Capilano University Application Deadlines for Indian Students
Capilano University offers three intakes each year. Indian applicants heavily target the Fall (September) intake because most bachelor’s, diploma and post-baccalaureate programs open together in that cycle. The dates below reflect institution-wide deadlines listed on the international program availability page. A few high-demand programs close earlier once seats fill.
Capilano’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (September). The widest slate of programs opens here.
| Intake | Level | Application Deadline | App Fee | Portal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fall 2027 (September) Primary intake | UG and PG | 31 January 2027 | CAD 135 (₹9,113) | Capilano online application |
| Spring 2027 (January) | Select UG and PG | 30 September 2026 | CAD 135 (₹9,113) | Capilano online application |
| Summer 2027 (May) | Limited UG | 31 January 2027 | CAD 135 (₹9,113) | Capilano online application |
Because Capilano University reviews files as they arrive rather than in fixed rounds, Indian applicants who submit 6 to 8 weeks ahead of the deadline typically get their offer letter faster than late-window filers. Programs like Motion Picture Arts and Animation frequently close before the institution-wide date.
Planning note: Spring 2027 applications close on 30 September 2026. Indian students still eyeing that intake must submit today or roll their target to the Fall 2027 window instead.
Capilano University Eligibility Requirements for Indian Students
Capilano University uses an access-oriented model, meaning it admits most Indian applicants who clear the stated academic and English thresholds rather than filtering on class rank. Requirements differ for undergraduate versus post-baccalaureate entry, and a documented English waiver is available for a specific set of Indian applicants.
- UG general entry: Class XII from CBSE, ICSE or a recognised state board at 65 percent overall with English as a subject.
- UG GPA equivalent: Canadian floor of 2.0 on the 4.33 scale, mapping to the 65 percent Indian mark.
- PG entry: A recognised Indian bachelor’s with a minimum 3.0/4.33 CGPA, roughly 65 to 70 percent on the Indian percentage scale.
- English floor: IELTS 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 83, PTE 56, Duolingo 125 with no sub-score under 115, or CAEL 70.
- Prerequisite subjects: BBA expects Class XII Mathematics. Science and design tracks list programme-specific prerequisites on the calendar.
Capilano University IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Indian applicants can request an English test waiver using Capilano’s English Language Waiver Form, submitted alongside the application. The waiver is open to students who studied Class XI and Class XII in an English-medium school with English marks above 70 percent, and to applicants holding a post-secondary qualification taught entirely in English. Review is case-by-case, not automatic, so a valid IELTS or Duolingo score remains the faster route.
Insider note: Waiver approval hinges on the letter your Indian school issues confirming English as the sole medium of instruction. Board-issued letters convert faster than principal-signed letters.
Capilano University PG Programs and English Scores
Capilano University does not offer a research master’s, MBA or PhD. It runs a compact set of post-baccalaureate certificates and graduate diplomas aimed at Indian applicants who already hold a bachelor’s degree. Programs are one to two years, cohort-based, and taught out of the North Vancouver campus. Base tuition for postgraduate certificates sits in the CAD 18,000 to 25,000 per year band (₹12.15 Lakhs to ₹16.88 Lakhs). See the detailed fee breakdown for other tracks.

| North American and International Management Graduate Diploma | 2 years | Bachelor’s with 3.0 CGPA in any discipline | IELTS 6.5 |

Business and management post-baccalaureate diplomas are the highest-volume PG entry route for Indian applicants at Capilano University. Each of these programmes is listed on the international availability page as PGWP-eligible, which means graduates can apply for a three-year Post-Graduation Work Permit after completion.
Note: Program-specific entry requirements, fees, and intake availability may differ from the institution-wide minimums shown above. Always confirm on the official Capilano University page for your chosen program before applying.
