SVCE Chennai B.Tech {Lateral}: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. Diploma holders in computer science, information technology, electronics and communication, biotechnology, and chemical engineering are eligible for their respective B.Tech lateral specialisation at SVCE. The diploma must be from a recognised board. Candidates with a related diploma may also be considered for cross-stream admission subject to Anna University norms.

Ans. The total fee for all B.Tech Lateral Entry specialisations at SVCE is INR 5,58,000 for three years, payable at INR 1,86,000 per year. This covers tuition and development charges. Hostel fees are payable separately. Tamil Nadu SC and ST students benefit from government fee concessions.

Ans. TNEA lateral rank for B.Tech Lateral Entry admission is computed from diploma marks in the relevant engineering discipline. Unlike regular TNEA which uses HSC marks, the lateral rank is based entirely on diploma percentage. Seat allotment follows Anna University counselling norms, with preference to the matching specialisation diploma stream.

Ans. Yes. Graduates of B.Tech Lateral Entry from SVCE (Anna University-affiliated) are eligible to appear for GATE and apply for M.E. or M.Tech programmes. SVCE itself offers M.E. programmes in CSE, Communication System, Power Electronics, and Industrial Automation for which B.Tech lateral graduates qualify after completing their degree.

Ans. Yes. Both lateral and regular B.Tech degrees from SVCE are awarded by Anna University Chennai and carry equal value. Employers and universities treat them identically. The lateral entry route simply recognises prior diploma training and allows entry into the second year, reducing time to degree by one year.
