- Tuition after IEPA renewal at 3.5 GPA: CAD 16,107 per year (INR 10.99 Lakhs)

- Next live deadline: IEPA Spring 2027 intake, September 30, 2026
Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 CAD = INR 68.20 as of August 2026. Amounts labelled "per credit" apply to Capilano’s per-credit tuition model, where a full-time semester equals 12 credits.

Capilano University Scholarships for UG Students
Undergraduate scholarships at Capilano University split into automatic awards (IEPA) and competitive awards that need a separate application. Indian students entering Fall or Spring intakes qualify for both routes.
| Scholarship | Amount (CAD) | Amount (INR) | Eligibility | Deadline (2026-27) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| International Entrance and Performance Award (IEPA) | 150 per credit; up to 18,000 across 4 years | INR 10,230 per credit; up to INR 12.28 Lakhs over 4 years | 2.5 GPA on 4.33 to earn; 3.5 GPA to renew | June 12, 2026 (Fall closed); September 30, 2026 (Spring 2027) |
| Capilano Excellence Scholarship (CAPX) | Up to 56,000 over 4 years | Up to INR 38.19 Lakhs | Top academic record plus documented community leadership | March 1, 2027 |
| International Student Entrance Award | 1,500 one-time; 3 slots | INR 1.02 Lakhs | Entering international UG students with financial need | March 1, 2027 |
| Capilano Community Leadership Award (CCLA) | 2,500 one-time | INR 1.71 Lakhs | Community involvement plus academic merit | March 1, 2027 |
| Atomic Cartoons Entrance Scholarship | 5,000 one-time | INR 3.41 Lakhs | Applicants to Animation or Bachelor of Motion Picture Arts | March 1, 2027 |
The IEPA is the only automatic award: Capilano applies it directly once the applicant clears a 2.5 GPA on the 4.33 scale. Every other UG award needs the online scholarship form on the CapU portal after admission.
Reddit Insight: Indian students on r/CapilanoU flag that IEPA renewal cuts off sharply at 3.5 GPA. Missing the threshold by even 0.05 loses the full CAD 1,800 semester payment with no partial payout or one-time grace.
Indian applicants targeting the CAPX shortlist should time the Grade 12 board result submission for late June, matching the CAPX committee’s July shortlisting window. Prior year data from Capilano’s donor report suggests 20 offers per cycle across all nationalities. See the full stream list on the Capilano University Programs page.
Capilano University Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students
Capilano runs a limited postgraduate portfolio led by the MA in International Business Management, plus post-baccalaureate diplomas in accounting, marketing and business analytics. Graduate-level scholarship options are narrower than the UG shelf.
| Scholarship | Amount (CAD) | Amount (INR) | Eligibility | Deadline (2026-27) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Capilano University Graduate Program Entrance Award | 2,000 to 5,000 one-time | INR 1.36 to INR 3.41 Lakhs | Preference for MA International Business Management applicants | Rolling; tentative March 31 and October 31, 2027 |
| Beedie Luminaries Single Parent Awards | 10,000 one-time | INR 6.82 Lakhs | Single-parent students with financial need; open to international | April 22, 2027 |
| Post-Baccalaureate Diploma Entrance Award (departmental) | 1,000 to 2,500 per stream | INR 68,200 to INR 1.71 Lakhs | Nominated by the receiving School (Business, Communication) | Rolling; tentative September 30, 2026 and February 28, 2027 |
The Graduate Program Entrance Award is the only Capilano-funded scholarship written specifically for master’s applicants. Every postgraduate applicant should also target the external federal and provincial routes covered later in this article.
Reddit Insight: Indian MA IBM students on the r/CanadaVisa thread report the departmental entrance award decision drops within 45 days of admission acceptance. Applicants who accept their offer before February 15 receive the award confirmation before the study permit filing window opens.
India-Specific Scholarships at Capilano University
Capilano University does not run a scholarship reserved solely for Indian nationality. Indian applicants qualify for every international award listed above, plus several India-open external funds routed through the Government of India and private Indian trusts.
| Scholarship | Level | Amount | Amount (INR) | Deadline (2026-27) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| National Overseas Scholarship (Ministry of Social Justice, GoI) | PG and PhD | Full tuition plus USD 15,400 stipend | Full tuition plus INR 12.90 Lakhs stipend | March 31, 2027 (tentative) |
| Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation Scholarship | PG only | Up to USD 100,000 | Up to INR 83.80 Lakhs | April 4, 2027 (tentative) |
| K.C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies Abroad | PG | Up to INR 10 Lakhs (interest-free loan grant) | INR 10 Lakhs | March 31, 2027 (tentative) |
| Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship | PG | 50% grant plus 50% loan of total cost | Coverage varies with programme | March 31, 2027 (tentative) |
| J.N. Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship | UG, PG, PhD | INR 1 to INR 10 Lakhs loan plus INR 7,500 gift | INR 1 to INR 10 Lakhs | March 24, 2027 (tentative) |
None of these external funds disqualify Indian applicants from stacking with the IEPA or CAPX at Capilano. J.N. Tata is the most flexible because it funds diploma, UG and PG streams. Inlaks caps at applicants under 30 with a first-class UG record.
Capilano University PhD Scholarships
Capilano University does not offer doctoral programs. Indian applicants targeting a PhD-level pathway have two realistic routes. Route one: enrol in the MA International Business Management at Capilano first, then transfer to a research-intensive Canadian university. Route two: apply directly to a PhD-issuing school and use the external doctoral funds below.
| Route | Funding Vehicle | Amount (CAD) | Amount (INR) | Access Path |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Master’s at CapU then doctoral transfer | Graduate Program Entrance Award plus Vanier CGS at doctoral host | 2,000 to 5,000 at CapU; 50,000 per year Vanier | INR 1.36 to INR 3.41 Lakhs then INR 34.10 Lakhs per year | Complete MA IBM, then apply to UBC, SFU or McGill |
| Direct PhD at Canadian research university | Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship | 50,000 per year for 3 years | INR 34.10 Lakhs per year | Nominated by doctoral-issuing institution; not through CapU |
| Direct PhD at Canadian research university | Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship | 60,000 per year for 4 years | INR 40.92 Lakhs per year | Social sciences and humanities focus areas |
Indian applicants planning to reach a doctorate should treat Capilano as a two-year graduate springboard rather than a terminal qualification. British Columbia based research universities routinely accept CapU MA graduates who post a 3.7+ GPA. Read the intake criteria on the Capilano University Admissions page before applying.
External Government Scholarships for Capilano University Applicants
Federal Canadian and British Columbia provincial funds add a second layer on top of Capilano’s internal awards. Most Government of Canada scholarships route through Global Affairs Canada and require nomination by the receiving Canadian institution. File the CapU nomination request soon after receiving the admission letter.
| Scholarship | Level | Amount (CAD) | Amount (INR) | Deadline (2026-27) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Study in Canada Scholarships (Global Affairs Canada) | UG and PG short-term exchange | 10,200 for 4 to 6 months | INR 6.96 Lakhs | Nomination via CapU; tentative March 24, 2027 |
| Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) | UG and PG short-term | 7,200 for 4 months; 10,200 for 5-6 months | INR 4.91 to INR 6.96 Lakhs | Nomination via CapU; tentative March 24, 2027 |
| Queen Elizabeth Scholars (QES) Program | UG and PG mobility | 6,000 to 30,000 depending on stream | INR 4.09 to INR 20.46 Lakhs | Rolling; tentative April 30, 2027 |
| Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute Fellowships | PG and PhD research | 4,000 to 12,000 | INR 2.73 to INR 8.18 Lakhs | Multiple cycles; tentative March 31 and September 30, 2027 |
| British Columbia Graduate Scholarship (province) | PG only at research institutions | 15,000 per year | INR 10.23 Lakhs per year | Institutional nomination; tentative January 31, 2027 |
Global Affairs Canada awards route through the receiving institution. Indian applicants must:
- Confirm the CapU admission letter arrives at least 8 weeks before the scholarship deadline
- Email Capilano’s International Programs office requesting a nomination package
- Submit the SICS Portal application in the language of the deadline cycle (English or French)
- Track the country quota through the Global Affairs Canada monthly update on their portal
Reddit Insight: Canadian scholarship threads warn that Global Affairs Canada awards close 4-6 weeks before the public deadline once the country quota fills. Indian students should push Capilano’s international office for a nomination decision within 10 days of the admission letter.

