University of Guelph Eligibility for Indian Students
Guelph assesses Indian applicants on three stacked thresholds: an academic average, a program prerequisite match, and English proficiency. Most undergraduate programs accept a Class XII average of 80 percent or higher from CBSE, ISC, or a State Board, with higher cut-offs for Computing, Engineering, and Veterinary tracks. Master’s programs typically require a four-year Bachelor’s with a B average (75 percent) in the final two years of study.
Program-specific prerequisites apply at the undergraduate level:
- Bachelor of Engineering: Class XII with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at 80 percent plus
- Bachelor of Computing: Class XII Mathematics at a strong grade, overall 80 percent plus
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine: Pre-vet science with Biology and Chemistry, highly competitive cut-off
- Bachelor of Commerce: Class XII at 80 percent, Mathematics preferred for finance and economics streams
English Proficiency Scores for University of Guelph
Indian applicants whose medium of instruction was not English, or who have fewer than four years of English-medium secondary or post-secondary study, must submit a test score no older than two years. Guelph accepts six tests at the floors below.

|---|---|---|---|

University of Guelph IELTS Waiver for Indian Students
Indian applicants can skip IELTS or TOEFL on two documented pathways. The first applies if the student has four or more years of full-time study at an English-language secondary or post-secondary institution, which covers CBSE and ISC school leavers from English-medium schools when documented on official school letterhead. The second applies to International Baccalaureate diploma holders where English was the language of instruction.
For those below the test floor, the English Language Certificate Program (ELCP) Advanced level at Guelph meets both undergraduate and graduate English requirements. A Guaranteed Admission Pathway combines ELCP with Open Learning courses for the Bachelor of Commerce and Arts streams, needing an 80 percent plus average in ELCP levels 7-8 or 8-9.
Insider note: Guelph revised its TOEFL floor to 4.5 overall with 4.0 per section from January 21, 2026, reflecting the shift to the shorter TOEFL Essentials format. Scores issued before that date still follow the 89 overall and 21 per section rule.

