Which college should you choose for Operations management: IMT Ghaziabad, IMI New Delhi, or SIOM Nashik?

Praver Katyal
Sandeep SahuMBA in Marketing & Information Technology, Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad (Graduated 2020)

If you had to choose from the options mentioned, it's recommended to opt for a brand name. Your priority should be IMT Ghaziabad, IMI Delhi, and SIOM Nashik.

When it comes to Operations Management, NITIE, and IITs are considered to be top-notch. They offer a comprehensive curriculum, job roles, and industry exposure, making them highly sought-after. In fact, IITs have established their brand in management, specifically due to their expertise in operations. However, when it comes to Operation major, NITIE remains unparalleled, as they have the longest chain of alumni in operations, holding high-level designations for many years.

If operations are still your preferred field, and you don't have any other options apart from NITIE or IITs, then your decision should be entirely based on the brand you are joining.

Which is better, SIMS Pune or SIOM Nashik ?

Shubhika VermaOperations Management, Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management, Nashik (2019)

Both SIMS and SIOM are good institutes, providing excellent courses in different domains. The choice between the two institutes is entirely based on your choice of interest.

The points below give a brief overview of the two institutes:

  • SIOM is an excellent choice for students who want to opt for Operations Management only. Students in the stream get the opportunity to perform internships, projects, and even get placements related to operations only.
  • Some of the major sectors that hire students from Operations Management at SIOM include Logistics, FMCG, Consulting, Manufacturing, analytics, etc. Most of the consulting firms visiting the campus are either supply chain or ERP consulting companies. There are few companies from BFSI too.
  • SIMS provides good management programs in other domains, especially marketing and finance.
  • All kinds of statistical data of both the institutes are published on their institutional website thoroughly. Symbiosis colleges never publish fake data and can be relied upon for comparison.

Therefore, for operations management, SIOM is a much better option. And for all other branches in management, SIMS is a better choice for students interested in an MBA degree.

How is SIOM (Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management) Nashik? Is it worth it to do an MBA from there?

Damini MehraStudied at Symbiosis Institute of Operations Management, Nashik (2019)

As far as SIOM is concerned, it is one of the best institutions in the country for operation management. It is known to provide 100% placement but it is definitely lacking in basic amenities like infrastructure, decent faculty, good academic management as well as flexibility, and campus facilities. But, SIOM also has some really unique infrastructure like the SAP lab and supply chain software which you might not find in top universities either.

However, if you are okay with adjusting to these parameters and your only focus is on studying and you would like to build your career as an operation manager, SIOM is a really good option as you will come under the Symbiosis banner.

Moreover, you should go for SIOM only if you do not get a call from other universities like IIMs, NITIE, SP Jain, XLRI, NMIMS or JBIMS. You will notice that the packages are a little on the lesser side as compared to the mentioned colleges but it is quite acceptable if you are fresher. SIOM will give your career the boost it needs.