Capilano University Bachelor’s Program Options for Indian Students
Capilano University runs 18 bachelor’s degrees and roughly 100 diplomas and certificates across five faculties. Indian applicants are strongest in Business, Motion Picture Arts, Animation and Communication Studies streams. Each of these places graduates on the three-year Post-Graduation Work Permit route. Base tuition for the BBA is CAD 19,707 per year (₹13.30 Lakhs). Other undergraduate tracks vary within the CAD 18,000 to 25,000 band.
| Programme | Duration | Minimum Eligibility | English Req. Min. |

| Bachelor of Performing Arts | 4 years | Class XII at 65 percent plus audition | IELTS 6.5 |
Diploma programs such as Interactive Design, Jazz Studies and 2D-3D Animation open to Class XII graduates at 60 percent. These remain popular with Indian applicants who want a shorter, portfolio-driven route into the Vancouver creative industry before laddering into a bachelor’s.
Capilano University Application Process for Indian Students
Capilano University processes international applications online through its own applicant portal. The steps below are the standard sequence for Indian applicants filing from India. Files are reviewed as they arrive, so submitting early yields a faster offer letter.
- Create an applicant profile on the Capilano online application portal and pick a target intake and programme.
- Pay the application fee of CAD 135 (₹9,113) on the Capilano online application portal via international card or bank transfer.
- Upload Class XII marksheets, bachelor’s transcripts if applicable, and a valid English test score.
- Portfolios or auditions upload separately for Motion Picture Arts, Animation, Performing Arts and Interactive Design.
- Track your file inside the portal and respond to any document requests within 14 days.
- Once a conditional offer arrives, pay the CAD 5,000 tuition deposit (₹3.38 Lakhs) to hold your seat.
- Request the Provincial Attestation Letter from the international office, then file the Canadian study permit.
Capilano University routes all international files through its own portal rather than a shared application service. Keep your applicant ID handy for every follow-up email, and confirm the applicant-portal email address is not being caught by your Indian ISP spam filter.
Capilano University Admission Decisions and Offer Timeline
Capilano University sends most decisions within 4 to 8 weeks of a complete file for standard-review programmes. Portfolio-based programmes such as Motion Picture Arts and Animation can take up to 12 weeks because the faculty panel reviews creative work separately from the academic file.
- Conditional offer: Issued when your file meets thresholds but is missing a final document, such as a pending IELTS retake.
- Full offer: Issued once every condition clears. This is the letter used for the Canadian study permit file.
- Deposit deadline: The CAD 5,000 deposit (₹3.38 Lakhs) is due within the date printed on the offer letter, usually 30 to 45 days.
- Deferral policy: Indian applicants can defer once to the next open intake at no additional cost, subject to programme availability.
Insider note: The Capilano deposit is non-refundable except in narrow cases like study permit refusal, and India is one of seven countries with specific refund rules. Read the deposit clause on your offer letter before wiring the amount.
Capilano University Documents Required for Indian Applicants
Every document below is uploaded inside the Capilano applicant portal in PDF form. Physical originals are not required at the application stage. The university will ask for certified hard copies only when you enrol on campus in North Vancouver.
- Valid Indian passport bio page with more than six months of validity from your intended arrival date.
- Class X and Class XII marksheets and passing certificates from CBSE, ICSE or your state board.
- Bachelor’s transcripts and consolidated marksheets for postgraduate applicants, plus the degree or provisional certificate.
- Recent English test score report or the completed English Language Waiver Form with supporting evidence.
- Statement of Purpose covering programme choice, career goal and reason for choosing Vancouver.
- One to two letters of recommendation for postgraduate certificates. Not mandatory for most undergraduate entries.
- Digital passport-size photograph and a signed applicant declaration form.
- Portfolio, showreel or audition file for Motion Picture Arts, Animation, Performing Arts and Interactive Design applicants.
- Work experience letters for the Community Development post-baccalaureate diploma and other experience-linked tracks.
Planning note: Start transcript attestation with your Indian board or university at least 8 weeks before the target deadline. Delayed attestation is the single most common reason Indian files miss the Fall cycle.
Capilano University Acceptance Rate for Indian Students
Capilano University does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Independent estimates place the admit rate at roughly 60 to 70 percent, based on reporting patterns typical of Canadian teaching-focused universities with access-oriented admissions. Programs with capped studios run notably tighter than the institution-wide figure.
What raises a Capilano University application above the rest?