University of Guelph MBA Admissions
The Lang MBA runs out of the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics in two formats for Indian students. The 1-year on-campus MBA targets career changers and recent graduates. The 2-year online MBA is designed for working professionals and does not qualify for a Canadian study permit, which rules it out for most India-based applicants.
Lang MBA Entry Requirements
The core academic bar is a four-year undergraduate degree with a minimum B- average in the final two years, which maps to roughly 70 percent in Indian terms. Business graduates and holders of CPA, CFA, or PMP designations may receive an entry waiver on specific course prerequisites. GMAT and GRE are not required for the Lang MBA.
- OUAC application: January 15, 2027 for the Summer 2027 start of the 1-year on-campus MBA
- Supporting documents: February 1, 2027
- Final international documents: April 1, 2027
- Work experience: Not required for 1-year on-campus, three plus years of supervisory experience for 2-year online
- Interview: Not formally required, but strong candidates may be invited to a program-fit conversation
Base tuition for the Lang MBA 1-year on-campus is CAD 41,774 (around INR 27.92 Lakhs) across the full program, with the application fee at CAD 150 (around INR 10,023). For funding specific to Lang MBA Indian students, check our funding for Indian students page.
University of Guelph PhD Admissions
Guelph supports doctoral research across 50 plus PhD programs, with the strongest Indian student demand in Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Food Science, and Computer Science. Admission is supervisor-led, meaning you need a faculty member’s confirmation of availability before applying through OUAC Graduate.
PhD Entry Pattern for Indian Applicants
Direct-entry PhD typically requires a master’s degree with a B+ (78 percent) average and a published research record or thesis. A Bachelor’s-to-PhD fast-track is possible in a few departments for applicants with an A- (80 percent) average and strong research output. English proficiency floors match the master’s requirements (IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 89).
Guelph PhD Funding and Timeline
Most Guelph PhD students receive a guaranteed funding package covering tuition plus a research stipend, usually built from a supervisor’s grant, a graduate teaching assistantship, and the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS). Application deadlines are program-specific, with most PhD intakes running Fall and Winter cycles. Confirm the funding offer with your prospective supervisor before completing the application.
University of Guelph Application Process
The Guelph application is a sequenced OUAC-to-WebAdvisor flow. Graduate applicants receive WebAdvisor credentials within five business days of application and have five business days to upload documents. Undergraduate OUAC 105 applicants submit documents by a separate May 22, 2027 deadline for Fall 2027.
- Shortlist your target program and confirm prerequisites against the University of Guelph requirements page
- Create an account on OUAC 105 (undergraduate) or the OUAC Graduate portal and complete the application form
- Pay the application fee of CAD 156 (around INR 10,424) for undergraduate OUAC applications or CAD 125 (around INR 8,353) for standard graduate programs on the OUAC portal
- Receive your University of Guelph WebAdvisor credentials within five business days
- Upload transcripts, SOP, LORs, English score report, and passport ID through WebAdvisor
- Nominated referees submit assessment forms directly to Guelph
- Track the admission portal for conditional or unconditional offers, which typically arrive within 6 to 12 weeks of file completeness
- Accept the offer by June 1, 2027 for Fall intake, and pay the CAD 2,000 tuition deposit (around INR 1.34 Lakhs) by June 15, 2027
- Request your Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) from Guelph admissions after accepting the offer
- File the Canadian study permit with your PAL, Letter of Acceptance, and financial proof
Guelph issues admission decisions on a rolling basis after each document window closes.
Documents Required for University of Guelph Admission
Guelph document requirements are consistent across undergraduate and graduate pathways, with program-specific additions for MBA, DVM, Landscape Architecture, and research master’s. Submit all documents as PDFs through WebAdvisor within five business days of your application.
- Passport bio-page, valid at least six months beyond program start
- Class XII marksheet and provisional pass certificate for undergraduate, Bachelor’s degree transcripts for graduate
- Statement of Purpose, typically 500 to 1,000 words, naming research or career fit
- Two academic Letters of Recommendation for graduate (three for some PhD departments)
- Curriculum Vitae listing publications, projects, and work experience
- English proficiency score report (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, CAEL, Duolingo, or MELAB)
- Program-specific extras such as a GMAT upload for MBA, portfolio for Landscape Architecture, or writing sample for research master’s
- Financial affidavit or sponsor letter, needed later for the Canadian study permit application
Transcripts must be issued directly by your institution. Guelph accepts digitally-signed PDFs from most Indian universities and CBSE, with original hard copies verified post-arrival for registration.
University of Guelph Acceptance Rate
University of Guelph does not publish an institutional acceptance rate. Third-party trackers put the overall admission probability at around 66 percent, based on Ontario comprehensive-university patterns, which places Guelph as moderately selective within the Canadian system. Acceptance varies sharply by program.
University of Guelph Veterinary Admission Odds
The Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) is Guelph’s most competitive program. QS ranks Guelph’s Veterinary Science fifth globally and first in Canada for three consecutive years. Fewer than one in ten pre-vet applicants typically clear the final DVM cut, and international seats are limited.
Computing and Engineering Selectivity at Guelph
Bachelor of Computing and Bachelor of Engineering admit around 80 percent of qualified applicants, but hold the effective cut-off at 85 to 88 percent Class XII average for the strongest sub-tracks. Food Science and Agriculture run with lighter competition and welcome 80 percent applicants.
Insider note: Guelph’s agriculture, environmental sciences, and food science entry windows historically see fewer Indian applicants than Computing or Business tracks, which lifts your admission odds inside those majors even at the standard 80 percent cut-off. Pair this with the fifth-ranked veterinary program for a strong life-sciences path.
For verified ranking tables and five years of QS and Times Higher Education data, see our University of Guelph ranking band.
Canada Student Visa for University of Guelph Students
Indian students admitted to Guelph apply for a Canadian Study Permit through IRCC after accepting the offer. The core permit fee is CAD 150 (around INR 10,023), plus CAD 85 (around INR 5,680) for biometrics. The Student Direct Stream (SDS) that previously fast-tracked Indian applicants was discontinued by IRCC in November 2024, so all Indian students now file through the regular study permit stream.
The regular stream expects a complete file: Letter of Acceptance from Guelph, Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) issued by Ontario through Guelph, biometrics, a Guaranteed Investment Certificate or equivalent financial proof covering first-year living costs, academic transcripts, and a Statement of Purpose. From January 1, 2026, select graduate students at Ontario universities are exempt from the PAL requirement, so confirm your category with Guelph admissions. Processing for Indian applicants currently runs 8 to 14 weeks on the regular stream.
Planning note: Ontario’s 2026 PAL allocation sits at 104,780 letters, with 70,074 reserved for postsecondary study permits, so request your PAL within 48 hours of accepting your Guelph offer to secure a slot before the provincial cap tightens.
Tips for University of Guelph Admissions
The following tips are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at University of Guelph in the past three admission cycles.
- Apply in October or November 2026 for Fall 2027, since Ontario’s PAL cap tightens through the cycle
- Target the Fall 2027 primary intake, which opens the widest range of programs and scholarships
- Keep your Class XII provisional at 85 percent plus for Computing, Engineering, and competitive Science majors
- Secure IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 per band at least four months before your document deadline
- Request your English-medium instruction letter early, since it unlocks the IELTS waiver for most CBSE and ISC school leavers
- For PhD, email prospective supervisors three to six months ahead of applying to confirm funded supervision
- Write a Statement of Purpose that names Guelph-specific research centres or faculty, not generic Canada statements
University of Guelph Admissions Checklist
The following steps cover what Indian applicants typically complete between September 2026 and offer acceptance for the Fall 2027 intake.
- Request Class XII and Bachelor’s transcripts eight weeks before the application deadline
- Book the IELTS or Duolingo English Test at least four months before document deadline
- Approach three academic referees twelve weeks ahead and share your SOP draft with them
- Create your OUAC account by December 2026 for Fall UG or Lang MBA applications
- Submit the OUAC application by May 15, 2027 for Fall UG, January 15, 2027 for Lang MBA
- Upload all documents to WebAdvisor within five business days of application
- Accept your Guelph offer by June 1, 2027 and pay the CAD 2,000 (around INR 1.34 Lakhs) deposit by June 15, 2027
University of Guelph admissions reward Indian applicants who treat the Fall 2027 primary intake as the real deadline and move at least six months before the May 2027 cut-off. The 80 percent Class XII floor, IELTS 6.5, OUAC pipeline, and faculty-aligned SOP are the four levers that convert a good profile into an offer, and the PAL and study permit sequence should start the week the offer arrives.

