The Institute was incepted in Angamaly, Kochi, in the year 2002 by Marymatha Province of Vincentian Congregation. DiST is affiliated to MG University and offers AICTE approved programs in streams like Computer Science, Management, Social Work, Commerce and Media, and Communication at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level.

The placement cell began as a charitable organization in 2004. Since then it is dynamically working as a career navigator.