Files that read as ready for the Vancouver classroom on day one convert fastest. Concretely, that means a Class XII record above 70 percent, an IELTS at 7.0 overall, and a Statement of Purpose that names the specific programme and pathway rather than a generic pitch about Canada.
Capilano University Portfolio Program Odds for Indian Students
For Motion Picture Arts and 2D-3D Animation the studio caps mean admit rates trend closer to 20 to 35 percent for international applicants. A strong portfolio outranks a strong GPA in these tracks. Non-portfolio programmes like BBA and Tourism Management run at the higher end of the institution-wide band. Recent Indian admits on Capilano University student reviews average Class XII marks in the 72 to 78 percent range.
Canada Student Visa Process for Capilano University Applicants
Indian applicants admitted to Capilano University file a Canadian study permit under the standard IRCC process. The Letter of Acceptance from Capilano is the anchor document. The file goes to the Visa Application Centre in India after online submission through the IRCC secure portal.
The 2024 study permit cap continues into 2027 cycles, so a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) from British Columbia is required alongside the Letter of Acceptance. Capilano University issues the PAL request through the international office once the tuition deposit clears. Applicants must show proof of funds covering one year of tuition plus the Student Direct Stream GIC of CAD 20,635 (₹13.93 Lakhs), and complete biometrics at the nearest VAC. Capilano’s institutional profile and ranking band support faster SDS review for Indian files.
2026 update: IRCC processing for Indian study permits under the Student Direct Stream averages 4 to 6 weeks in 2026, versus 8 to 12 weeks on the general stream. File biometrics within 30 days of your online application to avoid a re-request.
Tips and Application Checklist for Capilano University
The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at Capilano University. They prioritise the sequencing that keeps files on time for the Fall primary intake and the Canadian study permit window that follows.
- Book IELTS 12 weeks out: Retake windows are 5 weeks, leaving room for one repeat.
- Apply by mid-October for Fall 2027: Filing 12 to 14 weeks before 31 January 2027 lands your offer by December.
- Portfolio applicants finish reels first: Motion Picture Arts and Animation panels review reels before the academic file.
- Start transcript attestation early: Request board transcripts 8 weeks before deadline. State boards take longer than CBSE.
- Confirm PGWP eligibility before choosing: Only programmes on the international availability page carry PGWP.
- Hold the deposit ready: The CAD 5,000 deposit (₹3.38 Lakhs) is due 30 to 45 days after offer.
- File study permit within 2 weeks of deposit: This keeps Student Direct Stream timelines tight enough for orientation week.
- Check funding early: The automatic IEPA gives CAD 1,800 per semester (₹1.22 Lakhs) for admits above 2.5 GPA, see funding for Indian students.
- Confirm PAL request timing: Trigger the Provincial Attestation Letter the day your deposit clears, not after.
Capilano University’s Fall 2027 intake stays open until 31 January 2027. Indian applicants who target the eight-week checkpoint of mid-October filing, mid-December decision and mid-January deposit consistently avoid the study-permit crunch.
Capilano University’s admissions run on rolling review, an access-oriented model, and a Fall primary intake that closes 31 January 2027. Indian applicants who file 12 to 14 weeks early, keep IELTS at 6.5, and hold the CAD 5,000 deposit ready convert offers into landed study permits on time.

Overview
Limited amount of film schools in Western Canada. Only about 4 in particularly in Vancouver where the film industry is most prevalent. Cheapest tuition (still very expensive) of all of the options available. The bonus was that the program included its own equipment and studio which allowed everyone to work on projects locally.
Overview
The university is Close to home, the admission process involves writing about volunteer and work experiences, extra-curricular activities. I had to write 2 essays. I graduated high school with an average above 95%. This was the only school I applied to as I knew I would get in and I planned to transfer out after a year or two.
Scholarship
I won a memorial scholarship valued at around two thousand dollars. I had to write an essay for it. I did not apply for any student loans as I have an RESP and I did not want to go into unnecessary debts as a result of taking out student loans.
Overview
In my case, I chose Capilano University to get transfer credits towards another institution since I have heard good things about their transfer program to other British Columbia universities, colleges.
Scholarship
During my process, I didn't ask for any scholarships or bursaries although there is a lot of opportunities for students with different criteria.
