CEG M.Tech FAQs

Ques. Is there a minimum GATE score required for M.Tech at CEG or is admission purely rank-based?

Ans. CEG does not publish a minimum GATE score cutoff. Admission through CEAP 2026 is rank-based within the GATE paper. A strong rank matters more than a floor threshold. For popular departments like Computer Science and Electronics, aim for a GATE rank in the top 500 to 1,000 to target the most sought-after specializations.

Ques. What is the financial difference between CEETA-PG and GATE admission at CEG M.Tech?

Ans. CEETA-PG gives access to Tamil Nadu government engineering college seat quotas. The key financial difference is that only GATE-based admission qualifies a student for the AICTE-PG scholarship of INR 12,400 per month. Over two years, this totals INR 2,97,600, which exceeds the entire program fee. CEETA-PG-based admissions do not carry this benefit.

Ques. Can M.Tech students at CEG participate in campus placement drives?

Ans. M.Tech students can register with the CUIC placement cell and join campus drives. However, M.Tech placement at CEG is less structured than at private colleges. Many graduates pursue PhD programs, DRDO roles, or TNPSC positions instead. For corporate hiring, proactively networking with Chennai-based companies and leveraging CEG alumni in IT and semiconductor sectors is advisable.

Ques. Does the CEG M.Tech dissertation strengthen PhD applications at IITs or abroad?

Ans. Yes, significantly. The fourth-semester dissertation requires original research contributions evaluated by a faculty panel. A strong dissertation improves PhD application prospects at Anna University, IITs, and international universities. Publishing a conference paper from M.Tech work creates a research portfolio that most private college graduates lack.

Ques. What career paths do CEG M.Tech graduates typically pursue beyond campus placements?

Ans. CEG M.Tech graduates commonly pursue PhD programs at Anna University, IITs, or international universities in VLSI, thermal systems, and polymer engineering. Many join DRDO, ISRO, BARC, or CSIR labs. Public sector roles at TNEB, BSNL, BHEL, and Railways are also common. Technical positions at L&T, Siemens, Bosch, and semiconductor firms complete the typical career mix.