- I was quite late at my application, which missed my chance to get into the university I preferred the most, but I accepted the offer from this university being a reputed one along with its location being in a area where I can found huge Indian community which helped me ease my journey.
- No pressure to study, if you wish to attend the lecture you can or you can leave , you just need to focus on assignments or some in-class exams. So I liked this as studying should never be a compulsion.
Dislikes
- The way of teaching through PPTs is what I dislike about my university or any other Canadian college or university as there should be some better approach.
Overview
Canadian study experience is very different from one back in India. So I won't recommend my university much. Because students basically focus here to complete the masters and get a job to stay back here. If you actually want to study then I recommend getting into much more good university, and if your focus is also to stay here then you can get into this.

if you had to submit SoP, LoRs, CV - No never submitted one so I have no knowledge on such topic For the scholarship. Also they offered dual credentials such as a diploma and a degree I do very much enjoy the school and the profs for the most part. I never really found any of the courses that appealing to me but I obviously study it either way and get through it. The students are friendly but not very intelligent as I would have expected

An entrance scholarship of $3000/year automatically applied to the final average.

- I choose this university because I saw the program was really good and it was in a peaceful and Canada's third most safest city Guelph. I personally like peaceful natural cities and guelph is one of them. Moreover this university has a huge diversity and i got opportunity to collaborate with a lot of different people belonging to different nationality apart from Indians.

Awesome, apart from expensive course I think the course is very well designed program director and all are very supportive and instructors are well versed with awesome campus facilities. so I don't regret taking admission in this university.

- The campus is beautiful, large, the motto of university is to ‘improve life’, psychology program is great, and the rank is 482 (world rank).

I have been doing great in every area- study, mental health, finances, etc. The library support and counselling support services are awesome at the University.

- My rational for choosing the program was the interesting breakdown of the program. The courses aligned with my interests in being a food industry professional. There were many relatives in Guelph and moving here would help me feel home away from home.
- The amazing people and hostile environment about the University is great to talk about. You get to meet and connect with people from diverse backgrounds and work experiences.
- This platform of knowledge transfer molded me to have better communication and improved social networking in my non-academic life.
Dislikes
- Honestly, there is nothing I like I dislike about the University. A drawback to my transition in the University of Guelph, would be the first snow that was inconvenient while transiting to classes.
- The online classes during COVID period prevented much one on one meetings in person and communication was broken many times.
Overview
I was able to be molded into a professional maturity with a sense of food safety leadership. The experience is life long lasting and can be applied to any food industry in the world.

- Location. Guelph is hub of Mechanical/ automotive industry , and it helped me After my graduation. Within a week I got my field job
- Variety of courses, campus and material availability with good research facilities. There is no specific type that particular course is available for particular course only. We can choose any course we like it's irrelevant of any stream.
Dislikes
- Fees little bit high and they keep increasing it every year. Every semester has different fees, in my opinion it should be same for every sem. If you are doing MENG , it's not that worth compared to MASC.

Because of the amount of liberty we have in choosing courses in our program. I can choose to take very diverse courses which may or may not contribute to my major or minor. Also in the engineering sciences, there is an emphasis on design which was really intriguing to me.

Yes. I got the entrance scholarship of 7500 CAD/year and renewable with 4000 CAD/ year.
