The Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) was established in the month of August, 1957 along with an aim to achieve the objectives of providing comprehensive Undergraduate & Postgraduate, medical & paramedical education in various subjects or to develop the facilities for training, research, screening, treatment, diagnosis, rehabilitation, palliative and preventive care for the society. Earlier the institute was known as the Karnataka Medical College in Hubli but now it has been renamed as Karnataka Institute of Medical Science, which is situated on Pune to Bangalore National Highway, Vidyanagar, Hubli. KIMS offers some of the major super speciality services like Nephrology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Pediatric surgery for their students. It has been recognized by the status of Institute of Excellence and also as a Training Center for W.H.O. Fellowship. The Cardia Cath Lab was provided by the Government of Karnataka so that the institute can develop as a Regional Cardiology Center. The KIMS Art Center has been recognized and is being developed as the Nodal Center for the entire North Karnataka as well as surrounding region.
