Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) is an educational institution was established in the year of 1786. The institute is primarily located in Bangalore (Bengaluru) in the state of Karnataka, with other observatories in Kavalur, Kodaikanal and other locations.The primary focus of the institute is research and specialization in various forms of physics or astrophysics.
Indian Institute of Astrophysics offers integrated M.Tech, with the possibility of continuing on for a Ph.D., as well as research-oriented post-doctoral fellowships. For the M.Tech. + Ph.D. course offered by IIA jointly with Calcutta University and Ph.D program offered jointly with Pondicherry University, there is an entrance examination held in the month of December, followed by an interview in the month of January. The Indian Institute of Astrophysics offers a number of postgraduate specializations, each with its own unique accolades involved. The M.Tech. + Ph.D. programme is generally a course of a 6-year duration, with 2 years set aside for the Masters’ degree (M.Tech.). The post-doctoral programme is for a period of two years, with the possibility of a one year extension. Applications are available online on the official university website.
Candidates seeking admission to the integrated M.Tech.-Ph.D. course at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics must apply online well in advance to attend the entrance examination held in the month of December, and the interview held thereafter in January.
Eligibility: Candidates must have BE or B.Tech. Degree in Optics and Optoelectronics/ Radio Physics and Electronics/ Electrical/ Instrumentation/ Electronics and Communications/ Computer Science and Engineering OR M.Sc. degree in Physics/ Electronic Science/ Applied Mathematics/ Applied Physics from a UGC recognized university.

The minimum eligibility for Research Ph.D. is a candidate must have valid degree of M.Sc/Integrated M.Sc (Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Applied Mathematics, Astronomy, Electronics, Photonics, Optics), M.E./M.Tech and Integrated M.E/M.Tech (Applied Physics, Engineering Physics, Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Photonics, Optics, Opto-Electronics, Radio Physics & Electronics), M.Phil (Applied Physics, Instrumentation, Photonics, Optics, Physics).

Note: Selected candidates are intimated by the university after the culmination of the review process. They will receive a fixed fellowship, with standard increment, during the course of their post-doctorate, usually a period of two years.