Capilano University Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What is the maximum scholarship funding an Indian student can stack at Capilano University?
Ans. An Indian undergraduate stacks CAPX (CAD 56,000 over four years, INR 38.19 Lakhs) with the automatic IEPA (CAD 18,000 total, INR 12.28 Lakhs). Adding a departmental award such as Atomic Cartoons (CAD 5,000, INR 3.41 Lakhs) pushes the total near CAD 79,000 (INR 53.88 Lakhs) across the degree. Postgraduate applicants stack the Graduate Program Entrance Award (CAD 5,000) with the Beedie Luminaries Single Parent grant (CAD 10,000) where eligible.
Ques. When should Indian applicants apply for Capilano scholarships?
Ans. File the CapU admission application at least 90 days before the intake so the scholarship module unlocks in the applicant portal. For the Spring 2027 intake, submit before September 30, 2026 to keep IEPA eligibility open. The competitive awards including CAPX, CCLA and the International Student Entrance Award all close March 1, 2027 for the following academic year.
Ques. Are Capilano University scholarships automatic or do Indian students apply separately?
Ans. Only the International Entrance and Performance Award applies automatically once admission is confirmed and the applicant clears a 2.5 GPA on the 4.33 scale. Every other award needs a separate application through the Capilano Awards Portal after activating the myCapU account. The portal opens each cycle around November 1 and shuts on March 1.
Ques. How competitive is the Capilano Excellence Scholarship (CAPX) for Indian applicants?
Ans. CAPX awards up to 20 offers per cycle across all nationalities; Indian applicants have won 3 to 5 spots based on the recent Capilano donor report. The selection board weights unweighted GPA above 3.7 on the 4.33 scale, plus documented community leadership over the previous two years. Awardees receive CAD 14,000 per year for four years, contingent on maintaining a 3.5 GPA and 24 credits of enrolment each year.
Ques. Does the IEPA cover living costs in North Vancouver?
Ans. The IEPA pays CAD 1,800 per semester (INR 1.23 Lakhs), which offsets tuition rather than rent or groceries. North Vancouver rent for a shared apartment runs CAD 1,100 to CAD 1,500 monthly (INR 75,000 to INR 1.02 Lakhs). Indian students should budget an additional CAD 14,000 per year (INR 9.55 Lakhs) for living costs beyond the IEPA cushion.
Ques. What GPA does an Indian student need to renew the IEPA every semester?
Ans. Capilano renews the IEPA only when a student closes each semester at 3.5 GPA on the 4.33 scale with a full 12-credit load. Missing either threshold cancels the payment for the next semester with no partial award. Students who recover their GPA above 3.5 later can regain the IEPA by re-applying through the Awards Portal.

