is paperwork only.

  • Passport bio-page: a clear colour scan valid at least until intake start
  • Class XII marksheet and passing certificate: original board-issued copies, couriered to the Admissions Office
  • Bachelor’s transcript and degree certificate: for graduate applicants only, sent directly by the issuing university
  • Certified English translations: for any document not issued in English
  • English proficiency score report or MOI certificate from the test provider or university registrar
  • Statement of Purpose: for graduate programs, outlining research interests and career goals
  • Two academic references: for graduate programs, submitted on university letterhead
  • Curriculum vitae: for graduate applicants, listing academic and work history
  • Portfolio or audition recording: for Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music, and Master of Music
  • Registered Psychiatric Nurse licence: for Master of Psychiatric Nursing applicants
  • Bank statement or affidavit of support showing funding, required at the study permit stage

Brandon University Acceptance Rate

Brandon University does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Third-party estimates place admission at roughly 50 to 70 percent, based on program-level competitiveness patterns at similar mid-sized public universities in Manitoba. This reflects a relatively access-oriented model — the university admits most applicants who clear its stated Class XII or bachelor’s floor and clear English proficiency.

What drives an acceptance decision at Brandon University

Two factors move a file from a conditional offer to a full offer. The first is documentation completeness — files with missing transcripts or unverified English scores sit in the queue, and rolling programs prioritise complete files. The second is program capacity — Bachelor of Nursing and Master of Psychiatric Nursing are the tightest, since clinical seats are capped by Manitoba’s health-authority partnerships.

Indian applicants and Brandon University’s admission pattern

Indian students who apply with a first-class Class XII certificate and either IELTS 6.5 or a clean MOI certificate report offer letters within four to six weeks. Weaker files — averages below 60 percent or IELTS below 6.0 — are the ones typically refused or asked to reapply for the next term.

Canada Study Permit for Brandon University Students

Indian students admitted to Brandon University need a Canadian study permit issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The Student Direct Stream (SDS) fast-track ended on 8 November 2024, so all Indian applicants now file through the standard stream with full documentation upfront.

Financial proof rose in September 2026 to CAD 23,448 (around INR 15.88 Lakhs) per year for living expenses outside Quebec, on top of your Brandon University tuition and one-way transportation costs. Most Indian applicants demonstrate this through a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) with a Canadian bank — Scotiabank, ICICI Canada, and SBI Canada are the popular routes. The GIC releases an initial lump sum on arrival plus monthly instalments across your first year.

The permit packet needs your Letter of Acceptance from Brandon University, a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) issued by Manitoba, GIC or bank statements, IELTS or equivalent score, biometrics, and a study plan. Processing runs roughly 4 to 16 weeks, with Indian applicants averaging around 9 weeks in 2026.

2026 update: Manitoba issues PALs on a provincial quota basis, so start the study permit application within a week of receiving your Letter of Acceptance to secure your PAL slot for the intake.

Brandon University Admissions Tips and Checklist for Indian Students

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Brandon University, with each item mapped to the specific step in the timeline where it matters most.

  • Aim for October, not April: file your complete Fall 2027 application in October 2026 to catch the first review batch and improve residence placement odds
  • Use the MOI certificate if you qualify: a signed registrar letter is faster and cheaper than sitting IELTS, and Brandon accepts it explicitly
  • Request transcripts eight weeks before the deadline: Indian boards and universities take four to six weeks to issue sealed transcripts by courier
  • Book IELTS by December 2026 (backup): if MOI does not apply, book the test at least four months before the April deadline for retake room
  • Confirm the deposit early: the UG tuition deposit of CAD 5,000 must clear before the LOA is issued for your study permit
  • Open the GIC in February 2027: the Canadian bank paperwork takes two to three weeks and is a study-permit prerequisite
  • Apply for the PAL immediately after LOA: Manitoba’s provincial quota fills up, and delay here becomes the single biggest cause of Fall intake misses
  • Track program-specific dates: MEd on 15 January 2027, BEd After Degree on 15 December 2026, Master of Music on 1 February 2027 — the general April cut-off does not apply

Applications review runs from 1 October 2026, so a submission window between mid-October and end-November is the practical sweet spot for Indian students.

The Brandon University admissions calendar is straightforward but unforgiving on documentation. Indian applicants who file complete by December for the Fall 2027 intake and start the study permit within a week of receiving their Letter of Acceptance are the ones who make the September start without a deferral. Everything else — MOI waiver, GIC, PAL — is a supporting step around those two dates.

Scholarship

  • Scholarships are merit-based. There are some fixed amounts available to students studying specific courses or in specific facilities. Scholarships range anywhere from CAD 500 to CAD CAD25,000 per semester, which would, on the high end, typically cover all expenses for a student in that semester, as the amount is “paid” to the student but needs to ensure that it is used towards education.

I really liked the town it's in and when I visited the university before I had started, it was very welcoming and nice. The school is a very good size for me and I felt I would be able to interact with professors well if I needed it.
