How bad is JNTU College of Engineering?

ExistingEscape

JNTU College of Engineering has a pretty poor reputation. During the pandemic, while some universities showed understanding and flexibility with fees and exams, JNTU-H didn't seem to care much. Other places allowed students to pay fees in installments and gave more time to study for exams. But JNTU-H, named after Nehru, didn't really make any efforts like that.

Even before the pandemic, they didn’t consider any religious festivals, and last semester, many students who usually scored well ended up with surprisingly low marks because the grading wasn't done properly. Since September, their online classes have been rushed, like trying to squeeze a full semester into a short time. And for labs, they expect students to complete lab records without actually attending practical sessions. There are just a lot of issues to point out with this university.

What is it like studying under JNTU Hyderabad?

SilentStarlight

I’m currently pursuing my Bachelor of Technology in Cyber Security at JNTU Hyderabad, and I find the curriculum to be quite relevant to current industry needs. The exams are structured well, with two midterms and a semester exam, allowing us enough time to prepare. The faculty is friendly and mostly helpful, although the teaching methods could improve to be more interactive.

For placements, students become eligible from the 6th semester, and the highest package has been 52 lakhs, so there are good opportunities if you work hard. The campus life is vibrant, with various clubs and activities, which makes studying here enjoyable.

How did you spend 4 years of your life at JNTUH College of Engineering Hyderabad??

ZenithZeppelin

I spent two years glued to my phone, one year playing cricket, and just a few days hitting the books. My four years were all about having fun. Staying in the hostel was a blast with my friends. We went on bike rides and trips, creating lots of happy and a few sad memories.

Being surrounded by a lively group of friends made time fly by. Semesters seemed to start quickly, but slowed down when exams and practicals came around. Studying wasn't a big focus; we’d have all-nighters before exams, with someone breaking down the entire syllabus overnight.

Festivals brought even more excitement. Teasing juniors and giving them a hard time was amusing. Finishing my B.Tech was bittersweet because I had to leave all of that behind.

I really miss those moments: the playful banter from Kulai and Ram, Yerra Sai's laid-back attitude during cricket, Akhil's intensity, Aman's kind words, Vamsi's bowling skills, Tejasai's powerful hits, Nikhil's wild antics, Ravi's random thoughts, Som's innocence, Dharma's big appetite, and my favorite thing, wicket keeping.

What are good and bad things about doing engineering in jntuh Hyderabad? Is it worth of doing undergraduation in JNTUH??

OblivionOasis

Studying engineering at JNTUH in Hyderabad has its ups and downs. The college offers a range of courses like BTech, a 5-year Integrated Dual Degree program, and IIDP.

Pros:

  • For students in CSE or ECE, placement opportunities are abundant, with nearly everyone getting placed.
  • Salaries range from 6 to 14 lakhs, depending on skills.
  • However, for branches like Mechanical, Civil, or EEE, placements are fewer, with about 40% securing jobs.
  • Non-circuit branches have fewer placements compared to circuit ones.
  • JNTUH is one of the top colleges in Telangana, aside from BITS and IIT Hyderabad.
  • The curriculum is well-structured, with schedules and exams planned in advance.
  • Some professors are very skilled, while others are average.
  • First-year syllabuses are completed on time, and some teachers offer extra sessions.
  • Students are encouraged to learn independently through resources like NPTEL and YouTube.
  • The first-year hostel has strict anti-ragging rules.
  • There's also an international hostel for students from countries like Nepal and Africa, offering 2 BHK flats shared among 2-3 students for ?6000 monthly, excluding food.
  • The campus has two libraries, including a digital one with fast internet and access to paid journals.
  • A new sports complex offers facilities like a gym and courts for various sports, with cricket tournaments held between branches.
  • Financial help from TEQUIP is available for research and projects, and students can attend free courses at IIT for 1-2 weeks.
  • Fees are quite affordable at ?10,000 for BTech and ?35,000 for IDP, with scholarships for economically weaker and meritorious students.
  • There is no dress code, allowing students to wear casuals and enjoy a lot of freedom.

Cons:

  • Internship opportunities are mostly for CSE and IT students.
  • The syllabus doesn't always match industry needs.
  • There's no strong alumni network, and convocation is only for department toppers.
  • Career guidance is lacking, and there's no bus service for day scholars.
  • A minimum of 75% attendance is required.
  • The college could benefit from more advanced labs, better playgrounds, and more field trips and industrial visits for practical learning.
  • Additional facilities like a swimming pool and gym inside the sports complex would be beneficial.

What is your review of JNTU College of Engineering Hyderabad?

GoldenGalaxyGlider

I'm an alum of JNTU College of Engineering Hyderabad, and here's my honest take on the place.

As of February 2018, here are some positives I noticed:

  • The entire campus is equipped with Wi-Fi, which is fantastic for e-learning. If you use it wisely, it can be really beneficial.
  • The university, e-library, and college libraries have an extensive selection of books and e-magazines. They also offer resources for competitive exams, which is quite helpful.
  • There's a centralized computer center that's open all day, every day, which I found incredibly useful.
  • The labs get the job done.
  • Campus placements are fairly decent.

Now, for some of the downsides: I chose this college because it's one of the best in the state, but a few things let me down.

  • Most placements are in the software sector. If you're looking to work in fields like civil, mechanical, chemical, metallurgy, or electronics, you might struggle to find a job in your area through campus placements.
  • There's no proper communication system like student emails. We live in a tech-savvy world, but beyond Wi-Fi, there isn't much innovation here. It feels quite outdated.
  • The campus rules are quite strict. If you're anywhere near the girls' hostel, the security guards will yell at you as if you're breaking some major rule. It's surprising to see such strict regulations in a leading institute.
  • I couldn't find an NPTEL local chapter or any push for smart learning. The internet mainly gets used for social media instead of educational purposes.
  • There aren't any art clubs, dance groups, literary events, or NCC activities. Mostly, it's just small disputes between different departments.

How is JNTU Hyderabad?

SilentSentinel

Studying Computer Science and Engineering at JNTU Hyderabad has been quite a mixed bag for me. The curriculum is relevant to current industry needs, but sometimes I feel it's not as hands-on as it could be. The exams are conducted every semester, and they are moderately difficult.

I've heard from seniors that the placements are good, with many companies coming to hire students. The average package is about 4-5 LPA, which is decent for a government college. However, some faculty members could improve their teaching methods, and the overall student-faculty interaction could be better.

What is your review of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad?

ChaoticCore

I would say that my experience at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) has been quite positive overall, especially in the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering course. The curriculum is well-structured and focuses on practical applications.

We have exams every six months, which includes two mid-term exams and one final exam. The faculty is generally helpful, and I appreciate their approach to teaching, although some could improve their interaction with students. The fee structure is manageable for most, and I've been fortunate to receive a government scholarship that covers a significant portion of my tuition.

Campus life is vibrant with various events and clubs, making it a great place to grow both academically and socially.

Will challenge evaluation work in the JNTUH? If it is the only hope to get promoted, lacking one credit.

Sabeer Chalana
Hirdekh JainStudied at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (2016)

I think applying for the usual revaluation in JNTUH is useless because mostly the difference in marks is 0. However, the challenge evaluation is worth the try.

I know many friends whose marks increased drastically after applying for challenge evaluation despite being the same after the normal revaluation. Unfortunately, this is how the scenario is here and you have no choice but to apply for it.

However, this process is very costly, around 10000 out of which 9000 can be redeemed if there is an increase in marks. So it’s advisable to go for a challenge evaluation especially if it's a question of promotion or an active backlog right before your placements.