This university offers many things like a good education, various activities, and a beautiful location. It’s average. The vibe is great but sometimes it feels like a lot of discrimination.
CapU has given me a lot of opportunities to work and analyze different business sectors. Sometimes those challenging courses are the most fun because it triggers the critical thinking. CapU is the best.

Firstly and most importantly, Capilano University instilled practical experience in terms of education as well as personal growth. The university provided a great platform to have the exposure to practical learning wherein it teaches you how to deal with corporate of real business life experience. It provided the opportunity to interact with people from around the globe. That teaches one to learn about each other's cultures and their experiences as well.

- There was nothing which I could state about disliking Capilano University because the university provided with a lot of opportunities. It not only provided education in the simplest and most exciting way but it also gave a platform to socialize within the university in the best possible way where you can enjoy as well as learn.
My overall experience has been "wow". People may think this is exaggeration, but honestly advising and suggesting, it is the best institute/university one could pursue their education.

- Capilano University is beautiful and is at a very serene location. It has many schools offering alot of different courses, be it Science, Business or Arts. Other then studies, the university has a lot to offer in terms of co curricular, student unions, sports.
Dislikes
- I liked everything about it. There was nothing as such I disliked, because academics and extra curriculars are given equal standards making it an all rounder space for the students. Great exposure and great faculty made the entire journey amazing.
Overall, my experience at Capilano University was great. The fellow students, faculties, student union members, everyone was so welcoming. It was a great journey and I learnt a lot and spent many fun times there.

Capilano University is a top ranked Public University which is best part because it ticks all ypur aspirations of work permit to further PR, secondly the program NABU Applied gives you a co-op visa thats basically you will have 1 year of classes and 2nd year full time internship/job. Which again helps you gain points fot PGWP of 3 year . So, best program with all maximum benifit a international student might require to fulfill his aspirations.
Limited amount of film schools in Western Canada. Only about 4 in particularly in Vancouver where the film industry is most prevalent. Cheapest tuition (still very expensive) of all of the options available. The bonus was that the program included its own equipment and studio which allowed everyone to work on projects locally.
Scholarship
I won a memorial scholarship valued at around two thousand dollars. I had to write an essay for it. I did not apply for any student loans as I have an RESP and I did not want to go into unnecessary debts as a result of taking out student loans.
The university is Close to home, the admission process involves writing about volunteer and work experiences, extra-curricular activities. I had to write 2 essays. I graduated high school with an average above 95%. This was the only school I applied to as I knew I would get in and I planned to transfer out after a year or two.
Scholarship
During my process, I didn't ask for any scholarships or bursaries although there is a lot of opportunities for students with different criteria.
In my case, I chose Capilano University to get transfer credits towards another institution since I have heard good things about their transfer program to other British Columbia universities, colleges.
